They also have a frequently updated drink menu and their mac and cheese bites are huge but we always order more hah. i'd give this place seventeen stars if i could. best beer selection in Akron. this is the bar that i first discovered Kenucky Bourbon Barrel Ale at, and i've never been the same since then. i order that beer everywhere i go now! their grilled cheese is great, and i really love their mac and cheese. the roasted red peppers and basil really add a nice bite to it! and the tots? the tots are always perfect! Napoleon Dynamite would definitely never share these with anybody. the only real issue I have with Lockview is parking can be a bit of a pain in the ass. if i want grilled cheese, this is the only place i will go. read more

This is NOT a sports bar at all. They had an old Elvis movie on the TVs at 7 pm and acted like it was a real inconvenience to change the channel. If you like cheese, you'll like The Lockview. The specialty is gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches, and I think they're awesome. I had pepper jack and jalapeos on cheddar sour dough, along w/ fries and tomato soup. I was very pleased, and I'm looking forward to going back. It's in the old Lime Spider, so it still feels like the Lime Spider, only nicer and with fewer beers. There are more beers on tap, but fewer in the cooler -- still a nice selection though. One last bonus for The Lockview: It's quite affordable. For four good beers and two dinners, the cost was $36. And Leah works there, and she's a great bartender. read more

Went here for my brother's birthday. The food literally took 1hr and 15 minutes to reach our table. When it did finally come out, only half of our 11 person party received their orders. After waiting an additional 30 minutes, which was filled with trying to wave our server down, we were told "there is something wrong with our fries right now." Another 15-20 minutes passed as we watched servers ignore our table. The entire situation was ridiculous. Even after contacting the manager we were told "this doesn't normally occur, what did you guys order?" I've never seen service like this before. I mean lets be serious, they serve grilled cheese sandwiches... How long does it take to make a grilled cheese?! Maybe you could have a different experience, but if your waitress is named Taylor, I doubt it. Thanks for ruining my brother's birthday dinner lockview. And Taylor, fuck off. read more

Terrible place for groups. Rude and unprofessional. Server won't work hard because she's guaranteed a tip. Cold food, took a long time to come, messed up checks. Asked us to leave after 2 hours and started clearing the table before we were finished eating. Sent an email to the owner to inform him of the situation and received the most unprofessional response from a manager that accused me of lying about the experience and "hiding behind email." Who gets hostile in response a customer? Obviously only a restaurant that clears a table while people are still eating. UPDATE: then after they accused me of lying and said I was hiding behind my email (this person didn't even sign their name, who is hiding?) Amazing grilled cheese sandwiches. My personal favorite (Can't remember the name right now) has sliced caramel apples and bacon. AND the give you Goldfish on the side instead of fries. Really makes you feel like your 6 years old again. That is, until you realize that they have the best beer selection in Akron. Our usual Post-Seminar-Beer place was overcrowded and we spontaneously ended up at Lockview and man what a wonderful twist of fate. I am usually not a huge fan of sandwiches but those grilled cheese sandwiches are so amazing I am pretty sure they are served while standing in line to enter heaven. I am also a huge fan of their beer collection. I am German so I get the German beer and it was not expensive at all...I guess it depends on what your tastebuds want...My friends love the $10 off a wine bottle on wednesday night deal!! haha. so I had the grilled cheese with the goat cheese, spinach and roasted peppers on herb bread. It was wonderful. The grill was nice and crisp but not greasy which can be hard to find. I was not a huge fan of the fries but tried my friends Tots and they were excellent. Then I also tried the mac and cheese and they were THE best mac and cheese ever... The music is great, the servers super nice, helpful and knowledgeable, the food is great, the beer is delicious and the prices are fair, especially for the size and the quality of the food! The front of house staff were totally unconcerned with the fact that only half of our party got their food. The staff aggressively avoided eye contact, especially after they realized the massive error in service they were committing. Mind you, we ordered *grilled cheese sandwiches* so there is no logical reason for a one hour delay between the first volley of sandwiches and the second, if all the sandwiches were ordered at the same time. What a great addition to Akron! While I was home, I had heard it was a great beer bar, so had to check it out. It was def a no-frills interior, which was nice. Amazing atmosphere and delicious food. We sat at the bar because of the crowd, but were instantly greeted. The bartender made sure our beers were what we wanted, and that we didn't go hungry as we waited for our food. Kitchen was a bit slow, but the crowd was huge compared to what they usually get. I've been to Lockview a few times now and I'm always impressed. They're beer selection is impeccable! They've got many different styles of beer that can please almost everyones palate, and the food is always cooked and plated well. The portion sizes are slightly small, so I'd go with an appetizer to start which I'd recommend the spicy cajun krab dip (sounds a bit odd I know but it's delicious!), the tator tots or the fried pepperoni. I'd have to recommend the goat cheese grilled cheese sandwich or the mashed potatoes and gravy grilled cheese as an entree. Overall, the restaurant is slightly small, has an intimate/hipster feel and gets pretty crowded on Friday and Saturday nights. I'd recommend not going in a group larger than 6 or you might have to wait a while for a table. read more

