This little place was located across the street from where we were staying. We love tamales, and the reviews were good so we had to give it a try. My husband stopped over and ordered a dozen tamales, half pork and half chicken and took them to go. They came with a side of salsa also. I did not enter the store or interact with the staff, but the food was very good. We ate some right away and they were still hot and fresh. I had a hard time distinguishing between the chicken and the pork back at our kitchen, but it really didn't matter too much. There was a good ratio of meat to cornmeal and the flavors were tasty for both. You could tell the tamales were "handmade" because they were not uniform in size and the corn husk wrapping was different on each one. The salsa was good, but maybe a bit to spicy for my taste buds. We ended up freezing most of them and eating them over time. They were just as good upon reheating. I'd definitely return and get more when visiting the area. read more

Drive through Carson city each August. Last year saw this spot show up on G maps and looked it up on Yelp. Decided to try it, we love tamales, and Damn, WINNER WINNER !!! She only had beef and chix when I went, but said others could be available with advance ordering. Delicious masa, fillings were good but that masa was heavenly! And they are reasonably priced! Not easy to find this much value in a handmade specialty these days. We want to try other items such as Chile rellenos this year, along with a large assortment of tamales. If you live near here, and do not have a nearby abuelita to satiate the homestyle Mex cuisine cravings we all suffer with, eat here. After leaving the bank the other day I was craving beans and cheesy enchiladas and stumbled across this quaint restaurant off of highway 50 in Dayton. I spent the second half of my lunch here.I learned this was a second location to their Carson store. I was greeted immediately upon arrival. I browsed their menu and decided on cheese enchiladas. I have a family recipe for the best red sauce, but when I don't feel like destroying my clean kitchen and getting Chile seeds all over my counter tops; I'll order cheese enchiladas in red sauce at our local Mexican restaurants. It did hit the spot, but I wasn't a fan of the beans. The rice was good and fluffy. Overall the red sauce and rice had a really good flavor. So good we drive from Spanish Springs! Their tamales are just like grandma's homemade ones. Perfect amount of meat and the best blend of seasonings and masa. Comfortable and clean with an absolutely energetic staff at the counter. Always get an ice cold Jarrito to accompany your meal! Wow what can I say about this place? I've passed it many times and kept saying to myself. I need to try this place. So a couple of days ago I finally did. Honestly the building doesn't look like much. In fact it looks like an old KFC restaurant. But I think it was built for its current purpose. But you have to go inside and look at that menu. Which is what I did. It's called the Lady Tamales. But they offer more than just tamales. The menu is quite extensive. With standard favorites like pozole and menudo. I ordered the 3 tamales with rice and beans. Man what amazing taste. The masa was perfect as well as the ratio of masa and filling. The rice and beans also were very good. The prices are very reasonable. Especially these days. I can't wait to go back and try the other items on the menu. I am new to the area so I'm sure this is a staple in the Dayton area. Finally stopped in and ordered The Lady Tamale Special (12 tamales) with 6 chicken/6 pork- (intended on getting beef and pork but beef wasn't an option then). The chicken tamales were a tad dry and we preferred the pork, but oh Lord... and the gentleman's friendly demeanor and quick and courteous service was a flashback to "how things used to be" and was refreshing and appreciated.
