Do not go here. I went here for restaurant week and they put a 20 dollar up charge on my bill and had hidden fees. I had to ask them to take it off. No where on there menu does it say that there is a gratitude charge for three people that is outrageous. The food is also not great at all. The drinks were over priced (3.25) for lemonade. Also I woke up to a stomach ache. Do not let the menu fool you. The food presentation is horrible. They had this weird alarm that was alarming people to leave and I found it so unprofessional. The place also felt like a COVID zone. I should have left as soon as I saw something on the saucer plates. I wasted 120$ on a place that didn't even acknowledge that it was my birthday. We came in at 11:30 because evething else is close around here. We didn't have a waiter they send a bartender, she was nice but didn't come to refill the drinks. I would call this the George Bush of restaurant chains...medicore at best. Its a C student with a bland tounge who must be cooking. The place is set up great for sports, bar, booth, tables and large tvs. The staff is also very friendly. The reason for the bad review is the food. It is awful. Everything lacks flavor. I literally had to spit out a bite of a turkey burger. I think they just took ground turkey and grilled it without any seasoning or salt. It was like eating bad air. Bland and gross. I also got the corn on the cob. Something that is very hard to screw up, but it was also disgusting. I think it was grilled on the same grill as other foods and the corn absorbed the flavors. I also tried the buffalo burger. It wasnt as bad as the turkey burger but lacked the buffalo sauce. I got it on the side and it was fine. The appetizer we tried was the southwestern chicken chilli. Also another bland dish. I had to add a ton of tobasco to make it edible. It was with disgusting salty tortilla chips. The fries were the only decent thing here. This is a very good sports bar that has a large(very) menu, great selection of draft beer and a willing staff. It has a very large dining room - 2 separate rooms - as well as large bar seating. The wings are very good - large, plump, fresh. Their burgers are good but not great. I think they could benefit from reducing their menu ( definitely "diner" influenced) and focusing on improving a more limited offering. But that is only an opinion. They will often accommodate special requests and the execution is good. The atmosphere is fun, LOUD and active- something I like when going! Went here to watch some champions league soccer....the bartender was nice but seemed uninterested when i asked her to change the channel to the one i wanted to watch. They were playing music the entire time i was trying to watch but they raised the volume for me which was nice of them. The Guiness was standard but the food was awful. Dear Main Event Management Last night, Monday 2/19, your service was awful. There's no excuse to wait an hour for a no show waitress and then have to chase after the hostess who kept running away to reset tv's around the room. Similar experience on the back end getting and paying the check. Are you even aware of what goes on there. If the waitress wants to know why she only got a $2 gratuity, you can explain why. Recently my mother passed away, we were planning to go for dinner between the afternoon and evening sessions of the wake. I sat down with Mike, the owner, He was so accommodating and very sympathetic, making a point to ask my mother's name. On the day of the wake we sat at our table, and were suprised to find the menus had been printed with my mothers name, in memory of. My father was so overwhelmed with the thoughtful gesture. Typical casual dining family restaurant with a sports theme. While some will consider the massive menu a good thing, I disagree. Rather than throw everything possible on a menu I'd rather have the focus be on a core list of great things. I ordered a steak kebab (at least that's how it was described on the menu). The steak was supposed to be medium rare but came out well done, flavorless and sad. The interesting thing was that the steak was presented whole with the vegetables on skewers. Not really what I wanted (figured the steak would also be on the skewers) especially since the vegetables were extremely soggy and kinda gross. Definitely would not recommend this place unless you're in a pinch to find something for the family. Oh and be warned - way overpriced. read more

Manager could care less about customers here. Food is going down hill, served lukewarm at best. After coming for years and being disappointed and sending food back for first time manager became argumentative and loud, refusing to take responsibility. as we tried to be discreet he made a scene. I ordered a prime rib medium rare that came greyish brown. he insisted warming the meat changed the color but was medium rare. ok maybe but don't have to yell it at me and I don't have to eat something unappetizing for $27. on top of all this he reeked of cigarette smoke so much so I completely lost my appetite. will never go back - sad after being a regular since it opened. read more

