    Good vibes here!

The bartenders provided great service. They were welcoming and friendly. They also gave me this great Vikings hat.

Rolled up to The Map Room in Bucktown and snagged a bagel breakfast sandwich from New York Bagel & Bialy plus a drip coffee. The spot's vibe--maps on the wall, travel books to flip through, and chill early‑morning regulars--makes it feel like a low-key neighborhood find. The breakfast sammie was bomb--chewy bagel, melted egg and cheese working just right, no soggy mess--and the coffee was smooth, not over-roasty. Staff had that laid‑back Bucktown energy; quick, friendly, zero pretension even as the crowd trickled in . If they tossed on a schmear or a better pastry option, I'd bump it to five stars, but for a morning pick-me-up this hits solidly.

Solid service and a good selection of beers. The ambiance was pretty chill and it was nice to have the open window area to hang out in. Pretty chill bar overall.

Great vibes, great service and a great big beer selection. It's a coffee shop and a neighborhood bar all together. Wonderful place to grab a drink and catch up with friends

Fun place to get lots of beers in Bucktown. It can get pretty crowded in here with all the hipster locals. The Map Room has sort of a travel theme. A bit of it goes into the beer list as there's lots of local ones as well as some from far away. Pretty good prices. A lot of beers to choose from. It has a lot on tap as well as many more in bottles and cans of familiar and more exotic stuff. There's lots of local ones as well as from over the world. It's about $7 for a craft. Last time here one I got was the 18th Street The Shield, a classic American porter. Chocolate malts and a bright spicy finish. There's also world famous ones like Weihenstafaner and other classic old time beers that are harder to get any more. Good variety of beers. It has local and foreign to choose from. There's not much to eat besides chips but you can bring in stuff.

The glassware is absolute perfection. The vibes are perfect. Love the beer selection, love the bar

Honestly one of my new favorite bars in Chicago. Always such nice staff that are helpful and attentive. Great environment to hang out in with always plenty of comfy seating. Wonderful in good weather as they open large windows and can always catch a nice sunset! Great variety of delicious beers on draft and any drink you could dream of. Will be a regular! Highly recommend!

The Map's my go-to Monday night tavern. Its offerings of draft beers are extensive and can be a bit daunting. Monday bartenders extraordinaire Chris and Drew are great with recommendations and quick to offer a sample if that's what seals the deal. In the mood for a cocktail--no problem. Heck, even the coffee is terrific! Owners Mark and Laura are wonderful people and committed to their patrons and to the neighborhood. The Map Room's a friendly place, conducive to conversation and not dominated by televisions. A special nod to the staff for being Covid-compliant--it ain't easy. Come on in and make a new friend!

Old school Chicago for craft beer and chill hangs--dates back to before white hipsters thought Logan Square was It. To be fair, Map Room is definitely in Bucktown, but I'm in a sassy gentrification mood so I'm reaching for whatever I got nearby. Belgian-beer on tap list isn't as extensive as the beer-destination Hopleaf bar in Andersonville, but you'll still usually have a few on tap here that are gorgeous selections that are rare to find in the city. Full list is a best-of tour of rotating local and national craft across all styles. No food here, but you're encouraged to order in, and there's always the free pretzel sticks.... which actually they didn't serve last time I was in so I'm hoping this was a supply-chain issue and not a terrible decision to deprive us of salt. Map Room serves Metropolis coffee In the mornings, and can be a chill place to grab your laptop and get stuff done. The back outdoor patio is fenced and enough off the street that you get less noise. Bathrooms are a little tight and relatively grimy but you're here for the beer, board games and banter. Stop checking your phone while you pee and get back out there.

Now this is the type of place that I absolutely love. I came in here while I was waiting for a tune-up at the nearby car garage. They're a "bar" but also kind of a "cafe" that offers a variety of drinks and depending on what's available, pastries or sandwiches. My latte was very good and the guy that made it (and brought me a box of fresh pastries to choose from table-side like a fancy pants) was really nice, and the prices are good! I witnessed lots of regulars coming in that seemed to know staff/customer on first name basis. They do have TV's but they weren't at a loud volume. I can't speak for how things are in the evening, but for the afternoon this place is the tops. There's plenty of places to sit and read or write. The tables are strategically placed by windows, allowing adequate light during light hours, with shelves of Nat Geo and other travel-themed volumes for you to peruse if you so choose. I read a couple articles on Siberia. Guess I can't complain about Chicago winters anymore.

