Since I wasn't physically at the property I decided to call around for some quotes. As soon as I spoke with someone at the Clean Air Co., I knew they were who I wanted to go with. They got it scheduled and said the technician would call me once he assessed the vent. To my surprise, the technician reported that the vent was already really clean and told me it wasn't necessary. He said he'd of course be happy to do it but he thought I'd rather save the money. I'm so grateful for his honesty. Not only was he awesome, but both of the folks in the office who I spoke with were very friendly and helpful as well. So, while I can't speak to the services themselves, I feel I can strongly recommend the Clean Air Co. based on my interactions with three different employees, who were all the kind of people I'd want working for me. Jonathan, the son of the owner, came to my house to do an inspection before I sold my home. He was…read morereferred by a friend. We proceeded to the unit outside where we took the cover off and he stated everything was working fine, and he would give me a report to give my real estate agent. While finishing up, Jonathan told me there would be no charge but to sign the form stating the service was done. I offered him some beer as a thank you. He took several 6 packs, and proceeded to have several while chit chatting in my drive way with me. A couple months later, Jonathan has moved on to another job, and I all of the sudden owe the company money for an inspection. Jonathan claims he cannot do anything as this is what the service cost, even though I was told it would cost nothing and he took beer as a thank you for coming by and checking regardless. The billing department says they have no control over Jonathan, even though this is a small operation where Jonathan is the son to the owner, and I will be forced to pay. They will not help communicate with Jonathan, the owner, or try and make any compromise because of the terrible lack of communication and poor professionalism by their employee. Steer clear of this business as there are some obvious communication and ethical issues going on behind the scenes.

On installing a new gas line for my grill they got the connectors backwards and left the shut-off valve in a wobbly unstable condition. when I called them back they back out to fix the install they charged me another three or four hundred dollars to finish the job. My fan motor quit--the price was 800 dollars for a "Kit" since they said the motor itself was not available. This was many times what the motor itself would have cost. After several calls concerning one of my air conditioners not keeping up they found nothing wrong. A week later when one of them obviously was working poorly They sent a tech out who "cleaned" both units and pumped 5 pounds of freon into both compressors at $100 per pound. After paying almost $800 we were in worse shape than before. When they left neither of the air conditioners worked correctly or at all. That night it got to over 80 degrees upstairs while the downstairs unit couldn't maintain temperature as well. My out of town guests had to go to a hotel to be able to sleep. The next day I had Lee company come in and take a look. The two units were leaking freon badly and should never have had any freon put in to failing systems. During the latter episode they were unresponsive to my calls and e-mails. I only heard from them again when they queried why I had cancelled their check for the $800. I sent another check for the full amount and asked if they felt that they should cash it --having gone over the litany of events surrounding the most recent weeks. Well, they did cash the check and just today I got a letter from their book-keeper to refund their original bank fee of $35 for the first check being cancelled. All in all signs of things getting off course for a firm that I had felt good about for more than 25 years.

We asked 3 different companies for quotes to do some foundation work and encapsulate the…read morecrawlspace, and got wildly different prices for both jobs. I definitely recommend getting multiple quotes and asking as many questions as you can about what is what is not included, no matter what. While we went with a different company for the foundation work, DocAir gave a great quote and scope of work for the encapsulation. In the end, we didn't do their recommended "storm water management", as we had only minor water intrusion from the outside, but a lot of water coming from condensation on the air vents from the incredibly high humidity in the crawlspace (over 90% humidity constantly during the summer), which was also soaking and warping the wood support beams and floor joists and getting behind the insulation. We did: 1) fungus remediation, which included the tedious and hard work of removing a huge amount of dirty and wet insulation under the floorboards, 2) trenching the edges of the crawlspace and installing drain pipes and a sump pump, and 3) encapsulation with dehumidifier (drains into the sump pump), which also included sealing points of entry like pipes and external vents. Note that the other quotes were more expensive and did not even include removing insulation or treating fungus (companies often expect you to hire someone else to do that before they start work). To set expectations, they are quite busy so be patient. It took about a month to get scheduled and another month for them to come out and do the work. A two-man team (Joselino and Orlando) did all the work over 3 days, and they were professional, polite, thorough, and did incredibly high quality work. I had the plumbing inspected before they came to ensure no pipes would leak into the encapsulated space, but they still found a leaky coupling and replaced it! DocAir supplies a remote temperature and humidity meter as well so you can continually compare the house to the crawlspace (you can check the outside weather report for another comparison). It's winter now, but we've recently had a few very rainy days with humidity reaching up to 94% outside. The crawlspace humidity has steadily decreased from 55% immediately after installation to 45% (very good!), and the house/crawlspace temperatures have been within about 5 degrees of each other. This suggests that the crawlspace is effectively insulated from outside temperature and humidity. Also, you can optionally have them come inspect the system every 6 months (for $60 a visit) to ensure everything is still working correctly, change the dehumidifier filter, etc. I plan to do this to make sure everything is still working well with the combined effects of humidity and my AC vents!
