Usually go dine in and ordered delivery recently-thank you for having your sht together and delivering the same experience at home that you do in the restaurant. Lots of JC restaurants are doing quality dine in and failing at delivery. All those guys need to take a lesson from you. Love the food here-with vegetarian and vegan options too. My husband and I came here for dinner recently. He ordered a 16 oz beer which someone on staff accidentally spilled all over him upon bringing it to our table. He was absolutely soaked from head to toe. They apologized and brought napkins but didn't offer to move our table so we sorta sat in a puddle all night. We were very gracious about it, as it was an accident, but expected them to make it right (perhaps comping an entree or an appetizer). In the end, all they did was comp the beer that they had spilled all over him and brought a sad scoop of ice cream despite us declining dessert, as he was cold, wet, and uncomfortable, and we just wanted to get home. It was very disappointing that after spending over $100 on two appetizers and two entrees, that was all they did. Needless to say we will not be returning. Even though it was a struggle trying to make a reservation and be seated for Sunday brunch, this place is lovely. The inside is modern and chic with lots of light coming in through the windows. We sat outside in the sun and we're served a delicious spicy Bloody Mary, 'eggs Florentine,' and steak and eggs. Our waitress was super cordial and down-to-earth. Brunch on Saturdays are 11am - 3pm, and on Sundays 10am - 4pm. There's also a full bar to fulfill all your boozy brunch needs. The brunch service was attentive and our waitress was sweet with our water glasses never empty! Not only did the food come out quickly, but also the quality was amazing - our meal was close to perfect (and I don't say that often). The NUTELLA SWIRL PANCAKES ($12) are to die for and saying that's huge for me because I'm more of a savory than sweet type of brunch girl. The CRISPY FISH TACOS ($12) were delicious, with perfectly tender fish but there were only two tacos :( wish there were more or it was just a few dollars cheaper. I've always been so curious to try this place and finally did today for brunch. It's a very sunny and cozy corner, with great outdoor seating. Unfortunately when it came down to food, it was a disappointing experience. Eggs Benedict w/ salmon - tasted pretty bland. Breakfast burrito - egg had a weird consistency and taste. Pretty plain ingredients-wise. Do not recommend this... I've had so many breakfast burritos in my life and this was a sad excuse for a breakfast burrito Pancakes - Pancakes were fluffy and tasty, and I'm not much of a sweets person for breakfast/brunch. I came here for a post workout brunch with my friend. Her sister had recommended it so we were eager to try it. And after a good fitness class, we were starving! We arrived at 12 and got seated right away. The host asked if it would be possible to be finished by 1pm since there was a reservation at our table and since we were seated and starving, we were like 'yes! We will definitely be finished by then!' We were greeted by our waitress and immediately ordered two mango bellinis. They came out fairly fast and we ordered our brunch. The avocado toast was delicious but kind of expensive for $7. It was one slice of toast cut in half and while it was delicious, definitely not worth the $7! Maybe if it was two full slices. For my mussels and frites, they tasted good but the mussels were so tiny. They gave me a good portion and it's not their fault the mussels were so tiny but it was a little disappointing. However the soup the mussels were sitting in was so good and excellent for dipping fries in! The fries themselves were great! My friend got the gnocchi and they were pillow soft! Very delicious with the cheese and tomato. We didn't get any dessert unfortunately, but will have to the next time I'm there. I would definitely come back to try their other dishes! read more

I've been to the Kitchen Step twice for brunch. The space is beautiful. The restaurant has a shabby chic, trendy vibe - with green plant walls and large golden chairs in the entryway. The staff was attentive and the service was great. They do get a bit busy for brunch after 12, but when I came at 11:30, it was pretty quiet. The breakfast burrito is THE BEST breakfast burrito I have ever had. Black beans, avocado, egg, spicy tomatillo and a fresh salad --- the breakfast burrito is what dreams are made of. I don't really want to try anything else because it's so good. Other food that was consumed by friends: the smoked salmon tostada (actually comes on a Spanish style tostada - not toast) and the hangar steak & eggs (my friend loved it!). Whenever I think Jersey City can't get any better I'm always proven wrong. The Kitchen Step seems to be the top spot for brunch in this area so on a Sunday I decided to finally get it off of my bookmarked list. We walked into a beautiful establishment that had a mixed feeling of casual and class. The decor was light and not overbearing in other aspects. Even the menu given to us was small and hand sized not large. Every detail about The Kitchen Step is on point and it is the perfect mood for a brunch. Our waitress was pleasant and checked on us a descent amount of times throughout our time there. We arrived right when they opened at 11am and to our surprise by 11:15 almost every table was already taken including outside. This is always a good sign in my opinion. I fulfilled my pancake craving and ordered The Nutella Swirl Pancake for $12 with a side of one scrambled egg with cheddar for $3. My brunch date ordered The Hangar Steak with eggs and potatoes for $17. My pancake was delicious and super moist. I was happy to see it wasn't drowned in Nutella and mixed in with the fruit gave it a nice balance. The pancake itself takes up the entire plate and shockingly for just being one pancake extremely filling! I pride myself on being a "pancake expert" and I would rate The Nutella Swirl Pancake top 3 on my tries of pancakes across the country. It was really that good. The Hangar Steak with Eggs and Potatoes was also a hit! The steak was tender and easy to cut through, but what makes this a standout brunch dish is the bearnaise sauce it is cooked with. This sauce is a WOW factor! The entirety of the plate does not disappoint. I've been to my share of brunch places in and around the city but none have quite impressed me like The Kitchen Step did. I came here with a friend for dinner on a Friday night. First time here, but reviews seemed promising! Food: We received complimentary baguettes, whole grain bread, and herb butter to start. My friend and I just shared 2 Snacks and 1 Small Plate, which left us satisfied. We had the honey-sriracha bbq wings, truffle maccheroni & cheese, and crispy fish tacos. The wings were perfectly sauced, without being overly spicy or messy. The honey and the peanut chutney gave the wings even more flavor. The pasta had an awesome truffle flavor, and the bread crumbs on top added a great crunch. We were really disappointed with the fish tacos though; flavor was okay, the slaw didn't really do much for us, and the fish was decent. Drinks: We had the Yellow Snow and Bicicleta, both which was okay. Our fault for not knowing the Bicicleta was made with a bitter liquor, which my friend didn't enjoy. Price: I think for what we ate and drank tonight, the prices were decent. The only thing I'd criticize was the fish tacos again, being $14 for two. If you head to any taco joints in the area, you'd get 5 or 6 for the same price and better flavor. Service: Pleasant greeting by the general manager at the door, and was surprised when they took our coats at the door. It's not the biggest restaurant, so it was a good idea to save space. Waitress was attentive, and water was always refilled in our glasses. Decor: I couldn't really notice anything spectacular. Seats were comfortable, though it is a tight squeeze. I was never the biggest fan of darker ambient lighting; I like to see what I'm eating in front of me. Bathrooms were clean. Been here for both brunch and dinner, and both times left extremely happy and full. First of all, if you should be so lucky to meet Ray, the mixologist behind the bar, you are in luck. More than your generic bartender, Ray is part mad scientist, part chemist, daring to create something that isn't in your normal playbook of cocktails or drinks. He also happens to light up when you mention shots. Anyway, drinks are great. Just remember not to get too hammered to enjoy the food. For brunch, I had and would recommend the salmon tostada. It was perfect for a light brunch... not too heavy on the palette and not too heavy on the stomach. Normally I go for a heartier meal, but this was just perfect and didn't leave me with that "I must go back to bed" feeling. For dinner, I had the bacon wrapped pork tenderloin. Man was this good. Super soft, melt in your mouth type stuff. Also, the lobster mac and cheese appetizer was sinfully good. Service is great. I'm so glad this is part of the neighborhood now... Salimah and I both agreed we wanted to do brunch at The Kitchen Step. We were excited ... But that excitement began to diminish upon walking in. We let the hostess know we had a 12 pm reservation. She looked around and then let us know it would be about a 10-15 min wait. Salimah asked if we could take one of the tables in the