I went last Friday for a friend's birthday, we had a great time, but the service was awful, I understand we were a big group, but we technically had to beeeeg to order drinks. I left after waiting 20 minutes at the bar without being served, only one bartender on Friday? seriously? she saw me and passed me by, at least 5 times. Nop, thanks.

I love the academic/world traveler vibe of this bar. It's an easy walk and I had an awesome drink. The bartender was so friendly as well, which makes me want to go back next weekend!

It was cooked perfectly though. My friend nachos were delicious there was a light refreshing flavor with a pinch of heat because of the jalapenos. Definitely worth eating again. I like the drink options we had classic margaritas and oberon beer. The margaritas were delicious with good flavor and well balanced. The beer nice, cold, and crisp. I would return... We were welcomed nicely. Service was really nice. The menu though-- drinks and food are on another level. Everything is just elevated a little bit more. We were going to order at the counter, but we were offered paper menus and told we could take a seat in the front area if we'd like to have our coffees there. I ordered the Black Walnut & Honey latte ($7) that was really mild on flavor. My husband had the Crème Brulee latte ($10), which was better but noticeably smaller. The Cinnamon Roll ($8) was fine, but it wasn't worth $8, and it wasn't heated all the way through. Unfortunately, I didn't like the Confit Mushroom Egg & Cheese Sandwich ($6) at all. It wasn't hot, and the smell was a bit off-putting. Despite a lackluster experience, the real disappointment hadn't sunk in yet. When I got home and glanced at our receipt, I realized that they had charged a mandatory additional 20% service fee. I at first thought my husband had unexpectedly left a large tip, but I checked their menu again and saw that it says "For dine in service only: When your bill arrives, it will have a 20% service charge added to the subtotal. This we use to compensate our staff as they deserve for their exceptional work. As such no additional gratuity is expected." I have of course seen this practice done at full service restaurants, but I wasn't expecting this for a café visit simply because we chose to sit and drink our coffees there instead of taking them to go. It was a bit of an awkward space as it was, and we were still going up to the counter to get our food and drinks and carried our plates up when we were done.

"oh, you want us to read the room, would you like us to play some Toby Keith or Kid rock for you?" They smirked and had no response. Upon arrival we were met with a vagueness you'd expect at a remote Amtrak stop and told that our reservation was for shite and we'd be eating indoors with the houseplants and like it. I stared down the stairway to the exit like a kennel dog wondering as to the direction my life had taken when my wife and friend opted to stick it out and we positioned ourselves at a table with an obstructed view of the place we weren't allowed to be. Eventually our server showed up with all the confidence of Sean Spicer and took our drink orders. It would be some time before they would appear. I should have ordered 4 of them right off the top but how could we know that it would be a leap year before he'd be back to take our food order? The feel of this place is that they know it sucks and they let you know with their indifference and soft speak that they know we know it too and there's nothing any of us can do about it but make better life choices going forward. They should call this place "The Roof Is On Fiyah." Just to catch you up it's now 8:44. I was a young man when I entered this place. I can now hear my cankles forming. Its just a hunch but I can't be sure that the employees like each other very much either. Not a smile to be found. They should call this place Homestead Roofing. That way they could just cut out the whole idea of being a restaurant and serve everyone shingles. Just a thought. At some point I stood on a table top waving my arms about in semaphoric fashion and ordered more Rose. But I was told they would arrive sometime between 1:00 and 5:00 next Thursday. We still didn't have appetizers but one of the servers kept bringing plates to our table that weren't meant for us and we'd send him away. I now wish we hadn't. The appetizers eventually crawled up the stairs on their own one at a time and made it to our table but the Duck fried rice collapsed at the South Summit and returned to base camp. They should call this place Roofus. The beleaguered manager apologized for the lack of being fed anything of significance and we exited down the stairs through the bakery and past the day old donuts just outside of our reach.
