This place was a very pleasant surprise. I have come not to expect too much from high traffic places trying to rock the "dark and dank dive bar" vibe to get in all the local hipsters. But the folks at Lansdowne Pub seem to really know what they are doing. To start, right after walking in the door I noticed that the music was at the perfect volume. Loud, but not so loud that I couldn't speak to the people next to me. Anyone who has been to a bar in Queens recently will tell you that this is an extremely important point that way too many bar owners over look. I also noticed that there was plenty of room to move around. The table to floor space ratio made it possible to get a seat in under 10 minutes without having to bump 20 some odd peoples chairs along the way. Bonus points for that. This next point might matter to me more than others (blame it on the day job) but I was very happy with the lighting at LP. Dim but not dark, incandescent not fluorescent, warm tones, and most of the lights were positioned against the walls creating a nice side lighting. For anyone who wants to drink 5+ cocktails and would still like to look half way decent to a perspective mate, this is a very big deal. Drinks. My extremely friendly bartender (Dimitry? Dominic?) started me off with a perfectly mixed whiskey sour. I always test bartenders the first time with a simple mixer such as this to see how much care and precision they put into making my drink even when it is basic. This guy did not let me down. He then gave me the run down on several of the different varieties of wine they had (at an Irish pub style dive bar, yes) and was kind enough to tell me which ones were good as well as which ones sucked. The food was basic, but handled with care. Simple sliders that were grilled to peek tenderness, buffalo wings with a wonderful flavor, potato skins that were crispy on the outside, soft in the middle, etc. I would definitely recommend this bar. Except for Sundays. A dozen tvs and a 12 foot projector screen and they only show one game at a time. Come on guys. We're not living in the stone age here. Get with it. read more

Went to watch a soccer game and have brunch with friends. My breakfast pie was dry. Menu was pricey for the run down skanky Fenway area. There was only one waitress to service the entire dining area. Now that we have the negative points out of the way. This place was huge! The men' bathroom was private, clean & large. Place looked great. The Guinness was perfect. I would definitely go back to try something else on the menu. The 4 stars were mainly for the facilities (wood everywhere, great bathroom, nice decorating touches and a great looking bar) and the Guinness. read more

This is a tough one to review, so I'm trying to be as fair as possible... I wish there was a 2.5 star rating I could give because 2 seems too stingy and 3 seems to generous... Granted, the stars of the universe may have aligned perfectly to set my girlfriend and me up for a meal we couldn't care less for. It is possible we just ordered the worst items on the menu. Anyway, here we go: We arrived and it was very uncrowded as we went on a random Monday evening when there were no Boston games played at all, so we sat right away. The service was on point; the host greeted us right away, and the waitress was courteous. She accommodated my request to put the Pittsburgh vs Washington hockey game on, even though she seemed surprised (put off even) that I wanted a hockey game on that didn't star the Bruins. It was almost like she couldn't believe that someone just watched hockey unless it was for the home team, but that was just funny and didn't take away from the experience. In fact, we had a laugh about it as she changed the channel. The busboy was also right there when he was needed, so all-in-all, the staff gets an A... A-. However! First things first, and I don't know why this ALWAYS seems to happen when I order one of these, but they were out of Magners Cider. I don't know what the deal is with restaurants and restocking their Magners, but everyone seems to be fresh out just as soon as I order one. My girlfriend ordered a diet Coke, and it was flat. So, right from the start, I was feeling down. Then we ordered the appetizers. I got the beef and lamb chili, which was good. It wasn't great, it was just average. My girlfriend got the blue cheese potato patties (I don't know if that's the technical name for them), and they were very bland. My girlfriend had a stuffy nose and couldn't taste any of them, but she wasn't missing much, because they weren't very flavorful anyway. For our meals, I ordered the (it sickens me to even remember them) Battered Sausage Supper. Now, I guess I'm partly to blame for this one, because for some reason I over-looked the "Battered" part and was quite surprised when I literally got deep-fried, beer-battered sausages. Sure, I was taken aback, but before I dug in, I thought, "This could actually end up being the best food mistake of my life. I like beer-batteredness and I like sausages, so why not combine the two and make a heavenly meal unlike any other!?!?" The only problem was that they were the worst food I've ever tasted and I've eaten broccoli and asparagus. I managed to gag one down because I paid for it and I'm never one to send food back, but after every bite I had to chase it with a fist full of french fries, which they call "chips" (oooooo, classy!). My girl ordered the baby spinach leaf, blue cheese, and chicken salad, but without the red peppers in it. Now, I don't eat spinach, so I can only go by what she said, and she gave it a thumbs down. She was upset by the fact that the salad doesn't come with dressing on it (besides the blue cheese), and after drizzling lemon juice on it, she was still unimpressed and said, "I'm not going to be in a rush to get back here." And I agree. While the service was good (I just expect that kind of service at any restaurant though) and prices were reasonable, we didn't really enjoy anything we ate exceptionally. The one thing we did like, the chili, was only average and I could get average chili anywhere. I think that this experience has me thinking that if you want to eat a good meal out... This place is a lot of fun. This might be the best bar I've been to in Boston. I was here when there was some live music, and not only was the music great, but the place was packed to the gills, there was only a $5 cover, and the drinks weren't as expensive as some of the places around (I'm looking at you Jillian's/Tequila Rain). If you're in the mood to go to a bar and dance without a club-like feel, this is the perfect place. It's hard to find good bars in this area because of how easy it is to get away with a sub-par bar. This one goes above and beyond. If you're out in the fenway area, and you want to dance to some decent music with a ton of other people, I highly recommend this place. read more

