We came in for a wedding for a friend of mine. I don't feel the salon is set up for wedding parties. There was no table to sit stuff on like coffee etc. There was only a limited amount of chairs so we were standing a majority of them time and were navigating through other guests coming into the salon. I last minute decided to get lashes, originally was not booked for anything, the lashes are $24 and I was not happy with mine. I asked for simple natural and I got very long lashes - very unnatural looking. They also were not on my lash line. Even when I was sitting in the chair she had to re-glue them. I ended up having to take them off after an hour because they were not staying on. There was also TONS of dust everywhere that looked like it had been there for a long time. There's a corner booth that had dust all over it, under all the shelves and the shelves were covered in dust. The salon offers a lot such as makeup, hair and massages. My experience with this company was extremely disappointing, and I feel as if they lied to me. Here are the bullet points of the overall process, from booking to final product. (1) The Lying: Upon booking I was asked, "What made you think of us?" I told them I was a Collinsville Student, and I remembered the women who used to go to their salon. The woman's response was, "The one with the picture of the lion on it?" I said, "Yes, that's the one." She replied, "How fun! Yup, that is definitely us." The day of my wedding she asks me the same question. Confused as to why I'm being asked this question twice, I provide the same answer. Her co-worker laughed, and I asked, "Why is that funny?" The same woman's response was, "Because that's not us." The woman then informed me, "You must have been mistaken honey." Um. NOPE. Sure wasn't. (2) The Payment: I ordered hair and makeup service for five women on location. I paid for all services in full up front including taxes and transportation. Not only did they ask for payment the day of because they were unprepared (which we quickly remedied) but they also tried to charge me an additional $20 "No-Show," fee. I'm sorry, but the purpose of a no-show fee is to recoup from lost commission. When a patron prepays everything, then there is no lost commission. Finally, they were expecting a tip. I've been informed this is somehow still a standard in the business. Please watch Adam Ruins Tips on YouTube and begin charging your clients what you think you're worth while paying your staff what they are worth versus placing the burden of appropriate compensation at the mercy of customer. Thanks. (3) The hair: The one thing no one had a problem with was how their hair turned out. Everyone had an absolutely lovely hairstyle. We did take issue with the fact that their blow-dryers blew the fuse to our room. Rather than wait for the fuse box switches to be flipped they escorted us in turn to the hallway where we stood naked in our robes and had our hair blow-dried in front of total strangers. (4) The Service: I was promised there would be four technicians. There were only three. I asked if there were two for hair and two for makeup. She told me all four did both hair and makeup. I asked to create a profile for what each girl wanted, and to have a schedule. They said, "We'll start at 10 a.m. and have one technician for each girl, then do your makeup (the bride) last." I asked how long they would be with us, and I was told they would be with us from 10 a.m. until 1:45 p.m. I asked ahead of time if they would be able to provide us with samples of our gloss, so we could retouch throughout the night. None of that happened. Three girls showed up, two for hair and one for makeup. They did my makeup second in a lineup of four women. I GAVE THEM a picture of me, full hair and makeup from two years ago, and said "This is what I want." My makeup looked okay by the time the girl was done, but it was NOT what I wanted. She noticed I was unsatisfied and said, "I know it's not what you wanted, but I tweaked it to fit your theme better." NO, THE WHOLE POINT WAS FOR EVERYONE BUT ME TO LOOK DARK AND GOTHIC. (I had a Nightmare Before Christmas Wedding.) (5) The Technique: WHO doesn't use primer? Apparently this place doesn't, because the only one who received primer was me. WHO doesn't use setting spray? You guessed it! This place. The only person who liked their makeup was one of the bridesmaids. Everyone else absolutely HATED their makeup, and we had to rely on another bridesmaid to fix it to be manageable for the night. read more

On Saturday 9/16/23, I came in for my bridal trail hair and makeup. To be honest, I did not enjoy my experience or leave feeling very happy with my hair and makeup. I didn't mention anything at the time because I am not very confrontational and like to give people some grace. I thought maybe once I was in different lighting, or I saw how I looked in pictures, I could feel different about it. I didn't, in fact, I felt worse. I was there for 46 min (because as they mentioned several times they were on the way to a wedding) and felt rushed the entire time, so rushed I didn't have much time to even process the whole experience. It is not just about the outcome of the hair and makeup (which I didn't like). So, on top of feeling rushed, I don't really think a close look was taken of either the picture of the hair or makeup that I provided. Very little questions were asked to ensure what I wanted. My hair had very little volume, no hair pulled out around my face, the twist/braid was barely there...I wasn't asked about hair pieces, the dryer temperature was burning my head, a cape wasn't provided to cover my clothes, the stylist was incredibly rough. I wasn't asked about my skin type. My makeup had little coverage, little to no blush or