Service Yeah, we had to wait forever also. I think it's because they are more bar than grill. My big problem was they had removed items from the menu due to being out of burger. Sure would have been nice to have been told about that prior to ordering drinks and appetizer. And honestly, if you run out of burger, there are plenty of places to pick up some ground beef within a mile of their place. Also out of tea. How do you run out of tea? Get a tea bag and add some water. I guess it is easier to just be lazy and do nothing. Lastly, the bartender is quite the snippy one. I don't think this place has a thought of the customer though from the other reviews I see. Food Well, my wife did get the French Dip. Meat to bun ratio was definitely in the bread and their profit margin side. I'll attach a photo. More like a bread sandwich. Fries are really good. The jalapeño nails were ok. They say they prepare them there, but they sure tasted like frozen and fried. I'll defer to them saying it's in-house, but that isn't saying much for them then. So, 50/50 on the food. Service is not good like others are saying. And it takes forever to get the simplest of menu item. There are a bunch of nice places in Lake City. If I were visiting, I'd avoid this place and take my $$ elsewhere. I read another persons review that the owner was drinkin' in his place and being less than cordial around his customers. Three of us came in on 6/15/24 around 7pm. We weren't told there was an hour wait on food until after we ordered drinks and food. It took 45 minutes to receive the appetizer, and it was extremely oily and undercooked. Our drink glasses were dirty. Went with our dog, called a head to ensure they allow dogs. There were 7 of us, only one meal came out right. I go to Lake City with my mom and two sisters every year and we do dinner and a mini bar crawl. This year we went to Hammers for the first time. The restaurant front looks like any other on the main drag, and when you step inside, there's a typical small town pub inside. But whisper those magic words "we'll sit outside" to the host, and you will have a fantastic repast overlooking the lake. When we were there, it was early in to lunch and the patio was almost empty. Sip a lemonade, enjoy a chicken avocado club, or perhaps throw back a few brews from the tap. Prices are reasonable. Needs some locally caught fish on the menu for a nice fish sandwich, though. Couldn't have asked for a better night to eat outside. Hammer's has a great menu with lots of options. You must try the Frickle's - pickle and cheese rolled in ham and deep friend. Very good, very unique. We both had pasta dishes - they were OK. Not spectacular but they were good. Service (I think his name was Mike) was outstanding! Only negative comment was our food took FOREVER - about 30 minutes from the time we ordered to the time it was at our table. It wasn't an especially busy night either, so I was a little disappointed by the extended wait. Nonetheless, we had enough positives that I'm looking forward to our next visit! read more

Stopped at Hammer's as we were on our way home from Buckleys Old Engine show. We did a quick google search and decided to try this place. Let me say; NOT DISSAPPOINTED..... the food was really good. The boy and I got burgers and the were amazingly good. Wife got a stir fry that came in a grilled 1/2 pineapple. Daughter unit got a kids meal and was very happy. The outside of the building was just normal but a great abiance from the patio looking over the lake. The inside was neatly decorated and very clean. What a nice little place, very clean and friendly staff. The portions are huge, I mean huge we had dinner when we arrived to our destination. I had the perch basket. It had 6 or 7 pieces of fish ( back home they serve you just 3) it was so yummy, the best I've ever had. I also ordered sweet potato fries that were so good. My husband ordered a grill chicken club that apparently was delicious too. He had his leftover half for dinner. Our server was very nice and welcoming, she is married to a military man (Thank you for your service) I don't recall her name but she was really nice and took great care of us. So, I've not reviewed anything since the start of covid. Restaurants are struggling to stay afloat, and their food, after losing kitchen staff, has not been top tier for that particular establishment. However, just did takeout from this chill spot on the lake in Lake City, Mi. While waiting for carryout, had a chance to talk to the owners, Luke and Lynne, great folks who obviously care about their staff and are invested in the town. What's good, I ask. Everything, they say. Typical, right? They weren't kidding. Best. Darned. Meatloaf. Ever. Their three meat blend is everything they claim it is. My son says the hamburgers are off the hook, and I believe him. Also love the back porch with real wood fire pits. Smells great, and did I see some blankets that patrons can use? That's awesome. Went last year for Valentine's dinner with my wife and we both thought it was good this year sadly it was a terrible experience first on their Facebook and on their specials menu the dinner special says 12oz porterhouse but the waitress said it was a 10oz I'd be surprised if it was even 10 how thinly it was sliced anyhow the dinner comes with a appetizer my wife has celiac's and can't have gluten so we opted for jalapeño nail guns from what the menu read it was jalapeños stuffed with bacon bits sour cream and wrapped in bacon but what came out was not wrapped in bacon but wrapped in wonton wrappers so they were not gluten free and apparently that's how they are made so the menu is wrong and all the other appetizers are deep fried in something so that eliminates a gluten free option no big deal just wish we would of know this before ordering it next out came our entrées we both ordered our steak rare but being very thin and over cooked we got well done they did replace them so that's good but really for a price tag of 85 it's sad it can't be thicker and the cook know what's going on, my broccoli smelled like it was boiled in the same water as the shrimp and tasted like it (yes the shrimp tasted boiled and rubbery) so I got a second side of mashed potatoes they were okay just very small serving of them which being potatoes you'd think they wouldn't skimp on. Last was my drink I ordered a whiskey sour about the only bourbon they had was Jim beam what came out was a old fashioned had the cherries orange looked to be what it was but not what I ordered they did fix it was the whole dinner this year felt like stumbling down an alley. On our way to Houghton Lake we decided to stop here for a couple drinks & a meal. Wow! What a hidden gem! Rhonda was our waitress and she was spot on with recommendations. She recommended the hanger steak to my wife & I. The steaks were cooked perfectly without over seasoning. These steaks rival any big city steaks we've ever had! The sides complimented the steaks perfectly. No issues with our drinks. Rhonda had also recommended the stir fry which we'll try next time! Not a bad place. Overpriced for what we got. We ordered the Pulled Pork Nachos. Not a bad idea, but the huge hunks of pork and the cheese- which there wasn't nearly enough of- having been microwaved into another substance made it unappealing. It would have been a nice dish otherwise. Also considering the waitress never came back so we could ask her for the salsa and sour cream which was supposed to have been served with it to begin with it became a less than acceptable dinning experience. Our first visit to Hammers. We loved the Food Factory and was hoping it was still good food. Hammers did not disappoint! I had 3 soft shell tacos, shredded beef, cod, and shrimp, all very good, and fresh. Daughter had mac-n-cheese with shrimp. She ate all of it which is not the ordinary. The wife had the special BBQ chicken breast. All priced reasonably. I lost count of how many beers were on tap, but I had coffee that was very good. Didn't expect much from a place like this in a small town. Good tap list with a mix of domestic beers, a cider and several microbrews. Great variety on the menu.
