It's so sad that customer service can ruin a business. I initially reviewed this business earlier this year from a Yelp elite event and thought it was outstanding. Now, not so much. I scheduled a service with Melanie and she was excellent. I scheduled another service for the very next day with her again. The owner booked my appointment. Payment was required upon booking. And I also prepaid for additional services for later in the month and prepaid for those too. I was unable to make the appointment time. Called the owner and asked to reschedule. He said I couldn't reschedule because of the policy. He nor anyone else ever told me about their "unable to reschedule less than 48 hours" policy. That makes no sense when the service was already paid for. No money is lost. I would've even paid a fee but he refused to reschedule me. I was never made aware of the policy - not in the documents that were sent over for signature (release of liability waivers) and the owner never told me. So how is a first time client supposed to know? It's not even posted in by the check in/out area. So I cancelled my future appointments and requested a refund. I might just move in here, specifically the Herban Tea Bar. Soothing music, very cool (calm) space, and a whole menu of delicious teas and tea lattes, many of which are caffeine free and ALL are vegan. I got the One Love Roiboos rose strawberry mint latte and it's just indescribably satisfying with a perfect amount of sweet. I brought in my own travel mug to save on single use cups and the barista happily obliged :) Will be back often. read more

A girlfriend and I met up in Kansas City for a long-overdue catchup/moms' getaway, and we booked massages at The Laya Center as part of our itinerary. LaToyia couldn't have been more responsive to my website inquiry, and everyone we met when we arrived made us feel so at home. I had an absolutely delicious prenatal massage with Tiffany, and my friend proclaimed her regular massage "probably the best one I've ever had." The space is beautiful; I especially liked that the treatment rooms were open to the building's high ceiling, so they felt both spacious and completely private at the same time. They frequently offer community events, such as vegan dining from a local chef on First Fridays (go to this if you can, the food is really good). The spa services are reasonably priced, and the beautifully decorated spa rooms are very relaxing and comfortable, almost to the point where you don't want to leave. They offer typical and unconventional services, ranging from massages to cryotherapy and hyperbaric oxygen chambers to yoni steams; if you want to combine services, they offer packages and memberships. If you come across a product that was used during your session, they probably sell it in their store, which is full of clean, organic supplements and blends made in house. Lastly, the coffee and tea bar is honestly the icing on what is already a rich cake. Highly, highly recommend the 7 Kings Hot Chocolate, which is a perfect mix of rich, dense, and sweet in a drink. read more

I have been coming to this spa for a while now and have seen every massage therapist they offer, so I feel like I have a good grasp on the center. all of them are amazing, but I do have to rave about Simona for a second. I have been to many masseuses in my life and all over the country when I travel, but none of them have compared to Simona. She listens to your concerns with what you feel needs worked on and man oh man does she deliver! When I get a massage by her, she instantly works out all the issues I was having; leaving me feeling as if I dont sit criss-cross applesauce in my work chair everyday. This Arkansas girl is especially grateful for finding such a gift of respite. While staying at Mercy Children's with my son and having some pretty intense shoulder pain due to stress, I googled "spas near me," and The Laya Center came up as only 0.3 mile away. A 3 minute drive transported me from the stress associated with having a sick child into the most calming, welcoming place. The owners and staff were so friendly and knowledgeable with their recommendations for teas from their tea bar and items available for purchase such as books, herbal remedies, smudge sticks, additional services, and such. The decor and architecture is decidedly different from any spa I've ever been to--it's earthy, organic, and industrial all at once...absolutely stunning in every way--such a refreshing change from what most spas seem to be. Simona performed one of the most amazing massages I've ever had, and my painful shoulder feels so much better. I am 100% sure all of the therapists at The Laya are as talented and caring given the quality of the business. Sleeping in beds that my body is not used to for the past four nights...my body needed a little tending to. My husband booked me for a 2 hour deep tissue massage with Tiffany. When I walked in I was blown away! This place has been masterfully designed to with a mix of urban and natural decor that makes it feel incredibly inviting. The lobby not only hosts a tea bar, but also displays books, oils, stones, incense, etc to help you make wellness a lifestyle that can continue even after you leave. All the staff I encountered were welcoming and friendly. I was slightly taken aback by the fact that the massage rooms are open from above and partitioned off from the rest of the center by only curtains on one wall. I was still able to able to get comfortable, but on a few different occasions my relaxation was interrupted by the chatter of others, and three times a beeping shattered the sounds of the healing tones; the third time it sounded like a morning alarm clock was going off. Also, the massage was booked for deep tissue and that is not what I received; the knots in my shoulder and lower back still causing me a great amount of pain right now (the only reason I reduced my rating to 4 stars instead of 5). However, I still enjoyed the work that was done from a relaxation standpoint. As I stated, I am from out of town, so I most likely won't be visiting again due to distance, but if I lived locally I would probably search out another place to receive a deep tissue/therapeutic massage. I wish I would have had the time and money to try out some of their other services though. I imagine it would be an excellent place to slowly learn and experience wellness in different ways. read more

I've been three times now. I love this place. I've had two massages by Tiffany, and have left both times completely relaxed and feeling like my areas of concern were thoroughly addressed. I got hot stones this time, and it was SO soothing! Ive done the cryotherapy chamber and infrared sauna combo and plan to do so again. This place is a real treasure in so many ways. The holistic and spiritual approach to healing and wellness is unlike anything I've experienced and I'm so happy there is a business like this in the heart of Kansas City. The owner is a really awesome kind and welcoming person. So much positive energy radiates from them. The supplements I've tried have been wonderful for my inflammation and pain... I've really noticed a difference! I'm going to try their cryotherapy soon, and will update this post after I do! I also absolutely love that they have herbalism classes!! I haven't done it yet due to personal time constraints, but it's on my radar. I really enjoyed the massages there for the most part, but had one experience that was a little chaotic and so I did decide to find a different masseuse elsewhere who incorporates more deeply spiritual practices. Enjoyed my first experience with cryotherapy and a yoni steam. Wished I had been explained what to do with the yoni egg and the gift box I was given as part of the package. It didn't come with any instructions. The massage was ok, but as an avid spa goer, I am always looking for the next amazing experience. When it just average, I am disappointed. The Laya Center is second to none. This place is an all in one wellness center!!!! I was super intimidated but wanted to try the unique cryotherapy machine that's the only of its kind in KC!
