As a life-long LA resident I was thrilled when I finally knew someone who could get me in. What a profound disappointment I had. The shows were great but so much felt like a huge, pretentious money gouge. The constant tip-asking at every step (when I pay the entrance fee?!!), a sub-par prime rib (worst I've ever had for $62, and even the horseradish didn't help it), $5 sodas, $20 cocktails, $45 polyester tie (my husband forgot his), and constant waiting for shows so they could sell you more expensive cocktails. The bathrooms didn't even have seat covers in them. Waste of $300+ dollars. read more

A visit to the Magic Castle is an one-of-a-kind experience that is a hybrid between Disneyland and stage theater. Everything is over-the-top formal and the smell of Old Money is pervasive. The exclusivity and secrecy add to the feeling that we're experiencing something forbidden. Right at the lobby, your entrance set the tone for the evening by gaining admission via a hidden door after uttering an incantation. Once inside, it felt like a time wrap with a trip to the 1920's or earlier. The decor was elegant if not ancient, which added to the mystique of the place. The staff directing and attending to the guests was engaging and courteous. The servers at the restaurant were equally impressive. We thought the servers were magicians-in-training, but our server told us that there's no magic while dining. The food was good. I ordered the Chilean sea bass, and my wife tried the eggplant (vegan). All the items cost twice as much compared to a non-magical restaurant. Perhaps this is how the money in your credit card account magically vanishes. We were able to catch four magical shows. I enjoyed the intimate setting of close-up magic the most. The magicians varied in quality. Some of them actually seemed nervous to me, even though they're very experienced and adept at performing their tricks. If you live in LA, there's no excuse to miss this experience. You must know a magician friend who is a member of the club to get invited. Dress code is very strict. Also no phones inside, only in the lobby area where you say the magic word and the door magically opens on its own. Went during October 2023, so the castle was decked out in Halloween decorations, very cool. This is an invite only establishment or if you are a member. Must dress very formal. The atmosphere inside the Magic Castle is steeped in history and charm. The Victorian-style mansion exudes an air of mystery and elegance, making you feel like you've stepped into a different era. The decor and ambiance alone are worth the visit. If you book a dinner reservation that automatically gives you priority seating to the Main Show. Now, let's talk about the magic! The magicians at the Magic Castle are some of the best in the world. The performances I witnessed were absolutely mind-boggling. From card tricks that left me questioning the laws of physics to grand illusions that had me on the edge of my seat, each magician's act was a masterclass in sleight of hand and showmanship. The close-up magic in the various parlors was particularly impressive, and it felt like a personalized experience. Appearing coins out of thin air is the best and makes you speechless. One of the best parts of the Magic Castle is that the magic happens all around you. There are multiple performance spaces and rooms throughout the castle, ensuring that you're never far from a captivating act. It's like a labyrinth of enchantment, and you never know what surprise awaits you around the next corner. The staff at the Magic Castle is incredibly accommodating and knowledgeable. Ended up ordering two of there famous dishes, one was the Beef Wellington and the other was the Banana Cream Pie. The Beef Wellington was phenomenal, first time having it, cooked to perfect and the demi glace sauce was fantastic, came with slices potatoes as well, also very good. The Banana Cream Pie slice was way bigger than I imagined it to be, what a way to end the dinner, so rich and tasty, it's a must have. Place is very pricey, but you get what you pay for, I can't recommend the Magic Castle enough. This is one of the most exclusive and coolest places you can check out. You have to know a member or a friend whom gets you a pass but this place is worth it! Make all your magic dreams come true! When you walk in the ambiance is perfect with pictures of performers adoring the walls, and a giant bar welcoming you in (after you walk thru the bookcase door). You have to wear a tie by the way to get in! The shows were the most amazing we had ever seen worth every single moment spent there. We also booked at the restaurant and their food is absolutely worth it. The service is attentive and the food is delicious and filing. And the drinks are a delight. Visited here last night for my boyfriend's birthday... entry was $100 (not bad for entertainment!!) The staff is super friendly, if you get a birthday button the staff says happy birthday throughout the castle if they see it. But the food bill was like 212$ Which is really a meat and potatoes vibe.. it feels like an unfinished meal. (Salmon, shrimp cocktail, one sangria, and lamb was our order) The birthday icecream was a nice touch, but also the lowest maintenance as possible. Which is fine it's free... But I can't get over the dinner being priced so high and being so mediocre. Everyone agrees. Unless you add a side for an extra 20$ .. and 32$ gratuity is kind of steep considering the service. They were very busy so I get it, and our waitress was lovely.. but she was preoccupied with a larger table so it felt we sat there longer than expected considering prices. I had the lamb... If you go down to murrietta the cove has better lamb lollipops to die for at a very affordable price!! (I dream of their affordable lamb lollipops!!) 