This is definitely a hidden gem in downtown Birmingham. Because it's a speakeasy it's a little hard to find which I guess makes sense. I got a great Gatsby vibe from this place. There was lots of vintage furniture and a beautiful chandelier in the bar area. It's dark and romantic. Definitely a great place for a date night or a girls night out. I adore the Marble Ring. I love the speakeasy vibe and using the telephone to get in. I miss when it didn't have signs and was truly a hidden gem but I'm glad people are discovering it now. I miss the old owner! Haven't seen him in a while but he was always so personable. The staff is always super friendly. The addition of the food upon being bought by Umami and Nori is great. Such a cute, chill bar. This speakeasy bar is something to add to your list if you're hanging out in or near downtown Birmingham. The drinks are all crafted and unique. We ordered the F Scott Fitzgerald, it had some interesting flavors, something I've never had before. The service is unique as well, you ring a box on the wall next to your seating area and it prompts the staff to come and check on you. Usually, this bar is one of my favorite spots, but the Halloween event was a bit of a letdown. The decor and atmosphere were amazing, and they really went all out for the theme, which I appreciated. However, it was way too crowded to fully enjoy, and the service suffered because of it--long waits and overwhelmed staff. I'll definitely come back because they're usually great, but they might want to rethink capacity for special events in the future. read more

It has been about five or six years since my husband and I went to The Marble Ring. Recently we had an occasion to go, and we were totally surprised at the changes. Before it seemed small and a little closed in. They have completely remodeled. There is a HUGE sitting area at the bar which is totally cool, and the seating in the speakeasy is more open and much better. They have expanded and there is a huge area off from the main area which gives off a good vibe. I am glad they kept the decorative bathtub. They have a variety of specialty drinks as well as a limited selection of beer. Bartenders are more than helpful with the selection of drinks available. Really cool place... Had a 25 minute wait on a Saturday night and was seated a little after 9pm. You walk up the stairs... Make your "phone call" and wait. There is a TV and they had Walking Dead on, so that was cool to watch while we waited. Made the time fly by . I also love that you can scan the barcode and order/pay. It makes it a lot easier and you don't have to wait on servers coming to your table. Unfortunately, for them, they only had one server the night we were there, but they did awesome in keeping up with everyone. We sat out on the covered patio area that is heated, it was a little quieter than inside and a nice atmosphere. The patio faces a courtyard that looks like it is awesome place to sit the warmer weather times. We got a few drinks, the charcuterie board and buffalo Chex mix. Charcuterie board needs a few more items on it for the price and the check mix was terrible. It tasted burnt which was a bummer because they sound better than they tasted. My wife and I spent the evening at this fun and interesting secret little hidden bar off 41 Street. Two great bartenders, Grayson and Rob took great care of us. Drinks were potent and nothing is watered down here. You stay there long enough, you will end up dancing on the bar like Zelda! They need to sell roles of the decorative wallpaper. Need service at your table, just pull the string and watch the magic picture frame light up. If your looking for some good custom cocktails with a taste of the 1920's, this is the place to go! From the moment you walk in it's creative and decorative and the service is great. We went on Halloween and entered the bar by picking up a phone. It was interesting. I'm giving four stars for the design of the bar itself but the drink I ordered was not strong in my opinion. I have been wanting to go to The Marble Ring for several years, but everytime my husband and I tried there was either a long line waiting to go into the telephone box or no one answered the phone I will explain this in a minute. Well the other night, our party of 6, finally made it in. We entered the Marble Ring through the blue English-style police box located up the stairs and to the right in the former Hot Diggity Dog restaurant. Yes, Dr. Who fans, it looks like the Tardis. To enter, you have to pick up the phone then the door opens or you are put on a wait list. This is definitely 1920s speak easy style. When you enter, you will be in awe of this beautifully decorated bar. The Marble Ring is small and cozy and there is no room for standing around. There is a beautiful chandeler thats hangs over the bar, cozy sitting areas with leather seats, a bathtub to the right of the bar and light cords that you can pull to call the waiter/waitresses. And speaking of the wait staff, the girls wear flapper dresses and the boys wear suspenders. Also the cracked mirror designs in the bathrooms add a cool effect. The cocktails are pricey, but worth it since you paying for the ambience and the cozy living room feeling. My favorite cocktail was the "She Cute"! I can't wait to go back. read more

