This place changed my life. Jessica is amazingly patient and a very good teacher. I started with the women's self defense class, I just wanted to feel a little more safe/confident and ended up loving Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai more than I ever could have imagined. It was easy to be a beginner because the vibe in class is always perfect-low pressure, high encouragement and no negativity. The thing I was not expecting was that my health would improve so immensely from these activities. Jess is amazing! Not only is she a kind, patient and knowledgeable coach for our jiu jitsu women's team, but she also has the knowledge and ability to provide quick pain relief from anything that is ailing you! The first time she worked on me I was having terrible shoulder pain from a c6-c7 injury and the migraine that comes with it. I've tried so many things for this and nothing has really helped so my expectations were not too high but I left there with minimal pain, migraine gone and had the best sleep of my life that night. I went back to her because I was having terrible sciatic pain after coming back to jiu jitsu after years of being away. She quickly noticed my stance was off and helped correct that so I'm mindful not to favor one side, and gave me instructions on what I could do to provide some relief from the sciatic pain. Those two things made such a big difference and then when she worked on me just 1 time for the sciatic pain I left there with ZERO pain! I was amazed and just waiting for the pain to come back and I am happy to report that it is still feeling great after a week has gone by! I train with both Jess and Dutch. Jess has helped me to train in a pain free way. She understands how fascia, ligaments and muscles work together and how to correctly lift and train. I spent well over a decade in the judo world, and unfortunately due to a terrible knee injury that I allowed to dictate my life, my days in martial arts seemed over. Completely by chance, I met Jessica and Dutch at their home. After explaining my knee being junk essentially, and my old Judo days, Jessica straight up told me it can be solved. After multiple surgeries and doctors just saying just wait u til you are 45 for a replacement, here was a person telling me this problem can be solved. Fast forward 6 months, and through corrective exercise movements, my leg works again, and I am back on the mat training jiu jitsu, and even ranking up already, while having a ton of fun. Jessica and Dutch are officially my coaches, but they are more importantly friends that I am grateful to now have up here where martial arts is rare. Our school is physically expanding, and it's about to really take off. If you are up here in Big Bear, you should come and train!! I was a write off that is redeeming himself, so I can testify to how important it is. Plus, we are about to have an amazing space which will make our academy a premier facility on the mountain. As a plus (or minus as you are training hahaha) the 7000 foot altitude will whoop you silly while making you so much better. If you are visiting on a weekend, stop by for open mat on Saturday. I have fixed so many positional issues by showing up and importantly asking questions. APT is like a new home and it is saving me. Honestly, Jess has been the best trainer/corrective specialist I've had so far. The amount of results I've seen in a short period of time with Jessica vs sports Dr's or usual sports medicine rehab centers was miles apart. I completely ruptured my patella tendon back in Oct. 2015 and was unable to carry my own weight on that leg comfortably until I started my journey with Jess. I am now able to train Jiu Jitsu again without fear of serious injury and still see her twice a week. Not to mention she is helping me with muscle imbalances that I was told I'd "grow out of" or that "there isn't much we can do outside of surgery". She is very knowledgeable, attentive, understanding, and listens to your needs. I definitely recommend her if you are just looking for a personal trainer to kick your butt into shape and I most definitely recommend her if you need help getting back after an injury. Hands down the most fun I've ever had training with a personal trainer. Jessica motivates me and really know how to get the most out of me.
