Super cute Fall activity. We went on a beautiful Saturday so everyone also had the same idea... traffic was quite bad getting to and from and there were lines to get drinks and food. The lines went fast however, and it didn't seem unbearably crowded. The maze was cute and had "cornundrums" to find along the way. The market was like a farmers market vibe, there was a small animal barn, and the mini apple cider donuts were super good! A great family activity or solo trip! Take a small trip to Sayvie Island to experience the Pumpkin Patch. Entry is free and there is so much to do. You can see the farm animals, adventure into the market with the most amazing produce for sale, climb bay bales, grab one of many snack, coffee, beer or cider. Activities for low cost: corn maize, tractor ride (be taken in a wild ride with your kiddo around the farm.) You can take a big tractor ride out to the pumpkin farm and choose your perfect pumpkin. This was a great experience that my fiance and I had in October! We were NOT prepared for the mud, but it was super fun! We got riddles to work with, staff was super nice. They made sure no one got lost in this maze. I don't have a lot to say about this sadly, as it was just a normal corn maze. But I would say it's a fun thing to do with family, friends or partners! We had the absolute best time in the Maize! Upon arrival at the property we were able to find parking with ease. The staff was welcoming and friendly, lots of smiles all around. We went on a Monday afternoon during a break in the rain so the weather was perfection and the crowds were minimal. It was our first time experiencing a corn maze and this place has set the bar! The Maize itself is super clean and the experience of navigating through it was fun and interactive, with cards that have questions to help you find your way. OMG crazy traffic to get onto the Sauvie Island bridge (adds about 30mins) since there were like 300-400 cars on a Sunday but worth the wait! We parked further down from the main entrance to get to the hay rides for the pumpkin patch, the cow ride which was really fun and bumpy. Also remember to bring cash $5 per person if you're wanting to go on this ride. They also had a small farm area with animals, a gift shop and grocery store with fresh produce. You can also buy pumpkins without going o the patch area but its really fun for pics and the hay ride is free! Lots of food options and I was surprised it was actually really good! I would just come for the fair food haha but the lines were super long! We had to wait like 45mins just to order food. We got the hamburger, philly cheesesteaks with beef and chicken which were mouthwatering and oh so good! Highly recommend! They also had corn on the cobb, ice cream, caramel apples, kettle corn, coffee with spiced drinks so definately make it a day. Plenty of parking and its free. We came around 2:30pm and were able to snag some front row parking. A little bumpy in the parking lot for the strollers especially if you dont have big wheels but we made it work. read more

So much fun! The beginning is seemingly easy to figure your way through and then it gets a little tougher once you get to the half way point but if you want to exit at the half way point you can. The second half is harder but oh so worth the challenge. All in all from start to finish it takes roughly 45 minutes give or take. A must for anyone's fall adventure list! read more

This was so much fun! Husband bought tickets online at $8 per person. The maize took us 35 mins to complete. I haven't been to other maizes before but this one was very clean, well thought out and it felt very in order. We didn't go with a big crowd so that made it more enjoyable, otherwise, you see people running and screaming at each other and it gives away the fun as you may find yourself following the voices. This place also has a cafe on-sight, snacks, market, flower picking, animal farm, and the pumpkin area. Lots to see, come prepared to spend a good few hrs here. First corn maze experience for me & my 8 year old. The first half of the maze took us about 45 minutes to get through. According to others in the maze with us, it was the easier half, but it was so much fun! We attempted the second half, but kept getting lost that we ended up back tracking & left it for another day. This was fun. I thought there would be a lot more kids but there were a lot of adults doing this too. There are ten points along the way that kind of serve as "markers". If you are just too lost it can't figure it out to the next point, they give you a little card in the beginning that has (very) easy questions based on what number you're at that tells you where to go. In the middle of the maze there is an opportunity to exit if you don't like it, have a little one with an issue or if you would like a break or refreshments. You can get a stamp and re-enter. As you progress it gets harder. We definitely spent the most time at #10. It goes by in about 40 minutes maybe. On your way out (or in for that matter) there's a local produce stand (Bartlett pears only .29 per pound! Green bell peppers a quarter!) and a cute little animal barn. They also do U-Pick depending on the month and they have an espresso stand and a cafe with local ingredients that isn't too heavy on the wallet. Plus there's a kid's area and hay rides. We went on the second Saturday and it was busy, but not crazy busy. As Halloween approaches that might very well change! read more

