I am MADLY in love with the mad Italian!! A friend and I had dinner here last Sunday. Neither one of us had ever been here before so we were excited! We were immediately seated indoors but there was a super nice outdoor patio area. The inside of the restaurant is very spacious plus there is bar seating as well. Now on to the food! For an app we ordered cheese-bread. This cheese bread was phenomenal paired with an excellent marinara sauce! Good grief!!! We almost hurt ourselves with the appetizer! For my entree I ordered pastalaya ( view pics). This dish was beyond my expectations meaning it was delicious! I do not typically order pasta when I dine out. I'm so happy I ordered this dish because it was amazing!! I also had a glass of house Cabernet. It was a nice pour and went nicely with my pasta dish. Good, but most malls serve a better Cheesesteak. My partner and I split an order of Onion Rings, she got an Italian Sandwich, and I got the Cheesesteak. I made no alterations or changes, just got it as is. The Italian Sandwich looked good and she was super thrilled with it. In hindsight, I should have gotten that. My cheesesteak was very small. They use the proper roll as they claim, so I won't take that away. But it wasn't stuffed heavily at all. It had very little steak or substance to it. What was there was fine, but there just wasn't very much of it. The Chips are Ruffles which are fine, and I got Tots which were also good. Overall, I think I got a dud of a menu item, which is a bit depressing because they hype it so much. But maybe I should just get Italian food at an Italian restaurant? read more

Food is great. Service is "iffy". New prices are outrageous! 120 % increase in price of spaghetti!!! And, they said they did away with the side, the small and the medium spaghetti-- leaving only the $22 + dinner size. Very stupid move!!! Now you can't afford the dinner size, and you can't purchase a more reasonably priced, smaller entree! That alone will force me to forgo my 30-35 year favorite! But, I'm older, very sick with no chance of recovery, and I consider myself lucky to afford to make my turkey sandwiches and an orange once or sometimes twice a day. Haven't been awhile. Nothing wrong, except there's no Mad Italian near me. I used to be able to go to the restaurant in Chamblee where I lived til '96 and can't get out there anymore. You used to have a Mad Italian in the Windy Hill neighbourhood somewhere, but I guess it's gone. Maybe, I can get my family and friends to meet over at the Chamblee location since you've moved. My brother said he liked it; I used to go there with friends from St. Barnabas Anglican Church and my friend Sallie used to there quite a bit. We liked the Cannolli and salad mixes. I liked anything as long as it didn't have pork in it. Beef's ok, but I prefer poultry and fish these days. No imitation crab ot lobster, please! Some folks like me are allergic to the sugar alcohol in it and my dad died after eating it at a salad bar. read more

The Mad Italian is a solid lunch option and definitely was a good choice for lunch with a few business associates. I enjoyed the cheesesteak. I lived in Philadelphia for a while I just cannot compare to the great cheesesteaks in Philly and not have any of the great establishment in the City of Brotherly Love quaking in their boots, it still was not bad. The location is convenient to the highway and the service was friendly. We were also in and out in a decent amount of time. Both of these items are very important when considering a business lunch. Very disappointed. I bought the Big Daddy, as it is loaded with extra meet, cheese and onions. I received a wet-mess that was over-loaded with black pepper. So much juice that I couldn't pick it up. The bun was soggy from the grease. Whomever made this sandwich needs to be retrained on how to make a Philly. On a lighter note, the pickle was crisp and the chips (from a bag) were plentiful. I've been to this place a few times and may have ever done a review in past but let's talk about today. First yes it was busy we got in just in time and was there really for soup for lunch. That being said just cause you order soup the staff should learn doesn't mean your tip will reflect that, meaning if I order a 10 dollar soup I'm not gonna leave you only 2 bucks or 2.50. We were seated fairly quickly. But then had to wait about 8 to 10 minutes before somebody came to take a drink order. We placed a drink, order, a water, a soda and one item from the bar. It was shortly after that which we placed our lunch order it was two bowls of soup, and an order of their as they call it chips, and Italian dip. Took a rather long amount of time as I am sure the soup is just back there in vats in the warming area and the chips did not need to be cooked and I from the looks of it the dip came pre-packaged from the restaurant in small containers three of them come with an order of the chips. One order of pasta, E Fazul, soup, one order of cheddar and broccoli soup, and one order of chips with Italian dip was our lunch. The cheddar and broccoli soup was a lot thinner than at other establishments and overall was mediocre at best. The pasta Fazul soup appear to be lacking beans as there were some beans in it, but I feel the soup like that in the back everything settles to the bottom and they should figure out a better distribution plan because I would say the soup was 90% broth then with a little beans and a little pasta. The real losing factor was what they taught as a famous Italian dip and chips, which the best I can make of it is ruffles potato chips or some brand similar and mayonnaise with Italian seasoning in it, maybe this just is not for my pallet but it really seem to be lacking. There was very little effort to check on us and again I know it was two soups for lunch so we weren't a priority but it would've been nice to get a drink refill or something along those lines is there anything you could bring us etc. from the staff. All in all I have had really good interactions and meals at this place. However, this one just fell short of the mark will I return yes because they do have a really good cheesesteak. Will I return for soup and chips and Italian dip no all in all it's worth going there just know that it can be hit or miss from times. read more

