Mmmmmm... is there anything more classic Provo than a clear morning waiting in line for kolaches? These things are warm and perfectly doughy with delicious flavors. They have fun specials and theming for "Dr Suess, Harry Potter, Starwars, and great seasonal options. While there is no seating and no coordinated decor, for me that adds to the charm: unassuming and packs a punch. My of their classic flavors include raspberry and pecan for the sweet kolaches and egg and bacon for their savory. They recently started making "poppers", boxes of six par-baked kolaches that can be cooked to perfection at home. Absolutely love the Kolaches and coming here on a Saturday morning. There's not any space inside to eat but there are some tables outside between the building it's in and the building next to it. The line can be long if you don't come early in the morning, but they tend to keep it quick moving. I'd recommend getting the Kolaches and taking them somewhere else to eat, even if it's just somewhere else on center street. As far s as the actual food goes I dint think these are intended to be super authentic Kolaches, but they aren't quite Texas Kolaches either. I enjoy the biscuit and gravy Kolaches. They recently had a Mother's Day brunch Kolaches and French toast Kolaches and both were fantastic. I overall really like this place! read more

I come to Hruskas probably at least once a week. I think their Kolaches are simply divine. For those of you who've never heard of a kolache it is a variety of meet cheese possibly eggs and sauces inside a bread roll. Think of omelet meets large dinner roll. Anywho they also have sweet kolaches that are flat with jelly in the center. These will appeal to anyone though and definitely something to try if you've never had one before and if you have these are going to be the best ones yet. read more

This place always has a line out the door, but don't be detoured by the wait, it's worth it! I love the ever changing variety of both sweet and savory kolaches. We love bringing friends here that are visiting from out of town. Utah does have other kolaches places, but they just aren't as good as Hruska's. I love Hruska's Kolaches! They are always so consistently good, no matter which day or which flavor. I've had the pumpkin (seasonal), chicken cilantro omelet, Texas style, sausage and gravy, and more and they are all fantastic. I would recommend coming early in the morning to get your pick of flavors. They do run out as the morning goes on so the variety dwindles. This place is worth the carbs. I can't choose between the sweet and the savory. They're both so good in Their own unique ways. My favorite savory is the sausage jalapeño. It's the breakfast of champions. Hefty with a little kick. And the outside dough is seriously the best. Just cooked to perfection with a great softness inside and firm outside, possibly cooked in a stone oven. My favorite sweet are the pecan brown sugar mix and the peach ones. SO GOOD! So if you're ever looking for a nice breakfast or brunch spot, try out this place!! Seating is limited but there are great possibilities on Center street. It's roll in accessible for wheelchairs, but also tiny. I've never tried the restrooms. Expect long lines on a Saturday morning as they limit their hours of joy spreading. Came here for Valentine's Day and it was such a fun surprise to see pink kolaches!!! They have such a fun variety of flavors and a great mix of sweet/savory. I got the sausage and gravy (it was featured on food network so of course I had to try it), bacon egg and cheese, and a maple pecan. They were all amazing!!! I was traveling through Utah and heard about these "kolaches". So my friend and I stopped and ordered 2. We went to shady area- and she began eating hers.. I was enjoying my coffee- and then decided to try mine I pulled it apart and and started to put into my mouth when I noticed what a thought was a very thin piece of fish line.. it turned out to be a long human HAIR.. disgusting! I'll be honest, I wouldn't eat kolaches every single morning even if I had the option. But when I'm feeling it, nothing else will do. I love the variety of savory and sweet flavor options, and the extra homemade sauces really add an interesting complementary spice to the already delicious kolache. Line is always long but they get you through pretty quickly. Outdoor seating is fun and the store is in a great area with as much of a "big city" feel you can get in Provo. You know how some reviews say to walk, don't run to eat at a good place in town? Well if you don't run to Hruska's Kolaches in the morning you may literally miss out when they completely sell out just a few hours after opening! I love me a good local favorite, and Hruska's has a cult following with a big passion for their food. You can tell the food here is good quality and baked up with heart, but I personally think the kolaches are a little too bread heavy, especially on the sweet ones. If you're looking for a filling breakfast, be sure to get a savory kolache loaded with egg and sausage. Don't expect to simply top off a savory kolache with a sweet one as they are quite heavy themselves, and again don't have the best ratio of filling to bread. Overall this place is a good experience in Provo you've gotta try at least once. Not a morning person? Make a friend wake up early and get it for you. read more

Having lived in Texas for the past 8 years, I needed my kolache fix. This place was pretty good, and definitely hit the spot. The dough is just how it should be, and the fillings were generous. I really liked the sausage and gravy. However, it was still not as good as the ones I've had in Dallas and Waco. This place's Texas style has the cheese and jalapeño separate from the sausage, but the ones I'm used to have an actual cheese and jalapeño sausage covered in more cheese. But it was still good. I have never had kolaches of any kind so I don't have anything to compare these to so I'm just basing this off of my experience with these in particular. I'm staying at the hospital down the road with my mom and was getting tired of hospital food and decided to turn to my fellow yelpers to find a local breakfast spot. After seeing these reviews I had to go take a chance and sample what Hruskas had to offer. I prepared myself for a long line but I arrived at 840am on a Tuesday and there was only one person in front of me so I didn't have to worry at all. Do note that they only have certain hours or until they sell out, so I wouldn't take chances on going too late in the morning. When I arrived there were only a few options left so I loaded up! I know good bakeries as a New Yorker so if there was barely any left at 845am, I didn't have to worry about being disappointed with whatever I picked. I ordered a few sweet and a few savory so I could get the best of both worlds. I was curious why the kolaches were pink when I was going up to order when all the previous posts showed regular bread color, then I realized it was Valentine's day so they made all the dough pink for the day. Too cute. I ordered a chicken and Cilantro for myself. As a Colombian I love Cilantro so I was excited to taste this combo in the kolache. Unfortunately it doesn't list what else is in it and it was too spicy for me. Honestly, you should just start calling me Cecilia the spice wimp. I really wanted to have the Cilantro flavor bursting throughout each bite and even though I could see it in could barely taste it since the other ingredients were so overpowering. That's really my only negative and it's only because I'm a wimp. It's no fault of theirs I just wish the Cilantro was more present. The bread itself of the kolache was amazing. Soft and doughy inside with a nice baked outer shell. I bought the bacon egg and cheese for my brother and the sausage and gravy for my fiancé. They both said there was a kick to it but that it was still delicious. My brother has had Kolaches before from a place in Heber so he had something to compare them to and he said they are really good and different. On to my favorites. I love all things sweet. So I was beyond excited to try the sweet kolaches. I got one peach and one cherry. It's like a better fresh baked version of a Danish with the cheese rim and fruit center. Then you add the soft doughy center and crispy baked outside and it's a prefect breakfast dessert!! Quick, friendly service. Delicious pastries in sweet and savory options. Clean quaint shop where you can actually watch them making the dough behind the counter. Didn't give the 5 stars since I have nothing to compare it to and since I was a little disappointed in the chicken Cilantro one, but overall really excited about this place and I will be sure to come back next time I'm in Provo. read more