Been here a million times. The Pub has great ambiance and a perfect atmosphere to hang out and drink with friends. Bartender Nick M is AMAZING! If it's not busy, he'll work with you to make a special drink just for you. He's very friendly, fast, and accurate. Truly a great bartender. I wouldn't suggest eating a full meal there; apps are okay but there are much better restaurants in the area for a meal. If you're actually 21+, I wouldn't suggest going here on a Friday or Saturday night. There's usually a decent sized line to get into the steamy, sloppy, college dance party scene. You will come. You will dance. You will get drunk. Landsdowne is a mainstay for my friends because it is always full of people and usually has some great live bands. People who consider this place a nightclub comparison to places like market or royale are out of their skulls, it's basically a good version of a Fanueil Hall bar (if that makes sense to you then you are a Bostonian youth) with plenty of room to dance, cheaper drinks, and really convenient location. It is a great spot to grab drinks before/after a Red Sox game or a concert at House of Blues and actually has some pretty solid burgers for a quick pregame meal. Definitely a solid place to spend your Friday/Saturday night. Note: I have heard of the live karaoke on Thursdays but have not yet made it out to it. Been here twice, once before a concert in October to get feeling nice for cheap. Was just here last weekend, and again -- cheap beverages but this time, a dancefloor appears! It was hilarious watching a bunch of people fist pump and hop up and down to god awful techno remixes of top 40 songs. Just keep drinking and you'll join them too. $5 cover, not bad at all. R.I.P Jake Ivory's :( Ok I'l admit, I am giving this place an extra star only because I will have fond memories from the pre/post Paul Mcartney show on 8/5 ... A dear friend and I attended the show and believe it or not this was the only place before the show that had seating! This place is seriously the generic standard Irish /Boston/ touristyyyyyyy pub that people from the Mid west default to in their brain when someone says Irish pub. Seriously. There are corny photos of prominent Irish figures in history everywhere. Yes, the TVs are great and plentiful and the beer is cold so thats what really matters right? The bathrooms ( at least the ladies room) was pretty clean, but this is a new place and that may change rapidly. The dark woods, dim lights and crazy huge metal door with a Guinness logo are definately things that grew on me while we were there. I had the burger. Nothing fancy or specatcular but I would get it again. My friend had a classic chicken sandwich and we shared some damn good tater skins... not enough quantity there though. After the best show I have seen in my life (aka Paul Mcartney) we returned to the Lansdowne to hear a Beatles cover band and it was really great! The mood was jumpin and the place was packed with folks muucchh older than you would normally see here, but given the occasion it was all really good fun... I'll be back!!!! read more