60$ for what you get was just insane. Magic castle was cool.. but it was a bit frustrating.. idk if they were over crowded but the free roaming was starting to test my birthday boys patience! And my heels were killing me going in circles, the free roaming experience was not likeable. I think if they just did all the shows in certain orders the experience would have been much more enjoyable. I was soooo ready to leave by the time we left, thank god the last show we went to was the best show. It was fun over all, but food cost insane.. and it felt a bit unorganized. I came here with a group of friends and it was a unique experience. The small magic shows were entertaining and the staff was very friendly. We couldn't see all the shows because it got full fast so that was a shame. For the main show, it was okay but I expected more and it felt more like a "circus". My friends and I saw a string or two in the origami show since we sat on the side and the stage lights highlighted the string. Besides that, the origami show was unique. I found the smaller shows to be more intimate and entertaining. The castle tour guide was super nice and she provided great insights on the history of the property. Going in, we already knew the food was expensive as it's around $40 per entree and each person has to order one. The food was okay. Nothing too special. The good thing is you can take your food to go if you don't finish it. The place is quite expensive and you have to make sure you line up early for the shows. Fantastic experience! The valet staff were helpful and one of them took our photos outside the castle (NO PHOTOS INSIDE). You have to be a guest of one of the many magicians who are members of the magic club, be over 21, and make a reservation months in advance. We got our invitation because my husband volunteered for a magician's show at our public library fundraising gala this year. They'll check your ID at the door, valet parking is $30, and there's a specific formal dress code. It's fun to get dressed up and have somewhere to go! The Magic Castle is a truly mysterious, dreamlike place, with so many nooks and crannies, multiple showrooms where magic takes place, several bars and lots of places to sit and chat as you wait in line for the shows to start. Dinner was an adventure itself! Carissa was our knowledgeable and entertaining server. The Hamachi sushi appetizer melted in your mouth (Carissa's awesome recommendation) and the brussel sprouts tasted delicious! I ordered an 8oz filet mignon which came with little potatoes and a tasty dipping sauce. The Magic Manhattan was a drink that arrived with a bubble of smoke on top--magical indeed! We wanted dessert too (the banana cream pie is made on site and had a Nutter Butter crust), but we didn't want to miss the first show. We experienced two close up shows and one larger show at the end. The audience was sometimes just as amusing and entertaining as the magicians. First let's get the negative out of the way. We were required to order 1 entree per person and the pricing definitely takes advantage of this. The shrimp scampi cost only slightly less than the filet minon and was good not great or anything special. My husbands filet minon was cooked perfectly though and the whipped potatoes were delicious! Other than that, had a very enjoyable evening of stage and up close magic in small groups. A couple tricks were classics but there were some truly amazing tricks as well that I chose to enjoy and not try to figure out! Highly recommend visiting if you have the opportunity!! Dress code is on their website and is strict so please check ahead! Really fun time! I was invited by one of my students, who is a member of the junior society and I went for brunch. I waited on line to get in and there were a LOT of kids (just be aware of that if you go for brunch!). But that didn't bother me. Once I got it, I waited a little bit in the lobby (the only place where photos are allowed) and then I got to go in! It is VERY crowded and they will herd you around from magic room to magic room, then to brunch, and then to the main major magic rooms. It's hard to break away from the pack. But I did get an impromptu tour from one of the volunteers, who is a longtime member, and I loved it because I love trivia and tours! After a few sips we headed upstairs to the dining room. Our host sat us at a lovely 4 top in a private corner. Rich or Ricky as Rosie decided to call him, welcomed us and gave us a few minutes to look at the menu which was pricey and basic. Nothing made this foodie do a happy dance so I ordered the sea bass which came with 3 very small potatoes. *Every entree is Al a carte sides are extra. I shared a wedge salad with the hubby and grilled asparagus. He got the filet mignon, Rosie, Beef Wellington, her hubby also got the