She had been raving about the food and knew I was missing out. We got there on a Saturday afternoon just after the lunch rush. We were able to get seated almost immediately. It has a quant atmosphere of a distressed store/office. The waitress we had was attentive and quick to take drink orders. She was also very thorough going over the menu and specials. Speaking of the specials, that's what I sounded good to me. It was difficult to choose, but I went with the Meatloaf and mashed potatoes. I can't say a lot about the presentation... but honestly I don't care what it looks like because I'm going to eat it. It was real mashed potatoes, with two thick slices of a delicious meatloaf. It was absolutely delicious. My girlfriend had the Black & Bleu salad. She was very please with it. For desert we got the deep fried Oreo Cookies. Okay, yes they are a carbilicious, deep fried sugar bomb... but they where so very good. The nice thing is that they are just the right size to satisfy the sweet tooth, but not so much as to make you regret it... too much. If you're in the Freeport area and looking for a nice meal in a casual setting. This is it...

Checked out this brewery in Freeport after coming across other places that had their beers…read more Generations is one of the main reasons to come here. It certainly has quite a few things on tap. A lot more in cans. They also have a few snacks. By the looks of the outside it wasn't anything special, just like a warehouse or something common. It's a lot more interesting inside. The taproom has enough room for the bar, and quite a few tables. Got a view into the back to see where the beers are made. There's a balcony where bands can play live music too. Beers are why people come of course. It's about $7 a pint. Best one we had of these was the Tawny Ale. This is an Irish Red of medium strength. It's about $12 for a soft pretzel. These are massive so they're great for sharing. One of the dips looked like peanut butter. This was actually fudge if you can believe it, and you can get cheese as well as mustard. For sure it's one of this city's main attractions. It's got lots of beers, and because it's in the Pretzel City, get one of those to munch on. They're closed Mondays and Tuesdays.

They have a variety of beers and one named after Freeport the Pretzel City! They have lagers, pilsners and ales. The environment is relaxing and the building stands out ! Since the main road is under construction , GPS did not help, but after we realized it kept rerouting us to the closed road. If in the area, stop in. Also their beer can be found in many locations in the Rockford area and some Binnys.

Stopped in for lunch on our way to Iowa. Landmark is your basic "small town" diner with booths,…read morecounter and a few tables. Friendly employees - look to have lots of regulars. Rick ordered the fried chicken - which understandably takes extra time as it's cooked when you order - not sitting under a heat lamp getting soggy. The chicken was a little dry and the breading was bland. Meal was accompanied with canned green beans, mashed potatoes that may or may not have been instant, and gravy that was packaged. I had the mushroom Swiss burger. I really should remember to ask about the mushrooms before I order one. These mushrooms were canned- which can be fine if they are sautéed or warmed in a mushroom sauce. These 'shrooms were not. And - while I should have expected it - the "Swiss" cheese was a slice of Kraft processed Swiss cheese. This from a place that is 23 miles from Monroe, Wisconsin - the Swiss Cheese capital of the world! Note to my friends who are OCD - do not sit in the first set of booths when you come in. These booths were all moved forward a few inches during a remodel - but the booth numbers on the wall and the lights above the table - which used to be centered - are now skewed to one side of the table. While Landmark was an acceptable lunch spot - we will not be adding it to our rotation of places to stop on our way to Iowa.

A pretty busy place with locals and people from other areas. There's about what's expected on the menu it seems. Before even coming in there's a smell of barbecue. It's got a pretty full menu. There's a bar in the middle surrounded by plenty of tables. Beers are the main thing of course. It's about $7 a pint. Best one we had of these was the Coldstream Lager. This is a full bodied Bavarian style. A lot of the food is meaty. Brisket and that kind of stuff. Among the appetizers is the Cowboy Caviar. One of the few vegetarian options. This is a mixture of beans, cilantro, corn, jalapeños, red onions, and tomatoes. It's about $16 for the Tex-Mex Bowl. This has avocado, cilantro rice, Cowboy Caviar, marinated cucumbers, pico de gallo, and Thai sauce. Of course an option is to get it with meats added. There's plenty more things including burgers and pork belly tacos among the livestock based foods. For around here it's one of the better places for big crowds. It's got beers and barbecue along with some healthier options. They're closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