We got right in; came in on the home opener and got there maybe in the second or third inning. I had a good time! The place is really big and it was packed. Everyone was so happy! GO SOX! I'm excited to go back again. We got a bar spot in the back against the wall and ordered some apps to snack on while watching the game and drinking. The "Irish Nachos," yeah no.. I had no idea they'd be French fries like that.. but I was drunk at that point so food was food.. but next time I'll know better. We had a blast there watching the game and conversing with everyone because everyone was friends with anyone this day.. you know sometimes that's how it's like at a bar; which is really cool and gives it a homey feel. I had my goodbye party here last night. Everything, from arranging everything with the planners to the party itself, was absolutely perfect. Everyone at the restaurant was incredibly helpful with everything, making sure my partygoers were all set to getting the apps out quickly. It's also an incredibly beautiful bar, and in a nice location (Fenway). It's an ideal place to either grab a beer during the game, or on non-game nights, to just get some food and check out the bands, as well as a wonderful place to throw a shindig :D read more

This place, for me, has it all. Could it be the constant live bands, the humungous dance floor, the fantastic bar service, the drink deals, the huge TVs, or maybe the fact that everytime I leave my coat in a dark corner it never seems to get stolen because people are having too much of a good damn time to do shady crap - who knows. But I love everything about it. I usually go here after a Sox game or just for a random night that doesn't involve the Fanueil area and it never ceases to be awesome. Lines are short, beers are decently priced, shots flow, and the bands rock some awesome music. Major props to Lansdowne, who contacted me after my initial review, apologetic about the BC Law party and offering a VIP table with apps the next time my friends and I came in. Um, yes! Setting it up was a piece of cake, we had the whole middle table reserved just for us, and they sent over loads and loads of complimentary food for us... giant platters of chicken fingers, potato skins, and whole wheat grilled cheeses, yum. Plus a complimentary draft for each person, and a very attentive waitress. Thanks, Lansdowne! Excellent customer service, very pleased. The band for Live Band Karaoke seemed pretty good, they were playing some good tunes to get the crowd going, but then went on break for about an hour, leaving the natives restless and the time ticking away... I think they said they lost their set list or something? Which didn't seem to matter, because I got the impression that the majority of people there (and it was pretty packed) were regulars and had already memorized said set list, and by the time we went up to put our names down, the list was onto the second page. It got to be too late for us (work night and all that) so we weren't able to stay and perform, but those who did get a chance to rock out with the band seemed to have a ton of fun, as did the rest of the spectators. Too bad about the delay, hopefully next time we're there, the band will start in a timely manner and we can get our turn in before having to hit the hay... read more

I am definitely a fan of brunch here! I made a reservation for a Saturday almost-afternoon, the place was empty. However, within the hour, the place was jammed so I like that I was able to make the reservation just in case. The events manager replied to my reservation request quickly and that was appreciated. What I liked: The server was very nice and efficient. The drinks were good, although I would have liked to see Mimosa options. My favorite was the house-made sausage. It was really delicious. My husband got the breakfast pie and it was really good. I have never seen anything like that at another breakfast place. Our friends ate lunch, and really enjoyed their food. It is really dark in there so going in while it's daylight out is tough but I think the food was worth it and I will definitely be back to try the pancakes! read more