I will state that for a long time I avoided this place because when they opened they really hadn't figured out what they wanted to be. Now, the wife and I love to visit and often go weekly. The place really isn't a speakeasy, nor are they trying to be, with anything other than the entrance (through Hot Diggity Dog). Once you're in it's just like any prohibition style cocktail bar. They don't allow it to get crowded and only serve those who have seats which is awesome. The cocktail menu includes a mix of classic cocktails and some of their own. If you stick to the basics you will not be disappointed. I'd be more inclined to provide 5 stars if the house music was a little more as such, house music, rather than some mix of awful top 40 music. It's a speak easy!! I love the secret feel of the entire experience. From going in the phone booth to the secret door. It's also great that the staff are dressed in 1920s gear and eager to serve. On my previous visit I ordered the party girl which came with a rosé gummy bear. It was absolutely amazing, unfortunately they removed this from the menu. When I asked for something similar it tasted like a tall glass of tequila, I couldn't taste any of the other flavors that were supposedly added. The Marble Ring is a unique experience that is definitely worth a trip if your in Birmingham! I love having to go in the phone booth and "ring in" to be let in. The atmosphere and design is very 1920's and similar to The Great Gatsby which is awesome. They have happy hour until 7:00 PM which is a bonus too. The Food/Drink: I ordered a pimento cheese hot dog and a chili dog with honey mustard (dont ask... I wanted something sweet) as well as a margarita to compliment them. The chili dog was good although it didnt blow me away.... But the Pimento Cheese dog was phenomenal. The Pimento was actually spicy which surprised me in a good way. The margarita was very good and I liked the unique black sea salt to break up the normal sea salt you get at most places! The service: To order you pull a string from a lamp and they will walk over to you which is really cool and different. Asked for assistance on the way out, as entry and exit are different, and that was my first time there. Was met with extreme vitriol from a bartender's boyfriend, who was hanging on. Bartender did not speak up, her bf continued to debase me and me friend, with crass names and vocabulary. I frequent a lot of bars. This was wrong, and I cannot recommend. This was 2 years ago, and I haven't forgotten about it, because it was so uncalled for. Yeah, you guys sucked. Maybe not the staff's fault, but the staff's boyfriend sucked a lot. read more

There's an outside patio and plenty of space overall for an intimate date or a small friends' outing, I wouldn't recommend a crowd over 6. My cousin and I went after the Iron Bowl, Alabama lost so the city was very quiet. Street parking is available. We had no problems finding a spot. I was so excited to make the phone booth call! Soon as you walk in the booth is right there. I picked up the phone and someone instantly answered. You don't need a code, at least we didn't, and there was no wait. The wall slid open and we were greeted by a server and escorted in. There's open seating so we chose a spot by the fire place. The music was a quirky spin on well known classics and I appreciated the mood that was set. The drink menu was one of the best menus (name wise) I've seen all year! Game of Throne references, classic songs, and history references all throughout the menu. My cousin ordered the Slyvia Wrath, it was VERY strong. Not for the weak. I requested a patron margarita, the bartender did very well with my mix. Everything was affordable and looked tasty. We didn't get a hotdog but we did order the poutine which is a plate of fries covered in gravy and cheese curd. You guys, GET THIS! It was SO good and perfect for a night of drinks. Overall this is a great night cap spot or casual place for you to meet up and grab drinks and a light meal. Cool bar. This is definitely worth a visit. You enter through the hot dog place, which is kind of strange, go into a phone booth and call and tell them how many in your party. We were put on a list and we have them a phone number. Once our table was ready, they called and in we went. On this particular Saturday night, it was about a ten minute wait. Once they call you have ten minutes to get back to the entrance and get in so don't go far! The inside of this place is very cool. Dim lighting, nice seating. We loved our little table with comfy chairs. There is a cocktail menu and we each tried a different one. I have to say out of the four drinks we ordered, I only really liked one of them and that one didn't thrill me either. And at ten bucks a pop, I don't think I would order one of those again. Next time, I will stick to a nice glass of wine. Don't come here if you are looking for food, unless it's a hot dog, because they only offer the food next door. What a great concept, a phone booth in a hotdog place to gain entrance. The wait times were not that bad, we had to wait about 25 minutes. The good news is they will call your cell phone when your table is ready, then you have 10 minutes to get there and claim it :) so now for the rest of the review.. service was good but they were busy so it was a little slow. We loved the concept of pull the chain for service :) now on to the drinks... i prefer a really sweet mixed drink, so the 50 words drink was a little tart for my taste. And the rest of the table thought the same. Next time we return i think we will stick with wine :) All in all it is a nice little place to hang out and socialize. I've highly enjoyed my time coming here! It was a unique experience getting in using a phone booth and a telephone to get in behind a hidden wall and get reservations. Right off the back the interior is the most beautiful design I've seen in awhile. The dark dim lights with the vintage design and chandelier was stunning with a lit up back room to boot. There's a good amount of seating but because of the high volume of people coming in, get ready to have a pretty long wait time. The service here is on point,quick and professional. The bartenders made excellent drinks constantly! I've tried the dragonborn a George dickle tabasco, campari, lime, carrot and demerara. White Walkers abide (choice between cathead or Jameson) kamora, baileys and cream. My last drink was a Jolene's request made with old fosters, strawberry mint shrub, lemon, ginger beer, rhubarb bitters. EVERY drink was out of this world in flavors and balanced perfectly. The three cocktails I had ranged from sweet to mild and sour. Also keep in mind that you can also order from the hot diggity dog restaurant downstairs and it can be delivered to you while you drink. Overall I had a wonderful time here with friendly professional service and a wide variety of drinks.
