Day before appt I receive a voice mail from Maria who says "I had you on my book tomorrow at three. I had to switch a client of mine to that spot and I'm wondering if you could come in Wednesday.." What am? Mashed potatoes? No, I pay money for services: i.e. a client. No, Maria, I can't come in Wednesday and I won't. I've already switched appointments to make room for our scheduled time, You switched someone into my appointment because - what - my highlights weren't going to bring in enough money? If you cancelled because of almost any other reason (family, illness, etc) it would be acceptable but to switch to another client just because? This would have been my second time at this salon. I hope that for its future clients they learn the definition of appointment and also client. If customer service gets worse than this, I don't want to know about it.

They were incredibly personable and made sure to check in with me throughout every step of the haircut process. They both delivered amazing results. Jennifer gave me a super edgy look and Shawna later gave me the blunt cut of my dreams, hence why I had kept returning. Now, there's A. I first went to her when my edgy look had grown out and wanted to get it refreshed. Everything was going pretty well, until the point where she accidentally used the wrong scissors and chopped off a section of my bangs. It was hard to recover from that but accidents happen and she expressed deep remorse and tried her best to fix it. It wasn't the best, haha, but it eventually grew out after several months, and I didn't want this experience to deter me from returning to my fave salon. :) Then, I went to A for a chocolatey brown balayage. We had a consultation beforehand. My hair is virgin and very dark so what I was looking for was a very subtle change to add dimensionality to my hair since I had just gotten a blunt cut by Shawna. But... what I got was not what I asked for. I have gotten balayages before and one key component is teasing the hair before applying bleach. Yes, it was being teased, but by the tiniest amount. This led to pretty much my hair being bleached solidly rather with the quintessential natural blending of the highlights which define a balayage. On top of that, the bleach application was all over the place. In some sections, it was applied so close to my roots. In others it was 3 inches away. And A decided to give me money pieces because she thought they would look cute. When I noticed the heavy bleaching, and pointed it out, she mentioned that it would become darker with the toner. I was anxious, but I wanted to trust the process. When the hair was finally done, I was devastated. It was patchy, brassy, and bleached in such a way that doesn't even come close to the definition of a balayage. I told A that I would need some time to get used to it. After several days of staring at my hair in the mirror, I reached out to A. She agreed that it wasn't at all like the inspo pics and she was willing to redo it for me. At that point, though, I was too anxious to go through another round with PH, especially after my previous experience. So, I made the decision to reach out to a hairstylist in Santa Cruz that is known for his balayages and I sent the pictures of my hair and he immediately took me in (thankfully!!) bc the hair had truly destroyed my self-esteem. After the botched hair, I literally canceled all my plans for the next week because I didn't want anyone to see me like that. He called it a hair emergency, haha. Well, that appointment went wonderfully, and he was able to color-correct the hair and achieve the results I wanted from the start. One major pro about A is that she does a great job at maintaining the health of the hair during her work. It was actually really cool and impressive to see that when she was taking off the foils after the bleaching process, little to no hair came off with it. Even though she brought my natural hair color from one of the darkest shades to such a light color. That is definitely one of her incredible strengths!! I let A know I went with another stylist and canceled my redo appointment. I also asked for a refund, considering the results were so far from what we discussed. She was completely respectful and remorseful and mentioned that she wished she had an opportunity to fix it herself. She reached out to her manager to ask about the refund, and the request was denied bc I went to another stylist and didn't let her redo it. I am not sure if that's a common policy, but I felt saddened that accountability by the salon wasn't taken in that regard. You wouldn't hire the same plumber again if their work caused your pipes to burst in the first place. Twice. Honestly, I am deeply saddened by this and it pains me to even write this review because all of my other experiences at PH have been SO positive before this. I don't think I will be visiting again, unfortunately. That being said, A is an amazing person (her hair is also SO cute!!! which already is a testament to her skills; also, she does a great job at matching the vibe, and I /STRONGLY/ believe that these were rare occurrences, especially considering all of her previous positive reviews. You can check out her work on her instagram page. Lots of people have had amazing results from her, especially with haircuts. So please don't let that deter you from hiring her. But maybe not for balayages, LOL.

