Folks, do your research before going to this place. I wish I had. This business is not BBB accredited and it's not surprising why after my experience with them and after reading the BBB complaints. I had a disappointing and truly weird experience with this LASIK provider. The staff used high-pressure sales tactics, pushed a credit card I wasn't comfortable with, were wildly disorganized, and were unclear about scheduling and payment plans. The day of my surgery, they claimed I needed another eye exam--despite already having one during my initial consultation. They got me confused with another patient and the woman who worked there seemed like she was confused about everything happening around her. Wasn't feeling super confident at this point but I was already there and prepped. A minute before my surgery they suddenly decided I was no longer a LASIK candidate because of some major issue with my eye they doesn't seem to exist according my actual eye doctor and they didn't appear to see during my eye exam during the consultation. Weird? They recommended a different more expensive procedure instead. That was the final straw. I walked out and requested a refund for the deposit I already provided them. The overall experience was disorganized and sales-driven rather than patient-focused. I'm glad all of that happened actually because I didn't bother to look them up on BBB until after all this happened. The staff were all really nice except the old, male doctor, who was extremely rude and made me feel worse about my anxiety related to the procedure. But other than the staff being really nice, the rest of my experience was terrible. They just make you feel like cattle because they rush you in and out and despite having an appointment, you end up waiting in line. I kept having reservations when they said my eyes were too dry and they weren't getting good pictures, but they kept telling me it would be fine and I felt like I had to go through with it since I was already there. Yes, my eyes are better than what I had before, but I will still need a contact or glasses for my right eye. I was totally happy with wearing contacts and glasses before, but this was supposed to eliminate that. Now I paid thousands of dollars to still have to have my vision corrected. I went back for a second follow up and they told me it would get better in months, even though they told me I'd be able to see immediately after surgery. I asked to check the Rx my normal doctor has for me compared to what they had, and the first thing we checked was sphere, which didn't match. At this point the doctor started telling me that it's fine that they had the wrong Rx for me and they use different numbers, which really just doesn't make sense to me. And then she wouldn't let me compare anything else on the chart. Overall, it was a terrible experience. Save yourself the aggravation and go somewhere else that costs a little more but you're actually treated like a human. read more

My husband and I know a dozen people between the two of us that have recently completed Lasik. We scheduled a consultation and did it combined as it was just easier to get all the information together due to the individual appointments being about 3 hours a piece (inclusive of all of the tests/exams and conversations). We had decided on making the appointment sooner than later so we made it right then and there and did so together. The staff was professional, we did have to wait a teensy but across all of our appointments but it wasn't awful. The day of was a bit nerve wracking but the doctor put us at ease as he described to a T exactly what to expect - and although out of a Sci-Fi movie, it all happened exactly how he described. The post op was a bit different for both of us as my husband had the LASIK while I had to have PRK (my cornea isn't as thick). The expectations of recovery were spot on, the coupons and drop recommendations were great. The only sucky parts of everything was that we both had to revisit our initial appointments prior to surgery as the people who booked our appointments failed to tell us to refrain use of contacts for a week before our appointments. Also, its near impossible to call the office and you end up getting routed to their call center (nationwide organization) and they then send a message to the local office. I went last Thursday for my Lasik surgery! Finally, after covid! I got there and didn't have to wait long. Before they were calling me to come into the building. Upon going inside they took my temperature and made sure to offer me hand sanitizer. I was taken back, had one last scan done of my eyes and I was good to go! I was given a scrub cap and booties and my eye lids and surrounding skin were cleaned w/ a betadine solution. I was taken into where the contoura laser was and was asked to sit on the table. Once they checked my two patient identifiers and they "timed out" I was asked to lie down and the doctor instilled the numbing eye drops, he waited a couple minutes and it was time! Dr Varr and the assistants were awesome! Everything was explained as it went along. First, my right eye was done! He put the forceps in to hold my lid open and placed a white device (the laser that creates the corneal flap) on my eye! I felt pressure from it being held but that was it! The flap was made then it was time for the contoura laser to work its magic! After the right eye the above was repeated for the left. I got up and could alreAdy see a difference! I was taken back to a room eye shields were put over my eyes and I was given sunglasses (that really didn't look too bad)!discharge Instructions were reviewed and off I went!it is now Monday (I had the surgery on Thursday) and I can see 20/20 already, Something I