back, her response -"that's for a group of 4." When we asked if she could just divide the table up, she was so hesitant. We didn't get the table. Instead she said a table was paying soon - so we did end up waiting. Okay... While eating, guess what the hostess comes to do right next to us!? That's right -she's dividing up the table and sitting down two different people. What happen to "that's only for a group of 4"? Yes we were annoyed. Service: Our server was kind. At first he was coming by so often and then mid meal he forgot things we asked him for. Food: We split the Croissant French Toast ($12) because we wanted something on the sweeter side. The cinnamon whip cream was drenched all over and it wasn't sweet. This is considered a large plate but the size is on the smaller side and if you're having this alone, you'll probably leave hungry. I had The Hanger Steak ($17) comes with eggs, crispy smashed potatoes, bearnaise sauce. My steak wasn't cooked to order (med) but the bearnaise sauce made up for it. This plate was solid! I wouldn't run back to The Kitchen Step and as much as I would like to try some of their drinks, this is a perfect example of first impressions being important. read more

When I read online the new restaurant taking over the Thirty Acres space was called The Kitchen Step, I did a big eye roll. Really? The name sounds pretentious and idk, just stupid. Brushing that aside I made a reservation for dinner and was glad I had reservation when I arrived because the place was packed. In terms of decor, I'm not really a fan of what they've done, to me it looks like it was decorated by a RHONJ, but even so it's not too crazy and easy to get past, except for the gold faucets in the bathroom. So far I've bitched about the name and the decor, and yet this is a five star review. All the above aside, I go to a restaurant for the food, and here's where TKS won me over. The bread and butter starter was really good, especially the roasted garlic in the butter. For small plates we shared the fish tacos and the special of Burrata served with arugula and tomato chutney. The fish tacos were good and the Burrata was yummy but I wasn't a fan of the coriander in the tomato chutney. For drinks I had the We're Gonna Need A Bigger Boat ($14 ouch!) which is served in a tiki glass and is tequila based with shaved ice and coconut milk. This is a great choice if you are looking for something to slip throughout the night. For mains I had half of the Olive-crusted salmon (spicy honey glaze, artichoke barigoule, baby spinach $23) and half of the Pan-roasted Shrimp (parsnip & haricot vert risotto, shellfish jus $21). The salmon dish was nice and light, and our waiter even asked how we wanted it cooked which I had never been asked before when ordering fish. The Shrimp risotto dish was off the chain, lick the plate, kind of good. Almost a week later and I'm still thinking of it; I think it may have been the best risotto I have ever eaten. The dish is a large portion and fairly rich, so I would recommend sharing a second lighter entrée if you can. Great dining experience overall and the service was pretty good, especially considering it's a new restaurant. read more

I mixed this place up with The Kitchen at Grove and didn't realize that the restaurant closed permanently. I was so surprised that my GPS took me all the way to where Thirty Acres used to be, but in the end it was a pleasant surprise. I wanted to something light that morning so I ordered a smashed avocado toast and marinated beets from the snack and the small plates section. The avocado toast though simple and easily replicated at home was a tasty snack. For some reason having someone else make it for you makes it taste so much better. Probably because no effort or clean up on your part. The beets small plates consisted of marinated beets, quinoa, espelette yogurt, and mache. This small plate was indeed very small with not very many beets. The quinoa underneath formed some kind of granola. It was extremely crunchy and actually hurt my teeth somewhat. My boyfriend ordered the Hangar steak & eggs which is covered in a bearnaise sauce and comes with a side of crispy smashed potatoes. This was a good choice on his part. The steak was tender and I loved the crispy potatoes. I saw the other table order the soft-shell crab po'boy and mussels-frites. Both dishes looked huge. No alcohol is served until noon. I felt the kitchen was somewhat slow and our food took a while, but overall great brunch option in Jersey City. read more

