Came here because of the Yelp reviews, I just thought it was ok. The pozole had good flavor to it. I'm just not sure if the batch was made fresh or if it was old by the texture of the meat. The tamales combo was ok. The tamales definitely needed the salsa and the rice was flavorless. The bean was just ok. It's a little hole-in-the wall so seating is very limited. The lady was very sweet and attentive tho.

Chile relleno and pozole for the win! Rich in flavor and huge portions. Came here since my dad loves tamales. He got the beef and we got the pork: both alright. We will definitely call ahead of time for an order of the special tamales in the future, specifically the cheese and pepper. Love the house made tortillas! However, the tacos (pork, chicken, steak) all ok. Prices here are a steal. Hope they can keep them this way.

Love this restaurant , their food has been consistently great every time, other places may have raised their prices but in addition they've also shrunk their serving size as well, giving you a double whammy, very deceptive practice. This place hasn't done that, they've kept their portion size, hefty, even though they've had to raise their prices, but not unreasonably high, imo. The owner is a one woman show, she takes the order, makes the dishes, serves you and busses the table after also. The tiny area has three tables if you want to eat in, very spartan but functionally acceptable.

We're three dudes from out of town on a snowboarding trip, and this is collectively our favorite restaurant now. Amazing deals on the dozen tamales. The tacos are also *chef's kiss*. And the service! Can't be beat. Such nice people. Don't forget to grab some homemade banana bread and a FREE donut!

The Lady Tamales came through during a Yelp search in the Dayton area as I was looking for a work week lunch spot. I do not believe i would have seen this restaurant in passing. I pulled in and upon going in there was another customer in line. I could hear someone in the back kitchen area stating, "be right with you" in a warm tone. The customer in front of me looked at me and said, "I hope it's good." I told her the reviews online showed favorable reviews. I liked that there were a variety of food options all with pictures to get a sense of quantity and portions. I ordered two tamales one pork and one beef and a sunkist beverage. The tamale flavoring was good it was just a too soft texture for me. I wouldn't mind coming back to try another dish as the service was very warm and welcoming.

    Homemade salsa..Yum!

THIS LOCATION IS OPEN! These are the best tamales I have ever eaten. We ordered pork and beef tamales..we shared a Three tamale combo, added one and asked for a side of beans because I don't care for rice. They split it on two plates. Owner came out and visited with us..told us she would be at taste of Carson City that night. They are closed on Sunday and Monday, but open the rest of the week. Wild little drive to get here..but WORTH IT. Keep this place going....it is just too great....

Does anyone know if they use vegetables oil or lard for their tamales?

Probably lard because their food is amazing, authentic Mexican food. Yummy. I live in Missouri so I bought extra tamales to bring home with me.

Quality/Quantity - Complimentary Chips and Salsa - Love hearty chips, and my wife thought they were home made...? I think it was store bought... Quesabirria Tacos - 4 (small) tacos, a cup of sauce and a side of condiments, toppings. See pictures. If you have been following, I have been on a Birria Taco quest, trying this type of tacos every change I get. These were just okay. The sauce was good and it had generous meat/beef. But it lacked cheese?!?! See my last Birria Taco review at Mama Papa. Chimichanga - My wife really enjoyed this. She did not believe me when I told her that this was a deep fried burrito, lol. Generous portions, and she was only able to eat half. Guess we have dinner tonight. My wife and I felt the food was fairly authentic. BTW - EVERYONE ordered soup!! Menudo, Pozole, 7 Mares or Caldo de Res, etc! My wife really wanted to order this to try, but it was 70 degrees outside. Just means we have to come back. :) Kids menu also available. Atmosphere - Small location, the indoor and outdoor space was about the same size. Full of locals, everyone sort of knew each other which was cool. Semi open kitchen. One unisex restroom, I did not bother to check it out. Open 7 days a week from 8am to 8pm as per Yelp. Plenty of parking Service - Overall good, welcoming. Counter or table service. We kind of stood out, and not in a negative way. The owner/cashier wanted to make sure we enjoyed our meal. The waiter was a hard worker, cleaning our table, and bringing out chips and salsa to us. Then we went to the counter to order. Price - No prices on the menus?!?! $30 + generous tip. Reasonably priced, but for a "hole in the wall"?!?! Owner Comment - Congrats on your success.

