We discovered this place via Yelp while visiting Akron and trying to get in out of the rain. This was a really nice place to grab a late lunch. Very clean and a nice space. The sandwiches are very creative. I had the #6 grilled cheese with cheddar, apples and bacon. My husband had the Chicken Cordon Bleu. We both really enjoyed our lunch and if we are ever in Akron again we would make this a stop. The waitress was very nice and helpful, our food came quickly and service overall was great. read more

I don't know where to begin. Me and Brucie sat here for a while after being sat in the worst area . Their servers sat on their phones or were just talking to each other as we sat waiting for one to come to us to ask us for drinks. A couple minutes later, a family comes in with no reservation, and gets served drinks and get better seats than we ever did! After 20 mins of not being asked for what I'd like to drink, we left. As we left they yelled have a nice day. Im hurt. Im upset. I looked forward to a meal like this, and sadly nobody came to the occasion. So on my visit to Ohio this week, poured over Yelp to find a great little spot to have some awesome drinks and great food! I settled on the Lockview due to some pictures and previous reviews. Sad to say, I'm truly disappointed. The chili was watery, lacked flavor, and loaded with beans; barely any actual meat. At maybe 1/4 of it and couldn't take it anymore. Also ordered a wedge salad which was pretty good, but nothing to write home about. Beer list lacked some really great IPAs that I was expecting and looking forward to and top shelf vodka drink was tiny, and pricey. read more

Funky, dark and hip, the Lockview looks like a mystery from the outside without any windows and apparent signage. But inside it opens up to a long dining room, bar, muted lighting and televisions playing classic movies. With a small menu of apps, salads, cheese sandwiches and more, you can make a casual meal here and wash it down with a huge selection of craft beers and decent list of cocktails. I ordered up the apple, bacon and cheddar (#6) with tots along with a iced tea and margarita. The menu here is available until midnight on the weekends, very nice! Service is pretty quick here, it's a nice looking sandwich dripping with cheese along with a pile of crunchy tots. The sandwich is nicely griddled and on thick Texas toast. Nicely melted, thick cheddar, crisp bacon along with some thick sliced apples makes for a comforting mouthful. Service from the hip staff is on point and attentive without being overdone. All in all the Lockview is a nice little spot for beers, cocktails and some yummy eats. I was VERY pleasantly surprised by the Lockview; my expectations weren't high when coworkers said we were going to a place specializing in grilled cheese. But I loved the atmosphere - a more refined but comfortable vibe. You could absolutely come for a nice happy hour or casual date. And I really loved the food. Despite the big variety of really unique sandwich options (which all looked fresh and amazing - and my coworkers confirmed that they were), I opted to be "good" and go for a spinach salad with chicken. And much to my surprise, it had such great flavor and was very filling! I'd be eager to go back to get the salad again, which is rarely the case. Nice dim ambiance without being pretentious. Lockview is an Akron staple. Everything I've ever had here is good, but last night I had the #11, and it knocked my socks right off. Lobster, lemon aioli, arugula grilled cheese. It was so good, I can't stop thinking about it. I usually like to switch it up when I go the same place a number of times, but I'd have a hard time ordering anything else from now on. Usually anything lobster is super expensive, but this wasn't. $10 for one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. They also have a gazillion beers on tap, possibly more. read more

The Lockview has become one of our fave stops while visiting family in Ohio and this visit we lucked into an excellent special of the eve - Lobster Mac & Cheese. YUM! It was a tough call picking between their grilled cheese masterpieces and the special, so hubs and I split our dinners and we got to enjoy some of each - belly bliss!! If you happen to be there when it's on the menu, the lobster is more shredded vs. chunky in the dish, surprising you every so often with a cheesy cluster of lobster goodness. Our other shared plate included the #3 grilled sammie with pepper jack cheese & fresh jalapeño peppers and french fries. On a side note, their tomato soup is a worthy compliment to any sandwich but we did not have room for it this visit. The atmosphere for dinner is a nice mix of all ages and pretty laid back, playing older tunes and throwback tv shows above the bar. We had an exceptional waitress that eve but everyone we encountered was welcoming. read more

Gourmet grilled cheese, what more can you want on a cold october day? Went to Lock 3 area with a friend for lunch. What a treat! I had a the chicken parmagiana sandwich with mozarella and argula on texas toast. So good. My friend had her usual, a number 6. A tasty grilled cheese with pickles, mustard and red onion. She got the traditional side of goldfish and I got tator tots. One great thing about Lockview is that the portions are just right. You don't leave hungry and you don't leave stuffed. It is just right. They have a list of beers a mile long. My friend couldn't decide so our very friendly waitress, Reagan let her taste a couple. Which reminds me to tell you that our service was fantastic! Our glasses were never empty. Our plates were cleared promptly and she let us chat without making us feel unfortable. We went at 11:30 am and didn't have any trouble getting a metered spot in front of the restaurant. But I can see during busy times how parking can be a bit tricky. I will be back! read more

