It seemed that the leadership role as a interviewer was being taken too seriously and as a result the interview was more uncomfortable than necessary. The questions asked were excessive and her tone was not very friendly and intimidating. This is very nice facility from the outside. But I wonder what it is like on the inside. It makes me afraid to get old and know there are people like this "behind the scene." I do not expect a person to act phony but what happened to "treating people as you would like to be treated." If this is the result of the empowerment movement then I am witnessing the pavement of a road to a crappy future. What a let down! I was really looking forward to the interview and a possibility of assisting with the care of people needing help as they age. I understand that an employer wants to try and hire the best candidate but intimidating people will not make me want to work there. And I can only imagine how miserable it must be to be on their "team" on a daily basis.

The staff was amazing, Nicole G. was also amazing in helping us prepare for moving Mom into Memory care in a way that made the transition seamless. When it came time to bring hospice in, the helped coordinate that service, and again, worked together with the hospice staff to provide compassionate, caring services the entire time Mom was there. The staff showed warmth and the utmost respect for both our family, and our Mother. We felt she was safe and in the best hands possible to make sure she got everything she needed. Balfour, at every turn, went above and beyond for our family member. She lived there for 2 1/2 years, spending the last year in memory care. All of the staff, top to bottom, are loving and kind. The clinical care is top notch. And at the end, the nurses became family to all of us. Balfour is a community, residents have friends and some even bring their dogs. It's a vibrant community and a gorgeous facility. You can't go wrong.

UPDATE 8/22/2020. There is a new General Manager and a new "chef," read a cook with no credentials…read moreand dinners are getting worse and worse. There's no point in specifics, except to say only the cheapest cuts of meat seem to be served. The GM doesn't attend the Food Committee meeting any more, showing she has little time and/or interest in the Committee's thoughts, wishes or suggestions. She does hear complaints from residents which seem to go in one ear and out the other. So aside from some cosmetic improvements and some shuffling of staff around, it's difficult to see what she's doing besides protecting the chief cook. At this rate Mackenzie Place continues to slide down the star constellation. We are still paying a whole lot of money, and I rely on King Soopers and Trader Joe's for decent, good food. I heard that the Director, Katie scolded and elderly man because he pushed the emergency button a lot because he kept on hitting the button by accident. The Director!!! Nita was the worst!!! Elder abuse to put it mildly. Don't give the time to take care of the residents who pay TOP DOLLAR to be there. and when they have to, they rush the residents who are sometimes unable to move as quickly as they expect them to do. One lady got knocked to the ground because the elevator door shuts so quickly. They couldn't find her for 20 minutes... even when she hit her emergency button. A lot of these people don't care about the residents. These people should listen to the residents in the dining room. They have a lot to say to each other, but are too scared to say anything to the staff.

They declined to have her placed there and rather then ever refunding us the $4400 they billed us and absorbed this amount even though she never spent another day there. Grace Pointe's team has been the most unprofessional I've interacted with while researching care…read morecommunities for my dad, who has dementia. I emailed back and forth with Jennifer (Dir of Marketing) several times for info on pricing/services. I also checked out their website's Careers page because I want to be sure my dad is supported by caregivers who are paid well and offered good benefits, as research shows those who are treated well by employers give better care to residents. But even though the page listed job openings, no pay ranges or benefits were listed, so I asked Jennifer to provide this info and explained why I requested it. Jennifer responded, "I would like to have time to talk with you in detail. Usually these questions are asked by competitors cold calling so I hope I am not coming across skeptical. ... I definitely would like to provide you with the information to make the best decision for your dad. A virtual tour is also something available if you cannot do one in person." This response was not only weird and off-putting, but also objectively problematic: 1. Colorado legally requires employers to publicly post pay ranges with job listings so workers don't have to waste time applying and interviewing for jobs with unfair wages. 2. Jennifer prioritized her fear of giving super basic info to competitors over giving transparent info to someone going through the traumatic process of watching her dad basically deteriorate. 3. Jennifer implied she would essentially hold info hostage unless I went on a tour with her. 4. If she was THAT worried, she could've easily found me on LinkedIn to see if I was a competitor. I sent a firm but cordial response pointing out that Grace Pointe is not legally compliant and the lack of transparency for both prospective clients and employees is unfair. I forwarded the email chain to the owner and executive director, clearly requesting a response/clarification from all three parties. Strangely, I didn't receive a reply, even though Jennifer had replied to all previous emails promptly. However, their Careers page was almost instantaneously updated, with all job listings removed and replaced by generic messages about how Grace Pointe loves its employees. As a former board member of a senior care nonprofit and volunteer of 3 different senior care organizations, these events have by far been the most concerning I've ever witnessed -- especially from a healthcare organization whose primary responsibility is ensuring seniors receive good care.
