The Yelp reviews don't lie on this hole in the wall Mexican Restaurant. They only have 5 tables, but the service was excellent and the waitress was very helpful and friendly. Their salsa was outstanding, we actually bought a pint of it. We ordered their Menudo and wow, the flavors were excellent and they service it with lime wedges, white onions and cilantro on the side and homemade tortillas. We also ordered the chili rellano plate which was huge and delicious. This Mexican restaurant deserves high accolades to the chef, owner, and servers. AND I left my cell phone on the table and got almost home and realized I didn't have it with me, I drove back even though they were closed and they greeted me at the door with a smile and my phone. Another good find. When GPS brought us to here, I thought we were in the wrong place with the gas station in front, see pictures. Quality/Quantity - Complimentary Chips and Salsa - Love hearty chips, and my wife thought they were home made...? I think it was store bought... Quesabirria Tacos - 4 (small) tacos, a cup of sauce and a side of condiments, toppings. See pictures. If you have been following, I have been on a Birria Taco quest, trying this type of tacos every change I get. These were just okay. The sauce was good and it had generous meat/beef. But it lacked cheese?!?! See my last Birria Taco review at Mama Papa. Chimichanga - My wife really enjoyed this. She did not believe me when I told her that this was a deep fried burrito, lol. Generous portions, and she was only able to eat half. Guess we have dinner tonight. My wife and I felt the food was fairly authentic. BTW - EVERYONE ordered soup!! Menudo, Pozole, 7 Mares or Caldo de Res, etc! My wife really wanted to order this to try, but it was 70 degrees outside. Just means we have to come back. :) Kids menu also available. Atmosphere - Small location, the indoor and outdoor space was about the same size. Full of locals, everyone sort of knew each other which was cool. Semi open kitchen. One unisex restroom, I did not bother to check it out. Open 7 days a week from 8am to 8pm as per Yelp. Plenty of parking Service - Overall good, welcoming. Counter or table service. We kind of stood out, and not in a negative way. The owner/cashier wanted to make sure we enjoyed our meal. The waiter was a hard worker, cleaning our table, and bringing out chips and salsa to us. Back in Carson for a high school soccer game. Told our friends about this spot 5 minutes away. We haven't been since our first visit, which has proven to be a mistake. I was a bit nervous it wouldn't be as good and we told everyone it was.... They did NOT let us down and everyone loved what they had. I can definitively say these are the best quesabirria tacos I've had. Crispy shells and perfectly cooked short rib with that cheesiness. Kids menu available they even serve Dino nuggets and fries. I have been in the area very often lately or on the way to and from Dayton. I decided to stop by today since my past attempts to get food here were unsuccessful. I was happy to see they were open and went in and placed my order to-go for a chicken quesadilla, quesabirria tacos and an asada burrito. I tried everything and it was fresh and hot. The salsas were delicious and the hot red is spicy. I love eating grilled chiles with my favorite Mexican meals and appreciated the extras in my plate. Service was fairly quick and just as quickly as my order went in, it came out. I sat off to the side and watched three women working together in this small kitchen to get the orders our out and worked in beautiful harmony. Family run establishments and local businesses are my favorite to support. I think this one needs more kudos. They are attatched to the country store gas station in Carson. I believe there are just five tables in this dining room and seemed to have tables outside as well. Prices were good for the amount of food I got. I'll take that as a win in this economy. The only downside were the chips, but everything else was delicious! I'll definitely be back next time I'm in the area! read more

My rating is for customer service... We walked in this cozy restaurant, ambience looked authentic. But man... this place needs some friendly staff. We sat ourselves and waited to be served. Staff didn't even smile or said anything when we were handed the menu. After seeing that - we stood and left. That kind of service alone will turn me off regardless of how good the food may be. Really good Menudo, can tell it tastes pretty authentic. The QuesaBirria tacos this time had a lot more meat. Because of living in Southern California I've had really good QuesaBirria tacos, these were really good for this area and I hear many recommendations from locals. The Cabeza or Beef Head Taco was nice and tender, add salsa or may be bland. Place is tiny and quaint but fear not, there is extended covered outside seating. Definitely a little whole in the wall and easy to miss. But it's worth a try. We had asada super burritos and they were good. My dad and mom enjoyed the carnitas burrito and Birria tacos. My wife got the flautus and said they were alright. Comes with chips and salsa at least for dinning in. Would be nice to have jalapeños with your meal. Very odd none of the items on the menu have any pricing from food to drinks etc. read more

These are not only the BEST tacos in Carson city, but these are the best tacos I've ever had. Insanely delicious. Made to order. True, authentic Mexican food. BUT yesterday I had a vegi burrito (wife did too) and it was fantastic. I was intrigued by a hard to find Mexican dish, Taco's De Birria. It's Tacos with the shells grilled on a flattop grill after being dipped into the beef juices of slow cooked Mexican beef, then filled and folded with the tender beef with cheese and grilled onions. The beef is sort of like pulled pork, but beef. The taco's are usually served with a bowl of the juices from the slow cooking, like from the bottom of s crock pot. Yeah, it's a little rich with melted fats from the juice, but it sure tastes fantastic. So, during my search in the area for this dish, Taqueria Alonso in Carson City came up as the only Mexican place in the area to served this dish. There was one other in Reno, but that's it. Taqueria Alonso used to be another restaurant a couple of years ago, but it's still the same hole in the wall, connected to a gas station place it always was. Look for the orange storefront at the Valero Gas station. Entering, you might think you stepped into Mexico, but don't let the decor fool you, this place is the real deal. We ordered 2 full orders of the Tacos De Birria (pronounced Beer- re ya). You get 4 super filling tacos and a side of "au jus" to dip the taco in, before you slide that delicious juicy taco into your mouth. OMG! was my first reaction, oh damn is that good! Careful, they come out super hot right off the grill. You can add cilantro and more onions if you like or any of the salsas they have. The beef is spiced just right with good depth of flavors. I have never has any taco this good ever, you need to really get over here and try these! I may even try some of the other menu items, like the grilled whole fish! read more

The order was ready in a couple of minutes, and the tacos were so delicious that my partner and I will be making a special trip down from Reno just to eat here again. I don't honestly want to share my opinion because I don't want to share this with anyone. It was that good. If you like authentic Mexican food, you are headed to the right place. This food is made with love and taste just like a plate of good home cooked food in Mexico. And I mean deep in Mexico, not pretend Mexican food. They have homemade tortillas! The flavor really took me back to Guadalajara. I didn't have a chance to breathe or take a bunch of photos of my food because I ate it all. This is a small, hole in the wall place that feels like you're eating at someone's house. It's intimate and cozy. This place is located next to a gas station, but the outside is bright orange so it's pretty hard to miss. Their menu is interesting, however it's mostly pictures with words underneath each picture, so at first I was a little tripped up by it, but the lady at the front helped me out. They have all the standard meats like Al pastor, carnitas, carne asada and so on. I got 2 pastor street tacos, 2 chorizo sopes, 1 carnitas taco el patron as it was called, and a horchata. The street tacos were delicious, pastor cooked just right. They sopes were pretty good to but there was too much lettuce for my liking. Now the carnitas taco el patron was very good, but it was massive. When I ordered it, I did not expect it to be that big, even with the picture of it! So beware. And for the drink, if you know what real good horchata tastes like, just skip out on this one. It had a very weird aftertaste, reminding me of toothpaste. And the color was pristinely white, which isn't normal in my experience. Other than that, I'll still come back to this restaurant when I'm in the area, but I'd stick to a plate of 5 street tacos next time. read more
