Super cute local cafe in this mountain town. Had really what I wanted to eat, something tasty with a good cup of coffee. Unfortunately I didn't find it first. Lots of people hanging out having cafe society. Enjoyed a double almond macchiato at the perfect temperature. Love the chalkboard menu, I'm a sucker for that! The people here are so friendly and the coffee was great! I loved the outdoor seating area. We were just in town for a wedding and needed a quick cup of coffee, so we walked down, ordered and enjoyed it outside under the tree canopy (despite the rain). We went to Maia Papaya while we were in The White Mountains for our honeymoon. As the only vegetarian restaurant for miles around, we were excited to find an oasis amongst a lot of meatie places. As vegans, we were very disappointed. First, what kind of vegetarian breakfast place does not have a scramble on the menu or tofu in general? We asked about the vegan options and were told, "The granola is vegan." There was also no soy milk out for coffee- just dairy options- and no vegan baked goods. Our only food option was some kind of salad and hummus wrap, which we had to fortify with a side of black beans since there was barely any hummus in it. We asked the person working there if they only offered wheat wraps, and she practically threw the menu at me, saying "here are our wraps", misunderstanding my question. So if you're vegetarian and not vegan, this place might be okay, but we wouldn't know. read more

I stopped here on my never ending far flung travels to find the most eclectic coffee joint going. The Maia Papaya in 'downtown' Bethlehem is definitely a stop and if you don't believe me than take it from The New York Times which is widely quoted in and around this northern New Hanpshire cafe. The Times called Maia Papaya the, "best coffee bar in the mountains." Okay. It's hard to miss the Times' compliments; they've got it on a banner along the side of the road - and once inside, its even printed on their business cards. This is a decidedly mom and pop kind of place with a comfortable leather sofa, lots of outdated magazines, reasonably decent coffee [the nearest Starbucks is 50 miles away in North Conway] and a warm inviting vibe. The baked goods - cookies, muffins, etc are memorable - but the coffee: just okay. I'd come back because I like the out-of-the-way nature of the Maia Papaya, but I'd work on darkening up that coffee if I were them. We city folk like our coffee real dark. read more

This is a great stop on a trip through the White Mountains, particularly if you're a vegetarian. There's a terrific selection of wraps (I had two different ones, on two different occasions, and they have lots of fresh vegetables and terrific flavor). The baked goods are also fabulous - I am already looking forward to getting another scone-- and the earl grey latte was also tasty. It's right across the street from an Irving gas station, so you can gas up before getting onto the highway, or heading out into the mountains. read more

My two friends and I stopped here on our Canada/New England road trip. We ordered the veggie panini, two breakfast sandwiches, and the Breakfast Sundae (yogurt and granola), as well as two iced coffee drinks. Everything was fresh with many local and vegetarian options. Service was great and we enjoyed the atmosphere and games provided. The town of Bethlehem was also very cute and quaint. A great spot in a great town! read more

Always a good expresso drinks and nice breakfast lunch selection with soups, quiche and egg wraps as some of the options. There is a nice seating area in the back to eat and relax. You just have to not be in a rush when you come here. But the food is yummy and worth the wait. read more

I have visited and eaten here many times. Food and service is very good. Today, however, while waiting for my salad, the server (I believe she is a principle) used extremely poor hand sanitation technique. Had SAME pair of plastic gloves on while carrying bulk items from a storage area, touched a number of appliances (handle of refrigerator, opened large bulk items) and then proceeded to hand assemble my salad......never washed or changed her plastic gloves. Wasn't quite sure how to even address this obvious food sanitation violation. Threw the salad out once outside....won't eat here again unfortunately. read more

Popped in here for lunch on a little getaway to Whitefield, NH. We went to Littleton to shop for the afternoon and were looking for a vegan-friendly spot. My wife and I both had the Artichoke Melt sandwich, which turned out to be a great choice - with or without the fresh mozzarella (but definitely WITH the dairy-free spinach pesto!). We highly recommend this cute and cozy cafe, and fully look forward to the Big Green Salads we grabbed to take with us for dinner later! read more

Stopped by a couple times on our way through the White Mountains. Coffee was tasty. Scones were really tasty. Like, surprisingly tasty. Get a scone. Last year on our way through I had their Malted Latte, it was very good. The malt was not so sweet that it was overkill and added a nice body to it. We will stop by again on our travels! read more

My family moved from southwestern Connecticut over six years ago but I was disappointed that the closest Starbucks (admit I'm a fan) is at least an hour away. To discover Maia Papaya was a thrill. I will make the 10 minute drive occasionally to enjoy the ambiance and great, freshly made coffee; and sometimes to try one of their superb sandwiches/wraps. Early mornings can be chaotic--there's only one or two gals who cover all the duties--but if you catch them just right, you'll find a great place to relax for an hour or so, enjoy a latte (and the free Wi-Fi), and if you're especially brave, engage one of your fellow java junkies in conversation. It's well worth the trip to this North County jewel. read more

Having just moved back to New Hampshire and in the midst of a meatless summer, The Maia Papaya, a vegetarian cafe, was the logical choice for a relaxing lunch with mom. She had picked up a menu beforehand and we still stood there slack-jawed, looking at all the options, smelling all the smells, and sneaking peeks at the other diners plates. We decided on the Green Submarine Wrap, Tomato Soup, and a Pineapple, Orange, Mango Smoothie. Holy goodness. The wrap had the absolute perfect blend of ingredients, not too heavy on any one item. Homemade hummus and feta cheese with garden fresh vegetables. Yum. I would eat that wrap every single day for lunch. Absolutely amazing. The smoothie was delicious, fresh, and perfectly blended to showcase all of the different fruits. Next time I think I'll try Pineapple, Strawberry, and Peach. The soup was super hot leaving my mother and I fighting over the Cheddar Herb Corn Muffin while it cooled. The soup was quite tasty although next time I'll get the Broccoli Cheese. I always stop at Maia Papaya for breakfast on my way to Oceanpark Maine from Montreal Quebec. It is 3 hours from home, so we have time to build up an appetite. My friends and I LOVE this quaint cafe and the food is always great, organic and homemade. The decor feels like home and the staff is so friendly! This was such an incredible little find! I was in the area for a wedding, and mid-afternoon on Saturday, hubby and I decided to get a late lunch/snack and some hot drinks. There (unsurprisingly) were not a lot of options in the area, and a Yelp search turned up The Maia Papaya. I had the Mediterranean wrap and a hot chocolate, and hubby had egg and cheese on a cinnamon raisin bagel with a mocha. Hands down, top five best hot chocolate and mocha either of us had ever had! My wrap was yummy, as was his breakfast sandwich. All in all, it was delicious! If I ever find myself back in the area, I'd make a concerted effort to make a pit stop here! read more

It's not easy to please a mixed family of vegan to omnivorous eaters, and as we've discovered, traveling can become a huge challenge to find 'real' food we're all satisfied with. But Maia Papaya did a great job - nice atmosphere and friendly service too. The panini sandwiches were wonderful - very fresh ingredients on killer bread. The kids loved the smoothies and cookies after. We all walked away stuffed and ready for the next adventure.
