I ordered a 10 inch sub and wanted lettuce and tomato on it plus switching french fries for onion rings. I had water to drink when I got my bill. It was $23. They charged me a dollar for lettuce a dollar for tomatoes and four dollars up charge for the onion rings which that was not told about. This was my first time here and it won't be my last! A friend took me here to have wings.... at an Italian place?? I'm glad she did, because they were so delicious and flavorful. The habanero flavor was my favorite! It had a sweet taste at first and then a heat that crept up on you. Lots of hot wings are just hot and no flavor but these weren't. The jalapeño ranch was also very tasty and gave a little relief from the spice of the habanero flavor. They also have a great selection of beers on tap. read more

Terrible service, ok food not worth the bad service. My friend and I arrived about 1230 on a beautiful afternoon and asked to be seated on the patio. The hostess hemmed and hawed, and said she'd "have find someone willing to wait on you" on the patio. There were at least four other parties on the (very nice) patio, which I brought to her attention. She literally rolled her eyes and agreed to do her actual job and find a server to wait on us on the patio. We were seated, waiter took our orders and the meal was brought out promptly and hot by a different server, and slammed down on the table. I asked for ketchup, she said "sure" , and stomped off, never to be seen again. When our waiter showed back up, I asked again for ketchup, he brought it immediately, and then we never saw him again until it was time for the check. I have been eating at this place for at least 15 years now. I no longer live in Atlanta, and I still return to the Mad Italian every time I'm back in town with my mom, without fail. The best cheesesteak I have had in my life, period. Even better than Pat's in Philadelphia in my opinion (I seriously drove to Philadelphia just for the cheesesteak, and it still didn't quite measure up to the one here--although they were hard to directly compare). Pleasantly surprised by service and food despite some of the reviews I read. John & Linda were great and my food was tasty. Had a board dinner meeting scheduled there last Thursday, and decided to peruse menu on line to avoid delays with ordering. Really wanted a calzone to appease my inner Italian, but nixed due to excessive yummy cheese (dairy is not recommended when congested) and lack of filling options listed. *Please note that a person in my party got one and there were more options to add other than menu list. Unfortunately, the pastalya had pork sausage in addition to shrimp and chicken I wanted. Had a plan B, which was the Pasta Diavola which was penne with spicy chunk tomato sauce. Added a side of garlic shrimp and enjoyed immensely. The pasta e figioli soup was ok, but not the best I've had. The pasta definitely was the high note. Had a nice spicy kick and very flavorful. As previously mentioned, service was great. Linda was especially accommodating and seemed to be everywhere doing everything! UPDATE: Even though the food at The Mad Italian hasn't changed, the location has. They recently moved from 2197 Savoy to 2089 Savoy, which is literally right down the street. This building used to be Allure Lounge right next to the Taco Bell. The Atmosphere: This is a much better location than the previous as it is much more spacious, has a larger outdoor eating area, and has a huge bar. I can definitely see myself coming here for a drink, as opposed to the previous location. The inside seems similar to a sports bar, which several bar tables and flat screen TV's all over. The Food: On this visit, I wasn't really that hungry, but for some reason, I was at home craving their wings. I ordered 12 wings ($11.99) tossed in Gold & Hot sauce to-go. Best wings and sauce combination! What is Hot/Lemon Pepper anymore?! Outside of the flavor, the texture of the wings are a perfect crisp. I'm big on texture and these wings were just how I like them. Overall, The Mad Italian hasn't lost their touch whatsoever. This move quite possibly doubled their business as the parking lot is usually completely PACKED when I drive by now. I am on a mission to visit local spots that I shamefully haven't visited close to home. First, I love the simple decor and overall modern look and feel of Mad Italian We went on a Monday and we were greeted quickly by the host and asked if we wanted to sit on the side they were having trivia night on. We declined, but everyone seemed to be having a good time. The staff were all wearing masks, tables were spaced out, and I saw tables being wiped multiple times. We ordered an appetizer of onion rings for $7.99 and unfortunately I was not impressed. If you are going to serve basic onion rings that any of us can get from the freezer section, please make sure they aren't refried and chewy. I also ordered a side of spaghetti with meat sauce for $3.49 and that was strike 2. That spaghetti was so bland and tasteless I thought about asking them to take it off my ticket, you can't call yourself the Mad Italian and serve bland spaghetti. For our entrees I had the chicken cheesesteak in a size super with a side of chips for $12.49 and I was not impressed. There was so much cheese on it, it overpowered the taste of the chicken. So, basically I had a cheese sandwich. The bread was decent and the chips were just basic potato chips, all in all this was a thumbs down for me and a waste of money. My boyfriend had a cheesesteak in a big daddy size for $16.48 and he said it was pretty decent, despite the bone shards, and not something he would come back for. All in all this was a flop for me, it was tasteless and bland. The service was decent and the sweet tea was the only good thing about my meal. This place feels as though none of the food is made with love and it all comes from the freezer/jar. I will not come back unless the quality of the food changes and if that means charging more so be it. read more