hadn't been able to do since I was 9 (I am 57) There is no real discomfort , I put in medicated eye drops every six hours and the preservative free eye drops every hour! It's really awesome not having to wear contacts or eyeglasses for distance anymore! Again the team that took care of me made me feel valued. I had LASIK surgery in 2017. I was extremely pleased with the whole process. However, within 3 years my vision started to decline. I went for a consultation and was told I could have the surgery redone. They gave me a small dose of valium the first time to calm my nerves. They said they would do so the second time. I don't love the feeling these drugs gave me , but it did relax me. You are laying on a table with your eyes being held open with plastic guards. Believe me, it is anxiety provoking. I scheduled my second surgery and reported to the office expecting the same procedure/process as before. They told me they could not give me the 5mg of valium because of the opiod crisis in Providence. I wasn't sure how that pertained to a 55 year old elementary school teacher getting LASIK, but okay. Dr Varr started the procedure but could not make the necessary cut to continue with LASIK. I was told my options were to go through the recovery process with this one eye or have PRK. My nerves got the best of me. I felt nauseous and could not stand up. Even though I agreed to the PRK I had to lay down for a bit because I thought I would pass out. Dr Varr was very annoyed and did a horrible job of hiding it. I assume I screwed up his schedule. There were quite a few people having a procedure on this day. I was okay within 10 minutes. The PRK procedure was not as quick or smooth as the LASIK. I felt like he was sanding the outer coating of my eyes. Within an hour I was in agony. I felt like someone was actively rubbing glass into my eyes. I had no prescription for pain. The drops I left with did not touch it. Nothing helped for hours. My son and husband kept calling the office but was told everyone was busy and that they would return my call. No one did. I went to my post-op appointments, but never spoke to or saw Dr Varr again. The tech people and the office doctor had no thoughts or opinions on my treatment. To this day my eyes have never been the same. My vision did not improve. My eyes are constantly dry and scratchy. I wake up feeling like I have sand in my eyes. They are so sensitive that even when I put eyeshadow on I feel like I am rubbing something the wrong way. I recommend that anyone interested in this procedure see several doctors before making a decision as to who will perform the operation. The LASIK Institute is a production line establishment. They do not cater to anyone that does not fit into the "in and out without issues" model. It may be time Dr Varr hang up his bowtie. read more

Let me warn you: This is going to be lengthy but PLEASE READ. I cannot grasp how this establishment has as many good reviews on google (300+) as it does. Here is my honest experience with the Lasik Vision Institute: When I arrived for my consultation I was brought in the back for some eye exams. The woman (who I will say was very kind) instructed me to place my forehead and chin on the piece of equipment. Before I set my chin down I noticed the whole thing was covered in makeup from a prior client. When she also noticed how dirty it was she said something to the effect of "oh let me clean that for you, sorry we just have so many people in and out of here". The exams were performed and then I was told by another tech that due to the thinness of my corneas that PRK would be the best option for me and not Lasik. All the information I was given to take home about the surgery including post op care was for PRK. I never met with the doctor who would actually be performing the surgery. Though everyone was very kind to me, it all felt a bit gimmicky and I felt a bit weary but set up the appointment for surgery anyways, telling myself that it was just nerves and that a place with this many glowing reviews couldn't be bad. After my consultation I got a call saying that the doctor decided that I was eligible for lasik and he would be doing that instead of PRK. As I stated earlier- all the information I was given to read up on was for PRK, but I figured that the day of the operation the surgeon would go over everything Lasik with me and provide me with all the information I needed. When I arrived surgery day there were quite a few other patients there and it all seemed a little chaotic and unorganized. As I was being brought into the back I was told "I don't want to startle you so I want to let you know there are a few others back there already right now." I was brought into a very small room right outside the operating room with a row of chairs and was greeted by 3 other patients in scrubs waiting to have their procedure done. The surgeon Dr. Varr came in the room and coldly gave us all a brief description of the procedure asked "any questions?" And then said "Okay .... You're up first." And headed into the room. Myself and the three people next to me were all in agreement he did not ease any of our anxieties and actually made us feel worse about the procedure. It was clear we were not being looked at like PATIENTS who were putting our SIGHT IN HIS HANDS. I felt as though we were being treated like cattle and that the most important thing here was to fit in as many people as possible at once to make the most money they can in a day. It was like a drive-thru window for lasik. The whole experience put a pit in my stomach and made me feel like this is the type of place you hear horror stories about. I took off my scrubs and told the staff I had forgotten to take my anti anxiety medication and had