    Beans, rice, and toppings

This was our first time here and we were excited to find a Mexican place on this side of town. The chips were nice and warm and the salsa and beans were very tasty. I loved my blackberry margarita but a little bummed there was no salt on the rim so next time I'll ask if they can add that. The bacon wrapped shrimp I ordered was incredibly delicious and I layered it on a tortilla with beans, grilled veggies, sour cream, and pico and it was amazing! I also enjoyed the beans and rice on the side and thought my meal was delicious. My man ordered a carne asada burrito and we thought the meat was delicious however the burrito wasn't our favorite so next time we will try something else for him. The service was great and all the ladies were informative, nice, and attentive. The ambiance and atmosphere was nice too and it had an authentic vibe. I can't wait to try other items here when we go back again!!

The food was amazing and plenty of it. The service was great - no waiting. The cheese enchiladas were amazing - had a really good sauce. The ambiance was good considering it an open concept. Would return for sure.

My friend from Whidbey requested this for take out and called it "Island Mexican food". Maybe I'm too much of a mainlander but it wasn't my cup of tea. My fajita salad was just a few strips of beef with lettuce, eggs, uncooked mushroom, and a few bits of avocado. It didn't even come with any dressing. My friend got the carne asada and loved it, though it seemed like a small portion for the price to me. My wife got one of the biggest burritos I've ever seen; it was ok.

Came here starving after driving off the ferry! I was so happy to find this place off in the corner of a strip mall off the highway. Stuff tried: Enchiladas espinaca: spinach enchiladas which i havent seen on many menus. Great garlicky spinach inside two enchiladas. With the mexican rice and refried beans, a nice meal. Chile relleno: i almost always try this dish whenever i see it on the menu! I asked if i could get this a la carte (not listed as an option on menu) and they were nice enough to accomodate. Version here is pretty solid and the pepper still has a tiny bit of spicy heat! Complimentary tortilla chips were very fresh out of the fryer and were great with excellent salsa! Do yourself a favor and ask for some extra salsa to pour on everything.

Our favorite Mexican Restaurant here in Whidbey Island. The staff are always welcoming and friendly. The service is fast and the food are always delicious. The salsa and chips always tasted fresh. Our favorites are the combination menus. We like the cheese enchiladas, burrito with shredded beef, chile relleno and chimichanga.

The food is nasty. It's a cheap knockoff of Mexican food. Messed up orders. Poor service and quality.

In long I came in for lunch on a quiet Friday--one party of friends was leaving, one party of co-workers was filling up another table. The dining room felt super empty right at lunch hour. Probably could seat 50 people. Dude was working the floor by himself. They have some flat screens up, showing whatever's clever. There's a full bar, but the cocktail menu is even shorter than the food menu, which isn't long. They seem to want to go for that family-place vibe, including the sports-focused bar area, but their space just isn't big enough to really bring that to life. I ordered carne asada for $28. You get a nice serving of steak with real grill marks and nice smoky aroma and flavor. Rice, beans, a little guac, some pico, and 3 tortillas. Hearty enough for lunch, though the menu says "dinner portion only," and that made me wonder for a second if lunch portions are usually much smaller. All the flavors were right on, and dude kept my iced tea full. Word of mouth on this place is kinda mixed around here, despite the solid rate here. I'd go back, but even just for the sports-bar/family-Mexican restaurant segment, there are multiple options nearby that have more resources (even if the food here is just as good).

The menu is not large but filled with genuine home cooked REAL Mexican standards, not some artificial "Americanized" replicas. We both chose the Carne Asada Plate and it was amazing, cooked to order perfectly with rice, beans and guacamole with a roasted pepper and of course our choice of flour or corn tortillas. It was the best Mexican food I've eaten since leaving my beautiful Arizona 13 years ago. The server was polite and prompt, if not very friendly but strictly professional. I will go back and highly recommend trying this place out if you want REAL Mexican food.

One of the front desk staff recommended El Molcajete Mexican Grill, about a 5 minute easy drive away. Parking is right out front and there is plenty of it. Handicapped too, with no stairs or steps to get in or out. Nice, clean, welcoming and I LOVED the carved Mexican diningroom chairs with the hand painted agave plants. The artwork on the walls was mighty impressive too. Very pleasant. It was not crowded the night we went and it felt like a local, "regulars" crowd. Older, with lots of experience with the giant Margaritas served. I think there was at least one at every table. Husband tried the CAMARONES A LA DIABLA ($23): grilled shrimp with hot red sauce. Served with lettuce, sour cream, tomatoes, onions, rice, beans, avocado slices and tortillas. It was HUGE. The plate it was served on reminded me of the turn-table plate from a microwave oven! I tried the TACOS DE CAMARON ($23): grilled shrimp folded in three corn tortillas drenched with red sauce. Served with lettuce, sour cream, tomatoes, onions, bell peppers, rice, beans and avocado slices. I actually would have just ordered the regular street tacos if I had known mine was going to be drenched in red sauce. Both meals were tasty but neither of us could finish the huge portions. Staff is friendly & efficient. Food arrived very quickly too. There are two TVs on the wall, both tuned to some sporting event. I believe the sound was off as I also heard Mexican music quietly playing in the background. Nice place if this is your vibe for Mexican food (aka Tex-Mex). You won't leave hungry or unhappy, especially if you have a giant Margarita!
