Rude owner. Shady business practices. I stopped shopping and consigning here because the owner is very rude, and I think she rips everyone off. She seems to sell lower-end, drab clothing in the store and nicer items online. Her business model is not doing Cape May City any favors. While she could be selling nicer clothing in-store and being a good community spot, she is selling Goodwill-worthy clothing and not with a smile. Someone needs to tell her she can run a business on location alone for only so long - and word gets around when you're shady AF. read more

I had an excellent first experience here. The owner and assistant were extremely warm and continued to converse with me over my visit. The store is tightly packed with numerous high end brands. The pricing was fair, I left with a few pieces for myself and my daughter. I will be returning. read more

I have shopped and consigned here for quite some time. It has always been a process to get my checks - but this time is ridiculous! I have called 5 times since November to ask that they send my check - each time I am told they will be mailed the following week. I won't be consigning or shopping here any more! read more

The owner is as rude as one can be. I called 3 times for my check and it was never "cut" or sent to me. I took 6 new leather jackets w/ the retail tags on them, 2 new pair of designer shoes-never worn, and an UGG hand bag, used onced. I finally got an employee on the phone, and with all my merchandise sold- She told me I would be getting a check for $150. I asked-tell me what my stuff sold for-shoes-$20, one leather jacket $15, etc. That is unbelievable. I was told the store was not able to provide me with a print out. I believe that MB sells your items for much more money and on her computer, she commits fraud, inputting a much lower price. I am sueing the store- small claims court etc. DO NOT STEP in that store. read more

I really enjoyed this thrift store! I was saddened to see the reviews about the store owner. I was in Cape May this weekend visiting a long time family friend. First off, the woman that owns the store (I am speaking from my experience) is a business owner. She is not there to be your friend. She is there to run her business, and provide her customers with high quality, clothing/accessories in good condition. You want someone that is going to be picky about what they put in their store. How are we going to find some great buys? I must say, everything I purchased was in mint condition, and DID NOT smell. Actually, they smelled like fabric softener. My friend had told me that everything is always clean that comes from her thrift store. I left with a couple of pieces that I am very happy about, and eager to wear (without breaking the bank). I will most definitely will be back. I may bring in some clothing in the future during my next visit. Thank you! read more

Horrible owner. Sellers be very careful to get a printout of what she took in from you. She wrote me a bad check and stll owes me money. The police went to her store and were able to complel her, Maryane to replace the check but would not give me entire amount of money she owes me. She was told by the police I would take her to small claims court if she refused to pay me. Maryane replied would take her chances . She also "donated" a Calvin Klien silk blouse without my permission, and has lost some of my garments. I have read Maryann will sell clients garments on EBay snd keep the money for herself. I have shopped and consigned at The Ladies Room for years and have always been delighted with my purchases. I don't take a check for my items, I use it as a credit to buy more. Mary Beth is professional and runs a tight ship, that's why her items are always top notch. You can't be offended if she doesn't take your items if they aren't up to date, in excellent condition and in style. Telling her about negative reviews you've read from perfect strangers is no way to establish rapport. Finally, don't consign if you aren't willing to have your items donated. This shop is not only affordably priced on many designer brands (I have bought Free People and Guess for nearly yardsale prices there), but the clothing is in great shape, new items arrive daily, and the people who work there are so friendly and great! I go to Cape May once a year and this consignment shop has become one of my first stops -- even amidst the myriad shops and cute little boutiques scattered throughout Cape May! I even went there three days in a row one trip--there is that much good stuff and affordable prices!!! read more

SELLERS BEWARE!!! 1. The owner (Marybeth) is a combative blow-hard who claims to be an expert on clothing lines yet makes statements like "J Crew is sold by Anthropologie." The woman knows nothing about contemporary labels. 2. The pricing (which she sets) is way off. If you're looking to recoup some money on stuff you bought one or two years ago, you'll make 2-3x more on Tradesy or Poshmark for your prettiest clothes. The clothing I saw in there was bargain basement crap, hence her pricing strategy. Save yourself some money and DIY. 3. Good luck getting paid. If I could give 0 stars I would, but this place is so rude and the lady isn't nice at all. At first I called to see when they are open to and to see if they could give me an estimate price for 3 dresses I had. The lady who answered was very rude and she was just like"can I help you?" With and rude tone almost like I was bothering her. Then I go in there to get my dresses looked at ( all clothes must be in perfect condition ) i go up to the counter the lady told me to put my dresses down and didn't greet me in any way. She started to look at one dress and I mentioned a few reviews that I've heard from family and other people on yelp and review sites saying negative stuff and all she did was laugh and say that's not true, then threw my dress back into the bag didn't hang it back up and threw my dresses back at me and told me to get out. I live for consignment stores, and whenever I am on vacation I look for new places to discover. This place looks nice from the outside but appearances can be deceiving. I found a plaid purse for the holidays. It was not Burberry or any recognizable brand. However, when I brought it to the register I was met with a problem: the dark-haired woman who owns the place. She saw how much I wanted the bag and started to inspect it. After several minutes, she told me she couldn't sell me the bag for the price. My mom was upset because she knew how much I wanted it. I didn't want to create a scene and resolved to Yelp this shady business owner. Had I been in a big box store, the refusal to sell the item for the marked price would be illegal. Beware of this consignment shop, ladies. You will leave paying more than you bargained for. read more