bronzer, no contouring, there was so much silver or highlighter under my eyes though, aging me incredibly cakey. The picture I provided for eyes had gold, copper, bronze...but mine looked silver and brown. The Makeup was not blended on my neck and ears, so a major difference was showing in the sunlight. On top of it all, my skin broke out after and has been itchy. While I was there the workers were bad mouthing people in town. I brought all this to the attention of the owner who was also the one who did my hair. She did say she was sorry I was not satisfied and offered for me to come back in. If it was just the outcome of the hair and makeup I would have but since the whole experience was not good. I suggested a refund and my deposit for the wedding back since there was 45 days for them to book other clients. She said sorry we don't do refunds! best wishes! I spent $190 on the trail and $200 deposit. I'm out $390 and will be doing my own hair for the wedding. Worst experience I have ever had any where! read more

The place has a fun and funky vibe. I would definitely return if I'm in the area again. I was a bridesmaid in a wedding recently and the technique they used was not up to makeup artist standard. They never asked us what skin type we have to adjust their products based upon what would last all day. My skin gets oily pretty fast when makeup is applied and since they didn't bother to ask, my face was so cakey by the time the wedding was about to start that I had to remove a good chunk of the makeup and fix it using the products I brought with me. If I'm having "professional" makeup being done, I want it to last all day. There were nine of us needing our makeup done and three makeup artists showed up. Each artist spent a max of 20 minutes on each girl, which is not long enough to effectively do full coverage makeup. They did not use full coverage makeup, they didn't contour our faces in the slightest bit, they didn't bake our faces to set the liquids, and they didn't even use setting spray. All of which are basic necessities in my book of wedding makeup. After the artists left, I had to go grab my setting powder and finish the makeup myself. One of the girls opted for fake lashes (she had worn them before) and the lashes started falling off two hours after being applied. She had to go buy her own eyelash glue to fix it throughout the day. Overall, I was pretty underwhelmed with how the makeup looked for the price we paid. I was so disappointed with my experience here. When I arrived I thought the salon was cute and the staff was friendly enough, my hair dresser Becca was nice and conversational. I explained what I wanted to have done and showed her a picture. I have thick dark brown hair with a slightly wavy texture. I wanted my hair done in the balayage style with lighter accents, I was very clear that I did not want anything orange toned or chunky, I prefer a very blended more subtle look. Although Becca was very friendly, I had to request that my layers be redone three times as there didn't seem to be any layers at all... she clipped up the top part of my hair and left it alone the entire time she was dying my hair, she used one color and only foiled the bottom part of the underside of my hair and when I asked questions (could you please foil further up/distribute more evenly/do more color {any color?} on the top of my hair) she assured me it would look good and turned me away from the mirror. After she rinsed the color out and finished the processing I was able to see how the color was turning out in the mirror. Even with it being damp i could see it was orange... and no other variety in color. I expressed that I wasn't sure about the tone... it was a lot of contrast with my natural color (the top that hadn't been touched) and nothing like the picture or style I showed her.. I tried to make it clear that I didn't like the color. She insisted it looked great and blow dried my hair. I did not like the color and still had no layers, I expressed those things to my stylist and she kept repeating that I could live with it for a week and if I didn't like it I could come back to have it fixed. I made it clear I didn't like the color and wanted it changed and she continued to reaffirm that I could come back in a week if I still hadn't gotten used to it. She was not going to fix it. I was never given a mirror to look at the back of my hair and when I got home I realized why, she had cut three inches off my hair and it was jagged and uneven, along with my orange and now damaged ends. I should state that when I called in and stated I wanted a balayage and cut I was quoted $85 and that it "may go up from their with lightening" while I expected more than $85 it ended up being $220. The most I have ever spent on my hair (I hardly ever get it colored but my brother in laws wedding is a week away) I was sooo disappointed with the outcome of my hair appointment. I called today (the day after my appointment) and talked to the owner Carla. She was nice at first and immediately turned cold and defensive when I mentioned a refund. I used a kind tone of voice the entire phone call even when she became upset and rude, in my opinion very unprofessional for a business owner. She immediately let me know that they have a no refund policy but that if I wanted to I could come in and she would fix it for me for free. This would have been a nice gesture if presented with a kinder tone and a more professional foot forward. I thanked her for the offer, let her know that I already had an appointment set elsewhere and that I would prefer a refund. I offered to send her pictures so she could determine if a refund was warranted. I let her know that if I could not receive a refund I would posting an honest review of my experience and filing a dispute of the charge with my bank. She was very upset and responded "That is VERY unfair to MY salon and my stylists for you to post a bad review, I said I would fix it for free" I assured her I would only post the truth and that I would include her offer. Anyone reading this review can look at the pictures and see that it was an AWFUL cut and color. You can choose for yourself if this is the kind of business you would prefer to support, as for me I will never be back and I will never recommend this salon to anyone. I was very disappointed with the lack of ability shown by the stylist doing my hair and the lack of professionalism shown by the owner. One star is a generous rating. read more

