The Butler's are all amazing. Each one was kind, attentive and knowledgeable about Buffalo. Rooms are clean and updated. Each guest receives their first glass of wine or beer on them each night, which I find very cool. If you are looking for a hotel that is quiet and in a great location with an excellent staff then this is the place. *We did not get warm chocolate chip cookies or a welcome letter like others have stated on here, so that practice must be something that they used to do. read more

This place is unique and wonderful. The friendliness of the staff is the best part; when we mentioned we were vegetarian, one of the butlers recommended a vegan place that we adored (Strong Hearts; get the breakfast burrito). You get fresh chocolate chip cookies upon arrival, free drinks at the bar, a yummy breakfast of your choosing (and they can make modifications), and extras you can order that come at a reasonable cost, such as prosecco and a cheese plate. The room we had was gorgeous, with tall ceilings and a huge window. The hotel isn't far from the fun Elmwood neighborhood, and also within a few minutes of downtown. This is a quirky, thoughtfully managed gem that helps visitors get to know the soul of Buffalo. This place is truly in a league of its own. It's been a while since I've fallen in love with a hotel and left wishing that I actually had a longer trip. The people behind The Mansion are magical hospitality gurus. I don't always love B & Bs because they feel kind of stuffy and the staff is overbearing (even if well-meaning. I don't like to feel that they are on top of my every move). Left to my own devices, I'd be in a boutique hotel or even a W or Omni. Something with loyalty points, upgrades, a gym and a nice lounge. The Mansion may not have a gym, but there's a yoga mat in the closet and honestly when it's summer in Buffalo, you should just get outside and explore like I did. A brisk early morning walk in this neighborhood is quite scenic and peaceful. Better than a large sleek lounge would be the entry parlours to this Victorian! And even better than that, complimentary cocktails enjoyed in the bar/lounge by the entryway. They offer wine, too, and it's a nice variety of reds, whites and bubbles. I very much enjoyed my evening sitting in here and getting some work done. When I arrived, I was informed by the incredibly gallant butler, Chris that I had received an upgrade. What?! How nice is that? He also described the amenities which include complimentary rides within a few mile radius, breakfast (he even asked if I had food allergies... sadly I did not get a chance to take advantage of the breakfast but it looked lovely) and the aforementioned 2 drinks each day of your stay. So generous! And the room I had was just gorgeous with soaring ceilings and massive windows and a fireplace (non working of course) and a large bathroom with a shower with all kinds of heads and a jet tub. Everything was posh without being over the top. One tiny thing that I missed would be a robe. You'd expect that in this type of establishment with so many other luxe amenities. Robes are basic in comparison. But that's negligible and I truly cannot see myself staying anywhere else in Buffalo. Rates are reasonable, even during the busy summer season. I love that I was able to walk almost anywhere I wanted to go, great restaurants and coffee places (Starbucks and Spot Coffee are three blocks away, if espresso is a non negotiable for your coffee fix, like me!) Please don't be fooled into thinking this is a "luxury" hotel like they claim. This is nothing more than a glorified airbnb at best. First, the parking lot is across a busy street and is filled with potholes and dirt. The second you walk in the doors you're greeted with a musty stench and dust flying all around you. They claim it's renovated when in fact it's just old and run down. After a long day I got back to my room at 5pm to find it wasn't made up and dirty towels still on the bathroom floor. When I went to talk to the manager there wasn't one and the child on duty had no idea what to do. Do yourself a huge favor and stay anywhere else if you want an excellent or even decent hotel experience because this place is incapable of providing one. read more

