Came here on a Sunday just after the lunch buffet and ordered two vegan entrees: a vegan eggplant curry and a jackfruit korma, which was available as a vegan dish. Both dishes were excellent and labeled as the chef's own creation on the menu, and I agree that the flavor was excellent and not a generic curry recipe. Downsides: the prices were a slightly high ($14-15 per entree) but I guess it was technically dinner hours. Two idlis for appetizer was $7. We also ordered a mango Long Island to celebrate my friend's upcoming birthday, but the drink had no character what so ever.. it was a Long Island with mango juice mixed in without much thought. I am very happy I came across The Mango Grove. Rohit, the head chef and owner, welcomed me and seated me. I really appreciate the warm welcome and quick seating. Rohit explained what they offered on the buffet and on the menu. The service was great. The gentleman who settled my check was so funny and kind. The food was tasty. I enjoyed it. I also enjoyed experiencing a restaurant where there were many different cultures dining and enjoying the experience. The Mango Grove gives a kind of fine dining feel mixed with a casual atmosphere. A little Dissapointed in my DD delivery. We ordered Butter Chicken & Chicken Tikka Masala Garlic Naan Bread and extra Rice. I asked for Extra Sauce in the Tikka masala dish and medium spicy . I've ordered this dish before and it was great! Upon opening the lid. I already noticed that it wasn't as filled as the butter chicken and there was only a few chicken pieces compared to the butter chicken. there was about 6 pieces of chicken with alot of onions and bellpepper. Trying both dishes there was no spice comparison at all. The chicken Tikka masala was also more pricey to the butter chicken. Definitely let down with few pieces of chicken ,not enough sauce and the overly huge amount of onions and bellpeppers in the dish. We enjoyed the butter chicken and everything else. Wish this dish was as good as the butter chicken. We've ordered it before and I don't remember there being so many bellpeppers and onions. Being tight on money this was our time to splurge a little today and we spent $70 with tip. It'll be a bit til we order here again. Suddenly my past failed experiences with Indian cuisine are but a distant memory. Mango Grove far and away exceeded all expectations. Situated in what most would refer to as a shopping plaza, nothing about the appearance particularly sticks out. As a matter of fact, I had to be convinced to dine here. Upon entering, you will most likely be greeting my your gracious host. Seating is plentiful, as are the menu options. Lunch features a typical buffet setting full of Indian dishes, most of which I would have a hard time recognizing if it were not for the English subtitle-like descriptions. Indian cuisine can never be accused of shying away from spices. The dishes are flavorful and executed to perfect done-ness. Favorites - Chapati: Indian flatbread. This was served tableside. Super fresh, warm, buttery, soft. It's like a pillow for your mouth! - Curry goat: beautifully prepared dish. Tender pieces of goat meat. Curry is not overpowering, while it offers a subtle sweetness. Love it While I must say the food was all good, what blew me away was the service. I couldn't get better service from my own mother! Upon hearing how excited we were to try the goat, and then seeing our disappointment to hear it was not being served at the buffet that day, the kitchen literally prepared a batch just for me. I came here with my family because the reviews looked good on Google and I've already tried chutneys and royal taj. Our experience was good but not great. I ordered a masala dosa and the sambar was extremely salty, spicy and oily. I did inform my waiter and he brought out a new fresh sambar ( kudos to him) however it was only slightly better. My brother and dad ordered the paneer tikka masala, goat curry, and butter chicken. The butter chicken was pretty good and the other dishes also were better than my own. There really is no shortage of great indian food in Howard County. So, I'll cut right to the hands down, best part of The Mango Grove - appropriate to the name, the Mango Lassi is hands down the best I've had anywhere. Yes, the food was really good, came pretty quickly, and the staff was very attentive. Mild meant mild and medium had some kick. The shrimp in the goan shrimp curry was plump and tasty and pretty good. Surprisingly, the highlight was a Biriyani with shrimp (I'm not seeing it on the online menu). The spicing in the rice was intoxicating, and the flavor matched perfectly. The appetizer - a mixed Pakora hit mixed reviews. I really enjoyed it, but that wasn't agreed upon by everyone at the table. With a large group, I would add it in with some other apps, but the samosas that went to our neighboring table looked amazing - so I'll probably look elsewhere. The price is what you'd expect for average Indian food ($12-16) , but what they deliver is a step up. A last note: They have a massive setup for a buffet - I'l be very interested in checking that out sometime, I don't think I've seen a setup that large before. read more