I live in the area so I was excited to try the new place nearby. I decided to give it a go on a game day at 7:30 so I went in not sure what to expect for service but the pre-game crowd had dissapaited and The Lansdowne staff was quick and attentive. The food is a bit pricey for bar food but everything here is much nicer and tastier than the average bar around Fenway. Having lived in London for a year, it reminded me a lot of the pubs I went to there and has an inviting and warm feeling. Onto the important stuff: The food was all very good. The portions are big and so are the flavors. We had the muscles appetizer based on the recommendations of yelp reviews I read before going and it was delicious. The chips (french fries) are very good and so was the burger, salmon, and a salad, which were the entrees for my group of three. Most importantly it is $5 for good draft beer such as the Sam Adams Red Brick that we drank which is better than the price of premium drafts anywhere else. All in all, a welcome addition to the neighborhood and I will definitely be back, especially for the weekend special Full Irish Breakfast. I am very interested to see what its like at night when a lot of people are in there as I think the space can do very well for a big crowd. UPDATE: Went out here a couple times now. Once on a Thursday and once on a Saturday Night. Had a good time both times. More laid back on Thursday compared to Game-On or The Cask, probably due to the cover charge to pay the band. There were good cover bands both times I went and the one on Saturday was particularly awesome (or I was just drunker). I really like this place and will probably be back a lot more. read more

I like ya, Landsdowne. I like you even though I got sloshed one night and met a soon-to-be crazy ex-boyfriend there. I don't blame you for that though, I blame that on Tequila. This place usually comes with a pretty consistant, friendly crowd. It gets pretty busy on the weekend, and I like that because I meet more people. The bartenders are good people. I've only ever disliked one, and i'm pretty sure he was a manager, so he doesn't really count. Just know the days you're going. If its a weeknight, theres a chance there might only be one or two other people there. (P.S The Sliders are AMAZING) read more

The reviews seem to imply that this place would be decent for food and a few beers.Especially if you're in the Fenway area. However, I have come here twice at peak partying hours on the weekend. I have to say, both times it was equally disappointing. For some reason, they charge a $5 cover. Perhaps it's for the seemingly undeserving cover bands that play there. While I was there, I thought I'd be funny and order a gin fizz. To my surpsrise, the bartender didn't even know what a gin fizz was. After explaing it to her, she made one for me, and it a was as good as mixed drinks are from any of these kinds of bars. I went there again last night with a ton of friends and had another really really good time. This remains my favorite boston bar however I got to give it a 4 star rating this time instead of a five cause the band last night was not nearly as good as some of the ones that played their in the past. I didn't like the guys voice that much and the play list wasn't quit as good. I also had to wait a bit longer for drinks but still a less than average wait considering how crowded it was. The girl guy ratio is about 50/50 which is nice for everyone and the best part is there is no huge line to wait on last night. Great place. read more

I've been to Lansdowne once before (for drinkin') and we were in the area and looking for dinner yesterday and Yelp Mobile suggested this spot when we searched 'pubs.' I actually was surprised at the tastiness of the food here. We started with the homemade chips and cheese dip (it was devoured) and being at an Irish pub...I had to go with the Shepherd's Pie (also devoured). I have now been here a few times - for Yelp Office Hours, to watch a few bands, for Live Band Karaoke, after a Red Sox game (whoops - and no, I was not at the game), and just for the hell of it with friends. I have been here for drinks - I have been here for food - I have been here for food and drinks. I am not in love with this place, but at the same time, it is better than a lot of the Fenway alternatives, by far! My servers have always been awesome and my bartenders pretty decent. It is a good hang out stop to meet people, but once music - band or karaoke kicks up, don't expect to have conversation of any type. I did recently discover the little bar off to the back side behind the main bar. I had no idea they were joined. Shoulder to shoulder full of people. There was a live band that was playing some classic rock. I was loving it. The band even grabbed me to come on stage and rock it out with them but the bouncers werent having it. BOOOO!!! Much later that night, the band stopped and a DJ started. The music was the usual top 40 hip hop. The drinks were decent (I dont remember how expensive...) but I do remember having a great time. *wink* The place is large and clean, which is not common for boston bars. +1 I cant wait to come back to this place....I only hope its as good when the sox arent playing. read more

I entered The Lansdowne Pub on the weekend of my 30th birthday, to find a corner room full of friends and family. It was amazing. There was a cover band, and the group I was with overflowed throughout the pub. It's a gigantic pub across the street from Fenway Park, and I think it's a notch above some of the other options in the immediate area. They had Irish brown bread grilled cheese sandwiches, which were amazing as they sound. I was raised on Irish brown bread, and this was an incredible discovery. My life will never be the same. I hope to return to the Lansdowne Pub during the baseball season! read more