I came in October and they were definitely feeling the spooky Halloween vibes. They have a restroom available for use and an arcade machine to burn some time on if you are waiting for your turn. I made an appointment (and they do 30 minute blocks) but was able to walk in early when they opened. Men's haircut is $25 which is a very reasonable price. I worked with Yareli who was very sweet and even offered some life tips while getting my cut done. She was intentional in asking to make sure what I wanted was happening, and that I liked the end product. In about 20 minutes, I was done and dusted with a new fresh cut. You can pay with your digital wallet, card, or cash. Don't forget to ask for a stamp card - your 5th visit will be $5 off! Small parking lot out in front so easy to drop in and get the business done.

I visited The Last Resort as my last resort for my elopement wedding in September 2021, and I must say that I am beyond impressed with the quality of their services. As a South Asian bride, I was initially worried about finding a salon that understood my unique hair and makeup needs, but this salon exceeded all my expectations. The owner Valerie was able to schedule a hair & makeup trial a week before our wedding too. The staff was extremely welcoming and attentive from the moment I walked in. They took the time to understand my preferences and listened to all my concerns, making me feel confident that I was in good hands. Valerie, the hair stylist and makeup artist Judy, were both highly skilled and knowledgeable about working with South Asian skin tones, and they worked together seamlessly to create a stunning bridal look that made me feel like a queen on my big day. The hair and makeup stayed put in the breezy Big Sur weather even during the drop top Camaro that my husband drove throughout the day. Not only did they do an exceptional job with my hair and makeup, but they also went above and beyond to ensure that everything was perfect. The team provided me with valuable tips and advice on how to maintain my look throughout the day, and they even helped me adjust my veil and jewelry to ensure that everything was in place. Valerie was like my mother making sure I was comfortable, happy and full of joy on my wedding day! Overall, I can't recommend this hair salon enough to any South Asian bride looking for a talented and dedicated team of professionals to make her look and feel her best on her wedding day. Valerie has been cutting my hair for nearly 6 years now and she is undoubtedly the best person ever to cut and style my hair. She really listens to what I want and is very careful. She's really pleasant to talk to, her salon is clean and airy and everyone there has always been friendly and cheerful. She also hasn't changed her rates ever since I began seeing her- they're very reasonable, for the attention and high quality service I get. Interestingly, even though I normally wear my hair short, Val's haircuts always manage to look good even when they are growing out! I've always felt that that is the mark of a really good stylist - she gets to know your hair (texture, how it moves, what styling products work best or in my case, what style will work even without using any products or blow drying!) and recommends options that will fit your lifestyle, your hair and your fashion sense. The other thing I like about Val is that she is very health conscious. I've never smelled any noxious styling or coloring chemicals in her salon. And she doesn't try to sell me a bunch of styling products that I don't need. Other salons I've been to have always doused my hair with styling products and then tried to sell them all to me. Val has never done that to me, although she has thoughtful recommendations if I ask. If you want a haircut that you'll love and a relaxing place to be for an hour or so, this is the place to be. read more

