4/6/25 FYI. Quesabirrias Tacos. Dressed up

Another good find. When GPS brought us to here, I thought we were in the wrong place with the gas station in front, see pictures. Quality/Quantity - Complimentary Chips and Salsa - Love hearty chips, and my wife thought they were home made...? I think it was store bought... Quesabirria Tacos - 4 (small) tacos, a cup of sauce and a side of condiments, toppings. See pictures. If you have been following, I have been on a Birria Taco quest, trying this type of tacos every change I get. These were just okay. The sauce was good and it had generous meat/beef. But it lacked cheese?!?! See my last Birria Taco review at Mama Papa. Chimichanga - My wife really enjoyed this. She did not believe me when I told her that this was a deep fried burrito, lol. Generous portions, and she was only able to eat half. Guess we have dinner tonight. My wife and I felt the food was fairly authentic. BTW - EVERYONE ordered soup!! Menudo, Pozole, 7 Mares or Caldo de Res, etc! My wife really wanted to order this to try, but it was 70 degrees outside. Just means we have to come back. :) Kids menu also available. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Atmosphere - Small location, the indoor and outdoor space was about the same size. Full of locals, everyone sort of knew each other which was cool. Semi open kitchen. One unisex restroom, I did not bother to check it out. Open 7 days a week from 8am to 8pm as per Yelp. Plenty of parking[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service - Overall good, welcoming. Counter or table service. We kind of stood out, and not in a negative way. The owner/cashier wanted to make sure we enjoyed our meal. The waiter was a hard worker, cleaning our table, and bringing out chips and salsa to us. Then we went to the counter to order. Price - No prices on the menus?!?! $30 + generous tip. Reasonably priced, but for a "hole in the wall"?!?! Owner Comment - Congrats on your success.

I have been in the area very often lately or on the way to and from Dayton. I decided to stop by today since my past attempts to get food here were unsuccessful. I was happy to see they were open and went in and placed my order to-go for a chicken quesadilla, quesabirria tacos and an asada burrito. I tried everything and it was fresh and hot. The salsas were delicious and the hot red is spicy. I love eating grilled chiles with my favorite Mexican meals and appreciated the extras in my plate. Service was fairly quick and just as quickly as my order went in, it came out. I sat off to the side and watched three women working together in this small kitchen to get the orders our out and worked in beautiful harmony. Family run establishments and local businesses are my favorite to support. I think this one needs more kudos. They are attatched to the country store gas station in Carson. I believe there are just five tables in this dining room and seemed to have tables outside as well. Prices were good for the amount of food I got. I'll take that as a win in this economy. The only downside were the chips, but everything else was delicious! I'll definitely be back next time I'm in the area!

Back in Carson for a high school soccer game. Told our friends about this spot 5 minutes away. We haven't been since our first visit, which has proven to be a mistake. I was a bit nervous it wouldn't be as good and we told everyone it was.... They did NOT let us down and everyone loved what they had. I can definitively say these are the best quesabirria tacos I've had. Crispy shells and perfectly cooked short rib with that cheesiness. Kids menu available they even serve Dino nuggets and fries. Good thing I don't live in Carson or I'd live here. Will return more often than once a year!!

Don't miss this lil hole in the wall! Extremely nice people serving up deliciously authentic tacos and burritos. I had the tacos patron w/chicken on one and Al pastor the other. DH had the Al Pastor burrito! Delicious food, cute place, clean as can be (with their A grade health department on display) It's not fancy and you could miss the orange facade next to the gas station, but it's well worth seeking out.

    The Menudo is recommended here!

Really good Menudo, can tell it tastes pretty authentic. The QuesaBirria tacos this time had a lot more meat. Because of living in Southern California I've had really good QuesaBirria tacos, these were really good for this area and I hear many recommendations from locals. The Cabeza or Beef Head Taco was nice and tender, add salsa or may be bland. Place is tiny and quaint but fear not, there is extended covered outside seating. Oh, the gentleman taking care of the orders is helpful and friendly, good customer service.

The food was delicious and the service was great.. I felt like I was actually at a taqueria in Mexico with the ambience...

Birria tacos with grilled onion and a carnitas chimichanga.

These are not only the BEST tacos in Carson city, but these are the best tacos I've ever had. Insanely delicious. Made to order. True, authentic Mexican food. The restaurant is clean, the staff were very welcoming and friendly, and the free chips and salsa were to die for. I ordered tacos de birria and my friend had a carnitas chimichanga. Both were incredible. Will be bringing everyone I know.

    Menu as of October 2024

I've been coming here for years and their food has never disappointed me. Their gorditas de al pastor are my favorite!

Meat was ok but the sope dough tasted old and they used shredded cheese in their burrito. And the beans and rice were bland.

Ambiance: Relaxed, family-friendly atmosphere with Mexican-inspired décor and cultural touches throughout the restaurant. There was a steady flow of guests, giving the place a lively but comfortable feel. Restrooms: Clean and decent, although a bit outdated. Service: Friendly but somewhat disorganized, possibly because we had a large group. The waitress initially told me the bartender was busy, but later realized she had never entered my drink order. She apologized and removed it from the bill. She also brought the wrong entrée for one of my friends but corrected it promptly. On a positive note, she graciously accommodated another friend's custom drink request even though it wasn't on the menu. Chips & Salsa: The first basket is complimentary. We were told additional baskets normally have a charge, but during our visit we were offered unlimited refills. Food: Fresh, authentic, and generously portioned. Recommended dishes: Salmon Atlántico, Fish Tacos, Artichoke Dip, Enchiladas, and Bistec.

We had 12 people with us (whole family in town), so we were excited to support a local place and bring them a big table of business. Unfortunately, multiple meals came out cold (5 in total), and we mentioned it immediately - calmly and respectfully - because we assumed they'd want the chance to fix it. Our waitress, Yemi, was honestly the best part of the lunch. She was attentive, kind, and genuinely apologetic. She handled everything with professionalism and grace. The manager (who may also be a cook) is what ruined it. He was angry, hostile, combative and argumentative right away - and what stood out most is he didn't even lead with solutions like re-cooking, replacing plates, or trying to make it right. No real apology for the food, and definitely no apology for the experience. It wasn't until AFTER we told him his attitude was awful and that he needs to leave us alone and let the waitress handle it (as he is making things worse) that he offered to either take the meals off the bill or remake them- and he didn't apologize at all, then with a massive chip on his shoulder he said again he didn't believe our food was cold. Some of us said take their food off the bill and some one of us had it remade. At the end as we were leaving, he actually doubled down on his awfulness and gave what felt like a sorry excuse for an apology. His version of "sorry" was basically: "I should have been nicer when telling you that you were wrong about the food being bad or cold." Then he said, "I'm sorry, I'm just really passionate about my food - especially when I'm told it was cold when I know it was hot."..... SERIOUSLY!? That's your apology for our experience and multiple people immediately telling you the food was cold, why would that many people lie.... Wow So... not an apology for our experience, not an apology for the cold food - more like "sorry you saw me get upset while I told you you were wrong." Food mistakes happen. How management handles them is what matters - and this was handled terribly. We won't be returning, and I'm sharing this so others know what to expect. Again, Yemi was great - she deserved way more support than she got.
