Honestly, this is one of the best breakfast places in the area. If only they served decent coffee, I'd be the happiest person in the world. While everything they have is good, my personal favorite kolaches are the ham, egg, and cheese with jalapeños and the Texas Boudins (when they have it, which is rare, but the owner has told me that I can put in a request for some before I come in). I usually go in early, around 7:30 to 8am, so their stocks are still half empty at the time, which is somewhat disappointing considering they're open at 6:30am. I've tried the fruit kolaches, which are similar to danishes, only better. The buttery dough marries perfectly with the tart and sweet fruit filling. I tried the ones with the cheese and fruit filling twice but both times, I didn't like it much. The cheese had a strange texture. I wanted to like it because I love cheese danishes. **I just found out that the cheese filling actually has cottage cheese mixed into it, the owners' family recipe. I'm going to give it a try again to see if I can acquire a taste for it. If not, it's just not for me. But that shouldn't deter you from trying it! The brisket and pulled pork kolaches are very popular around here, and I can see why, but they're a tad too sweet for my tastes (which is why Utahns go nuts for them). However, anything with their homemade sausages and house-pickled jalapeños are divine. The sausage and gravy kolache was like home wrapped up in a fluffy little dough blanket. Dem people know how to make sausage and gravy! However, there's just something about the ham and jalapeño. A perfect marriage. The boudin - another kolache that reminds me of home every time I take a bite. My husband, a Californian, loves their kolache with chorizo con huevos. Yes, they just need to add an espresso machine, learn how to use it, and I'm never moving. read more

LOVEDDDDD everything we got. I tried the empanada and a peach one, husband got the bacon egg cheese jalapeño and a strawberry with cream cheese. I preferred the strawberry with cream cheese to the peach, but that's not to say the peach was bad at all. The cream cheese just really added good flavor. Really nice owner explained the history of the foods since we had never heard of them before, nice guy. I used to LOVE this place until their ingredients changed or something because the bacon egg and cheese is now a joke. Here's a picture of the 5 pieces of bacon (pure fat) that I got in my kolache, with my hand for comparison. Needless to say, I'll be going to Midway for my kolache fix now. Best Saturday morning place in Provo. If you haven't check this place out yet you HAVE to. Its only open in the mornings and on the weekends the line is out the door always! The Raspberry Kolashes are amazing, so are the mixed berry ones. Really all of the sweet ones are amazing. Just pick your favorite flavor and get it. SAVORY ONES ARE CRAZY GOOD. I recommend the Sausage and Egg and the Bacon and Egg for starters. If you like spice get the same but with Jalapeño. The chicken cilantro ones are great too. I was talking to the owner and he said that the basic recipes that he is using are his grandmother's from the Czech Republic. The fruit and the cream cheese kolaches are great, but I was really excited to find poppy seed filling. The filling is what you'd find in Europe: crushed poppy seeds boiled in milk and honey until it forms a thick paste. This is heavy duty poppy seed! I'm glad to find the real thing in Provo! He also has savory kolaches which would be great for lunch or a quick breakfast. I tried his sausage and spinach kolache which was quite good. I highly recommend this! I'm absolutely obsessed with this place! I LOVE their kolaches. The sausage, egg, cheese, and jalapeño is a favorite. The jalapeño isn't very spicy, just gives it a great flavor. Love this shop! The product is so well prepared and mastered, that you're eating a heaven...after it's been well seasoned and stuffed into some dough. Food: the food is amazing. The fillings are seasoned masterfully and the bread has a slight sweetness to it. I don't give 5 stars because they're not always well stocked...though this may just be because they have sold out by the time I arrive. Also, they don't always clearly label the kolaches on display, which to me is a personal pet peeve. Great stop for a quick and filling breakfast! read more

In most major cities, there are "little treasures," independent joints that make really good food in their own unique way, with an idiosyncratic vibe, that make you want to check back in every time you're in town. Destinations. Hrushka's is one of the VERY FEW such places along the Wasatch Front, and probably the only one in Provo/Orem. The caveat: come early. The selection starts out good and sells out fast. You'll recognize the place if you don't know where it is because if you come in the A.M. to Center Street, there is a line of people stretching out the door and a bunch of people are standing on the sidewalk eating something. I was so excited to try this place as coworkers really like and and were telling me to go, so I did. I tried the ham, egg, and cheese as well as the sausage and grave Kolaches. The first thing you'll notice when you walk in is how good it smells. It made me even more excited to get my food. One thing my coworkers recommended was to go in the morning as they do run out of items as the day goes on. Unfortunately both Kolaches were underwhelming. The ham, egg, and cheese was pretty good but it was overwhelmed with too much pepper. Maybe it was an accident, but it was hard to taste anything but the pepper. The big problem came when I ate the sausage and gravy kolache. I took one bite and the center was cold. Not lukewarm, but cold. I took another bite just to make sure and yes, it was cold. It's as if it had been sitting out for a very long time or wasn't properly cooked. I couldn't take more then the two bites because I was worried the meat wasn't cooked and I would get sick. The taste was there and I could see the potential. But because of that I'm not sure I can go back. read more

Hey, so I just discovered your place and was seriously so excited. One of the things I miss most about living in Texas is kolaches! I discovered it yesterday, and have gone both yesterday and today. You guys do a great job! The only thing is that I wish you stay open for an extra hour to two into the afternoon. A couple of your kolaches are perfect for lunch. I work just down the street and many of my co-workers agree, but it is often difficult to take lunch before noon! I don't know what your circumstances are, but it would be great if you stayed open for an extra hour or two so you could catch the lunch crowd.