We went to The Last Resort to get our hair done, and I don't know where to begin with how great Val and her staff was. First of all, she opened for us on a Sunday and didn't charge us an extra fee to do so. Second, she let us chill out upstairs, doing make-up and getting dressed. She helped with my nieces hair at the last minute, without charging us, and she was so relaxed and cool. The woman she brought in to help was also amazing, and, between the two of them, they did really beautiful beautiful jobs on our hair. Not to mention, we were two brides, since it was a lesbian wedding, and Val was super super cool about that. My hair was in a finger wave, and it made the entire look. My wife had a beautiful french twist, which Val put a new spin on by adding these cool feathery edges to (to match the feathers in my hair). We got SO many compliments that day. Thanks, Val for making us look so beautiful and feel so relaxed before such an important day! PS did I mention that when I was stressing about getting my dress dirty by touching it, Val just insisted that I take her hand sanitizer with me to the photos. insisted. Valerie saved my day! She was really there for me, as a helping and loving person - something that is priceless and so rare. Oh.. and she did miracle work on my hair, too! From the first moment i walked into her salon, i was happy that i had chosen her to be my hairdresser for my wedding. She not only created the hairstyle that i described to her and made me look beautiful on my wedding day, she also made me feel more relaxed by calming my fragile nerves. When i told her that Alexis, the party rental company, that we hired only brought half of the dishes, she picked up her phone and called them! I had not been able to reach them before.. I was immediately relieved. Then i realized that i had forgotten my wallet at home and she was not terrified - in contrary to me. There are two locations. I was attempting to let people know about a fabulously talented stylist named Gwendolyn at The Last Resort on East Cliff Drive , near the beach and Harbor area. She took me in very quickly and really did a fantastic job of shaping, (and reducing the amount of gray...without looking obvious). I felt like a" half million dollars". While I was there, she was finishing up on a woman's styling cut and color with high and low lites, (I think that is what they called it!), and she was so happy with how Gwen had made her look that she began to cry with such happiness! (She was gorgeous!) The Salon is very comfortable and classy. Gwen and her associate really make you feel great! I want to commend Teri Willer who works at The Last Resort as the BEST hair dresser i have ever been to. I have been going to Teri for over 30 years and I follow her where ever she goes. Teri colors my hair with low lights and high lights that look so natural, that no one knows that I color my hair. She cuts only what I want, she listens to any request i have and i believe the 2 star person had a bad day, because Teri is a fantastic person and i enjoy going to see her every time. My twin daughters have been going also ever since they were 16 and now they live in Santa Barbara and will only see Teri and she accommodates them with their visits when they come home, they are now 26. What a great experience. I liked Valerie from the very first phone call. My appointment was for wedding hair and makeup. In my pre wedding scramble I got the rehearsal appt. wrong. After a phone call from her she was kind enough to still see me even being late. When I arrived they were welcoming and very nice. Brenna did my makeup and lashes. On my wedding day Valerie and Brenna gave me the best start. Not only did they both do an amazing job but it was fun. Being lifetime Santa Cruz residents we realized we knew some of the same people. This is somewhat confusing...I want to tell everyone how happy I am to see Gwendolyn Beauregard back at her former location now renamed "The Last Resort Salon" under the ownership of Val...This is not the one in Soquel, but near the beach at East Cliff and 13th avenue. I truly can't wait to be pampered by Gwendolyn's professional styling, coloring, and one on one attention, so I book more frequently now...I would have posted all 5 stars, and I will as soon as the "OWNER" enforces the "No Smoking" rules of the establishment. This salon is amazing and welcoming! My great friend and stylist Teresa touched up my roots and gave me a wonderful stylish hair cut. I loved all the ladies and they all were happy and talkative! I went to Georgina at Last Resort and she was AWESOME! I am one of those dreaded people that brings in a photo of some gorgeous celebrity with fabulous hair and says "MAke me look like this". Gina didnt skip a beat. She did my hair beautifully and I coulnd't be happier. She also was ready and waiting for me when I got there, and she did not have herself over scheduled so I never felt ignored. My only suggestion is for the Salon owners to perhaps have coffee/tea in the salon for the customers, and staff! It would make the experience of having your hair done much better. read more

I've been Sasha's regular client for Brazilian waxing for over a year, and never had a bad experience. She is very gentle and fast which is a perfect match for me, since I can't afford to spend more than 20 minutes on the esthetician table due to an extremely busy schedule. She is an outstanding professional plus the conversation with her is always nice. I have been going to Heather Smith for all my waxing needs for the last few years and I cannot say enough good things about her. She rocks! She always makes my brows look amazing and does a great job with brazillians as well. She really knows what she's doing and creates a relaxed but professional atmosphere. Val is a very good friend of mine, but even if she weren't I'd still go to her at The Last Resort because she is a phenomenal stylist and colorist. She never rushes and sincerely wants to please each and every client. Her ego never gets in the way of making sure you are satisfied whether it's your hair, face, or body she is working her "magic" on. She truly is an extraordinary professional! Val and Brenna are an amazing team, professional and fun! This team traveled to my hotel to help me get ready for my wedding and were able to complete my hair and make-up, my mom's, and new mother in law's in no time at all! This is a wonderful find!! I asked Valerie to help with a bad hair cut and color I had previously and she transformed my hair. It has been so soft and wonderfully shaped. I love the highlights. The Last Resort is a wonderfully intimate saloon and you do not feel the drama of other saloons. And it is also unlike other saloons because it is very reasonable priced. Heather is a very talented esthetcian. I explained that I didn't want to look "made up" but wanted a natural look with a little zing. EVERYONE at the wedding told me how good I looked and I felt beautiful. Goyo did the same with my hair. I wanted a blow dry with some curl, lift and pizzaz! My hair looked great--especially on the dance floor--it moved and kept its body as we danced the night away. Being from out of town, I was desperate to find someone reputable to do my hair and makeup and I can say hands down THEY ARE THE BEST!