I decided on a last minute brunch at The Kitchen Step and I was not disappointed! We got to sit in one of the outdoor greenhouses and it was so unique and lovely. They're heated but not overly hot and it's a cozy way to enjoy and indoor/outdoor moment. Our waitress, Tammy, I was 100% incredible, sweet, and friendly. It can't be easy to work in the cold and she was fun and wonderful the entire time. The cocktails were fantastic and the Canadian Tuxedo is a new favorite for me. But let me talk to you about the truffle hollandaise. LET ME. It. Was. Amazing. I would have never thought about marrying truffles and hollandaise but it was perfect. Eggs Benedict with prosciutto and truffle hollandaise is my new gold standard. Also, definitely get the cheese plate. It even included some sage garnish that they light on fire at the table for extra flavor. Free fresh bread and garlic herb butter so we opted not to get appetizers but had 3 entrees instead. The server made sure to bring over extra silverware and plates to accommodate. He convinced us to get the ricotta gnocchi which was pretty heavenly. Pillows of oozing cheese and flavor. The burger was above average but would definitely try and order something different since the other entrees looked much better. I've been looking for a really good brunch spot close to give for a while and this is it. The decor is great. There's art everywhere and plants and old time chairs and shit. It's not too loud or too cramped. There's outdoor seating on a quiet street. The food was amazing. I had the hanger steak brunch and it was cooked perfectly. The Kitchen Step is one of my top 2 favorite restaurants in the neighborhood. I would actually argue that TKS is one of the best restaurants in Jersey City. No matter the occasion, when I want an amazing meal that I'm positive I am going to enjoy, I come to Kitchen Step! After eating here about a dozen times (if not more), I am finally writing a review. Both brunch and dinner are so well done. The steak and eggs and the signature burger are two of my brunch favorites. The hanger steak is always cooked perfectly and served with crispy potatoes and eggs. The burger is AMAZING. If you order the burger, ask to add a friend egg on it. The Nutella swirl pancake is also delicious ( I've had a few bites when others order it) and sometimes I get the regular egg breakfast (eggs, potatoes & bacon) and even that is beyond enjoyable. To indulge a little bit, I almost always add a croissant to the brunch order .. so good with their homemade jam. My only critique would be on the chicken and waffles. I found the dish to be very sweet and not at all spicy, which I wasn't expecting. This may be very personal, since I am mainly a savory and spicy eater, but I probably wouldn't order this again. Or maybe I would, just without the sauces that are on it. Either way, order anything on their brunch menu and I'm sure you will be happy. Now, dinner. For starters, their cocktails are fabulous and I love sitting at the bar to have dinner because the bartenders are the absolute best. For appetizers, the shrimp tacos, zucchini fries, kale salad, oysters, prosciutto platter .... literally everything is good. The app portions aren't obnoxiously large, so you still have room to enjoy your dinner. The menu changes seasonally, but when they have the pork chop on the dinner menu (no matter how it's prepared) I order it ...Because it's just that good! We've been trying to go to brunch at Kitchen Step for a while (before COVID) but they were always packed with a long wait and they close at 3:30 for a break between lunch and dinner on the weekends. We finally got a seat today, and I was pretty disappointed in my breakfast burrito - it was all rice. I don't think I've ever had a breakfast burrito with sushi rice in it, so I tried it, but there was so much rice and so little of anything else, that it was not very good. TL,DR: Bad service, even worse food. MOTH in food. Full story: Came in for brunch today. Nice atmosphere and everything seemed fine. Started with zucchini fries which was really just tiny chunks of fried batter. We all got our main courses which looked good. As we started eating though, one friend noticed the rice in his burrito was really undercooked. And then, as I started onto my salad, I saw a huge MOTH, dead, intact, in my food. A big one, crazy hard to miss. Oh, did I mention it took like 45 minutes or so to get our food? Waiter never acknowledged this crazy delay and just kept asking if we wanted more water. Finally, the manager came over to apologized, took my plate off the bill, and kept mentioning how he'd never seen anything like this and next time it will be better. Um 1. We won't be back. 2. Did he not notice that 2 other people didn't finish their terrible meals? We should have been comped more. Really unfortunate experience. Skip this place and spend your money elsewhere, where hopefully there aren't moths on the menu. read more