Do not stay here to get ready for your wedding. We booked two suites for just under $2,000. It was when we were finished getting ready that they told us we could not take ANY photos outside of our room. They were absolutely so rude. Stayed a night with my husband and baby. After discussion, we give it 5 stars! My husband slept well. Very comfy mattress. There is an honor bar from 5-7. Someone made me a lovely gin and tonic. They always have quality teas and Keurig coffee available. No complaints about the butler service! They were very fast and efficient. Took us to the lodge and back- with my kiddo in the car seat! We didn't wait long for a pick up after dinner. Back in the room- some cookies were waiting for us!! What a treat!! What did it for me was the breakfast. Man! AMAZING. I wanted to eat more but the kiddo wasn't willing to sit still. Delicious meats, fresh yogurt, lamb chops, fresh berries.... So good. My only complaint was the shower. It was weird. This is a beautiful house which could use a trained manager. Service is slow to non existent. The rooms are spacious and the house itself has two grand rooms where there is a bar, lounge area and breakfast area. Breakfast in included with a choice of two items. Staff are friendly, but in need of training. For example, when a toilet was backed up and required a plunger rather than plunge it, we were asked to switch rooms to one that did not have a pull out bed, and consequently our son had to sleep on the sofa. The room was larger, but given the inconvenience of sleeping on a sofa, there was nothing taken off the bill. Room cleaning is by request. read more

Unfortunately I was disappointed with my stay. Over the summer my boyfriend visited the property for the Cocktails on the Lawn event. During that time we were so impressed that we decided we wanted to stay over night. We decided to book our stay for the night of the World's Largest Disco. Check in was pretty smooth with the exception of parking. We couldn't figure out parking to save our lives. And honestly, I'm not even sure how it would work on a busier day when there is no room to just pull up directly in front of the building. Anyway, once we were checked in it was all good. We were shown to our room and at first sight it was pretty nice. However, once we settled in there were things that were not quite ok. There was a little closed off fireplace next to the bed and it was a bit dusty with pieces of lint that should not have been easily missed. The carpet had old stains that didn't even look like anyone attempted to get them out. The bed was a little lumpy and I just couldn't not get comfy no matter how hard I tried. The bathroom at first seemed like a girl's dream come true. It was spacious with a large sink, a chair for doing makeup/hair and a cute little tabletop vanity mirror. There was a jetted tub and shower combo. The tub had clearly seen better days and had been caulked one too many times. So much so that all of the layers were uneven and covered in soap scum and mildew that couldn't just be wiped down. I showered but there is no way in hell I would have taken a bath in that tub. I can only imagine the level of grossness festering in those jets. When I went to do my makeup the vanity mirror did not work. I went to pick it up to try it in another plug by the bed, only to find that it had been sitting on top of an old soap wrapper. Once again, something that could not be missed if the cleaning is done properly. In the end, the mirror lights simply did not work and I made due with the regular bathroom mirror. Another small disappointment was not having a refrigerator in the room. While the butler service was impeccable it was a bit of an annoyance to call for ice a few times when our drinks were too warm. I didn't realize that it was not a part of the amenities but that's simply my oversight. I just felt like a nuisance asking for little things. The butler service and staff in general were amazing. Everyone was super attentive, kind and friendly. We also didn't realize how the chauffeur service worked and by the time we requested a ride it was already booked by another guest but staff was willing to ask the other guests if we could share the car. Anything to help us out!! We opted not to intrude and found other transportation. It all worked out. The bar downstairs that doubles as a dining room is quite nice. It's small but adds to the intimacy of a quaint setting. We certainly enjoyed ourselves at happy hour as well as many of the guests. Outside of happy hour, the bar is operated solely on an honor system. Guests simply write down what they drink and it is billed to the room later. It's a really nice system and it made things so much easier instead of bothering staff because while it seemed that they were there in a seconds notice it also seemed like there weren't many people at all. The next morning breakfast was served on top of the pool table and done quite nicely. It was European mix of fruit, vegetables, meat, cheese granola and pasta. And while it was quite eccentric, we did enjoy it. I understand that remodeling is being done and I hope that it really gives the rooms a face lift they deserve. Based on the price point that we paid I do not believe our stay was worth it however once the renovations are complete perhaps the mansion will reawaken the hype that it once had. read more