We were hungry and decided we wanted Mexican food. We've been really tired of the place we've been visiting as we are regulars there. We've been really wanting to try something new and I remembered there was a place down the street from the plaza we were at. San Marcos Grill is not very hard to find. It's just off the main drag going through Carson City on Winnie Lane. We pulled in to the parking lot and I have to be honest. My first thought was wow I hope this place is good. Because I had my doubts being in a strip mall. But you never know unless you try. So we walked, and I was amazed, how awesome this place looked I'm talking very festive, very clean. Tables were well spaced out. The lady greeted us immediately and pointed us to a table where we could sit at. She was there taking our drink orders very quickly. As we sat and looked over the menu, I could not get over the size and beauty of the bar that they have in this establishment. Complete with a great selection of any kind of drink, you could possibly want also TVs that are spaced around the establishment so if you want to watch a sport event, there's not a bad seat anywhere in the restaurant. After looking over the menu, our server came to our table was a very nice young lady and took our orders. My wife chose the beef enchiladas, and a taquito, which comes with rice and beans As I always do with a new establishment, I chose the Carnitas plate. I am a Carnitas aficionado and I always try everyone's Carnitas to see if they are legit. As we're waiting for our food, I noticed an older gentleman who was just helping everybody, come to find out he is the owner. I do not know his name, but he's very friendly guy and very warm and welcoming. As I said, the establishment is very spacious and clean. The bathroom was even clean, so it was a real joy to be there, even though we were waiting on our food, which did not take very long. My wife ordered a margarita that she really liked and I just had a Modelo with a lime. The gentleman I just told you about who I think is the owner brought our food to us and it looked amazing. Needless to say, we dug right into our food and I could not get over how great these Carnitas tasted. Not everyone can make really good Carnitas, they're either dry or they're cooked too long to were they are too crispy. These are so tender and flavorful. I enjoyed every bite. My plate came with rice in a small bowl of beans, a garnish of avocado, sour cream and pico. It also came with very hot corn tortillas The tortillas, however we're spoiled and tasted really old. In fact, you can smell how old they were. I let our server know, but it was no big deal because I had tortilla chips still on the table. She offered to get me some new tortillas, but it was fine because I only use the tortilla to kind of put my food onto the fork. So the tortilla chips worked just fine. I kept trying to eat the Carnitas slowly because I was savoring it so much. I did not want to hurry and be done with the meal too fast. This was our first visit here, and I can tell you that we will be back and probably become regulars. The staff here is very wonderful welcoming and I cannot recommend this place high enough to anyone that wants a great place to eat really great Mexican food. Kudos to the staff.!

For me, the tortilla chips and salsa are a good litmus test of how the food is going to be. All I can say is the chips were AMAZING. Crisp and flavorful. These chips were clearly homemade. The salsa was meh, but the chips were amazing. On this day, we were taken care of two wonderful Latina's, which added to the authenticity of the experience. I overheard our waitress saying she was from Mexico City. Legit. Our friends ordered the Sopas and Birria "soup". The Sopas looked amazing, with a hand formed tortilla and served with a variety of proteins. Our friend ordered the carnitas and chorizo, to have a couple of flavors to sample. She said that the tortilla was bit different than "her mom would make" but did not take away anything from the dish. Her husband had the Birria "soup". I don't know if that was the official name but that's what it looked like. LOL. Served in a rich broth (not oily) were wonderfully seasoned, tender chunks of Birria beef. Whenever a Mexican restaurant offers Menudo for breakfast, I'm down. Menudo it was. This dish was served with Tripe only, lacking the familiar hominy in the dish. I came to understand, the inclusion of hominy varies, depending on where in Mexico the recipe comes from. Well, all right, now I know. The kiss of death of Menudo is if the soup is "oily". No oily broth here. The dish was perfect, served all the normal accoutrement, including onions, cilantro and oregano. Now about the tortillas. We were told that the tortillas were hand made. O-M-G. These were the most delicious corn tortillas I have ever had. I couldn't stop eating them. OMG. Last but not least, my wife ordered the breakfast burrito. She ordered it with bacon instead of the normal Chorizo. Her breakfast burrito was legit. I don't know how they prepared their potatoes but man-o-man were they good. The burrito is also served with Mexican Queso. SO GOOD. The cheese added creamy goodness to the burrito. What a great meal. The restaurant is small but super clean and the staff were amazing. We are looking forward to sampling more of the menu. Que Bueno
