I have a bone to pick with this place let's start with money. Upon entering into a lease with this facility, I have had nothing but trouble. First of all, the staff was friendly as heck but then it went downhill when all of my personal items went missing from my storage space. I tacked on the extra fee in insurance and look what happens... I learned that my items were missing, I immediately want to leave the space because, I don't trust it any longer. Although I had more days left on my leasing agreement to remove my things, my code to access my belongings by the garage entrance was locked. I was with a brother who had cerebral palsy and wheelchair bound, they locked us out sooner then usual and I had expressed to the associate manager that I was moving out. The manager immediately deactivates my code and the next month I am still being charged a storage fee! I stopped by the West Loop location and was lucky enough to have her sitting behind the desk when I walked in (her normal store location is on Harrison). Not only was she incredibly knowledgeable about all of the ins and out of the storage process, paperwork, lease, etc, she's a 10/10 on the friendly scale and was extremely polite and legit fun to chat with! Clean, secure and convenient... I live in an urban apartment that is short on storage space. I hate clutter so renting a unit here was the perfect solution for me. I store my bike and seasonal items here and it works out perfectly. I can access my bike from 6 am until 11pm and it's easy to get in and out. As others have said, Ketora was phenomenal. I got checked in quickly, and though she said she'd been having a slightly challenging day, I saw her treat several other customers with enormous amounts of respect and a smile - even saving one of her customers from getting a ticket because he hadn't turned on his hazards when he parked outside. She also helped me get my 9' cargo van into and out of the storage unit - since I wasn't feeling very confident with it in the smaller spaces. And as for the rate increases a couple of people have mentioned, it's just their policy. But it's pointed out several times when you sign up, and you get a copy of the contract in writing, so at least it's not a surprise. read more

I've been using this Extra Space location for business for several months now, and I haven't had a negative experience yet. We receive large shipments of heavy materials there on a regular basis, and Angie always goes above and beyond to help us with these. The space is very clean, secure, and there's free parking inside for customers. The pallet jack and dolleys on site make transporting heavy pallets very easy. read more

Christine rocks. There was a mix up where an employee told us he was holding the unit for us until the next day and it was rented to another person. She worked with us to get us a comparable unit at a good price. Always great when a store manager goes above and beyond to keep your business. Our move was running about five hours late and she gave us a 24 hour access code that allowed us to move when we were able to. it is a small but very nice touch that they play music in the storage area. My entire experience with Extra Space was top notch. From my first phone call to them through moving out the staff was incredibly professional, friendly, and accomodating. Angie is the on-site manager. She set me up with an amazing deal and walked me through all of the terms and conditions. Angie helped me extend my lease when I needed to and had answers to all of my questions. At first I thought working with Extra Space was too good to be true but through the whole experience they were upfront and I paid exactly what they said I would for the time I was there. I'm not a huge fan a big corporate chains but this experience gave me some new perspective. i had a moving experience of a lifetime.. i was on day two of my move into my storage unit when I dropped my keys to my U-haul down the elevator shaft. yea... for real it happens... it was after office hours for the Extra Storage but i called there 800 number to get some help. i was told I'id receive a phone call from someone who could help after i got off the phone with the hotline. I received a call from the regional manager about 15 minutes later. He gave me all the information i needed and gave me his personal number incase something else went wrong. The next morning i went into Extra Storage and sat in the office with the general manager (Kristine) who was so patient and even made time to try to cheer me up. She helped me make phone calls and research prices so i could find the best way to get my keys back or have a new pair made. My experience with Extra Storage was amazing. I will be telling all of my friends, family, and clients about my experience. read more

Don't take the first month free because they will not refund your money back for one time fee and the insurance. When I got there to the place on June 9, and they said, they will refund my money, if I move out before my due date. Just pay for the money up front, and if you rental a locker or storage unit. The customer service is okay. The insurance is $10.00 a month vs $6.99 at u-haul insurance. read more

TIP: Reserve online for better price! I had seen such bad ratings at the other location on Jefferson south of Adams... I didn't think that such a "better" one could exist in such short distance. I saw the good ratings, plus I pass by it several times a week during my regular routine. Someone called from the location to remind me that my online reservation was about to expire: I think they give about a week between reserving online & them holding it for you at that price. I appreciated the reminder, plus I highly recommend you reserve online bc the price difference adds up quickly. I had to move up in size once I eyeballed it in person, which was easily accommodated, & I literally was reserving online w/ my iPhone while he was starting on my paperwork. I guess they don't see the good discount the company gives through the online reservation. Good people. Clean & new facilities, easy to access with their indoor parking area, & easy to load your items a cart & get them to your unit on the cargo elevator. The dock in back (off the side street & opens with your code) is even better, more private, since it only allows one truck at a time. If you have to go the storage route & especially if you need an easy place to access (store unseasonal clothes,etc) I highly recommend this place. read more