Nine months ago my husband and I booked an evening at the Mansion on Delaware as a " much needed treat" before a very somber event the next morning- my father's funeral. We had flown in from thousands of miles away -as had my brother and his family. We were all to meet and have a dinner together that evening. We checked in, front desk said the valet would park the car around the corner, and were offered to have a drink in the bar area. Within 5 minutes of check in- we were summoned by the front desk and told that the valet had crashed our car and it was undrivable! They called police who concurred it was 100% fault of valet who had pulled into an oncoming car. Report filed. The hotel did NOTHING to help us out. We were told to contact the hotel owner ourselves (front desk did not). He , Geno Principe , was useless. No compassion for the situation. No assistance to make phone calls to rental co to explain what happened and exchange information. No attempt to help get another car. No offer to comp our room for nite.(months later he did this at my prompting) No, "OMG- am so sorry - what can we do to make this better... etc. " All this on top of a very emotional situation to begin with. Bottom line- we had to arrange to get another rental car/ finally get the hotel driver service to take us to the airport (30 min away) to pick up car/ miss the family get together dinner/ and was midnight before all calls ( to car co/ credit card co/ owner/ etc ) and preparations for funeral were finished. Horrible , horrible experience . This "4 Dimond, acclaimed" hotel offered absolutely no customer service that day or any other after for that matter. To date- GENO PRINCIPE , the owner of the Mansion on Delaware and the Hotel Henry both ( where ironically my brother and family were staying ) has dodged phone calls, refuses to speak with the rental car company ( Avis/Budget) ,myself, and the credit card company (Amex) . We have all made multiple attempts to solve this matte with Mr GENO PRINCIPE . He did acknowledge it was his valet's fault the one chance I had to speak with him right after the event. Mr GENO PRINCIPE's actions are despicable and he should be ashamed . This is especially the case since the hotel prides itself on their outstanding customer service! This is a very cut and dry case of who is at fault-and documented in the police report . Mansion on Delaware and Mr PRINCIPE have shirked all responsibility and refused to settle this matter. Everyone who thinks of staying at this hotel should BEWARE... We all let a valet park our car without a second thought. I would be happy to share the police report with anyone who wishes to verify this story, as well as the name and phone numbers of the claims department at both Amex and Avis/Budget where we rented the car. All will testify as to what a scum this hotel owner is. Spend your hard earned cash at a reputable hotel who will stand by their customers when they make egregious mistakes! I am posting a photo of the car taken at the time of accident. Though it looks like only limited damage, I believe the insur co mentioned something on the order of $12,000.00 to fix! Cons: rooms are definitely small, but that's to be expected almost from a mansion built in the 1800s. The bathroom could have used an extra touch of cleaning before we arrived, but nothing bad. We stayed at the Mansion for a quick weekend trip. If you have to stay anywhere in Buffalo, it should be here. The Mansion is beautifully refurbished and full of character. The rooms are pristine, nicely laid out and the beds are super comfortable. They have an amazing dine-in service if you don't feel like going out for the night, and the honor bar downstairs has a nice happy hour for 2 free complimentary drinks! The Mansion is decorated beautifully for Christmas, and it was very relaxing to have a cocktail by the fireplace in the lovely common rooms. Note: their website states they provide complimentary transportation around downtown and to entertainment and cultural attractions within a 3-mile radius. However, there is a caveat: there are certain places they will not go. I hope they will update their website to reflect that. If this transportation service is attractive to you in your hotel decision, just know that they won't be able to accommodate with sports games, concerts or potential tourist attractions that might be in your plans, so you may need to plan a taxi. They will try to get you nearby, but I was shocked by this. That can still be difficult if you're elderly, have an injury or the weather is bad. Overall, I would come and stay here again. The staff is very gracious, the rooms are homey, and the Mansion is overall very interesting and enjoyable. Its also a short walking distance from many places, and in nicer weather, I imagine the area is beautiful! I am a fan of the Mansion, and it made me like Buffalo a lot more! read more

