They are so kind--doctors, medical assistants, NPs--I've never had a bad experience with them. However, I was recently sick with a respiratory infection and I called for an appointment. I was told that I needed to see the triage nurse first, before I could see a provider. I was hoping to get some kind of cough medicine for my severe cough, just so I could sleep through the night and not constantly gag from coughing so hard. I waited about an hour to see her. The triage nurse gave me bad advice--told me to take an expectorant for a productive cough. I was coughing so hard, I nearly gagged in her office. The coughing continued for another week, and I ended up herniating a disc in my back. I regret not going to urgent care instead. The pharmacy is also terrible. They charge more for medication than retail pharmacies, are only open 9-5 on weekdays, and are very slow. I have switched my prescriptions to a Bartell 2 min from my house, and I'm paying much less (despite the Hall Health pharmacy being the preferred pharmacy under my insurance).

Because I'd much rather take a shot than have blood extracted to prove my immunization, I came here because they could update the school on the spot without me having to deal with sending verifications over mail or fax. You feel a little like cattle when you're here having to check in first then go through all the loops but being on campus I expected that. There were a ton of people to check patients in, so I didn't have to wait to check in nor did I have to wait longer than five minutes to get called back to take the shot. The woman who checked me in (and another lady who said to me upon entering "are you lost, little girl?") were a little condescending and treated me like I was born yesterday but again, also expected. Whatever. She did make me laugh at one point -- congratulating me on being the policy holder on my health insurance. Yay for independence? Everyone was friendly enough and the process was quick but I'm happy that I don't have to come here on a regular basis.

I just finished my consultation with the Co-Medical Director, Dr. Christopher Sanford, for an upcoming trip to East Africa. This place is a must for anyone traveling to a developing nation. The Travel Clinic provides pre-travel counseling, immunizations, and health advice for adults and children who are planning to travel out of the U.S. or Canada. The clinic is a Washington State Department of Health-designated center for yellow fever vaccine. Even though you can get the necessary immunizations from your own doctor having a consultation with one of the doctors at the Travel Clinic ensures that you will have the latest information about immunizations, diseases, and generally how to stay healthy while abroad. During my trip I plan to climb Mt Kilimanjaro, and Dr. Sanford had great advice about altitude sickness, as well as controlling mosquitoes and treating stomach discomfort - if you know what I mean. Plus I was able to get all of my prescriptions filled while I waited for my shots. It's a great resource even if it does cost a bit, but your insurance should cover the majority of it. And, the doctors are available via email if you should have any problems while you're traveling.

I know Harborview as the region's best trauma center, and I knew when the call came that I needed to be present because of a situation that it was not a good situation. So, let's keep with the basics. Parking was incredibly easy to find. If I had one concern it was that because there's a few other hospitals were parking isn't convenient. You either end up so far away from the emergency room that the walk over feels like a lifetime or you end up in some convoluted location that it takes an additional ten minutes to find where you are. Harborview offers a variety of parking options from valet to self-park which is incredibly handy. The hospital itself is very clean. I still associate hospitals with very sterile environments - the white walls, the white floor, the bright flourescent lights, the antiseptic smell that permeates the air like a horrid perfume you can't quite escape. So when I see a hospital that tries to break my strong impression I appreciate the small gestures from the light green paint to the chair rail that made the space feel less like an institute and slightly more inviting. I found the emergency waiting room and check-in process to be a little confusing. When you're a visitor and trying to get in and find out status all the different stations can be a bit daunting. I never ended up at any of these stations because the social worker quickly found the waiting group and we were eventually taken to the ICU. The social worker was great. Patient, soft spoken, understanding she helped the process immensely. I do not envy her job. The ICU was nice. The waiting area was conveniently laid out so that groups of people could gather comfortably without rearranging furniture. They were testing out a new system that I guess will one day give status of different rooms so you can check if your particular person is in their room, in surgery, or any other number of statuses. The nurses were patient and kind. I know everyone has different experiences and going to the hospital in any capacity - unless you work there - is never going to be pleasant. I appreciated the attentiveness that Harborview showed us that day and the kindness that they offered.

My father died of death induced by dehydration after having had a stroke and then administered medication that we told the staff he could not take. The medication made him a vegetable. So, we watched him dehydrate to death and had the topper of a chief nurse yelling at my father and pinching him so hard she dug her nails into his skin and made this traumatized man weep! She did this in front of family members and they were horrified and traumatized by her behavior as a result. This occurred all in the highly acclaimed neuro unit. Then, when my father would not die fast enough they transferred him to the most disgusted, urine soaked nursing home from hell where he finally died of dehydration the next day. Pure hell!!! It was a nightmare that I wish on no one! I often hear that harborview is so spectacular but, that must have been some time in the past or for others. This is the second family member I've had die under their experimental care by juvenile doctors. In my experience, this institution is a pathetic, embarrassing, scourge on the face of medicine! Be warned! Beware!

We were there for quite some time, however, the staff were understanding, helpful and timely in their care. The doc on staff was pretty straight forward in her approach for the vertigo. Then you have to wait weeks for a follow-up with your doctor to give you the results. My GP goes on pregnancy leave for 5 months and the VA never put in a replacement doctor. You had to see the PA or an LPN for care that they didn't have the training to perform. The place was terrible when I got back from Nam. Then it started getting better in the 2000's until Trump. Now its back to being a sh*t-hole again.

Seattle Children's Hospital ER -- A Cut Above the Rest…read more You know that Shawn Mendes song "stitches?" Well, my kid needed five stitches, and this place had us in stitches the whole time. Needle-ss to say, I was on pins and needles when we arrived, but the staff really sutured everything up nicely. Then I scrolled the room's movie list and found Lilo & Stitch sitting right there. Five stitches and Stitch, available on demand? I'd have been a fool not to take that opportunity. Whoever curated that library understands the assignment. Ohana means nobody gets left with an open wound. They also came through with a little diazepam to take the edge off, and let me tell you -- Diaze-Pam deserves top billing right alongside Lilo and Stitch. Pam clocked in and the whole room relaxed. Not on the staff roster, but she should be. We went in tense and came out totally Zen. That's not a chill pill, that's a chill plan. The care was seamless. They kept the oxygen sensor on my kiddo's finger the whole visit instead of grabbing a new one -- talk about keeping tabs on your patients while cutting waste. These folks really know how to monitor a situation. Every question we asked, they answered -- no one ever left us hanging by a thread. They tucked my little one in with a blanket and adjusted the bed tilt until it was juuust right. Great bedside manner, and an even better bed-tilt manner. Honestly, the whole staff deserves a raise... of the bed. And the promised orange popsicle? Delivered. Orange you glad they keep those stocked. It was the coolest part of the visit -- hands down, sticks up. But they didn't stop there -- once it was all over, they sent us off with pudding, apple juice, animal crackers, AND string cheese. The proof was in the pudding, the service was apple-solutely top notch, and the animal crackers meant we were officially crackers about this place. As for the string cheese -- no strings attached, they just wanted to make sure we were happy. Parking was easy too, which is rare for a hospital. Usually finding a spot is the most painful part of the visit, but not a spot of trouble here. They've really patched that up. A stitch in time saves nine, and I'm just glad we stopped at five. Would I come back? I hope we don't NEED to -- but if we do, I wouldn't want to be seen anywhere else. Five stitches, five stars. They mended my kid AND my faith in healthcare.
