Salmon, mashed potatoes and steamed veggies

I came from LA and got an Air BnB 5 minutes from here. I saw cuban food on google and knew I had to come try it. IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT!! First time I hear of a BYOB restaurant and was super intrigued by the idea. I had the Ropa Vieja Empanadas, Salmon and an order of Maduros. The empanadas were perfectly sized. Not too big, but also not to small where you don't actually enjoy it. The dough isnt thick and they definitely fill them. They also dont get soggy but are still full of flavor with ropa Vieja broth coming through, come with a cilantro dipping sauce, also delicious. The Salmon was perfect, not too dry, perfectly seasoned! Veggies were steamed just right and the mashed potatoes were nice and fluffy. I had a side of the maduros and they were just to die for, not too big, not too small, tender and sweet. I love the ambiance of this place and will definitely be coming back! Love the energy and the attention to detail.

I'm already planning my next visit...YUM! First time here and it did not disappoint! I'm so glad I…read morefound yummy homemade ice cream at a family owned spot. There's so many yummy flavors - it's hard to choose! I ultimately went with the rocky road (my classic favorite) and the cheesecake with rainbow sprinkles (because why not!?) and enjoyed every bite! I think the rocky road could've used more marshmallows but that's my personal preference for my favorite childhood fave ice cream. Service was great and allow you to try a couple flavors if you're unsure which is great as not all ice cream spots makes the flavors the same! It's only street parking so get ready to search for that when you come to visit - but it's worth it! And read street signs so you don't get towed or ticketed.

Established in 1968, this long-established shop makes all its ice cream in-house. Not only are the…read moreportions generous, but the texture is also incredibly smooth and silky, without any icy crystals or a hard, frozen consistency. Holding it or tasting it gives a substantial, high-quality feel. However, the consequence is that even the staff struggles to scoop it out with their spherical ice cream scoops, let alone the disposable plastic spoons provided to customers. Green Tea: The highest praise Chinese people can give for desserts--not sweet--and it truly tastes like green tea, not matcha. The refreshing bitterness was incredibly pure, even bordering on slightly bitter, which is extremely rare in the US. Vanilla Peanut Butter: Very milky, but extremely salty, like eating peanut butter spread on bread. The vanilla flavor was almost completely masked. Coconut & Cream: I've always trusted American coconut ice cream, but this time it was a bit of a disappointment. The cream completely overshadowed the coconut, so much so that it took me a long time to recall what flavor I actually ordered. Ube: One bite brought back childhood memories, exactly the same as the ube flavor Wuyang五羊 ice cream cone. It was so touching I didn't order this in the end since I want to try more flavors as possible. I don't know why, but ube flavor seems to be gradually fading in China... Blueberry Cheesecake: The initial taste was a rich, sweet cream, with a refreshing hint of blueberry tartness in the aftertaste. It's pretty good, but honestly, it's not particularly outstanding. Banana Peanut Butter Chunk: The staff recommended this signature dish, and it once again made me realize how subjective taste can be... It's on the sweeter and saltier side, with a very strong flavor, but more importantly, it has a noticeable artificial banana flavor.

I've never eaten anything that I didn't like. My faves are: milhojas, breakfast croissant sandwich, and any and every cake with dulce de leche filling. I only tiny, minuscule complaint I have about this place is the lack of signage for the pastries and cakes. It would be nice to know what I'm looking at without having the ask. Absolutely zero gatekeeping here. Please everyone keep patronizing this establishment. I need this place to continue to exist in my hood.

So get anything fresh, like made to order cakes or things you see come out right when you're there. Otherwise you run the risk of getting old stuff, which sucks that they don't manage that at all. On a Sunday afternoon lines moved quickly and we were able to find seats. This is a cute cafe that offers plenty of savory items and lunches, plus drinks like matcha, cakes, pastries and cookies. There is also a bathroom! The women behind the counter were all nice and patient with my questions, they also kept the line moving and were quick. I had high hopes for the Alfajores as this is an Argentinian bakery but unfortunately the ones given to me were stale. The cookie was very hard. Also the Dulce de leche was too sweet and burnt tasting to me. I also got a chocolate covered one and the cookie in that was also hard and dry. The strawberry croissant was amazing. Never had anything like that before. Not too sweet and very flaky. It has a ribbon of red on the outside which gives it a unique look. I would love to come back and try savory items. I'll continue to stick with the cakes and croissants for desert and make sure it's fresh!