I was asked for the "best hotel in town". Naturally The Mansion was on the list of a few I named. Being from Buffalo I haven't stayed here myself, but I've heard good things. So I stopped by to check availability. When there I took a look around and was impressed. Walking in there is a "siting room" to the left and a bigger "drawing room" to the right. Both with welcoming seating and happy looking guests. I spoke with the desk and learned that they do breakfast and event food here, but don't have dinner service daily. But they will take you to other restaurants and pick you up. I thought that was great. Easy for my guests, no GPS needed etc. I also learned there were drinks for happy hour (5-7) nightly in the drawing room. Perfect. Our guests liked their room. And the complimentary suit pressing service that was available. And the more or less valet parking arrangement that allowed them to call for their car to be ready. And the breakfast was great they said. The staff was evidently super professional and polite. This is always great and not always the case. Here's why no 5th star. Yes, they have a driving service. But it's only 3 miles, and they seem to stick to that very closely, although for us it worked out 50% of the time. Buffalo is a bigger city than that. Perhaps your driving should do city limits? Or Harbourside to Hertel from Main to Niagara? I'm not sure, but with your 3 mile limit some nicer places in Buffalo are missed. And that's a hassle that was not clearly explained to me when I was there or to our guests until they asked for a ride to a place that was 3.5 miles. The other reason is that happy hour is only 2 drinks. Now I get it, you don't want a bunch of people sitting there slamming them back, but again, that should have been spelled out when I was getting the info on the place. The interesting thing is, we wouldn't even know that, our guests were planning for one drink only, but before they even ordered they were told it's a two drink limit. Weird. Parking here is tough initially, but they will help make that easier. read more

The mansion on Delaware is the things about Buffalo that make me swoon! I've always drove by the mansion and wondered what it was about. The first time I encountered the mansion was over the summer for cocktails on the lawn, which was superb! There was a jazz band playing on the roof alongside food and drinks! I stayed here as apart of a buffalo "staycation". It was one of the best experiences I've ever had as an avid traveller. When we first arrived, a butler greeted us at the door and already knew my name. They grabbed our bags from my car and brought them up to the room for us! Answered all of our questions and gave us some tips! Our room was absolutely gorgeous. The bathroom was large and overlooked Delaware Ave. Had a heated lamp and a jacuzzi tub! I asked if they happened to have bubbles or bath salts and they didn't. When I came back to the room that night, there was a pack of bath salts and bubbles on the bed. The butler went to the store and grabbed me some! If that isn't impeccable service, I'm not sure what is! I was so blown away by that! We utilized the chauffeur service and were escorted to their sister property and had dinner at 100 acres. They will drive you anywhere in a 3 mile radius in a gorgeous range rover! This is the second stay for me at this hotel. The mansion is a remodeled mansion with a great history. Very well appointed and restored with great wood accents. Very nice complimentary breakfast in the morning and well stocked bar for a complimentary happy hour. Beds are very comfortable and rooms clean. They leave two fresh baked cookies for you in the room each day. Staff from the housekeepers, to the front desk staff and to the driver are all friendly and courteous. Great stay and would never choose any other chain hotel while in Buffalo. read more

Beautiful and charming spot, but you may want to stay elsewhere if you want a good night's sleep. We arrived late on a Wednesday hoping for a nice sleep-in, but were awoken with the noises of hammers and drills in the adjacent room at 7am!!!!! The next two evenings were quieter inside, but the thumping bass from the nearby clubs kept us up all night. To their credit, the butlers were great, attentive to our requests and tried to help, but it was a rough few days at this place. Recommend staying down the road at the Westin or other hotels. read more

Everyone here simply goes out of their to make you feel at home, and I really felt like this was my home. I was here for 2 nights and from the moment I arrived to the minute I left this hotel and its staff have been the absolute best I have ever stayed at!! Ever!! The night we arrived our car was parked by the valet, we checked in our butler showed us to our room, the valet brought our bags up to our room. We came downstairs for the cocktail hour, shoot some pool while we waited for our dinner reservation which our diver took us and picked us up. The next morning breakfast was great very European style all fresh fruits, yogurt, and juice. Our room was very comfortable, the actual Mansion is very beautiful. As we were checking out on there was a wedding going on and we ended unwillingly crashing the weeding. Which was nice mainly because the hotel hall is very beautiful and the on staff cooks are fantastic. Don't even look at any other hotels. This place is excellent. We went in the middle of a cold winter and the butlers and staff went out of our way to make our stay warm and cozy. The rooms are comfortable and clean with lots of amenities - complete with individualized business cards with guests names and fresh chocolate chip cookies. There is coffee and an "honor bar" available for guests in the fireside lounge along with a big breakfast spread that has the BEST chocolate croissants. EXCEPTIONAL HOTEL EXPERIENCE!!! This was one of THE BEST hotels at which I have been fortunate enough to stay. The facade and grounds are magnificent. The Butlers (Michael and Josh) were EXCELLENT!!! Attentive, helpful and informative. The complimentary welcome drink was a pleasant, yummy surprise! The food was SCRUMPTIOUS....I'm still licking my lips - Compliments to the TOP CHEF!!!! The bar, lounge, and dinning area is STUNNING and felt like home. My room was even more cozy, warm and welcoming, with a most comfortable bed. Can't call "butler" from room phone & was given the excuse the phone system was updated (how about test that). The drawer bible was even dusty. Room service forgot my charcuterie which was mediocre at best. Got email before stay saying to email about requests, which they evidently never read. And apparently you need to find a person to request the breakfast. Seems short staffed. The painting in the bar was even hung crooked. Every detail was off except the building itself. read more