Tried to go to The Maize at the pumpkin patch this afternoon..... actually went to get some large pumpkins and then thought we would try the corn maze after that, but.....WHAT A MISTAKE! The traffic was absolutely terrible, there was one little sign that said "haunted maze" , that we drove past because we saw it as we went by the turn. There was one police car with two men attempting to control traffic but doing a very poor job of it ! By the time we turned around it was a 35 minute wait to get back to where the turn was at the end of the bridge . It was several miles from the turn to the farm, after only going less then one half mile in OVER AN HOUR, and counting approximately 400+ cars leaving going in the opposite direction in that hours time , we found a driveway to turn around in and just left before evening seeing the farm . It was the most biggest disappointment. You would think a farm that has this many people would have more signage before the actual turn, and that they would have some kind of plan to handle the amount of traffic that flows in and out of there ... How could we watch 400 vehicles go by us leaving this place in an hour and not move a half mile trying to get in there? SO WE SAY "DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR GAS" trying to go to this place. They could offer me a free ride in a helicopter to the patch and give me pumpkins for free , and I would not accept ! I will never, ever even consider coming to this farm again! There had to more people like us out there today that are as aggravated as we are about the whole wasted afternoon . Post your review ! read more

Waiting in line for two hours in front of four drunk 18 year olds made this excursion to the haunted maize way less pleasant than it had to have been. At one point one of them vomited in line without excusing herself to do it away from the line of people. That seemed bad... Until we got into the tented portion of the line where she urinated behind us. All the while, trying to skip ahead. On two different, they were confronted by people for cutting the line. The staff also got involved, and told them they could "smell alcohol on their breaths." However, these people were not asked to leave in spite of their disruption and the fact that they kept throwing their beer cans on the ground. My greatest issue with the maize was actually not the drunk teenagers, but the line itself. Folks could opt to pay $5 more to get into an express line that would allow you to cut ahead to the front of the line, thus slowing down the line even more for those of us who were waiting. Shame on you Pumpkin Patch for being so greedy. This "express line" also caused confusion when getting into the tent as it appeared to merge with the regular line, thus causing many people to skip ahead into the maize rather than waiting in the line that wrapped around inside the tent. We originally had several more people behind us, but as we were waiting in line inside the tent, we all noticed how the back of the line just sort of disappeared, leading us to conclude that we were in fact now waiting behind several people who arrived much later than us. All in all, the inside of the maize was fun... Definitely scary just to be wandering a corn field like that at night. I wish they had a better system of entry, like numbers or an exact time to show up and go inside, that way families and folks like me wouldn't have to be subjected to vomit and urination, as well as cigarette smoke... They really should have enforced a no smoking rule, at least inside the tented portion of the line. read more

My best friend once called me on a blustery day in college and said, "Katrina, we need to go explore the wind." So without further direction, we hopped in my red pickup named Pete and drove around for hours amidst Yamhill County farmlands, taking pictures, high-stepping it away from garter snakes, and eventually ending up wandering in a cornfield, grinning in quiet awe. That's when I knew for sure he was my kin. So of course I love coming out to The Maize. Sometimes I'll go several times in a season. Timely note: This year's maze is HARD! It probably didn't help that we went during MONSOON @)!# (that's 2013 in CAPS, btw), but no, really: they've taken the theme of "Keep Portland Lost" to heart this year, and are pulling no punches. You have been warned. Here are the things I enjoy: Wandering among ears of corn, eating ears of corns and elephants, purchasing bushels of vegetables I won't end up cooking, taking the hayride out to the pumpkin patch and never being able to decide on a pumpkin, gathering a big bouquet of sunflowers, getting a big whiff of hay in barn & fixating on the chickens, and if we get lucky, catching a ride on the crazy cow train! Less than half an hour from home is this farm-fresh wonderland where not only can you ride on a bale of hay, you can take one home with you! No room for a full bale in your apartment? No worries! They have gourds and colorful corns and mini bales sized just right for the little horse attached to your curbside corral. There are other corn mazes on this island. To my knowledge, this one is the original one, and the people are super nice, so I remain loyal. It's not for everyone, I know. Tromping around in the mud, breathing in farm smells, traveling half an hour to buy vegetables & honey, mixing it up in the farm-going people parade... I respect it if it's not your thing. There's a reason you live in a city. But for me? There are reasons I live in THIS city, and the Corn Maize option to explore the wind at a hat's drop is one of my very, very favorites. read more