This used to be one of my favorite spots when I lived in the area. I was craving the lasagna so decided to take the drive. I reached out in advance to make sure they were practicing social distancing and they were. I was seated immediately and realized they definitely removed some of the tables to ensure distancing, which made me feel good. I also noticed that the staff was pretty thorough with cleaning. While there, we were assisted by a few people. Everyone was helpful and professional. I had the lasagna with garlic bread. The lasagna wasn't a good as I remembered but was still tasty. Then you have to stand over a patron eating/drinking at the bar, waiting to be noticed so you may place your order. You finish waiting awkwardly close to this person as the bartender finishes taking, places, and cashing out your order. The bathroom is very clean though. The Taco Bell next door was putting some smelly stuff and it made outside unpleasant. Took so long i had to check in the food. Once the onion rings came they were great. The beer batter was so good there was a small hint of beer which was very good. Cheese stale was very overrated but still very good. This new location just opened and Mark and I decided to give it a try. We had dined sporadically at the previous location down the street and had generally good to great experiences. What we liked- plenty of free well lit parking. The building and interior are fresh and new and decorated nicely for a family restaurant. The staff seems enthusiastic and friendly and it showed in the service. The dining area was clean and spacious with comfortable seating. Our appetizer, salads and entrees were generous in portions size and a good value for the price. The tomato sauce on my ravioli seemed different from the original location. It was a little bland and could have used more garlic or Italian seasoning. The wine was well priced and tasty. Overall a good experience we do plan to return!! read more

I have been to the Mad Italian a handful of times since my last review. I've never been happier to update a review. These guys have knocked it out of the park, even handling me and a big table full of rowdy-first responders with zero problems. Good show, Mad Italian! I have memories of the Mad Italian dating back to 1986 when they had multiple Atlanta locations, including a great one near Peachtree Battle. The Mad Italian there is where I first learned about the greatness of what a cheese-steak sandwich could be. Mad Italian cheese-steaks are like an old friend, except you eat them. Quantities of grilled steak and exactly the right amount of white-American cheesy goodness with (sometimes) some onions & mushrooms thrown into a perfect roll, to boot. Delicious. Hands down delicious. You say this isn't the same as the thing you had in Philly? I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of how happy I am. (And the Chicken Penne is a recently discovered favorite, too.) Service has been consistently as good as the food, of late. Friendly people who are completely unpretentious with you about why you're there and the food you're about to eat. Good stuff, through and through. They know what they do, and they do it well. I know what they do, and I appreciate it. When I go to the The Mad Italian, I don't expect tablecloths and a wine list. I do expect friendly servers, really good food, fast service, and a glass of water that never empties. And that's what I get. Capice? I'll happily be going back to the Mad Italian. Honestly, 3 stars is generous. I ordered pasta Alfredo with garlic shrimp. I don't know what was in the "Alfredo" sauce, but whatever it was, it was awful. I think they're trying too hard to be unique. If you wanna throw every spice you can think of into a sauce, please just call it "Mad Italian" sauce or something. Just because it isn't a red sauce doesn't make it Alfredo. Also, there was no trace of garlic in the shrimps and they were pretty much raw. It should have been a hint to the cook that the flesh was translucent and not white. It was served with bread that had no garlic butter, but just a little pile of their spice mix. My stepdaughter had the penne chicken. It was unmemorable, with a pretty plain red sauce containing no garlic, basil, or oregano that I could detect. The only reason I'm giving 3 stars instead of 2 is that my husband's calzone was pretty good. read more