DO NOT CONSIGN to Mary Beth owner of The Ladies Room. You never receive payment from her. I personally have left Hundreds of Dollars in Designer clothing, and I am still waiting for payment. Every time I go to Cape May and to her store she has a excuse not to give me payment for the consigned goods she sold. Excuses range from I have no checks in store, I ran out of checks and I am waiting to get new checks from bank, I only do bills on the 15th of the month. The last time she stated she would mail me the check. The check is in the mail, the oldest lie in the world. Guess what I never got check. What a great find! We happened upon this consignment shop and were greeted by the very friendly Mary Beth. She guided us around the store and pointed out items she thought we might like based on what we had to try on. When she saw the item I was purchasing was beginning to tear, she gave it to me(!) as she would have put it in the charity pile otherwise. On top of that, I was able to consign some items with her. This is a consignment worth driving to from my town, Ocean City. My best friend and I purchased the best additions to our wardrobes this summer there back in April. Things I can't wear enough, compliments every time I wear...and I then tell my admirers that I got my pretty shoes or flood pants at a consignment in Cape May! Like always, it feels good to be saving $$, repurposing someone else's forfeit from their closet and having so much fun while doing it because the atmosphere there is so fun. Sellers beware! Dropped items off in April 2019 at this consignment shop. It is now January and I have not received a check for my items that have sold. It's over $125 That I am owed. Every month since October I have called her and she says the checks will be cut later, the checks will be cut later. Spoke with her about a week and a half before Christmas and I said it would be nice to have the money in time for Christmas and she said to me "Yes you and 200 other people would like to have their checks". I spoke with her yesterday January 9, 2020 and asked her when my check would be cut and she said that she doesn't cut checks in January and February. I drop things off almost a year ago and I've still not been paid for them. I will never take any clothes to her establishment again. She's extremely rude and inconsiderate. I also told her that I am going to contact the Better Business Bureau and the division of consumer affairs and she said "fine,that's fine". Very poor way to run a business and keep customers coming. read more

Sometimes you just feel the need to chime in... and I do... because the reviews posted seem so unfair and without merit. This is a great consignment store run by a very fair, very with-it lady. She has great style-sense and is particular about the stuff she takes which is what I want from a secondhand shop. The women that runs store was rude and I will never return there. Bargains are just not worth it! My friend was trying on clothes which the woman was GIVING her, she had know idea where they came from. She didn't notice the sign saying where to return them when finished in dressing room. When my friend left store (I remained trying to make a purchase) she began "bad mouthing" her to her friends and completely ignored me as I waited to "check out". Met with the owner for my scheduled appointment to have her review clothing items that I wished to sell on consignment at her store. She reviewed the terms with me - 45% of selling price to me, 55% to the store. After 45 to 60 days items that did not sell would go to a half off rack and then what still didn't sell would be bundled and donated. Most of the items I had were Ralph Lauren blazer jackets, blouses and some pants/skirts suits. She told me that "classic" type items didn't sell well in her store but she would look at everything. I asked if she would come out to my car so I wouldn't have to carry everything in and she did. She picked out probably about 20 items that she would consign and we brought them in the store which had several customers. I told her I would return well within the 45 days before my unsold items would go on the half off rack as I wanted my unsold items back. Her whole attitude changed and she said she couldn't be responsible for inventory and she thought I should leave with all my items. How could she not be responsible for inventory???? She has client's clothing that she hasn't paid for so it is her responsibility to keep track of them (inventory). If she can't keep track of inventory - how can she keep track of whose items sell and for how much???? read more