I've been here a few times and I feel as though the quality has slipped a little bit over the years. I remember the quality of ingredients being better and the presentation more thought out and presentable. I hate to say it but the food and presentation is better at the Melt chain of restaurants. The service was painfully slow on my last visit. I joined my party a tad late and when I sat down they said "order two drinks because you won't see our server for another hour". We met around 6pm so it was busy, I'll give them that. I just left the establishment feeling a bit let down and slightly ripped off for the prices. I hate writing negative reviews but I simply didn't enjoy my last visit. I hope they can turn this around! read more

If you're a fan of grilled cheese make sure to make time to visit The Lockview the next time you are in downtown Akron! The parking situation currently isn't great with all the construction in downtime however, there are plenty of parking garages around and multiple meters on the side streets. Bonus, weekends there is free parking in the garages and the meters are free after 6pm. The atmosphere at The Lockview is casual, plenty of booth and table seating with a rooftop bar that is open at specific hours. Staff is relatively hands off but will make sure you get what you need. There are always a ton of great beers on tap and a huge bottle/can selection. The cocktails are ok, but I would recommend going the beer/cider route if dining here. The food is comfort food at it's finest - for anyone who loves a good grilled cheese with a bowl of tomato soup! They have daily specials that are always interesting and their regular menu has something for everyone! They serve goldfish crackers with all their sandwiches which make a nice addition to a bowl of soup. They have a good selection of apps, the deep fried pepperoni is a go to for my friends. This is NOT a gluten free safe space - while there are a few things on the menu that are GF by default (mainly salads), it is definitely not their gig. read more

This is a great little bar-restaurant by the Akron theater. It is strange that both times I've been here, children's programming has been on the televisions over the bar. This is somewhere I'd plant myself for awhile if something better were on TV! We don't have television, so we go out for games all the time. Showing children's or classic movies without sound seems futile, who's really watching that? The food is better than average bar food. The fries are truly fresh-cut and perfectly cooked. The selection of grilled cheese fillings makes it difficult to only order one. We had the #6 which was cheddar, bacon and grilled apple. I love that the bread isn't too thick and balanced nicely with the fillings. The flavor combinations for the different sandwiches are creative. Ours was delicious. The cheese did need to be just slightly more melted to give us that perfect gooey melty experience. I always get a Bloody Mary here as the toppings make it a meal in a glass. It was fantastic and strong with vodka. I then had a Kentucky bourbon barrel ale that was on tap, one of my favs. The bathrooms were clean. The service was what I'd expect, good. We sat at the bar. I went for lunch and had their wedding soup (nice flavor, but a bit watered down) and grilled cheese on Texas toast. I liked the sandwich, but the cheese was more Velveeta rather than traditional cheese. The restaurant is a bit cramped and our table was a bit close to the others. Service was average and we spent most of our meal with our water glasses empty. The restaurant has a "sticky floor" feel to it and begs to be a bar rather than a restaurant. read more

I ordered the Warlock and lemme tell you, this stuff is dark and rich. Great seasonal flavors. I felt like someone had put a spell on me, I wanted more. It is really hard to make a burger enjoyable without a bun. Frankly, I usually don't order them anywhere because of it. If I am being honest, that was one of the only choices on the menu I could eat....sans a salad. So, I bit the bullet and tried it. The Lockview Burger without a bun was absolutely fantastic! Medium rare goodness, perfectly seared and seasoned perfectly. Love fries? SWEET MOTHER OF MONKEY MILK! Then this is the place for you. They are fresh cut and just plain amazeballs. One last thing. THEIR SALSA IS TO DIE FOR. I'd literally give my life for a bowl of this stuff. I ordered the chips and salsa as a starter and momma mia, it rocked my socks. The food here is great - crowd-pleasing, interesting apps, very tasty grilled cheeses and soups, interesting beer menu. For the food I give it a 5. The problem is the incredibly slow service. Not unpleasant....just amazingly slow. Three of us came and ordered drinks at lunchtime on a Saturday. 15 minutes later, I got a water (tho I ordered tea), and 5 minutes later our 2 other drinks arrived. There appear to be a sufficient # of servers.... Just seems their system is not conducive to efficient service. My mum and I went here on my birthday for some lunch thanks to the positive reviews posted here, and I'm really glad we did. When we walked in on a Thursday around 1 PM it was pretty quiet, but it was filled to the brim with people not too long after we sat down, so I guess we got lucky. Our server was nice and fun and the food was great. We started off with appetizers and drinks. Both of us got the Cosmo with the ginger liqueur, which was fantastic -- it tasted lovely, the ginger giving it a nice zing, and even after a meal that we were both very full from, we somehow a nice little buzz going on from the drinks. Appetizers were the fresh pitas with hummus, which was nothing too special but very nice, and the croquettes, which are mashed potato balls, breaded and fried, with this killer chipotle dipping sauce. The sauce really made those what they were. I'd take a vat of that stuff to just have hanging around at home if I could. Main meal was fish tacos for my mum (the server raved about them, and so did my mum after she tried them) and the grilled cheese with bacon and apples for me. It seemed a little off the wall for there to be apples on a grilled cheese, but not so off the wall that it didn't at least make sense. And it was really yummy -- the apples made it. Nice and sweet and crispy -- perfect textural difference and nice to add the sweetness to the otherwise fatty meal. Their homemade fries aren't too bad, either. I will absolutely be going back to The Lockview time and time again. For my first trip into Akron, I'm impressed! :) read more