The hotel itself is a quant, charming building. However it's a lot of fluff. Breakfast is two options : scrambled eggs with toast and sausage, and a yogurt fruit parfait. For the price I have had much better and more expansive breakfasts. The room is just okay quite small, the bathrooms has bad water pressure. The toilet takes forever to flush and does a barely passable job. The staff is very nice and helpful. They take pride in their job and I respect it. The free drinks are nice (coffe, tea, two mixed or alcoholic drinks a day) but again fluff. The bar is also very limited i asked for a margarita they could not make one. The location is okay it is hard to find food and there is no room service. The bath tub's jets are very loud and have again very low water pressure. There is no mini fridge, the closet light turns on automatically which is frustrating when you just want to go pee in the middle of the night and your partner in the bed is blinded by the automatic lights that oppose the wall close to the bed. I would not stay again however it was a experience and I have no ill feeling towards this hotel. Staff is the best part and i feel sad for this review because if it was just them it's a five out of five but the cons to this hotel are out of their control. read more

If every hotel experience I had was like my stay at the Mansion on Delaware, I might find even more reason to travel - and perhaps through in a few staycations to boot! Really, from the astounding antique decor to the incredibly kind and accommodating staff to the room itself, it was five stars everywhere I looked. Checking in, you'll mount a stone staircase and enter into what appears to be an old money abode from the old days of Buffalo elite. This building actually was built for a family, with room to accommodate 13 servants... hmm, New World Downton Abbey? To the left is a skyscraping sitting room, the right another parlor with a billiards table and well stocked bar (wine and booze is complimentary into the evening hours for guests). The room itself was vast and plush, I felt like a turn of the century princess with a big comfy bed, bay windows looking out to the street and 20 foot ceilings. The fresh peanut butter cookie on the desk certainly didn't hurt either. In fact, everything really was in the details here: the personalized business cards, the daily letter written to each guest with weather and neighborhood info. Then there's the bathroom, complete with jacuzzi whirlpool tub, bath salts and bubbles. And if the boob tube is more your relaxation jam then enjoy the full access to HBO, Showtime and more. Free WiFi? Parking? Really... there is nothing they don't give you here. And then when you wake up from your pampered princess evening, enjoy complimentary continental breakfast downstairs complete with fluffy croissants, boiled eggs, cheeses and fruit salad. Special. So very special. The Mansion On Delaware Avenue is just a super cool place. It's one of those hotels that I'm bummed I didn't spend more time in my room and checking out the space. First of all, it's a mansion. A legit mansion. And the rooms boast these gorgeous, soaring, 18' ceilings. It's really remarkable to walk into your room and be blasted by a huge vertical space. Beyond the gorgeous ceilings, the room is lush - full of comfortable, classy and thoughtful additions. Like a few warm cookies. And bottled water. A jacuzzi tub. Nice toiletries. Super comfy bed. Plenty of work space. And customized greeting at your desk. You can also imbibe in two free cocktails at their honor bar during their specific cocktail hour (5-7pm) each day. Nice! Additionally, the breakfast buffet puts every single hotel buffet to shame. No, it's not Bellagio big, but it's well crafted and edited - featuring things like a breakfast quesadilla, tons of fresh fruit, granola and tons more. With all that being said, I cannot finish my review withouth giving the highest of props to the staff. They welcoming, cool and knowledgeable - so fitting for such a neat hotel. read more

