It was so sweet that I could literally not finish it. Two tries and it went in the trash. The lemon? Ditto. I have had "real" Italian ices in Queens. Unfortunately, The Little Sweet Shoppe in Middle Village is no longer in business. There Pat's chocolate ices were as dark cocoa. The lemon ice had tiny bits of pith. Not enough to make it bitter but added just a touch of natural lemon flavor. Lemon Ice King, as far as I'm concerned, is for those who are illiterate on the subject of Italian Ices. It's a tourist destination. It's a shameful example of a business cutting corners to make a product that can only satisfy those who do not know better. I am hoping to find another Italian Ice vendor who has the same supplier that The Little Sweet Shoppe did. In my quest thus far I have visited two stores. They have a large production space but operate as a walk-up stand; the menu of flavors is posted on the counter and you simply order your flavor and size. I was really impressed by the flavor selection. While they do not mix flavors, they probably had one of the largest variety I've seen at an establishment that sells ices. I decided to go with a small vanilla; cold, refreshing, and just enough. I probably could have gone a size up if I really wanted to, but for a nice little treat it was perfect. I can't speak highly enough about Benfaremo. The kids and adults to work here are so nice and courteous. I've been coming here for a long time but today I wanted to get 1/2 gallons of ices for my son's daycare since it's so hot today. The manager and kid working behind the counter packed all the ices for me and even helped me pack the containers and insulated it for me. They even offered to help me take it to my car. Wow! The ices are fantastic, but the service was exceptional. Lemon Ice King is such a staple in the neighborhood I have visiting this place as far as I can remember! Not much has changed here through the years aside from the prices which for the most are not really that bad , still no mixing which I find to be a bit annoying only because it would be great to be able to mix some of the flavors. Watermelon, mango, tangerine , rainbow .. I can go on & on Soo many great flavors, my most recent visit I got Fruit cocktail so good one of my go to flavors with over 30 flavors to choose from chances are your hardest decision here is picking a flavor. So glad to see them back & open during the quarantine places like this would be really upsetting if they didn't come back. Family has been coming here since they opened. I've been coming here my whole life. Ice was fine, but for the first time EVER we got rotten jelly apples! Both plain and coconut. Coconut was very sparse and different than usual (worse quality and yellowish and large shred; looked like chocolate shavings!) and the apples were rotten near the core and skin.They were also slightly mushy and jelly was already sliding off a bit. Typical of jelly apples that are old (in our experience). Jelly wasn't as thick as usual either (but that is ok I guess). These are the only jelly apples we ever eat and judge all others to them. No more! We had to throw all 8 apples in the trash. Shocked. Wonder if someone else in charge now. Inedible. Waste of $. read more

I wish I discovered this place sooner. It's an old school ice parlor. I had the orange vanilla and at first bite it brought me back 25 years in time (the 90s)!! There was flavor, fruit chunks, and memories in that bite. Great ices and flavors as always! Sadly, one point to note is that the nearby small park is not as nice to sit in as it used to be. Heads up if you're making plans and expecting to enjoy your ices there - you may want to consider elsewhere or just staying in front of the shop. There are larger sizes available if you want to buy and take some home. There are many flavors to choose from, so choose wisely. The line moved quickly even though I went on a weekend when it was nice out. It is a bit hard to find parking in the area. You walk up to the window, order, and there are no seats to sit at. There is a tiny nearby park, full of homeless people. For the small and medium sizes, your cup may fall apart as the ice melts because it is the holders that basically look like a large version of those paper ketchup cups. Fabulous. For years, I only got the lemon or the pineapple, but one day I tried the cherry and it actually had a lot of cherry pieces in it. It was fantastic. Places like this are the last of their breed in a world where poor quality chains have taken over everything. This is an independent shop that's been around since the 1950's, making quality product with care. I brought a co-worker who was raised in Detroit there and she said it was the best thing she ever tasted in her life. They have raised prices - it's now $3 for the smallest size, but the value goes up as you move to larger sizes. Note: some other places sell ices from Lemon Ice King, but it never tastes as good to me. The actual name of this place might be Benfaremo (named after the family that started it) but everyone knows it as The Lemon Ice King of Corona. It's been around since the mid-1940s, wow. Speaking of wow, there were way more flavors than I had expected, around 40? If the name wasn't *Lemon* Ice King, I'd probably get a different flavor, but I ordered lemon of course. We asked one of the young guys working what the popular favors were, and I believe he said lemon, cherry, rainbow, and mango were customer faves. I'm not an expert on Italian ices but I was enthusiastic about this one. I got the large size ($4) which, looking back, was probably too big. But of course I ate every last snowflake. The ice was smooth and soft. The lemon will knock you on your butt, it's pretty intense! I had a small bite of my friend's coconut, and it seemed full of tropical flavor. Rainbow, was really good as well if you don't know what you want. Nice mixture of lemon, blue raspberry, and cherry. It is probably not the most appealing to look at though, lol. There is a wide variety of flavors but sample is limited to one per person, according to one of the staff members, which I find disappointing.