First things first: This review is for the second location of The Main Event, recently opened on Rte. 110 in Farmingdale, NY, having taken over the huge space that was once Kodiaks. We were seated right away, even tho' it was already 6:30 on Thursday and they were busy. As I said, this place is very, very big. If you get overwhelmed by lots of TVs, skip it, as Main Event boasts 50! I was pleased to see Tiara, one of the best servers from Kodiaks, had stuck around. I had heard the owners also own a seafood wholesale company so I had to try the seafood. Much to my delight, there was a whole special menu of seafood in addition to their regular voluminous menu. So, our order: 2 Gin & Tonics (excellent), 1 appetizer of Steamers, 1 entrée of Soft Shelled Crabs Francaise over a Rice Pilaf, and 1 order of Fettuccini Alfredo w/ Shrimp, Chicken & Broccoli. ($75.00 total bill - very reasonable) I knew we were in for a good meal once I tasted the Steamers (For the uninitiated, like clams, but w/ a tail). Our server came out with a large covered bowl full of them, hot & steaming, along with bowls of hot melted butter & clam broth. More than enough for both of us. So we dug in and happily, and not one single clam in that bowl had a spec of sand in it! Wow. Our entrées came with salad (house or Caesar). You don't see that much anymore. It was fresh, crisp and the blue cheese dressing was really chunky. My entrée of Fettuccini was perfect, pasta cooked al dente', tender shrimp & moist chicken, rich sauce. As far as the Soft Shell Crabs, my dining companion assured me they were excellent, deliciously prepared and way more than enough for dinner. (I'm not a fan) We both took food home. I have a lot of problems with The Main Event. Far more than I care to list here, so if you want the full brunt of my disdain, come have a beer with me at a good bar or just any bar that doesn't try so hard to be something that it is not. First of all, the menu reads like stereo instructions. It is over complicated and overflowing with choices, half of which should be dumped immediately. There's appetizers, sandwiches, burgers, seafood, Italian, Asian, barbecue ... and much more. The one common denominator across the menu is all the food comes from the same freezer and is prepared by the same dizzy, inept kitchen staff. The wait staff at The Main Event is nice enough, though as the night wears on, their attention wears thin. I won't trash the staff though, it's just a job to most of them and it's not their fault the person running this place throws items on a menu like a chimp throws feces at a wall. Which brings me to the taste and quality of the food itself. It is low quality, greasy and sometimes just weird looking. I've seen pasta dishes at The Main Event with an unnatural orangey and pinkish hue; I've eaten chili here that tasted like mashed up White Castles burgers and kept me up all night reliving the nightmare with an array of unsettling odors. Feel like having nachos? Go to Taco Bell, because the nachos at The Main Event resemble a messy pile of filth found behind a factory specializing in nuclear waste and dead kittens. If I had to recommend a dish, I guess it would be the buffalo wings. They are edible. The beer selection is ok. I mean, there are indeed beers on the premises, so that's a good thing, right? Nothing impressive, just beer. Some people like beer that is "just beer." If you are one of those people, go for it. As for the atmosphere at The Main Event, it's ok as long as they aren't playing any music. But when the music's blasting, it feels like a 15-year-old girl's bedroom. I'm guessing they let the staff plug in their iPod's and hit shuffle. Consider yourself lucky if there's a big sporting event on and they turn up the television audio instead of assaulting your ears with Taylor Swift. The point is, there are plenty of better options out there for bar food and drinks. Perhaps if The Main Event simplifies its menu and focuses on classic, easy to prepare food, the quality of the dishes will improve and the rest of the headaches in this place won't be so nauseating. And by the way, I'm still tasting - and smelling - that chili. read more

This is a great local sports bar/restaurant that is great to go to with some friends, or for the whole family. The menu is huge and has any kind of pub/american food you can want. It is right for the price. Not the best, but particular items can be awesome. Such as there wings! Definitely good for a family outing. Can be packed on Saturday nights so be careful! I'm going to rate restaurants on a scale of 1-10 for each of the following categories: atmosphere, service, food quality, price and likelihood to go out of my way to eat here again. Max score is 50 which will translate to the number of stars nicely: 46 and above 5 stars, 36 and above 4 stars and so on. As Sports bars go Main Event is on the nicer side with a vast menu that goes way beyond burgers, wings and beer. They have Tons of TVs and lots of space. Atmosphere: 8 for a sports bar it is very well done with plenty of TVs; Service: 6 not the best, not the worst just ok; food quality 7 for a sports bar their food is good (they offer a grilled wing option that is very good); Price: 5 their prices are a little on the high side; Going out of the way: 6 if you're going to watch a game and want more than the usual sports bar this is the place to go, not into sports, probably not worth going out of your way. Walking into The Main Event was like watching an episode of Kitchen Nightmares. Nearly nobody in the place on a Saturday afternoon even with two local baseball games going on. The beer selection wasn't bad but nothing spectacular. My friend and I looked at the overloaded menu and wondered why half of the items were there. We ordered the buffalo chicken sliders on pretzel buns as an appetizer. When they arrived it was on a dirty plate with a garnish of week old lettuce and a split sun bleached pickle. The sliders themselves were unimpressive, resembling chicken nuggets brushed in the mildest of mild buffalo sauces. There was no blue cheese or ranch to accompany the sliders either. We didn't even finish the 4 sliders before deciding to go home and just grill some burgers. read more