to go get it in my car. I left immediately. I did more research and decided to call Koch in chapel view. From the moment I walked in there it was a completely different experience. They were professional and made me feel very comfortable. I MET WITH MY SURGEON THE DAY OF MY CONSULTATION who answered all my questions. After meeting with my surgeon and going over pre and post op care with a specialist I told her how I went somewhere prior and left the day of my surgery. She then said "oh, so you must already have these drops we're going to call in for you" I said no I didn't have any drops, I left everything they were giving me for post-op there. She looked at me stunned and said "These are eyedrops you take BEFORE your surgery. They didn't prescribe you any antibiotic drops?!" I told her no and she said in disbelief how she was at a loss for words. The bottom line is I was right to trust my gut. This place could have put my eyes and in SERIOUS JEOPARDY as I found out it's extremely important to prep the eyes with antibiotics pre-surgery. PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH. My experience with LVI was impeccable!!! I was completely freaked out going in because of well...eye surgery!! EVERY SINGLE staff member was so patient, kind, reassuring and knowledgeable! Dr. Varr again explained each step prior and during the procedure. He has a very calming voice which helped reduce my anxiety. I'm a BIG baby and I have to say the procedure was so easy, painless and super fast! In fact, the procedure itself was oddly satisfying! On the way home, my eyes watered with a slight/minimal burning sensation...then it felt like I had cloudy, dry contacts in my eyes. I took Tylenol PM and fell asleep for 3 hours. This place has frustrated me so much! First they told me that I could get PRK with a 90% correction, but it would have to be in Boston. I missed work to drive to Boston that Friday, only to find out that the surgeon wouldn't let me get the surgery because my cornea was too thin. When I asked why I had to drive to Boston for them to figure this out, they said that the surgeon didn't look at the paperwork until that Friday. I gave them one more shot, had my contacts out for two weeks and tested again in Providence. Good news, they said! I could get PRK with 98% correction this time. I was so psyched to have my new eyes in about a month, even planning the days in which I would take off work and rest. They called me a couple days later saying that the surgeon in Boston couldn't perform the surgery. I told them that the Providence office said they could do it. They checked with a surgeon in Providence and apparently, I could have gotten surgery in Providence the entire time. Excited for a THIRD time about the surgery, they called a couple days later and the Providence surgeon said that the correction would be about 50%. I'm sorry, but this is so unprofessional to have so much miscommunication. I spent $20 on eye drops and $30 on pharmaceuticals preparing me for the surgery and they told me that I could do it THREE TIMES. The only reason they're getting more than one star is because they staff is very friendly and open to questions. Otherwise, this place really needs to get its act together. I just finished my Lasik yesterday and next day I already have 20/20 vision. They have a great Groupon deal. I was a bit iffy at first about using a Groupon on my precious eyes. BUT two of my colleagues had already done the Lasik with other sister locations but same chain (Lasik vision institute). Plus I was quoted $5K at a different Lasik center (Nielsen eye center) and that included lifetime warranty and it was required that i had to have annual exams with Nielsen eye center. Keep in mind that if you have an exam with the Lasik center your insurance may deny it and consider it cosmetic so it benefits the Lasik center cause they get to pocket more money. If the annual exam was not covered it would cost me $99. Nielsen Eye Center was way too expensive and they were strict. SO That is why I chose Lasik Vision Institute center instead, it's much more reasonable depending on type of Lasik machine is used. The cost came out at $3.4k includes lifetime warranty. Lasik vision institute does require annual exam, BUT you can go anywhere, such as your regular eye doctor. Which means it's guaranteed your eye exam will be covered under your insurance if you to to your regular eye doctor for exams. You just have to make sure your eye doctor sends the info to Lasik vision institute in a timely matter. The staff were very friendly and answered any questions. The reason for knocking off one star is there wait time was long. If you make an appointment, expect 30+ min delays before they see you. I knew this going in from reviews of other sister locations, so I wasn't that upset/surprised. I guess you get what you pay for, however I think it's worth waiting extra half hour to save over $1k cost at other Lasik centers. Lol one last piece of advice for women. YOU CANT WEAR MAKEUP for about two weeks after the procedure. So plan accordingly, make sure you have no special events coming up. Lol oh and if you have eye lash extensions I would recommend removing before surgery to avoid infecting your eye with bacteria that could be collecting in those lashes. Cause you can't really wash/rinse anywhere near your eyes for a week or two as well. read more