We arrived around 5pm on a Wednesday there were only two other tables of people there. The bartender promptly greeted us told us to sit anywhere so we chose a booth. She got us water and menus and told us our server would be "right with us" well that was a bit of a lie after ten minutes of sitting there watching him chat it up with the bartender I finally walked up to him and asked if we could order. He acted like she never told him we were there. Not sure if that's true or not. However once we ordered it was much better service after that. The food is really good I had the black Forrest ham grilled cheese with Swiss, grilled pineapple and BBQ sauce. The fries were a bit to be desired. They are hand cut which I like but it was fried pretty dark and my wife got the fried chicken sandwich as well and it was a little dark. Not overdone but like they hadn't changed the grease in a while. All in all it was a good meal after a rocky beginning not sure I would go back though. If we got that kind of service when the place is empty I'd hate to see it when they are busy. read more

Really disappointed in this place... maybe it's just me, but I think food should taste good without a beer. We had heard great things from several people bit when we went, we found that it was pretty substandard. We both had grilled cheeses - I had the corned beef special and he had a number 7. We also had the fried pepperoni and the croquettes. Overall, both sandwiches were lacking in flavor. The fried pepperoni was actually just fried little pepperoni slices - too big for two people who don't want to have a heart attack. We were seated next to the hostess stand, where the hostess and a waiter? talked/hovered next to our table for over an hour. So obnoxious to have their loud conversation right next to us. When you are working on a restaurant, you just don't stand around chatting all night. We will not be back - annoying staff and subpar food do not make for a good dinner :( read more

My personal favorite is the number 13 with artichokes, dill havarti cheese and a lemony oil. I also recommend the mushroom and cream cheese dip as an appetizer. After reading other reviews was hoping and expecting much more. The atmosphere was very nice and they have a great selection of beers but t hose two things are the only positives I can say. They are known for their gourmet toasted cheese sandwiches, it sounded fun so ordered number 6 and my wife ordered a burger.50+ minutes later we received our food. There were several open tables when we arrived so being extremely busy is not the reason. Was the food good? Not any better than we could prepare at home. This may be an "ok" place if you want to hang with a few friends and have a few beers but if you have a schedule to keep, I would suggest some place else. Waiter was not great, finished my beer and was never asked for another. Was handed our bill and Waiter tried to take plate away with food still on. By this time, there were several people waiting and think they just wanted to herd you out and more in. Was NOT impressed and do not plan on giving them another chance. The bar atomosphere is great... the restaurant service, not so much. My friends and I tend to frequent The Lockview any time we are in DT Akron. Unfortunately, the terribly slow food service always seems to amaze me. Grilled cheese sandwiches don't take too long to make, until you have the cook staff of The Lockview in charge of doing so! If you are interested in eating at this local Akron restaurant, be sure to block out at least two hours for a simple semi-decent grilled cheese. Not everything about The Lockview is terrible. Like I said, the bar scene is a great place to go and hang out any night of the week... Just don't go hungry! read more

Was told this was a family friendly restaurant by a well meaning trolley driver. We get there and it was very dark, so much so that some other patrons were having to use the flashlights on their phones to read the menu- more of a bar for sure! -Over priced cheese sandwiches. We were charged a whole dollar to substitute from American cheese to cheddar, 1.50 to add an extra slice of cheese to another sandwich. I should have gone to the grocery store, bought the ingredients and cooked them with the iron in my hotel room for less. Was also over charged for a sandwich that had no changes at all. When questioned, the waitress had no reason but didn't change it to what the menu said. Won't recommend to anyone (and when I'm in Akron I'm among a group with families across the world.) I can't say enough good about this place!!!!! the beer selection is fantastic and the staff ,while very knowledgeable of what they have, never pushes one particular brand of flavor over the other ( other places do this and i find in annoying ). It is a nice mix of older and younger customers and a unbelievably well mannered crowd. It is nice to find a craft beer bar that isn't filled with snooty help and mouthy drunk patrons , how they are keeping that crowd out i have no idea but i am glad year after year they keep doing it. Now the food!!! so many choices and thats just the grilled cheese, the wait is average for a place its size and once again the wait staff is always smiling and attentive. I love their burger, and the sweet potato fries are to die for!!!!! One of the nicer touches is asking your name, then remembering it.....its actually refreshing to not be called "dude" or "brother" Thanks to the management for making this place what it is and keeping it that way for so many years. read more