I'd eaten here a few times over the years, but, when we ate here in mid-October, this was overall my least favorite experience ever at The Mad Italian. We came here on a Sunday night at around 7 pm. Parking was easy to find; The Mad Italian has its own free parking lot, and the restaurant wasn't full. The restaurant was about 3/4 of customers. Service was slow and awful. In the current state of the pandemic, this restaurant didn't let us know before we were seated that there was a staffing shortage, and we were expecting great service just like had experienced in the past. Thinking back, it looked like they had enough servers to cover all parts of the restaurant, so I'm going to say that our server was just overall bad. It took him about 10 minutes to acknowledge us AFTER we asked another employee who our server was. He made rare cameo appearances mostly after we asked another server to locate him for us. The food was also overall bad. It took about 30 minutes for our food to be served AFTER we ordered. I had ordered lasagna, which came with toasted French bread. I have to say that the toasted French bread was delicious, but that was the only highlight of this meal. My lasagna was poorly presented, and looked like it was put together by someone who had no clue as to what lasagna should've looked like. The lasagne (the pasta sheets) were crispy on all edges. I've never ever been served lasagne in that condition - crispy and dry. The consistency of the lasagne was that of a thoroughly dried out flour tortilla. Cheese was melted on top, but had pooled only in the middle. There was sauce that had bubbled over, probably while it was in the microwave, and, strangely, was only poured on/in both ends of the oval dish. If you think I'm making all of this up, just look at my pic of the "lasagna." Oh, and my dish wasn't the only bad one. R had to send back his meal because the penne noodles in the middle of his dish were cold (like straight out of the refrigerator cold), with the outer penne noodles being hot (like straight out of the microwave hot). Amazing that the food would be served like that! R's salad was limp, like it was in the refrigerator too long, or had been exposed to freezing temperatures and then served . The last time I visited this place was about five years ago, but I had such a fond memory of it that me & my roommate decided to check this place out for a late lunch. We visited on a Friday afternoon -- it was past lunch hour so it was a bit empty, and we were seated promptly. I did not know they served such a wide selection of draft beer! I was so pleasantly surprised and it was a sign for happy hour. I ordered the 6 inch philly cheesesteak and subbed out the chips for tater tots and I also ordered a draft angry orchard. As expected, the philly cheesesteak tasted amazing. They add (I believe) a slight layer of mayo at the bottom for an even enhanced taste. If you feel that it's a little too heavy, then you can add the pepper flakes at the table or ask for jalapeño to easen the heaviness a bit. My friend ordered a chicken pasta and he was satisfied with his meal overall as well. Most importantly, the server kept checking on us to make sure everything was okay and she was extremely attentive & kind, which is always a plus. I'm glad the taste didn't change at all from 5 years ago - I live right down the street and I plan on visiting here a little more often. read more

Both times ordered food to go. It's always packed. I highly recommend their cheesesteak. It's solid. No craziness, bells and whistles. Just straight forward cheese, steak (well seasoned) and onions I think. I wish they grilled the bread. It feels like store bought bread out the bag (no heat or grill with melted butter to it). This go round in addition to their cheesesteak, felt adventurous. I got their pineapple jerk chicken wings (the seasoning is everything but the chicken wings are fried naked then they sprinkle some dry rub seasoning on it. It's a no go for me. Maybe if I ask them to put extra seasoning but no. I had to dip it in Ranch then scrape the seasoning from the bottom of the container to enjoy it. Otherwise you are consuming a fried naked, bland chicken wing. No salt and pepper even. Also ordered the mozza bread. Not a fan. It's the same bread they use for the cheesesteaks. It's a LOT OF cheese and I'm not afraid of the type of mozzarella they used. The garlic spices and seasoning wasn't anything to write home about. I ate half the appetizer and threw the rest in the trash. Also ordered the chicken Parmesan sub for fettuccini Alfredo. Which was OK! They use the same mozzarella from the mozzarella bread which I didn't care for. The cheese reminds me of the same one you'd find on school cafeteria pizza. Is it bad? No. Just not my preference and I have definitely had better. Would I order it again? Nah. Will just stick to their philly cheesesteaks. They have different speciality nights each weekday, with the option for drive through takeout or dine in. My favorite is the fettuccine alfredo, yummmmmmm. They do close a little earlier than your typical restaurant, but they aren't a huge operation. They also have outside seating that is perfect for a warm day outside! Best cheesesteak in Atlanta for years, if you can get one. I post thus review because I doubt the owners know about this: 2:00 on a Saturday afternoon. Three of us walk in, no one waiting. The host told us it would be a 10 to 15 minute wait. I noticed four 4 top tables and four 2 tops . I asked what about them? A server/manager (?) then said they were about to seat a 10 top in that room. I then looked at both sides of the place and counted seven 4 tops plus high top seats at a long table and asked about them. THEN the host said the kitchen was too busy so they could not seat anyone else for now. I suggested they seat us and others and sell us alcohol while he waited. He them said, "Are you trying to tell me how to do my job?" So, I had to say, "Yes I am." That was that as we voted with our feet to go somewhere else.