Went here last night with my boyfriend and a girlfriend who was visiting from out of town. Our waitress was pleasant, helpful and attentive, absolutely no complaints about her service. We wee seated immediately even though it was very busy inside, however we did call ahead to reserve a table because we didn't know if it would be packed (a football Sunday). We ordered our drinks first and they came very quickly. For food, we ordered the extreme nachos, the 24-wing special (though the price wasn't that great, but whatever, this is where we chose to eat), and the mini-sliders on pretzel buns. The nachos were soggy and I believe there was more lettuce on the plate than chips. I would not order this again. The sliders were pretty dry, if you order without cheese they come as 4 plain patties on the pretzel-ish buns (no salt) and one large pickle in the middle of the plate. Some ketchup helped a little and we cut the pickle to add on, but the patties themselves were just beyond dry. I would not order this again, either. The wings, however, were a pleasant surprise since I didn't expect very much of them. We ordered the buffalo (they also have bbq) and the flavor was delicious. Not overwhelmingly spicy, but enough heat to satisfy those who love buffalo wings. They weren't tiny at all, which is something I find at a lot of sports bars with wing specials (they advertise a great price on a lot, but they're so tiny with barely any meat per piece!) these were very good sized wings and while the outside was nice and crispy, the meat inside was tender and juicy. The ladies room was also surprisingly beautiful. I tend to judge a lot of restaurants heavily by how their bathrooms are, but I will say you don't expect too much from a sports bar bathroom. This location, however, was really impressive. Everything was beyond clean, spotless even, with gorgeous marbled countertops and the sinks were very different, but looked brand new and beautiful. Plenty of soap, the dispensers work, plenty of paper towels and those touchless dispensers worked perfectly also. But really an impressive bathroom for a sports bar. The only kind of weird thing is that at around 8:45pm our waitress asked if we were ready for the check and informed us they were closing in 15 minutes. I will add that she was very polite about it and did not at all seem like she was rushing us out. The website lists much later, though it was a Sunday night. We were okay with it because we had finished eating and were just talking and finishing a round of drinks, but we noticed some other tables had just received their food. Within 15 minutes, most of the place was cleared out pretty well, surprisingly. Maybe they were closing early because the Sunday football games were over? Maybe they had a holiday party coming in at 9:30, I have no idea, but it seemed a little strange. Been to the Main Event many times over the years. There are televisions all over, so it's a good place to catch sporting event and enjoy a beer. Problem is the place gets extremely crowded and loud. We were packed so tightly at a table for 4 it was uncomfortable. The noise level was ridiculous. Don't plan on having a serious conversation here. The food is okay. Always found it safe to stick with burgers, steak sandwich or the like. The entrees for this type of place are too expensive. This is a very well managed establishment. If you are a sports fan or you want to take your family out for a bite this is a 'must see' destination. There is very ample parking and the restaurant area is roomy enough. Also, there are large screen TV's hung from every angle so that anyone could watch whatever event is on. The menu is diverse and priced reasonably.The ME is also very appealing for parties. The staff is polite and sociable, and as I mentioned this place has 'hands on' owner management. My only suggestion for this place would be to re-design or somehow expand the bar area. Right now, it is shaped like a horse shoe, and on very busy nights the people standing in the bar area can be cramped with the diners at the tables nearby. I have been here a few times for lunch and at night to catch a UFC fight. There are plenty of TVs in the place... no matter where you sit your in eye shot of 2 or 3. Service is bad... Servers I had we're nice and got my food out to me pretty quick considering the crowds when I have been there. Food is average. Had burgers and the skirt steak. Both were cooked like I ordered and serving size was on par with other similar establishments. One grip is the parking....at times it can take awhile to get a spot in their lot. Probably over 100 Tv's. That is this places gimmick. It does have a large bar. If you plan to go for a game expect it to be mobbed and the service to be poor if you get a table. My second visit to this place just about a year after the first made me very happy. I'm not in this neck of the woods much... but when I'm here this is a go to kind of place. It's a great sports bar... plenty of screens, friendly environment but it has unexpectedly upscale food. Chilean Sea Bass anyone?! They do the usual... wings and sliders... and they do that well. But they also do healthy alternatives... lentil soup, incredible hummus, tasty salads. I've been here with large groups both times and everyone left happy. Great tap selection. Especially friendly service. Last year we were trying to set up a special event and management was very cooperative. Our event fell through... but they were great about it all. Sunday football I get there early 1145-12 literally every seat is saved at the bar. I don't get this. It's not fair to call the bartender to tilt your seat. Left farmingdale main event for this reason the owner played favorites and put the sound on for non local teams. I've been going to this restaurant since it was Sluggos. Since then, it has continued to improve. The current owners have done a great job making this place fun for families and groups of friends since it is probably the only sports bar in he area. They have great burgers and chicken dishes. They always have all of the sports games on and are willing to change the channel so you can see what you want from anywhere. I've also been there to watch a UFC fight and it was great to be able to sit at a table and watch. Highly recommend this place if you are in the area. read more