I've been here twice for two specail occasions. One a spa day, and the other for my wedding makeup and hair style. I really enjoyed the spa day. I got my hair colored, a facail, and mani/pedi. I liked my hair color, the facail was OK, and nails were just OK too. I might've been able to do better on my own actually. It was just fun to get pampered. It was a present, so I don't know how much it cost, but my mom and sister said it was over priced for what we got. THe wedding makeup and hair was OK too. I got the spray makeup which did look really great! I also got a tattoo covered up. Despite what I was told the makeup did rub off. My hair was really nice. EXACTLY what I was looking for, but after completing one part, another stylist took it all down and completely re-did it. I liked that she felt it needed to be done the "right way", but at the same time, it took much longer than expected and ultimately made me late to m own wedding... I received horrible highlights here! I looked like a tiger, they were so striped and orange. Luckily I was able to get in at Regis Salon in the St. Clair Square Mall (which I highly recommend) because they weren't even willing to fix my highlights without me waiting 3 days to get an appointment. And even then, they called to move my color correction appointment - so glad I wasn't able to go back because I highly doubt they would have been able to fix their mistake. read more

I made appt over the phone with girl at desk for first time hair color with owner for Cut, color, highlights. I asked to talk to the owner to explain what I wanted, she was unavailable. I told her I did not want to go over 100. I'm use to paying 85. For same service. She said no problem, should not be no more then 100. Ok I made appt. Met the owner to do my hair, she cut & highlighted, I noticed my roots were still dark, I asked her she said oh you would have to get more color. Well that is what I ordered, when making appt. I've been going to Valerie for years and she is awesome. I've been to several others when I needed something quick and Valerie wasn't in and they're great, too. Super friendly staff and they do a great job. This was awhile ago (2010), but Valerie did my wedding. She did an awesome job, but that's not the story. My maid of honor was very sick and ended up going to the hospital. She swore she was going to make it to the wedding, so Valerie moved with us from the hotel (where we were supposed to get our hair done) to the wedding site. My maid of honor did indeed make it back and Valerie did her hair and helped fix her up. She looked great! No one knew the drama that went down that day thanks to her being so accommodating. Whoever gave this salon negative reviews in the past clearly has something wrong with them. (Kidding, previous reviews, you're allowed your opinion.) Amazing!! Not only is The Mane Attraction the best at hair, but the makeup work they provide is extraordinary!! I had a strapless gorgeous Ball gown wedding dress with a Swarovski crystal bodice (Allure 9006), and I was worried about my tattoos not looking "right" with the dress/occasion. I just want to say THANK YOU SO MUCH! I was an "Airbrushed Angel" for my wedding. No one could see my tattoos or the giant bruise I had from getting waxed at a different place the day before. Valerie is an amazing makeup artist and super fun to talk to as well. They were all booked so she went out of her way to open the store early for me at 6:30 AM!!! Total lifesaver!!! I was balling my eyes out the day before because of the instant waxing bruise I received elsewhere. She covered it no problem along with my giant tattoo! I was searching for a new hair stylist and came across this local salon. I called and asked about the salon, asked for pricing on exactly what I wanted to get done and got an estimate for around $90 (reasonable for a cut and color) so I decided to go for it. They said they could get me in within 3 days from my call...so I went in. Long story sorry, but I got maybe 2 inches (if that) cut off of my hair, got hair thinned out, and a Balayage color. (this is exactly what I explained on the phone what I wanted done, coming up with the conclusion that it would be $90ish total. After everything I went up to pay and my hair stylist told me that my total was $170.....AFTER giving me a $30 off for student discount. $200 FOR A CUT AND COLOR R U KIDDING ME?! I asked why it was so much and she charged me for 2 separate colors, toner, and cut. Later in day mom called and was upset with them for charging me so much and they didn't do a thing about it. After charging me WAY over the amount that they quoted me. The owner complained and made excuses over the phone saying how much hair I had (my hair is a little past my shoulders......) and that I should have known prior that getting a good cut and color would cost that much. Moral of story......horrible management, obviously doesn't care about customer happiness; if you want to pay an arm and leg for a hair cut and color then come on in to mane attraction read more
