One would never guess what is behind the simple Rumfish signage at the end of Main on Palm. My first trip was years ago and I've been back several times since. It is great for any special occasion and offers inside and outside dining. I suggested this restaurant to my out of town guests to celebrate my dear friend's birthday. Rumfish did not disappoint. The Spring weather is beautiful in Ventura so we sat outside. Service is prompt and casual. It was crowded even on a Thursday evening, but the outdoor area is spacious. Everything from appetizers to dessert is fresh and first class. Seafood options are plentiful and seasoned perfectly. The only downside is that parking is limited - only one handicapped spot for two busy restaurants. No parking signs prevent street parking up Palm. read more

Rumfish y Vino for Mother's Day. We made a reservation a week before and only had to wait about 10 minutes past our time, which honestly was not bad for such a busy day. The restaurant has a really cute Mediterranean/Italian vibe with gorgeous lemon trees and comfy patio seating. It was chilly outside, but the heaters made it comfortable. Staff was friendly, just very busy because of the holiday. Food took around an hour, but understandable for Mother's Day. The food was excellent. I got the flatbread with apricot jam and bacon, and it was such a good mix of sweet and savory with fresh arugula on top. Definitely recommend it. My boyfriend got the wagyu burger medium with fries and everything was cooked perfectly and served hot. After a recommendation from a friend, the fam and I went to this magical little spot in Ventura. We sat outside in the ferry lit alley. Service was exceptional. The server was sweet, knowledgeable, and she recommended a good wine and food. we had the quinoa salad to start, which was actually so delicious that I want to replicate the recipe if I can. Totally fresh and flavorful and ahem, healthy. We also had the goat cheese flatbread, which was absolutely delicious. For the Main, I personally had the hanger steak, which was fantastic. Great chimichurri and delicious broccolini accompanied it. One of my Rugrats had the burger which he said was the best Wagyu he's ever had. The other one had the cauliflower tacos and she was very satisfied. Hubs had the fish tacos which he devoured so I'm assuming he would give it a thumbs up. We stopped in for lunch after our friends recommended we try Rumfish. We were seated on the patio by a very friendly and attentive waiter. He recommended a few drinks and an appetizer to get us started and they were all great! We both had fish tacos, and ceviche, both very fresh, delicious and filling. Our drinks were delicious, and the alcohol in my margarita may have been skipped, but it was still tasty. Parking was easy on the street and the area is full of shops, restaurants and bars. Somewhat overrated! I'd found Rumfish y Vino on Yelp and made a dinner reservation well in advance. When we arrived, we chose to sit on the heated patio, which had a nice ambiance with trees wrapped in string lights. For drinks, I got a glass of Sauvignon Blanc, which was fine - not as light and crisp as I'd hoped. We started with the Octopus Tostones, Tropical Ceviche (Special), and Smoked Fish Spread. Portion sizes were small, and none of these items really blew me away. The octopus and fish were both fresh with nice texture, but the flavors were just bland. I got the Mussels as my entree, which had a nice garlicky sauce. But the best dish of the night was my partner's Creole Seabass. The texture was very soft, and this item actually had flavor. We shared the Apple Crumble for dessert, and even this felt like something was missing. Service was friendly and quick. We also enjoyed the salad and the coconut bread pudding. Also we received excellent service even with the waitress being very busy she still stayed attentive and checked on us which I really appreciated. There is plenty of seating at this location but most of it is outside. You can come here with friends and family or on a date. The patio was nicely lit and warm despite the cold weather outside was. We had great service from Kelly despite how busy it was. We always get the apricot habanero bacon flatbread and pork belly tacos, they're so so so good I can't recommend them enough. Tangini is also my go to drink but they had some valentine's day specials that were great too. We got dessert for the first time, pot de creme, really yummy! We loved this spot. Found it while searching for dinner spots and it's just off a side street from main st. Located next to this brick bar building, it looks empty when you drive by, but once you enter the restaurant, the patio is full of life. We were stunned by the incredibly tall lemon trees that have been there for over 35 years. We had some cocktails to start and then went straight to main courses, the Steak chimichurri plate was so tender and delicious, and the crusted sea bass with the lobster coconut sauce and coconut rice was to die for! The crispy salmon's skin was seared perfectly, presented face up with a warm juicy grilled lemon slice perched on top. The large piece of salmon was moist and perfectly seared. Both our dishes perfectly done. We had a great waitress. She seemed to be aware of the flow of the meal, every glass filled before it was empty. More lemon slices? Sure! She was just delightful and so was our experience. Salmon lunch $36.00 per plate. What an amazing restaurant! It has a very open and airy atmosphere with both indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating is in a quaint courtyard with a lemon tree and a plumeria tree. They also have a nice fireplace with tables nearby for warmth, as well as heating lamps throughout the courtyard. I definitely recommend making reservations, as this place was packed when we went at 6 p.m. on a Friday. We ordered drinks and some garlic fries to start. They have plenty of cocktails to choose from and a list of local brews to try. The garlic fries were done well and had a generous amount of garlic on top. We moved on to the Salmon Plate. This was an ample portion of salmon served on a bed of mashed potatoes and broccoli. The salmon was cooked to perfection and the flavor was spot on. This was our favorite dish. We also ordered a plate of fish tacos. Yum! The fish was fried nicely, and the house aioli added a fresh, bright taste to the meal. Finally, we ordered a Key Lime Pie. Service by Lea was excellent. I enjoyed the lively