We went to Newk's specifically for pizza and weren't disappointed. We weren't familiar with the size and when we asked the counter person she willingly grabbed a pan to show us...perfect one person size so I ordered the five cheese and GET ordered pepperoni and sausage. My level of dissatisfaction with Newk's is ridiculously high right now. To the point I will NEVER buy food from there again. The only reason I'm posting this is to give others fair warning about their current policies before you also spend $45 and get ripped off. I bought two sandwich meals (with sides), two drinks (that of course don't come with the meal), and 2 desserts. Each meal was 12.99. On one meal I decided to upgrade to mac n cheese for an additional 2.89. All goes well until I go to put my to go bag in the car and a sauce container goes to fall out of the bag. Except no no. This is no cup of sauce. This is not the side of balsamic vinaigrette I asked for. This tiny cup is the "side of pasta salad" that came with my meal. I was so confused because these are the cups most places serve sides of ranch in. So I go in and say oopsie. I think you guys gave me the wrong size of pasta salad. This is maybe a child's size. The guy says no ma'am. That's the correct size that comes with the sandwich. I said wait a minute. This container fits in the size of my hand. It's maybe 2 bites. He said "it's 4 ounces which is what we normally serve". ???? I was just there a week ago and ordered the very same meal. This was not the size we were given. We got the paper cup of pasta salad. It's the same size that they serve the side of mac n cheese in. I told him this. He said no. The size I have is correct. I told him I'm supposed to feed this to a grown man. There's no way this is going to work. So then I ask if I can just return the pasta salad and pay the difference to upgrade to mac n cheese instead like I did with my other meal. So I should be paying $2.89 plus tax right? Wrong. It's now $4.99 for the same cup I already have with my other meal. Why I ask? Because the pasta salad I got is "free" with my meal. So my sandwich all by itself is $12.99. The side is complimentary. Never mind the fact they are charging $.179 for these "free" sides in the grab and go right next to me. Couldn't get credit on my purchase for returning my $1.79 retail value container of pasta. I just said whatever, I'll pay it and I just won't ever eat at Newk's again. Then I had to wait for them to "cook" my small cup of mac n cheese. It's not an entree. It doesn't have the bacon and shredded cheese on top and all that. It's flipping MACARONI in a paper cup! Yet I have to wait the same amount of time I did for my entire two meals to be presented with this one coveted container of mac n cheese. I think it's a sign I just need to stay home and cook our meals myself. I'm working 60 hours a week so I'm just a little tired and don't really want to cook after such long days, but clearly my money and time would be better spent. I've noted it and I'll do better. Again, just wanted to warn you all. If you're going to spend 35-45 bucks for 2 meals, spend it somewhere that values you, your time, and your money. I will add by the way that the staff was never rude to me. It's just the cheap business centered policies that don't sit well with me. Customers are the whole reason businesses even stay a business. Ripping people off especially in a time where it's so expensive to even get out and frequent these establishments in my opinion is a mistake. I eat at the Newk's near my house often so this was a safe bet for me in a town where I didn't know much about the food options. I had the grilled pimento cheese, seriously this should be illegal. It is tangy, gooey, cheesy goodness. The chicken tortilla soup was ok. There soups in general I would give a 3 star rating. Maybe I haven't found the right one yet. I really like the condiment bar. For someone that doesn't like sandwiches, this is beyond excellent. What makes them different from other joints is the sauce. The portions are huge, even the salads if you order a full size it feeds 2-3. Newk's Q is my favorite sandwich, and the lobster crab bisque my favorite soup. Always was a consistent go-to in Jackson and was again happy with our food and service in Starkville. My brother loves the NewksQ which is a signature bbq sandwich. I always order the Caesar salad- this time it was overdressed; I would ask for dressing on the side next go around. I also ordered a bowl of the crab and corn bisque- which was rue based and absolutely delicious. The bowl was honestly too large for lunch, unless that's all you're ordering. Not bad, actually. While I was surprised to see NJ prices in MS ($8+ for a sandwich?), they had a decent Broccoli Cheese soup. Their beef sandwich wasn't too exciting (too dry to be a good sandwich), and their deluxe pizza, while piled fresh ingredients, I could tell it just thrown together... the sauce lacked flavor beyond the vegetables (a lack of additional spices, perhaps spoiled too much by NYC and Chicago?). Reminds me of a local Panera, actually. It's a good simple cuisine in the local area. Lots of locals came... mostly women, and the portion size was actually relatively small compared to most of the area food locations (probably another reason why it was busy, too, helps keep people relatively fit compared with all the junk food options, fried food and BBQ in the area). read more

If you are looking for something fast, hot and deliciously dependable....This is your place!!! I have been sick for a couple of days and all I wanted was something basic and hot. I ordered a grilled cheese and chicken noodle soup. My co-worker ordered the peperoni pizza, which had crispy pepperonis and it was a good size for two meals! Stopped in while heading to Meridian. At first it reminded me of a McAllister's, but I'd have to say the food was a bit better. I went with the Grilled Chicken Sandwich, delicious. Fresh crisp bacon piled on top of nice juicy chicken breast smothered in sauce, two thumbs up. They even offer a "light" menu, which is tough to do when you're serving sandwich's. read more
