We went to Lost Pizza for an early late lunch with my family minus my wife who didn't come with us this week. We argued about what appetizer to get, and since we couldn't decide I decided we wouldn't get one. We got tamales the last time we were here, and they were tasty. We ordered a large Kujo without green peppers and a large Pit Boss. The Kujo was delicious, and I liked the Pit Boss but found the sauce a little so sweet that it overwhelmed everything else. My daughter and her boyfriend thought it had a different sauce than normal. The employees were very friendly, and we got our food fairly quickly. The atmosphere is a forced nostalgic county vibe. There were Pabst Blue Ribbon and Hamm's metal advertising signs, but when you look in the beer cooler, there was no BPR or Hamms to be found. One wall was decorated with LP covers, and it had an unexpected number of Barbara Streisand albums. I think Lost Pizza is a good value, and we will go again. read more

As is usual for places with belt-drive pizza ovens, when the pizza is good, "good" is about all that you can achieve without a deck pizza oven. I'm certainly not a snob about pizza, but expecting great pizza from a conveyor belt oven is akin to the magical belief that you can have a grilled cheese sandwich if you have two pieces of toasted bread and some cheese. Necessary, but not sufficient. [That said, I didn't see the oven from which our pizza emerged, but if they have a real deck oven, they're doin' it wrong...] We had an order of the Mississippi Delta Hot Tamales (something like $7.50 for 6), which came with saltine crackers and hot sauce. They were okay, albeit somewhat standard for steamed tamales. I have no idea what the purpose of the crackers was supposed to be. That's like getting beef jerky with your prime rib, but whatevs. This area seems to have an abundance of affection for tamales. The pizza (thin crust and not particularly cheap) was okay. We got a large for 3 people and I could have eaten the entire pie by myself. Not bad, but not spectacular. The toppings were plentiful enough and the sauce was sweeter than most, but tangy. They sprinkle some sort of oniony spice mix on top, which I could have done without. Good selection of bottled beers, which were $3.75 a pop, for the craft varieties. There were some draught taps behind the counter, but I didn't see those until I had had two bottles and my lady was shooting me eyeball daggers when I explored the possibility of procuring a frosty mug o' Goose Island. Two was enough, I guess. I drove all the way from Atlanta, so I deserved more, but I'll test their taps next visit. Nice staff, each and every one. They were very friendly and attentive. The place hasn't been open very long...2-3 weeks, I gather. If I had any constructive advice, I'd suggest lowering the lights in the joint. It was fresh and taste good but the cost was ridiculous for the portion size. I could have purchased a large pizza and pulled the crust off myself for what they charged. Here's the deal: The service here is okay. Not sharp, but okay. The prices would be too high if they were any more expensive, but they're fine as is. I would agree with George's assessment. I have been to the LP in Tupelo so I know that the pizza is top notch. Different flair than most pizza places and maybe that's another reason people don't "get it". Thin and thick crust alike are good so you have options. If you don't like a pre-concocted option you can create your own. Super friendly staff even commenting about an adult drink selection when I couldn't decide. Speaking of that, good standbys as well as some choices like Shiner you usually don't see. My wife and I have eaten here three times since it opened a few months ago. First, the food. We've had a pizza, a couple sandwiches, and a few of the pasta options. The pizza is just OK. Dave's Dark Horse, Old Venice and Papa Johns are in town and way better. The sauce isn't good at all. The overall taste is pretty bland and sour/bitter....I don't know...but not good. The sandwich was OK but it wasn't anything special. It wasn't quite hot and wasn't quite cold. The sandwiches next door at Firehouse are 1,000 times better, hands down. The pasta is just BAD! My wife was wanting alfredo as a craving during her pregnancy and I remembered they had it so we went to give the place one more try. There was way too much sauce and the sauce had a bad taste. It was worse than that which comes out of the jar at Walmart. She is not a picky eater but at two bites she pushed her plate to the side. I gave it a try and we were on the same page. Oh, and I can't leave out the toasted ravioli appetizer. It tasted like it was frozen. Not sure if it was or wasn't but that is what it tasted like. Now, to the atmosphere. They are going down the right path for the delta feel but come up just a little short. Overall it is a pretty relaxed feel though. The big window in the front and the mass-produced tables/booths are kinda odd. Some day it may grow into what it should be. At the end of the day here are my thoughts. I was excited when a new place was opening in Starkville. The name, the old truck outside, and their branding lead me to believe this place would be something special. I would recommend this place to someone looking for a good spot to try. I like there pizza because it is a thin crust and not to grease so it's not to heavy when you eat there or four pieces. The atmosphere was great, they have a good many TV's to allow for multiple game or events to be shown at once. They have a nice beer selection and we enjoyed bread sticks appetizer, pizza and the cinnamon sticks for desert. Like a said I think this is a good pizza joint. read more