It's weird to say but you got so many reasons why this place could go wrong. I think it's the kind of Irish pub we've all seen all over the place. So except the fact it's beside my favorite baseball park, it doesn't really have anything exceptionnal. (that's only reason why i didn't put a 5 stars). Other then that: charming and welcoming staff. Really outgoing waitress which is definietly a plus. It wasn't a game night therefore that could also be a reason why I didn't put a 5th star but still, without a game we got some good food, not expensive (especially for a place near the Fenway Park, it could easely go way more pricy) A decent variety of beer and an open Terasse (Patio?) where even though it wasn't that of a great temperature was good enough read more

The food here is pretty good but the service is really slow. Our table was the first and only to order food but there was still a good 40 minute wait which is unacceptable for brunch. I'm very happy that my first time at Lansdowne since I've been back at Boston was a good one. I brought some visiting friends over to the Fenway area Friday night so that they could get a real taste of the Red Sox love (Lansdowne St. was packed even after a pretty bad loss against the Blue Jays). I was hesitant to go back into Lansdowne, especially when I saw the line accumulating outside the bar. Luckily, a friend of mine knew a "secret" way to get past the line so we went right on. The pub was not nearly as packed full as it had been in my previous experiences and it was fairly easy to make it to the bar and come back with a drink within 5 minutes. I was also happy to see they handled the tragic situation that had recently occurred by switching to plastic cups. Overall, Lansdowne has stepped it's game up - it still has all the positives I had described in my last review but is now even better :) read more

Went back on a Thursday, and, after sluggin a few cocktails, found myself onstage with a few friends singing Toby Keith... Soooo YEAH, had a great time. I added +1 star because of the fact that Landsdowne is connected to another bar (Bill's). Went on a Friday night. Cover was $5. Bud light was $5. The place wasn't too crowded, and there were some decent looking guys there. The crowd consisted mainly of caucasian college grads-30 year olds. The beginning of the night they played alternative stuff like Kings of Leon and Journey. The music got progressively better for dancing with more top 40s stuff. The real save on the dancing was next door at Bill's. The DJ at Bill's played: 25% hip-hop 25% top 40 remixes 25% house and 23% dub step 2% hard rock (???) I could have done without the dubstep... It was really nice having my pick of bar-ish or club-ish scene. Especially since my group of friends is split on the type of scene they like. So everybody was happy with Landsdowne/Bills. read more

One of the cleaner, less populated establishments in the area. I think their little room in the back is a nice touch and that's the best part about this place. I saw a decent band play here, too. I haven't had the food, except for some typical apps. I haven't had any booze since I was the driver. But the ginger ale and water was good. The bathrooms were fairly clean, too. Always a bonus. Before the Sox game my sister and I were starved. I wanted to go to Bleacher Bar but as the game had already started it was way packed. We compromised on here and were pleasantly surprised. The friendly host/manager(?) was cute and inviting, hostesses and bartenders charmingly Irish, and the waitress competent and timely. The chicken bites were cooked perfectly and the blu cheese mix with buffalo sauce was amazing. My sisters onion tomato compote chicken sandwich was juicy and delicious. So much of an improvement over the beer soaked, drunken baccalaureate haven that was Jake Ivory's. Cool crowd too if I had not had tix I would have liked to hang out there. I've spent many nights at this bar and god if those walls could talk. Overall they have good drinks, live music, and coatcheck if need be. Things get a bit messy on a busy night during the summer but always a fun place to dance and drink with your girlfriends and hang out with a big group. read more

Landsdowne is the type of place that you can depend on if you are in need of a bar on a Fri/Sat night with decent drinks, a large space, and a solid cover band. Unfortunately, the food is subpar if you need to eat, the cover charge is annoying, and the line in the winter will make you second guess your choice of venue. Overall, Landsdowne accomplishes what it sets out to be and assuming you are in the right mind set you won't have a bad time.