Sea Bass. **Bill came to $371 plus tip. I love the opportunity to dress up (you can never be too dressy here) and the vintage classy feel of the place. Wow, how did they do that? That was the phrase you hear, constantly throughout all of The Magic Castle (TMC). Starting with the way you are privileged to enter TMC, it is not open to the public and you have to be invited by a member of TMC. Making reservations is easy once you receive an official invitation for brunch or dinner. You are given times that are open. You must provide a credit card number to hold the reservation and if you don't show, your card is charged. For dinner no show, the charge is $70 per person. Make sure you have it on your cell phone calendar and for those who are attending with you. TMC will send you a text, the morning of your reservation, but then it is too late to cancel so suck it up, Buttercup. When you receive your reservation confirmation, you receive links to the rules to abide by, the strict dress code and the menu. Cell phones must be silenced and no pics nor videos are allowed inside past the registration reception room. No selfies, no foodie pics, not even in the restrooms. None, nada. Dress code is no joke. Men must wear ties. Women should be dressed up. No jeans, Logo clothing, Midriffs showing, tennis shoes. We witnessed a man stopped at the door for his black skinny jeans and no tie. He was sent to the Hollywood/Highland Mall to purchase the correct attire. Another man, inside TMC, was stopped and reprimanded because he took off his tie once he got inside. Big no no!! Big brother is watching!! Check the website for the fees. Valet parking is $25. Entertainment fee is $45 in the evenings, lower for brunch. For dinner, you are required to purchase an entree that starts at $45 and goes up. I hear all the steaks, prime rib, Beef Wellington are top notch. Everything else is a la carte - bread, appetizers, sides, coffee and dessert. Valet parking is suggested because TMC is up a hill and climbing up the hill can be strenuous, especially in heels. Doors open at 5 but it takes time to process in everyone due to the dress code attire check and registration/payment before you are released to roam TMC. Our dinner reservation was at 6 but we wanted to arrive early to catch a show or two. Ha ha, nice plan, eh? As you are waiting in line to get in, there is a larger cooler near the valet parking podium. The glass door cooler has small TMC water bottles. I asked one of the parking attendants how I can pay for the water bottle and he said "just help yourself!" It's labeled with TMC, but then you have to carry it around. There is a photo opp screen to take pics before you enter. Inside reception, you pay for your valet parking and entering fee. You are told when you have completed your meal, the server will give you your tickets to the main show in the Palace of Mystery. It is the largest room and that show is 45 mins featuring 3 separate acts. Another photo opp in front of the fire place. The magic shop is also adjacent to reception. You then stand by the bookshelves and say the magic words of "OPEN SESAME." Once in, their are bars through TMC and you are free to roam around. You are given a schedule that has a map to help/hinder you. The map is not very magical and is lacking. Missing rooms as well as showing stairs where they are not in existence or may be invisible, who knows. You will receive a text message as a reminder of your dinner reservation. Dinner was wonderful. Extensive bar menu and dinner menu. I had the Beef Wellington and my friend had the Vegan Rigatoni. I loved mine but my friend said the Rigatoni was lukewarm. The plates came out pretty quickly. The magicians at every show were wonderful. The entertainment changes every week so you'll never know who will be performing. I think it is virtually impossible to see all shows in one evening. We arrived at 5 when the doors opened and we stayed until 1 and we still didn't see everything. We did, however, met a group who were friends with a magician who was not performing but did magic while we waited over an hour for one popular magician. That magician sort of adopted us too and invited us to an impromptu show he was doing for the group he was with. There were 10 of them so it was a very intimate group and we were aboutthisclosetohim when he was doing his tricks. Even being practically on top of him, we were screaming with amazement as the magic unfolded. Another magician, also not performing that night shared a little of his magic. Unbelievable!!! They are all so good at their craft. The last show we caught was at 12:30. The MC asked if we were hot and then brought us ice cold TMC water bottles!! They were so accommodating. The next day was a school day and we knew we would pay for our lack of sleep, but this truly was a great evening. So happy we secured an invitation, saw our friend perform, had a great meal, and was dazzled by the wizards of magic. We will be back!! You have to invited by a friend, member or magician to come! I've been lucky enough to attend 2 different times, both for dinner. You're given tickets to one show at dinner, and then you're free to roam around and check in on different rooms and find different shows. The magic is phenomenal, you immediately are transported in to another world when