Duuuuude!! I love being pleasantly surprised! Today we went to the Portlandia Maize, because I don't recall ever being taken to a pumpkin patch - in my whole life. My mom will say I've been, but a picture is worth a thousand words and I don't have a picture. A corn maize/maze on top of that sounded really cool. Upon arriving, I was super happy to see that we would get 2 corn maize adventures, a hay ride and could to play atop (and below) a hay giant stack. Add to that the market and gift shop, as well as the many food booths, and I was stoked! First, we did a corn maize. It seemed really easy and I was disappointed, until we got really lost. Oops! I judged a book by it's cover. After spending 30 minutes trying to get out of the 1st maize, I was parched and needed to buy a $2 bottle of water. While that sounds spendy, it isn't...considering it was hot out and I'd just gotten a panicked work-out. The 2nd maize was equally tough, but we followed these 2 genius 10 year old girls - who'd discovered that someone had knotted some corn stalk leaves every 20 feet or so, which eventually led us out. I can see why this whole process would be really scary in the dark. Next, we went on the hay ride. We had a blast but hay makes bare skin itch like crazy - so don't wear shorts! Trust me on this one. After that, we scaled the hay bail tower and I climbed through the tunnel underneath, risking a panic attack (I'm claustrophobic) because I was "Double Dog Dared". To reward myself for all the extreme activity (running, scaling, climbing, crawling) I bought myself the best damn caramel apple ever!! We're talking a half inch of caramel! Yummmmy!!! I had so much fun, I can only imagine what the place would be like through a child's eyes. read more

This review is mostly for the two (plain and haunted) corn mazes. The regular corn maze is decent for a family trip with your younger kids. The laminated passports have some good trivia on them, and the CornNundrums are punny. Not so much in 2013, but my last trip on 10/18/14 seriously puts a damper on my enthusiasm to come back. While in the regular corn maze, I saw a single "Corn Cop" walking around. I bring this up because there were multiple teenagers running, slipping, and splashing mud on other groups and being blatently negligent to the rules. I could tell the parents were upset about these kids ruining an otherwise run visit. I think they just need more workers inside and maybe even some that are full-time in the maze. The haunted maze was very scary (don't bring children under 11ish) when I went in 2013, but this year was very bland. The few good "ghouls" were the butcher and the chainsaw guys. I think part of it was a few spots that were bottle-necking groups together, and it turned into either scaring a few people at the start or not scaring anyone because we all saw you. The biggest culprit was the house that was pitch black until a light would flicker and you could move a few feet. On the brightside, the first chainsaw man was kind enough to ask pardon before pull-starting his chainsaw when my girlfriend was walking by. Such a gentleman :D read more

If you want farm fresh produce, a corn maize and some yummy fall snacks this is the place to go. We have been coming here for the last 5 years and have never had a bad time. They have the best corn on the cob on the island and you can get a giant caramel apple here for about $3.50. In addition to the huge produce selection, they also have beautiful U-cut flowers. If your brave try the haunted maze at night, and if you can pay in advanced to avoid waiting in the long line for tickets. This place is perfect for celebrating autumn and Halloween! Some friends and I came here for the Haunted Maze. Upon our arrival, we were told that it would be an hour and a half long wait. However, we were given the option of paying an extra $5 to go to the front of the line. Although it was clearly their way of making more money, we went ahead and splurged the extra cash and bopped up to the front of the line. I'm glad we did this, as the line was long, crowded and full of rambunctious (and possibly drunk) teens. This was my first time at a haunted maze! There were some spooky surprises here and there and the fact that it was so dark made the experience even more terrifying. I appreciated the good scares! I also appreciated the fact that the actors did not grab my friends or me or try to hold us. I would recommend the maze to anyone who enjoys a good scare. Go to the haunted maze at night. It is dark and creepy and (spoiler alert) without a flashlight makes it that much creepier. Parents, do not bring small children (or kids who get easily startled and/or don't like the scary stuff) into the haunted maze. There was a family walking behind us with a young child who was hysterically crying the entire time. There are a lot of creepy monsters in this maze (e.g., zombies, creepy ghosts and even a scary thing with a loud chainsaw toward the end) and, although they won't touch you, they will jump out and scare you. This was a fun experience and I'm planning on returning next year! :) read more

I wasn't impressed at all with the place. The people that work there were absolutely rude. Worst experience ever. I dont usually do reviews, but just felt like I needed to warn people. There were numerous times where I saw staff being rude, and obviously annoyed with guests. Everything was quite pricy, spent way more than what I bargain for and only left with a few pumpkins and regret of ever wanting to go there. You pretty much have to pay for everything, expect for the hay ride that doesn't take you very far and even one of the drivers on there wasnt friendly. He didnt advise us when we get off or if there were more stops, I mean for new guests how are we suppose to know this. The maze was okay, but I wouldn't ever go back again. I was totally surprised at the quality of the experience at this corn maze. Staff was very helpful and friendly. The Maize was huge and they had all kinds of fun puzzles that you could use to walk through it. We also reserved a private bonfire pit with a shelter amid the corn. We had a great time roasting s'mores under the Starlit sky. The produce at the market next to it was really good as well. It was an A+ experience through and through.
