We wanted to like this place so much. Now the lady running this place is the sweetest ever. 1st off, I could not tell the difference between the enchiladas as they all tasted the same. They were really dry. I'm used to sauced enchiladas. The beans had no flavor at all and same with the rice. The husband said the same about the enchiladas. The tamale looked big, but there was literally hardly any filling in it. The prices are very reasonable. $10 I believe for most plates. Has great stars, but not the place for us. They were busy and have been there forever. So I'm glad they have an awesome following. read more

Came here because of the Yelp reviews, I just thought it was ok. The pozole had good flavor to it. I'm just not sure if the batch was made fresh or if it was old by the texture of the meat. The tamales combo was ok. The tamales definitely needed the salsa and the rice was flavorless. The bean was just ok. It's a little hole-in-the wall so seating is very limited. Chile relleno and pozole for the win! Rich in flavor and huge portions. Came here since my dad loves tamales. He got the beef and we got the pork: both alright. We will definitely call ahead of time for an order of the special tamales in the future, specifically the cheese and pepper. Love the house made tortillas! Love this restaurant , their food has been consistently great every time, other places may have raised their prices but in addition they've also shrunk their serving size as well, giving you a double whammy, very deceptive practice. This place hasn't done that, they've kept their portion size, hefty, even though they've had to raise their prices, but not unreasonably high, imo. The owner is a one woman show, she takes the order, makes the dishes, serves you and busses the table after also. The tiny area has three tables if you want to eat in, very spartan but functionally acceptable. read more

The masa I really believe is what makes a tamale solid, meat wise they're really generous, but they did shrink a bit this time than what I'm used to. And the price went up from $1ish each to $20 for a dozen in the last 2 years. 5/5* Unfortunately, their steak ranchero wasn't my favorite. 3/5* I'm going to have to say for the people visiting that tamales are the way to go at this establishment. I've been coming here off and on with my family for over 15 years, and it's still one of my favorite spots when I'm craving something comforting and authentic. The prices are low, the portions are big, and everything tastes like home, the kind of food that makes you think of your grama's kitchen in Mexico. My personal favorites...pozole is delicious, the chile rellenos are always on point, and the tamales have definitely leveled up, you can now special order them with extra meat for a small charge (and trust me, it's worth it!). If I had one tiny wish, it's that the salsa was a little chunkier and spicier but honestly, that's just personal preference. Ok, I would have never found this place without the Yelp reviews but oh my goodness, so glad I did. My husband and I ordered the #10 combo plate. He ordered pork and I ordered chicken. I ordered it without beans, I can do without refried beans but when he got his he had me try his beans. They were not refried. They were so well cooked, with such an amazing depth. Anyway, before I digress...... really yummy. Did I mention it was $10 a plate for a taco, enchilada and a tamale with beans and rice!!! I bought a dozen tamales to put in the freezer because..... Wow!! We do our fair share of traveling and finding authentic Mexican food is our jam and this place checks all the boxes. Felt like I was eating love and tradition. The Lady Tamales came through during a Yelp search in the Dayton area as I was looking for a work week lunch spot. I do not believe i would have seen this restaurant in passing. I pulled in and upon going in there was another customer in line. I could hear someone in the back kitchen area stating, "be right with you" in a warm tone. The customer in front of me looked at me and said, "I hope it's good." I told her the reviews online showed favorable reviews. I liked that there were a variety of food options all with pictures to get a sense of quantity and portions. I ordered two tamales one pork and one beef and a sunkist beverage. Had an enchilada combo. Light and excellent. A continuous stream of regulars in and out with orders to go. A 'Lady' in the back continuously making holiday tamales- with special flavorings for the season. Got a bunch to take home and savor. Very neat and clean and very friendly. A wonderful hole in the wall restaurant with tasty homemade foods. This little restaurant with couple of dining tables is very underrated and unassuming but very welcoming with friendly staff. There's a pictured menu at the counter and pictures of the dishes along the wall. No prices are posted but they are mostly around $10-12 a plate and $15 for a dozen delicious tamales. I'm a huge fan of beef tamale and the one I had here was very good. We enjoyed the steak Ranchero plate and the beef trio plate and was quite happy with the size and the flavor. The pozole soup was huge and filled with large chunks of pork. Must try is the flan, which had a dense texture like a light cheesecake, which was DELICIOUS. On our way back to Tahoe from Virginia City, I found the Lady Tamale. She's in a building attached to a few other businesses in a residential neighborhood. Inside is quite small with only a few tables. There were people waiting at tables for to go orders an eat in. She took our order, #10 & #11, and told us we pay after. My heart went out to her because she was all by herself and looked so tired. Yet, she carried on. Pork and chicken tamales were the only ones left. We had pork tamales, cheese enchilada, and beef taco with rice and beans. The food was homemade and good, especially the beans. read more

I think I just died and went to food heaven... The Lady Tamales is your stop for homemade, fresh, traditional Mexican food. I mean, just look at the platters! They're simple, clean, and filling. We stopped here on the way to Carson City after camping in the Eastern Sierras. Our orders included posole, street tacos, an enchilada combo, and tamales, of course. The best food here isn't actually the tamales, it's the posole and enchiladas. When my dad ordered posole, the owner sweetly said, "It's fresh. We just made it!" He got a big bowl and my mom kept stealing his food. Before, I had never seen shrimp swimming in posole with pork. It was that good! The rice and beans reminded me of the fish taco places down in LA. For some reason, I can't find that recreated at Nor Cal Mexican restaurants... What is it about creamy beans with cotija on top?! This place just hits the spot. Now to the enchilada, the tortilla tasted homemade, the chicken was tender. The colorado sauce was unique, not over salted. It reminded my husband of his abuela's cooking. He ended up eating what little bites I had left. The workers have a good relationship with their customers. They know them by name! Wow! On our day trip to Carson City, our friend took us to a Mexican restaurant for lunch that he had eaten at previously. It's located at the back of a corner business center that houses four businesses. There's parking in the complex. The lady taking the orders does the order preps too. An owner and operator small businesses. The menu consists of 14 items, which are on a menu card on the counter and on the wall above the counter. They have tacos, burritos, chili rellenos, tamales, quesadillas, menudo, pozole and various combination plates. With so many choices, I opted for the Taco, Tamale and Enchilada combo plate so I could get a taste of several items. The chicken taco, pork tamale and beef enchilada were very tasty and the order came with rice and refried beans. If you want to enjoy your food there, they have two tables inside and a table out front. Glad my friend brought us here. Delicious and inexpensive.