you step inside. I love the charm and old Hollywood feel you get. Be sure to adhere to the dress code and dress well! You can take photos inside, but you can outside on their red carpet. Dinner was good, I had a chicken and a pasta dish on my visits. I enjoyed the meal (it is costly, but it's an experience) there is an initial fee to enter as well. I don't recall when I paid for the valet parking. Overall something everyone in La should do! Families are welcome on Sundays for brunch - otherwise it's adults only. Drinks are strong and delicious, I would suggest getting a drink downstairs when you walk in! My third time at the Castle and still one of my favorite places to visit. The food, the wonder, the magic! Unfortunately, my friend fell ill, and I was unable to enjoy the Castle as I had in the past, but this experience was still amazing. While she was trying to find Ibuprofen, I was sitting at the front bar, enjoying a drink, and little did I know I was sitting next to a magician. I wish I could recall his name; he was a truly gentlemanly person. We sat back laughing and enjoying ourselves, talking about the Castle, how he grew up around magic, and the joy it has brought to his life. If you ever get invited to The Magic Castle, go. Cancel your plans. Quit your job. This place is like Disneyland for adults, but with martinis, velvet curtains, and magicians who may or may not have made a deal with the devil. You don't just walk in, you say a password to a bookshelf, and it opens like you're entering a secret society. Immediately, you're surrounded by people who look like magicians, magician's assistants, or recently-divorced magician spouses out for revenge. The dress code is no joke. Jackets, glamour, and vintage vibes only. I felt like a noir film widow, and it was fabulous. The magic? Mind blowing. I saw a man pull a card out of a locked box inside a grapefruit. A woman guessed someone's childhood pet's name. I stared hard enough to melt a playing card and still had no clue how they did it. The castle is a maze of different showrooms, parlors, theaters, and tiny lounges where close-up magic feels too close. You're just wandering from room to room getting your mind blown over and over. The bar? Strong pours. Friendly bartenders. And dinner was actually good, filet mignon, truffle fries, and a dessert that came with dry ice smoke like a wizard plated it himself. No photos allowed, which is tragic because I looked incredible and also may have fallen in love with a magician who disappeared before I could get his number. Dress up. Drink up. This is an exclusive venue. You must know someone to gain access. Either you go with a Member or the Member gives you a pass. Reservations are recommended. If you go with a Member, the entrance fee is waived. If you don't, I believe the price is $45 a person. The website will tell you more details. Parking is very simple, $30 valet You are allowed to get into the venue before your reservation time. I highly recommend that you do because there are magic shows throughout the place! Your dinner reservation also comes with a show! Our dinner reservation was at 8pm, we arrived at 6pm. Our show was at 10pm. It was about a 45 minute show that flew by! However, by the time we finished and got home, it was 1215am. Just to give you a rough idea. Attire is strictly enforced if you go! Women, no matter how long your dress is, they can still see the type of shoe you are wearing. My guest happened to wear some sort of sandal and thought she can get away with wearing a super long dress. She got pulled aside and was told what happened and the venue had ballerina flats available for her to purchase. They held onto her sandals until we were ready to leave. Men must wear a complete suit - coat, shirt and tie/booties, and slacks with dress shoes. Absolutely no photos can be taken inside the venue!!! It was beautiful and you can ask anyone to give a tour of the Castle. Every floor you are on has a bar. Along with an entrance fee, everyone must order an Entree. And the prices can range $$-$$$. I had 5 guests in my party and gratuity was added to our final bill. Since we weren't able to take pictures, the best I can do is say what we ordered. Filet mignon, 2 prime ribs, Australian wagyu, and lamb were the main entrees. Mashed potato's, cokes, water, sparkling for beverages. Dessert was not ordered because we were full. However, it was my birthday so I was able to get a scoop of an amazing vanilla bean ice cream with fresh berries! It was an amazing experience and if anyone ever offers you a chance, take it! First time here and was a great experience. The dress code is really strict so make sure that read online what they do and don't allow. The food is $$$ and while good, it's not anything crazy for the price. Drinks were good though. The highlight was the magic shows. They were really good! I would recommend lining up early to shows. If you were fortunate enough to get an invite to go here, definitely take it. It is such a fun place. The environment is amazing and the shows are incredible. We didn't sit for dinner, but we had cocktails and appetizers which were delicious. It was very crowded so we had to wait a bit for our food and to order a drink, but that was not an issue as the environment was so fun that you didn't mind. read more
