We enjoyed a leisurely late lunch at the Leaning Pear on a Friday afternoon. We asked for vegetarian options, and were told that in addition to the items marked vegetarian or vegan on the menu, some menu items could be customized by removing the animal protein. We ordered the Edith pizza made vegetarian, which was brussels sprouts, gorgonzola, mozzarella, and sorghum drizzle. It was quite good. We also ordered a fried avocado tostada with a side of succotash. This was slightly on the smaller side but tasted good. Finished off with a mason jar cheesecake, which was just right for two, and just sweet enough. Outdoor seating was excellent for distancing. Indoor seats also had ample ventilation through wide open french doors. Service was pleasant and friendly, and all staff were masked. Recommended. read more

Not only is the food great but it's the location that will make you say ahhhh. Set next to cypress creek, it's hill country ambience with a touch of a classic boutique cafe. Beautiful interior, sit near the fireplace in winter, with tons of windows to bring the outside feel inside. Always a great wait staff that makes you feel special and at home. Must try are the meatballs and any special of the day. We love our neighbors (RMR) and you'll always find something here to please you. Drinks are good and they have wines for any taste. Stopped into this cute restaurant on a Saturday evening w no reservations. We happened to be in the area and found this on Yelp w great looking food and it lived up to all the wonderful reviews. We arrived as a party of 3 for first available seating and waited about 5-8 mins. It has really nice vibes both inside and outside depending upon mood and service was great! We tried the classic Rueben, Uncle Art, and ginger carrot cake. I definitely wanted to try more but I knew I'd end up taking too much home w me. The menu looks small but honestly that's ok because the quality of the food by far made up for it. After a rainy day followed by a cold front that derailed our plans to play golf, my wife and I decided to go on a "lunch date" on a Thursday and headed out to Wimberley for lunch. We've had The Leaning Pear on our list of restaurants in the area to try out but haven't had the occasion to until today. Tucked at the end of a long paved road behind the Sugar Shack (interestingly enough, we learned the building Sugar Shack now occupies used to be where Leaning Pear was) off River Road, we passed it and had to circle back as we didn't see any signs along road. We parked on cobble stoned parking area off the paved road and walked towards the restaurant. We were "checked in" and waited about 10-15 minutes for an indoor table since it was a bit chilly outdoors and even the area they call Tree House would still seem a bit chilly for us. We scanned a QR code to check the menu out and were prepared with our orders when our server, Olivia, greeted us after we were seated. My wife and I both ordered a cup of the Havarti-Crab soup ($4.50) and shared an order of Bread and Butter ($2.50). For mains, she ordered the Pattoli pizza ($12.75) ...house-made Italian sausage, kale, and marinara baked in a wood-fired oven. I ordered the Corned Beef Reuben ($8.50) served with chips. The Havarti-Crab soup was good although both my wife and I thought could definitely be warmer/hotter than it was. The bread was soft and chewy...perfect for a hot soup. My wife liked her Pattoli pizza...good flavors, tasty crust...HOWEVER, the base wasn't charred or slightly crispy as to be expected from a wood-fired pizza. My Corned Beef Reuben was loaded with flavors...quite savory...HOWEVER, I only got half a sandwich and it came with small pieces of kettle cooked chips like the ones you find at the bottom of the bag of chips. I suppose it worked out better for me to get half a sandwich since the cup of soup was filling and I also ate some of my wife's pizza. All in all, a good place for lunch. Good ambiance and service. I have to admit the design of the building, and the level of service is very good. Word of wisdom, you may wish to come here on any other day other than Wimberley market days like we did. You can sit outside where there are many covered tables, but there are some wooden picnic tables further out that are not. We were going to eat here, but our table inside was deafeningly loud from all the Market Days tourists. The other thing that changed our mind dining here was the menu which was limited and very few things appealed to us. They don't even offer a burger. However, I would be remiss if I did not mention that they do have a Sunday brunch. Their craft beer list is also limited,but at least they had one IPA. The place is dog friendly, and they even have a field out back where they can do their business. I would return here again for the Sunday brunch because that buffet would have a lot more to offer. read more

Time for an update. The Leaning Pear has managed to thrive through the pandemic, likely because 1) they have an incredible menu, and 2) management and staff were flexible and able to adapt through the changes. They are offering takeout, which you can order online, receive a text, and pick up contactless, so you can enjoy their food where you feel safest. They have blocked off table to limit their capacity, and when we were there, the back doors were wide open to the patios, allowing for additional circulation. That gorgeous open back patio was the first place I wanted to go to celebrate a special occasion after an entire year of take out and dining at home, and we got to do that recently, post-vax. QR codes have taken the place of physical menus, so you don't have to wait to peruse the menu or wonder just exactly where it's been. (For the uninitiated, you just hover your cellphone camera over the QR code, and click on the link that pops up. It takes you to their menus.) Masks are required unless you're sitting at your table dining, and servers and staff are all wearing them too. Proper mask etiquette calls for diners to don their masks as a server approaches the table, to help them feel safe too. There's an outdoor bar and two tiers of patio dining, socially distanced, along with a screened in porch with ceiling fans, if you're wanting that Texas hybrid indoor-outdoor insect-free experience. The patio area overlooks a wet-weather creek, which was dry when we were there, but still lovely with all of the trees and natural landscape. But the food...which after all, is why we go. I'm convinced after a few visits over the years that anything we order here is going to be top-notch, but I'm partial to their fish and vegetarian dishes. The steelhead trout with roasted carrots and beet farro was outstanding, and the mixed baby greens Leaning Pear house salad with goat cheese, pecans, and shallot vinaigrette dressing is a perfect complement to any dish. Their pizzas are creative and delicious, and my husband tried the sausage and kale Pattoli; they offer a variety of vegetarian options as well. The weekend brunch menu is separate from the dinner menu, so be sure to check menus online before you go. They don't take reservations, and they can get really busy, so there is often a wait if you plan to dine there. We stopped by for a quick dinner and were pleasantly surprised by the simple beauty of this place! Started with an Aperol spritz and local blond ale, then shared the house salad and cedar pizza. Both were fresh and well prepared. Pizzas are cooked in a wood burning oven. If we weren't saving room for dessert, we would've each ordered our own pizza. Desserts are made in house and the ginger carrot cake and coconut gelato we enjoyed were spectacular. The cake was not overly sweet, settled in a lovely ginger carrot sauce, and topped with cream cheese frosting and pieces of candied ginger. The gelato had a delicious and smooth flavor/texture and ribbons of dark chocolate! We cannot forget our sweet server who was helpful with us as we perused the menu and told us that she didn't make the carrot cake (but used to).