We were there for dinner while driving through Maryland. We have ordered few items from their menu, and I must say they were amazing - Indo Chinese food & Dosas. Veg Hakka Noodles was awesome (just like how we get it from street hawkers in Mumbai) so was the Maisur Masala dosa. We got all our orders quickly. Overall, the experience was great. Lastly all staff at this place is so polite and kind. Our server was very helpful, and the place was busy at the time we visited but even then, he paid attention. The food was a solid 4 but the dining experience was totally meh. First they seated us at a regular table. I have an infant in a carrier...I'm not sure where they expected me to place him. I requested a booth and they happily seated us there. I noticed the tablecloth was dirty and clearly has not been changed since the last customer. Strike one. Maybe the server was confused because there were 3 of us and thought someone was ordering an app for dinner (but Pani Puri isn't really an app that's substitutable as an entree but I digress). In any case our dose and szuechan chicken came out at the same time as the Pani Puri. Strike two as we were eating a cold dosa and cold chicken by the time the Pani Puri was done. The service has always been wonderful here. My four year year loves the staff and will actually run into their arms for hugs. We are always treated liked royalty. The food was excellent and we absolutely love it! The service was pretty good too except for a young waiter who was quite mean to us. He came to our table serving water and my boyfriend asked him for some boxes to pack the leftovers. He said that they had no boxes and we had to finish everything left. I asked him: are you sure? And he answered with a poker face: yeah I'm sure. He walked away and came back slowly with couple boxes, but he said very coldly: someone took it seriously! My boyfriend and I were super confused and felt disrespected. My measuring stick is often the naan and goat curry, which were both excellent. Between the plethora of dishes and the excellent service, I can see what locals that work in the neighboring office park(s) flock to this restaurant. You also know its good when you see a nice mix of customers that clearly know whats up with Indian food. The naan was super fresh and had the right amount of fluff to it. Unlimited chai is a must and is becoming one of the biggest discriminating factors by which I select which indian buffet to go to. After 8 years of going to Grove I can say I'm done after tonight. Inconsistent food for a while now.. but tonight i had a very strange conversation with management. I was basically asked why I keep coming back if food is inconsistent. "Oh, but we like your business but why do you come back if it keeps happening?" Really nice, after just telling you I've been coming to your restaurant for almost a decade. 4 out of 4 entrees were incorrect. Spice level incorrect. I wish that I had read Amit's review before I ventured out to the lunch buffet with my tykes yesterday... Thankfully, I didn't hear or see any rodents! I've also been going to the MG for years. While I've eaten dinners there occasionally, by far the best deal is the lunch buffet ($8.95 weekdays). There's usually a good assortment of entrees, sides, breads, and one or two desserts. My visit yesterday was the most lackluster by far. The tablecloths were not clean, and the dining area felt a bit shabby. Spring cleaning, anyone? The bathroom (in the corridor between the sister restaurant) is a bit grim but now includes a changing table. More importantly, the food just wasn't up to snuff. The appetizers (tapioca cakes and pakoras) were not heated and seemed old. The papadums--a fave of my Chickadee and me--were stale. An entree that featured corn and green beans used frozen, soggy veggies. Eh, no thanks... They also clipped me for $6 for my daughter's lunch (she's 3 and ate maybe a plate of food). This is one of my favorite Indian Restaurants. Strictly-speaking, Mango Grove is meat free; at their old location, Mirchi Wok (Indo-Chinese cuisine with some meat options) was located next door and they've maintained their partnership and combined menus at their present joint location. The meat options are fine at the buffet, but I come to Mango Grove for kick-ass Southern Indian food. First off, the buffet is a great way to get your feet wet here. There are so many pickles and chutneys available - more than any other Indian buffet in town. They usually have four meat/fish dishes, which usually included Chicken Tikka Masala and Tandoori Chicken, and the rest is all meat free. They'll bring you naan with your meal and there's also pieces of poori sitting by the chana masala. The dine-in experience is great for dinner with friends, family, or a nice date. I love the appetizer sampler to get a mix of everything. I usually get one of their dosais with their yummy potato fillings. The complimentary sambar (veggie soup) and tomato and coconut chutneys give my taste buds reason to sing. The paneer tikka masala is pretty killer too, especially if you ask them to make it extra spicy! The service is always great and super friendly. If there's an issue, their number one priority is making you happy with the result. The manager is always coming around to make sure everything is satisfactory. I can't recommend this enough. I was not a fan of this restaurant. I'll go as far to say that the food is awful.... But I'm trying to contain myself because the service was so great... I tried it out for the first time during a lunch buffet hour because it was close to where I was, but all the items on the buffet line were subpar and either too salty or lacking flavor. The food tasted unhealthy ... Despite it being vegetarian. And the soup was really the worst part.... I tried mango lassi for the first time because the waiter pushed it on me (I didn't even realize there was a deal for a free cup with a yelp check in lol - funny because I used help to locate this restaurant..) and I was not a fan of that either- it was too sour and appeared to me mixed from a pre packaged yogurt pack. The only good thing about the place is the service- everyone is very friendly. But the food really drives me away... I don't think I will be coming back any time soon.