Being met with a business card that had my name on it - what a wonderful, welcoming touch. We were also met with a bottle of champagne and strawberries (upon request) for our one-year anniversary. The room had such beautiful details to it and everything was just kind of perfect for a night on the town (even though we lived about a mile and a half away in the Elmwood Village at the time). The car service to our dinner spot was a wonderful touch - that way we got to have wine without worries! We came back to enjoy our two complimentary drinks at the bar and got to enjoy them in the patio on the side. Even though it's between Allentown and Downtown, that patio made it feel like you weren't really in the city (then again, it was also a Sunday, but neither here nor there). The breakfast was delicious in the morning and we had fun in that same room the night before playing pool. I will say that the only drawback was the comfort of the bed we slept in. Waking up with an achy back because it wasn't all that comfortable is the worst way to wake up after such a wonderful "staycation." Overall, I really enjoyed our stay! read more

I am really having a hard time understanding the 5 star ratings for this hotel. It is OK...charming at best. But to be completely honest you can get a lot more and a lot nicer up the street at the Embassy or Hyatt for a lot less money. Underneath the veil of the charm and the novelty that comes with saying that you are staying at "The Mansion" , this is really just a common bed and breakfast type stay...minus the breakfast! Although they provide a very basic continental breakfast with your stay, it is quite a disappointment. Their continental breakfast is serve yourself style cereal, bagels, and open fruit. Honestly, for the price of these rooms they could have at least thrown in some waffles or omelets! You could genuinely walk up the street and have a very filling and HOT breakfast for free with your stay at the Embassy Suites. Needless to say, I was very disappointed with the breakfast. The rooms are nice, clean, and comfortable. However, they are quite small. Since it is a renovated Victorian it has odd dim lighting throughout with sometimes only 1 light in a room. The bathrooms have see through showers...so I don't suggest trying to share a room with a group; which is what I tried to do with my bridesmaids. They do not really have "suites" so I booked their only adjoined pair of rooms (basically paying for 2 rooms per night). Since the showers are see through you could imagine how difficult it was maneuvering between rooms and bathrooms while anyone was showering. To compensate for the outrageous cost to stay here is their impeccable service. Everyone were very helpful and accommodating. We used their driver for our wedding night of transportation. HOWEVER, I must say that their town car is generally a drop off service so do not expect to use this as a personal taxi. I personally do not like that they reserve the right to change your room selection after you've made a reservation. However, the staff are so accommodating that I'm sure if you were not happy with your room and wanted to actually stay in the room that you saw when you made the reservation, I'm sure they would find a way...although, again, for the cost of these rooms you would think that it would be standard that if you made a reservation for a specific room that you would expect to stay in that room when you arrive. However, since I had the only adjoined room in the building I did not have that problem. In short, I would not recommend this hotel unless BOTH the Hyatt and the Embassy were totally booked up. We just left the Mansion on Delaware in downtown Buffalo, NY to stay at the Embassy Suites. The Mansion on Delaware prides itself on being a unique upscale boutique hotel. Our experience led us to understand it is neither unique nor upscale. The suite we were promised differed greatly from the beautiful rooms in photographs on the hotel website and we were letdown in both the quality and cleanliness of the suite. The fact that the accommodation was located on the ground floor made us nervous, as the large windows of the hotel would make entry from the outside very easy. When we inquired about the possibility of changing rooms (even downgrading), we were told that would not be possible. Further, the receptionist asked what we expected, given it was the fanciest hotel in town. His attitude was shockingly unprofessional and rude. Terrible customer service. Almost everyone in the lobby complained about their room. Our suite was painted brown and was extremely dark, with very little light and no beautiful touches. Again, the photos on the website were extremely deceptive, depicting rooms as bright, clean and crisply decorated. We learned our lesson from this visit. Best to stay at a familiar and reliable hotel in Buffalo. The Embassy Suites Downtown took us in and gave us the type of room we requested. Bravo for providing top-tier service that made our fiasco at the Mansion in Delaware a little less damaging. I will allot only one crummy star to the Mansion on Delaware. Please be aware of the hotel's shortcomings and stay very far away!!! read more
