They had a special beer, beer glass, and two tacos for $12. So time to pick up the tacos from the truck. Atmosphere - Not going to rate a food truck. A classic taco truck in the Reno scene. This truck seems to have been used for a long time with the Nevada's Classic Vehicle plate. Food Lunch - Two tacos since that was part of the deal with the brewery. First option on the menu board was carne asada. I did not have to look any further. So that is what I ordered. Perfectly cooked nuggets of meat with onions, cilantro, and lime juice all on top of two small tortillas stacked on each other. I received two of those perfect street tacos. My husband rented Carlito's Calle Tacos for 3 hours for our daughters first birthday party and I believe the price was great for the quantity and quality that was given to us. We chose to get the meats Asada, Carnitas & Pastor with had pineapple pieces in it! The meat(overall taco) was so delicious and so were the rice/beans. Everyone at the party was so satisfied! I received an email this morning indicating a new food truck (to our location) would be onsite for the lunch crowd. It was here on time and ready to go when I arrived for my standard early lunch. The menu is fairly robust for a taco truck. The meat options are plentiful. There are even fish and vegetarian options. In was even surprised to see a taco salad option because many trucks don't seem to have one to avoid dealing with fresh lettuce. My order was taken promptly and turned out rather quickly. I did get nicked for a card fee. However they have it posted at the bottom of their menu. I point this out because other reviews have blasted them as maliciously over charging without signage. I am not a fan of this practice because it is openly passing the merchant fee on to the customer. However about half the trucks I frequent do this. Then again I wonder if people would get bent out of shape if the prices were simply posted fifty cents higher. I sacrificed myself by ordering a taco plate (three tacos, rice and beans $7) and an asada burrito ($8) just to get a good sample. The street tacos were the standard, tiny variety. They also offer them a la carte for $1.75. They were ok but nothing particularly stood out. The rice was a little bland. The burrito had both pico and nacho cheese. I'm personally not a fan of nacho cheese in something. As a dip or on nachos fine...in something...not so much since it tends to overpower the other ingredients. The good...The amount of food I received for the price point was quite reasonable. It is in keeping with other trucks. The pico in burrito was actually pretty tasty. I would be curious to try it on something else. I got my order fast which is a food truck essential. The bad...The girl taking my order was not very enthusiastic. I don't think we made actual eye contact once since her gaze was fixed on the order pad and her phone. As stated earlier, I'm also not a fan of openly charging customers for card merchant fees. It's the same reason I dropped a bank back in the day for charging for ATM card use at point of service locations. Overall the truck was absolutely average. This does not mean it's bad. If they are here again, I will try something else off their menu. However if they are part of an event like Food Truck Fridays, I'll probably hit one of my favorites instead. read more

Visiting Reno we saw the food truck set up as we walked by. Food looked good so we decided to order. Ordered taco plate w 3 tacos and side and Horchata. Total = $8 even. Paid w my cc and when I got my text receipt it said $8.75 so I asked the lady at the front if they overcharged me and she said we charge $0.75 per credit card transaction! Wth! If u would have told me or had a sign up I would have paid Cash she then said oh sorry in a whatever attitude. It's not the $$$ it's the principle and that itself is plain SHADY! Horchata had minimum taste and the tacos were tiny. Nothing like the Mexican food back in California what I'm used to... Overall 1 out of 5 for Plain and simple shady poor business ! I saw this truck in the Buggy Bath parking lot yesterday as I passed by on Virginia St. and I made a mental note to try it ASAP. So tonight I stopped and got two tacos (pastor and carnitas) and a sope (asada). The portions were small, but the meat was excellent! The pastor was especially awesome. The carnitas was perfectly crispy and not overly fatty. The asada and the sope it came on were also right on target. They were served along with freshly grilled onions and jalapenos, limes and radish slices. I've tried a number of taco trucks in Reno, but this is the first I've tried that might hold its own in the Bay Area, where great taco trucks are everywhere. The best thing about this truck is that they know how to prepare the meat. Anybody can sling tacos from a truck, but it takes a good cook who knows how to prepare the meat to make it awesome! I would have gotten another taco if I had known how small they were, but the quality was unmistakable. The meat at the truck down the street (Tacos La Bufa) is not as good, but its portions are much larger. If Calle Tacos' portion size matched La Bufa's, it would probably send La Bufa to another corner! The cook (owner?) said they've been at this location for four months. I hope they'll be there forever! It's a block from the Peppermill, where I'm staying, but it's so good, I'd definitely drive here if I was staying elsewhere. I highly recommend checking it out before the weather gets too cold. read more

First of all, they way over priced there food. They charge more then the restaurant does. The portion of the food is small and The food is not that great. I order the $8.00 burrito and it was way too small for $8.00 and a $1.00 can of soda. The guy who took my order said the total is $9.00 but when I checked my bank statement, it said $9.50, where did the $0.50 come from? If your charging me an Xtra $0.50 because I used my debit/credit card, then you should at least let me know or put up a sign!! This is the type of mexican food truck you have to look out for. Every time I see Carlitos Calle Tacos I HAVE to stop and get cabeza! They make the most flavorful and tender cabeza I have ever had and I am so obsessed with it. I usually get it in tacos or on a tostada so I can really taste the fatty, rich meat. And the people working at Carlitos are absolutely enchanting. They're always smiling, laughing, and joking with me throughout the transaction. And my food always comes out quickly, hot and fresh. The prices are a little high. But the quality of the food is amazing. And worth it in my opinion. I've also never been surprised by the credit card fees, as it always states it somewhere on the menu or I am verbally told before using my card! Maybe they've learned from past discrepancies.. A bunch of us (dozens actually) just found this truck last week at the Eddy downtown and begged them to keep coming back. Absolutely perfect carne asada tacos and one of the very first places that I've ever felt the salsa was actually hot enough! Having lived in Mexico for several years, I definitely find myself yearning for flavors that I miss from there and this truck took me back. Stopped by this food truck during food truck Friday at idlewild Park. I was super excited because it was the mexican food with the longest line. However, when I was ready to pay, the cashier stated that they did not have change and I needed to use a credit card. Luckily, my credit card gives me alerts when a purchase is made and I noticed I was charged a 50 cent upcharge for using a credit card. When I asked the cashier, she was rude and argumentative but eventually gave me my 50 cents. Obviously this is a small amount, but it is the principle and the food was overpriced to begin with. Not to mention the food was sub-par, bland and extremely greasy. Even adding salsa did not improve the lack of flavor. I recommend one of the other trucks who have friendlier staff and more authentic, yummy mexican food. read more

Visited this truck today and was a bit disappointed. I was very interested in them when I saw that their menu said that they made Mexican Hot Dogs. Sadly, they did not meet up to my expectations. For $6 I received a hot dog with a piece of undercooked bacon on the side of a sausage with little tomato and onion, some refried beans, and topped off with nacho cheese. The dish was not very tasty and I was very let down on the fact that it was not even close to a real Mexican hot dog. I hope that they can maybe go back and compare their hotdogs to a real Mexican Hot Dog so that they don't disappoint others. read more