Thankfully, Emily had a last minute cancellation and was able to help me. She did a wonderful job fixing my color as best as she could. She carefully added highlights and took her time to explain my choices. From the moment I arrived at Faust, I could tell it was very welcoming and cohesive. The other stylists were very sweet as well and every haircut I saw that was given during my emergency session was lovely. Anna checked in throughout the process as well and it's clear she's passionate about all aspects of the hair industry. I am very grateful to have had this experience. Thank you Anna and Emily!

One of the biggest things that bothered me was leaving the salon with hair color still on my skin. To me, that says a lot about the level of care being put into the service. It comes across as sloppy, rushed, and like you aren't taking the time to be careful with your client. When I'm paying this much money for a professional service, I expect the stylist to take her time and make sure I don't walk out of the salon with dye left on my face and skin. That was a huge disappointment for me. What made it even more disappointing was looking at pictures of other clients and not seeing them leave with color on their skin. It made me wonder why that same level of care wasn't taken with me. If you aren't being careful enough to remove the color from my skin before I leave, it makes me question how much care and attention is being given to my hair as well. I also expected more highlights and dimension. My hair came out much darker than I expected, and when I looked at it afterward, it just didn't have the pizzazz I was hoping for. I felt like what I wanted wasn't completely heard. I understand that a stylist has professional opinions about what is best for my hair, but ultimately I am the client, and I want to feel included and listened to. Trust is extremely important to me when choosing a hairstylist. When I find someone who listens to me, takes care of my hair, and makes me love the result, I am extremely loyal and will continue going back regardless of the cost. I was hoping Abby could be that stylist for me, but unfortunately this experience did not give me that confidence. The haircut itself was okay, but overall I was very disappointed. For me, it's not just about the final color. It's about the care and attention you receive when you're spending your hard-earned money. Unfortunately, I didn't feel I received that level of care. Based on my overall experience, I would not return to Abby and I would not recommend her.

I have standing appointments with Jazelle for hair, Destiny for facials, and Debra for massage. Jazelle is a master of her craft. Not only is she a great listener and confident stylist with copious years of experience, she leaves me feeling more beautiful and relaxed every time I see her. Since I have started seeing her my hair has been the longest, strongest, and healthiest it's ever been. While keeping my blonde super bright and blended. Jazelle did the hair for my wedding day and my hair looked gorgeous and stayed styled and curled all day from 10am-10pm with tons of dancing! I'm so happy I trusted her with my special day. Recently I asked her to help me have a little fun with my color and she suggested that I try pink. I've always wanted to do something like that but was worried it might ruin my hair. Jazelle did the pink more subtle at first so I could 'try it out' and I loved it so much I went for it the next appointment! I've never gotten so many compliments on my hair! Jazelle also uses the highest quality product and cares a lot about not using toxic substances on peoples hair. I've completely switched to only using Jazelles recommended products and my hair is so soft and smells so good! Not to mention Jazelle puts sparkly tinsel in my hair every time (I always ask) and I am obsessed! Especially because it's lasts so long (at least 3+ weeks)! I will never trust anyone else with my hair thank you so much Jazelle!! Destiny is the skin queen! I recommend all my clients to her because they notice how healthy my skin looks. Since I've been seeing Destiny consistently for her glow treatment facials my skin looks brighter, feels way less dry, and the little bit of forehead wrinkles I had have almost completely vanished. I can't stop singing her praises! Debra is the most intuitive body worker I have ever seen and works magic every time I am on her table. I am a nail technician and feel such a difference in my back, neck and hands after seeing Debra consistently. More people need to prioritize their self care and go see these lovely ladies! Everyone I have interacted with at The Loft Salon and Spa have been very welcoming, warm, professional and kind. Please don't miss out on this wonderful place!

If my hair needs a little extra love, she'll add a deep conditioning treatment that leaves it feeling amazing. Michelle also gives great product recommendations so I can actually maintain that fresh-from-the-salon look at home (even though let's be honest, I'll never blow dry as well as she does!). I really appreciate how she helps me plan for my long-term hair goals instead of just focusing on one appointment. If you're looking for someone who genuinely cares about your hair and takes the time to get it right every time, Michelle's your person.
