We were very happy with our meal at The Strand. We went for dinner on Sunday. It was busy, but they were able to accommodate us. The service was very good, friendly, and professional. The restaurant was comfortable and inviting. Although, a bit warm inside. The menu is fairly extensive. We had the ribs & chicken, spinach salad, and a chicken penne pasta dish. I've been here several times and usually get their steak. The steak isn't even a Ribeye, but the cut of meat is extremely good. It's tender and flavorful and very impressive for how reasonably priced it is. I've had Quinn as a server multiple times and have enjoyed his super animated personality. What struck me tonight was that I watched him walk a very elderly woman in from the sidewalk and personally seat her. It's just nice, good character! Also, the busboy, Caininn was on it, helpful and friendly. Finally , I had chicken cordon bleu tonight and it was the best I've ever had.. it's was pan seared to perfection and the other ingredients were baked into the chicken with thoughtfulness. It seriously could have been from a top tier manhattan restaurant for quadruple the price. Apparently the head and associate chefs have been here for many years. This is the quintessential beach restaurant but elevated. I had the Shrimp linguini and it was delicious! If you are a ventura county native...combine a Lure pasta with a Dominicks pasta and you will experience what I ate at the Strand. My husband had the Philly steak sandwich and it was perfection. What a cool little spot in the Strand! (Silverstrand Beach) Small place with a bar area and the dining area has plenty of seating. Nothing fancy... staff is very friendly! We enjoyed a couple beers, and I had a dirty martini which was good! My husband and I weren't too hungry so we only ordered a couple of things from the starters menu. The server was really helpful with recommendations so we went with the Rib Tips which were really good, definitely large enough for two people to share or make a meal out of. Priced at just under $20! Good deal! Also our server recommended the Philly Cheesesteak eggrolls. Sounds different? They were pretty good, served with a cheese sauce for dipping. We were a bit taken back by the way they served them? The presentation definitely lacked effort-and they tasted better than they looked! The cut pieces were a little mangled and thrown on a plate with the dipping sauce... needs some garnish, maybe try to serve on some fluffy green leaf lettuce? Also the portion was absolutely not appropriate for how much they charged! Almost $20! Definitely not worth it! Under new management within the last year so, this quaint little local gem is now called " The Strand Bar & Grill". It's a tiny little spot next to Kidde Beach, off the channel by Port Hueneme. I had a great experience with the host, Raegan. She was polite and helpful and took my phone in order quickly with an upbeat attitude (thank you). We ordered a Philly cheesesteak and a Tri-tip sandwich. The menus on Yelp were over 6 years old so we were really just hoping they had these sandwiches! But they did and we got the order in. The parking lot is barely more than an apron of pavement next to the building. Just enough for a few cars to park at steep angles. But there is a ton of street parking nearby. Besides, this is a walk in kind of joint for the neighborhood. Love the vibe inside. Small town, comfort and kindness. Wood floors. Folks hold the door for you. Ahhhh, just right. I saw a bunch of fresh menus on the counter at the host stand and thought I'd take the opportunity to get familiar with it. Along the way someone else would probably want to see the latest offerings so here they are attached. I wish I had taken photos of the food! It was dynomite!! But alas, we was hungry haha. really a 4.5 if I could. Wednesday at 6:30pm the bar was hopping and several tables had patrons dining. We were cheerfully greeted and seated. The two waitresses were kept quite busy but managed to deliver courteous and efficient service. The food: the tri tip was not the best cut of meat--not very tender, cooked to order with a nice bordelaise sauce w/mushrooms (not over salted like many) and gorgonzola on top. Spinach salad very good as were the mixed veggies (not over cooked--woo hoo!) and the baked potato was perfect. The star of the show was the baby back ribs. We were just in texas and dined at several world famous bbq joints and I have to say the ribs at The Strand were better--probably the best I have ever had (including my own I'm sad to say). A generous portion, meaty, not fatty, fall off the bone tender and somehow soooo juicy. I'm not sure how they plated them without the meat falling off of the bone! The sauce was solid. We will be back--for more ribs and to try something else on their quite extensive menu. read more

From the French toast and bacon to the Eggs Benedict and omelette everything tasted amazing! The staff was friendly. The prices were fair. It wasn't too noisy or crowded. They have new owners and I'm sure they're going to get more popular - but right now it's the perfect place to go if you don't want a long wait. Food is very very tasty. Service was sweet although the cook seems a little bit slow or maybe needs some additional help? All that to say the quality of food indicated that most of the food is prepared in house and made to order, which seems very cool. I had the child's Mac and cheese and I'm not sure that I've had better Mac and cheese so there's that. Husband had the trip too sando and none of the tri tip was cut in an edible way, so much so that he had to separate the bread from the meat and cut and eat them methodically. Also, too much BBQ sauce, also BBQ was spicy, and no mention of it on the menu. We both drank an old fashioned, and they were fine, definitely a heavy pour (not a bad thing) but neighborhood pour for the price is fantastic...most people who come here live here it seems. The decor and ambience is strange and the over all experience was fine. So. 3 stars. read more

The food was good, I ordered the tri tip sandwich but the meat was tough to bite into, maybe it wasn't sliced against the grain or the pieces were too big and thick. This meant that the whole sandwich had to be taken apart and the meat cut up. Way too much bbq sauce, and I wasn't told it would be spicy. Didn't say it anywhere and I have stomach issues that makes it very unpleasant to eat spicy food. I would have gotten something else or sauce on the side if I knew. Maybe it was the grilled onions that were spicy? Didn't get a chance to tell the server about it because she didn't come around. The drinks were kinda pricey but good. The food was TERRIBLE!! I ordered ribs and grilled shrimp, the menu described the shrimp as grilled on a skewer definitely NOT grilled or skewered. A favorite of ours since the late '80's.. .. ..until now. Through 3 owners, this one seems to be a bit chintzy. No more 1/4 onion brick - only a big one: too big for 2 people; no more pickle with sandwich; no more cole slaw on the menu; (this is a place specializing in bbq, which, by the way, still has the best bbq sauce); French fries are not as good as they used to be; bbq chicken sandwich also not as good as it used to be; didn't have my Dewars, that they always had. Service staff, as always, was pleasant and very accommodating. Will return one more time in a few weeks to see if this last experience is just a one off. read more