ambience of the full restaurant. The courtyard dining had beautiful trees laden with lemons. It felt like dining in Capri. I've dined here numerous times and the food is typically very good. This time wasn't quite as successful. The hamburger was overcooked and had a seasoning (perhaps chili powder?) I didn't care for. The skin-on fries were hot and delicious. The crispy mahi tacos had odd-shaped pieces of fish that only covered a portion of the tortilla. It didn't help that the fish wasn't hot, unlike the fries. I've never ordered and tasted ceviche unless it was for the table, and I didn't want to feel left out. Tasting ceviche has always been a shrug moment for me, as in "this tastes okay," then I focus on the other foods I like and order. I didn't expect to come to this restaurant to try the ceviche, but I ordered it when the super-friendly and knowledgeable server added, "This is what we're known for," after we mentioned it was our first time eating there. Might as well add it since it was happy hour. I expected the apricot habanero bacon flatbread or the pork belly and fish taco to be the tastiest of everything ordered. The flavors of habanero bacon flatbread mixed to create delicious flavors in my mouth. The pork belly taco was my favorite of the two tacos, and the pork belly and its contents combined well to make a yummy taco. But the star of the show was the ceviche. I don't know what flavors of fortune the raw fish was marinated in, but every flavor combined to create a concoction of delectable freshness and spice in every bite. It was the perfect cold dish in warm weather, and I fought with my husband for the last of the ceviche. I placed the ceviche into my taco, ate it by itself, and ate it with the chips it came with. Does an elbow to the rib hurt? Yes, it does, according to my husband, as we fought over the remnants of the dish.* Also, the vino at this place was spot on. I ordered the house red, and they gave me one of the most delicious wines I have ever tasted, even though it was just the house red. This restaurant, Rumfish y Vino, definitely lives up to the fish and wine hype. The restaurant is clean, the service is friendly, and there's a daily happy hour for food and drink. We started with some drinks. My wife had the Watermelon Mojito and I had the Cucumber Gin Collins and my daughter had the Dragonfruit Caipiroska. The Watermelon Mojito was the best. We decided to try a couple of small plates on their Sunday Happy Hour, yes you read that right. They have a Sunday Happy Hour!!!! I think my wife would have preferred less chorizo and more cheese in her Queso but everyone was very happy with their food. I was really excited to check out Rumfish y Vino, had it bookmarked for a while, I was enticed by their HH menu and the idea of eating on their patio, hoping for seclusion and relaxation. We got in just after 3 pm, we were confused that were many hostess-es, they were helping people ahead of us. When it was our turn, we were asked about reservation - didn't cross my mind to make one for 3 pm HH. The place was bigger than we thought, she told us there were no more tables available on their patio - which was surprising. I said we could wait a bit for a table, she cut me off, telling me there's no chance. We were trying to figure out our options: inside - a couple of busy areas- near the bar or near a group with a baby in a stroller, so no! Or in the sun, outside, in a strange alley, connecting the Livery, event spaces that the restaurant has around and the main waiting area for folks waiting for a table. The patio is cute (with lemon trees), shady, music is too loud. My husband pushed a table to get some shade for us and sat in that Rumfish adjacent alley. I had to go back and grab some menu-s since the hostess got impatient and was gone. A waiter said he'll bring us water, which we were eager to get. Another buss boy showed up with plates and utensils, threw them on the table, left. A few minutes later we asked another waitress for water. We finally got it. The waiter showed up, popped his head recognizing that he forgot about our water, but no apology. Then, another waitress came to get our order, she was cold, indifferent, unfriendly, didn't introduce herself or asked how we were doing. Got 2 Dragonfruit Caipiroska which were big, nice, strong, had a very good flavor. We also shared their apricot habanero bacon flatbread (delicious, plentiful portion wise) and their conch fritters (3 for HH) which were just OK, small portion and didn't win us over. Later on, we ended up ordering tacos after flagging our waitress who never checked on us once. They were busy with events, wedding, birthday party, but also the staff seemed big, a lot of people working. It is strange how they divide the work and rotate waiters all the time, so you don't have an assigned one to make things easier. The trio of tacos is very good - cochinita pibil, pork belly and fish taco (got grilled) with lots of nice ingredients and flavor. But it took forever to get them. In the meantime, sun got over our table so we had to move tables, far from ideal. Busy area - staff going to events to set it up, caterers, wedding party, folks waiting to get a table with kids screaming our ears off, people coming and going to the Livery or the restrooms located in the next building. Food takes forever to get, I am don't expect or want fast but it's too slow (we needed to get to the station to catch a train back), service is bad, you aren't taken care of. They showed up to grab plates and had to rush them a tad to get our bill. The tip reflected the lack of caring for us as new customers. We felt like small potatoes and we were treated accordingly. Later on, we noticed that other folks were seated on the nice patio - with no reservations, so what's the deal here? He ordered the steak, and I went with the salmon, both dishes were absolutely incredible. The salsa verde paired with the salmon was delicious; honestly, it might be the best salsa I've had in a while! We also got bacon wrapped shrimp which was just as delicious. The restaurant itself has such a cozy, charming vibe, and we were lucky enough to be seated right in front of the fireplace. While it did feel a bit cramped when the area by the host stand got busy, it was worth it for the wonderful ambiance. The customer service was outstanding as well. A huge shout-out to our waitress Laiah, if her manager is reading this, she was incredibly sweet and attentive. She definitely deserves a raise!
