We were introduced to all the horses and donkeys, the goats and the chickens. Kaity was wonderful with my grandson who became more comfortable with the animals and the barn over the visit. All the animals are so well cared for and it was a great experience all around. We hope to come back another time. It was a lovely way for my grandson to meet larger animals and start to be comfortable with them.

Walking inside, it's a different experience at Wright's Farm. This visit, I want to buy a bottle of local wine and some local cheese then go back to the hotel. I see there is a very nice selection of Hudson Valley and regional wines. I also buy a nice local, spreadable cheese along with some crackers. I noticed towards the back, I see a wall of homemade jams. And they're all packaged in these cute mason jars! Strawberry Jelly is a must but then we went a little nutzo with a few more jam flavors as well as homemade apple sauces, fresh cheeses and pickles! Sunday, its check out time and we're heading back to Long Island after breakfast. My wife said we need to go shopping for dinner today. I said, Let's go back to Wright's Farm and pick up dinner? And this was the highlight of our trip. In the cold cases, I see homemade ravioli, one of the stuffings was corn? I had plans to stop in The Bronx and get a few boxes of Raviolis. I gambled and said lets try their corn ravioli. O.M.G. This ravioli was fantastic! My wife made it with fresh sage from our herb garden. It was a little pricey but it was better than anything I had this year. For the week, we bought a large ham steak and a ham hock for pea soup. I saw something interesting, a black futsu squash? I told my wife, lets buy one and take a chance. Amazing! My wife cooked this squash and it came out deelish. Dessert? My sons inhaled the apple cider doughnuts we bought home for them. Wright's Farm, it was a pleasant surprise to discover your local farmstand.

Honestly the visiting experience was only okay, I am not sure I'd go back or recommend it BUT this is tempered by the fact that I did buy the biggest, prettiest mum and I may go back again for another one next year. I definitely have the nicest mum in all of Jersey City. I think it was around $20 for my huge mum and I was going to buy some apple cider donuts, but when I saw they were charging $18 for 12 donuts I put the package back on the shelf.

There's no menu, but from what I can gather, the prices are as follows: Eel (Janguh) for 2 people: $30 Chicken soup (Baek suk) for 1 person: $55 Spicy chicken stew (Dakdoritang) for 2 people: $55 Whole pig BBQ for 10 people: $700 Basically, our group of 10 wanted to try everything on the menu except for the pig (save for next time!) and we just called ahead and told them that we didn't need whole portions of everything for every person. You pay for what you pick and they have different sizing options. Lavender is only seasonal of course but you can find out what they have in season of pick the beautiful wildflowers if they're around. To be honest just coming out here to relax is an experience itself. They have continuous different types of workshops available done right at the open area (it has a cover so in case it's too hot or it rains you're good!). My husband and I came here for the 1st time to do a yoga class with Lily and we both had such a great time. It was a hot sunny evening but to smell the lavender , hear the bees buzzing and to feel the breeze it was the perfect night. The 2nd time I cam here was with my family we decided to pick Sunflower . I thought they field would had been bigger but that's okay we all enjoyed it and it was a great time. What I most love about this location is there is no entrance fee . Definitely check out Lavenwood I highly recommend it.

My lab wanted to go apple picking and we ended up choosing this orchard. I believe there were…read moreothers close to this one, but we went with Ochs because of the low admission fee ($5 per person) and petting zoo. It was an hour and a half drive from upper Manhattan. We went here on a random Wednesday afternoon so we basically had the orchard to ourselves. The first parking lot you see is for their store, you have to keep driving up for the u-pick orchard. There you check in to pay your admission fee, get your wristband, and get your apple picking bag(s). They give you a map where the ripe apples are highlighted for you. My favorite apples were the honeycrisp and snap dragons. They grow vegetables too but honestly we didn't explore the orchard that much (it was huge) so the only other thing I picked besides apples was a tomato, which I felt like was pretty difficult to find a good one. I handed out the apples to other friends and colleagues and they all liked them! There's something different about picking the apple straight off the tree than the apples you would normally just buy at a grocery store. It's a lot crispier when you pick them yourself! The store has apple cider doughnuts! Now being that I am a Californian where we don't have this apple picking culture, I was wondering what all the hype around apple cider doughnuts was about. NOW I GET IT they're so good! Unfortunately since we went on a weekday the doughnuts weren't fresh (they make them fresh on the weekends) so some of them were stale, but most were still good. It's honestly more of a cake than a doughnut, but so good! The doughnuts are self serve towards the back. The store also had a cat on the prowl haha We ended up not even having time to visit the petting zoo, but overall I think my colleagues had a good time here and I would recommend this orchard for anyone trying to have a no frills apple picking experience. I believe there was like a building restroom closer to the store and port o potties closer to the u-pick orchard.