The Providence Lasik Vision Institute location has a very caring, knowledgeable, comforting staff. From my consultation to the surgery and the follow ups, everyone was amazing. I went for my free consultation and was excited to learn I was a candidate for Lasik. Jeanne was so nice and down to earth. She was very informative and put me at ease. I had my LASIK procedure done last Thursday (7/30/15). I can not say enough about the staff at the Providence location. Everyone of them made me feel like I was the only patient there. I only visited the office 2 times prior to my surgery and in addition to being excited for my surgery, I was excited to see each one of them. Even the surgeon himself (Dr. Stetson) had a phenomenal personality and took time to talk with me as well. Initially my surgery was scheduled for Wednesday but due to some technical issues the procedure was postponed. Even with this delay, at a point where I was one patient away from the procedure and then told it was not going to happen, I still feel they were all fantastic. They went out of their way to make sure the several patients, including myself, that were sent home still in glasses were rescheduled to other offices within a day or so. I can not say enough about the environment they created in this office. Ultimately, my actual procedure was performed in the Farmington Ct. office. This facility successfully completed the procedure and I now have 20/20 vision, and while they were nice, the time the Providence office staff spent and the way they interacted with me as a patient made this an experience I felt obligated to share. I look to Yelp for the bad stuff as this seems to be the location people go to complain. I you are considering Lasik and can get to the Providence location... all I can say is DO IT. As for the procedure, I am now describing it to my friends as a cakewalk. So simple, I could see the minute I sat up from the table and the recovery is just remembering to put some drops in your eyes. There are a lot right now and I have set an alarm on my phone to remind me each hour to do them. The reason is my eyes feel normal and if the alarm didn't ring I would forget. I woke the morning after the procedure and went about my day as normal. I will admit by the end of that first day my eyes were a little tired but that was it. No pain. The only thing that hurts is pealing the tape on the shields off your face in the morning ...you have to put them over your eyes at night the first week. I had my surgery about six months ago and I was also told I could not have traditional lasik but had to have PRK. I felt my recovery was a little longer than I was told to expect, however I understand everyone is different and it was well worth the wait! I couldn't be happier! Why oh why didn't I go to LASIK twenty years ago? The gang there makes you feel right at home the second you make the connection.

I went to get LASIK with a groupon. Once I was evaluated I was told I could not have LASIK and needed to go with PRK. I could not get a refund on the groupon. I was told I would get my distance back and I would just loose a bit of my up close. Which I was already loosing. So I decided to go for it. I was told my recovery would be about a week. Needless to say it took me a month to get most of my vision back. I was considered legally blind to drive at night. My distance vision is slowly coming back. But I have loss up two 3 feet in my up close vision. I have traded in my contact for reading glasses that I have to carry with me at all times. Not worth it. I would NEVER have done it if I knew this would be the results. read more

Ok, I will start by saying that 5 stars is absolutely not enough! I had the PRK surgery last February and I 150% chose the best place to go! The whole entire staff is phenomenal and so helpful and accommodating. Jeannie Bucci was with me every single step of the way and make me feel so at ease about the entire process. Every step was not only communicated to me clearly but also written down and explained again the day of surgery. It was such a relief bc there was absolutely nothing that I had to worry about. I was so nervous about the actual procedure but once I got there my worries faded quickly. They make you comfortable, explain exactly what is going to happen and we had some good laughs. The procedure honestly took about 10 minutes total and I did not feel a single thing at all. I actually got about 6 other people to go here after my surgery bc I was so beyond happy with everything! I know they are also just as pleased with their experience! My mom will be going tomorrow and so far she is happy with her experience of dealing with this business. I really wanted to review LVI because I felt like there was not enough recent reviews for the providence RI office. I want to start by saying the staff was very pleasant. They were always smiling, prompt and never made me feel as i was bothering them by asking questions. They were also very accommodating with scheduling as on a couple occasions I was running late for my appointment and I called and they fit me righ in. I didn't get to meet the doctor until the day of the procedure but i did do my due diligence by researching him . The procedure was less then 15 mins long and I didn't feel any discomfort at all. They do give you a valium to help relax you and they numb your eyes for the procedure but you are awake. You will need to be at the office for about 1 to 2 hour because sometimes they have other patience ahead of you in the waiting area to be operated. You also get a post eye exam. The lady doctor that does your follow ups and post exam is extremely nice and patient with all your questions and concerns. I am already at 20/15 which is better then 20/20.The price varies depending on your eyes conditions but the price was much cheaper then another place I had already consulted with. So far my only discomfort is dryness of the eyes which is expected for the fisrt few months but they give you artificial tear drops and medicated drops. Over all so far I had a phenominal experience at LVI. read more