I was extremely underwhelmed by my experience here. We went in last Sunday around 4pm. It was not very busy. I liked the ambiance of the place. We sat in the bar area where there were tvs and one happened to be showing a game I was interested in watching. Our server has a lot to do with why our experience was less than stellar. She had no personality at all and seemed a bit annoyed with any questions. They keep the utensils in a container on the tables, but ours only had knives in it. I ordered the lasagna and when it was served to me, I could not begin eating right away. So I called for the waitress and she seemed annoyed and told me she'll be right there. Meanwhile, my food sits. When she gets around to me, I'm annoyed now and I tell her that I can't eat because I don't have a fork. So I wait on her to go get a fork. When she comes back with two forks, she puts them in the container instead of giving one to me. Like, really? An utter and complete turn off. My lasagna, while generous with the cheese, was salty and lacked robust tomato flavor. Also, I was served burnt bread (see photo). I don't mind burnt bread, but she didn't know that and it shouldn't have been served to me. At least two or three people handled that plate and nobody thought that maybe the bread was not okay. My companion ordered the cheese steak and he said it was pretty good. Also, I find something wrong with children sitting at any bar. I just do. I don't think there are any laws against it or whatever, but it's just one of those things where some discernment ought to be in effect. There were children sitting at the bar. One was about 4 or 5 and the other was around two. It was unsightly. If I could do a review on the parents, I would, but this is about the restaurant. Most restaurants (that I've been to) have a house rule against anyone under 21 sitting at the bar and it is posted. Not so here. Not only is it not a good look, but if I wanted to sit at the bar and enjoy a meal with a glass of wine and I saw that, I would immediately hit the door. If someone was adamant that I return here, I would try the cheese steak. Aside from that, I see no reason to come back here when I have so many other options available to me. read more

It was all good until I ordered my cheesesteak and hair was on it. Once I see hair on my food I lose my appetite. I just can't eat anything after that anytime soon. So they offered to remake I didn't want it so my boyfriend said he would take it. So I ordered a beer and some how there's hair in my beer!!! Now at this point I'm irritated cause now I'm feeling like nothing here is clean and no one is wearing hair nets in the back. So she offers to bring another beer, whatever. So we get the receipt and nothing was comp'd. Not the cheesesteak nor the beer. Which was very saddening and poor customer service. For that reason, we would not be back. read more

Great food, great staff, in a loud, noisy madding environment. They have metal chairs that customers & staff drag and bang on the cement floor. You cannot move the chair with out it sounding like nails on a chalk board. There is nothing to absorb the sound with the cement floor, large glass windows and a high metal ceiling. Most restaurants have stylish noise absorbing panels on the walls. New quiet chairs and sound absorbing panels are in order. read more

The Mad Italian is one of those restaurants that you see often and wonder why you haven't stopped by. I checked them out on Yelp and the food looked delicious, so I decided to give it a try. Right now, they have the takeout situation set up to where you call in your order, wait about 15 mins and drive up to a tent on the side of the restaurant where you will pay for your food and it gets brought out to you. This is all due to COVID-19. I ordered the Pastalaya and the Grilled Chicken Alfredo, both coming with a 6-inch buttery garlic roll. You can chose between the lunch serving or the dinner serving, the dinner costing more because more food. I chose the dinner option for both. They both cost a little over $16 each. The staff was friendly and prompt when it came to bringing my food out, and it smelled DELICIOUS. Both dishes were great. The pasta was cooked to my liking and the meat in both were tender and juicy. I will say the chicken Alfredo was a little under seasoned, but I still enjoyed it. The Pastalaya was fantastic. Beware, the dinner serving is enough for two people, but of course I ate one by myself hehe. Will be returning :) read more
