We had the option to go to one of our "staple" places or try out something new for lunch. We ended-up at the Mason Jar for the first-time. We were here for a Thursday Lunch, a bit early at 11:30am, just in time to beat the rush (we were the only ones there, till about 12pm and another 3 groups showed up). From a feel stand-point, looks to have a great potential for a "hang-out" place. It's spacious, descent sound system, dimmed lighting, a lot of what I would want out of a meet-up spot. Our experience was okay (at-best) the server was nice and very friendly. She was responsive and suggested items on the menu. I got the Corned Beef Reuben and the wife got the J&J. We both agreed that the fries were the best part on our plates. The J&J chicken was a bit dry and lacked a flavor. The buns were a bit dense and may have benefitted from being heated-up. My Reuben was okay, could have used more corned beef, compared to Station 43 or Chicago Deli, at this price, should have been more. Our bill came to $40 and seeing that they charge $2.99 for fountain drink, maybe lemon water would have been sufficient. Will we be back? If somebody suggested to meet there, yes. On our own? Probably not. Not that it was bad, but just nothing special. read more

We enjoy this pub. The food is above typical pub food. For example I love seeing jambalaya as a regular menu item. Beer selection is good but not extensive. Appetizers are half off during happy hour. Very nice. We've gotten the onion rings twice and really enjoyed them. Favorite sandwich tried: BELT, bacon, egg, lettuce and tomato. Messy and delicious. The sliders were a little over cooked, as were the fries.... They almost looked like they were left over fries which were re-used. The Rueben (I was told) was good but the bread looked burnt to me. Stopped here bc of the reviews on Yelp and it was close to my father in laws house. I ordered the Cobb salad - it was large and had real turkey, not turkey lunch meat. This place is a hidden gem. We headed to Mason Jar from Round Up Camp Ground. We had a party of 7 and were seated quickly. Our waitress was the best. She was quick with the drinks and the food. I got a dirty martini and it was perfect. Vincie is a doll she was the only server on for the night due to a call off and she went above and beyond. I heard about this place from a friend and decided I had to check out a mason-jar themed restaurant. The draft beers and cocktails, as well as the salads, are served in different sized jars, adding to the theme and rustic decor. The ambiance was quite cozy with plenty of seating at the bar or at small tables throughout the restaurant. It had a nice neighborhood feel and I noticed that several patrons seemed to know the staff well. My husband and I split the red pepper hummus and I got the scallops for dinner. The scallops were delicious, but my whole experience was sort of tainted by the hummus. It tasted great with the exception of how much garlic was blended in. Everything I ate for 24 hours after seemed to taste like garlic. However, the service was excellent and I'd definitely like to give it another try. read more

Wait staff these days are stretched to the max. People still expect the same service. What to do?? Our waitress at Mason Jar, Vinci, was a gem! Was she stressed and stretched as the lone server with 11 tables. She handled the rush like a total pro. The food was great even if it came out at different times. This local restaurant changes ownership a few years ago, and right off the bat we noticed some differences. It's five minutes from our house, so we WANT to like it. Came in a couple years ago, food meh and service less than stellar. I convinced my husband to give it another try this morning. The restaurant has a full bar, open atmosphere and is always kind of loud. This morning, we came in with a taste for eggs Benedict. At 11:55. On a Sunday. Nope. Breakfast ends at 11. Even though they have BLT's with eggs, no breakfast for you. The server brought water, but hasn't been back to ask about a drink order. Went to the Mason Jar on 2/8/23. The restaurant was modestly busy, but they were short on help. We waited to be seated for -5 minutes and were never acknowledged by the staff. The waitress looked like she was the only one taking care of tables. There was a gentleman at the bar, (maybe the owner or manager). We was very rude in comments he was saying where the public could here. One comment that caused us to leave was him telling the waitress that that can fu#@in wait. Not even once acknowledging to us or the others behind us waiting for a table that they would be with us as soon As possible and let us know they were short staffed. This is not how you treat people that come to your business and spend there hard earned money. This gentleman has no business working in this business with that type of attitude, I don't think I will be back. read more

I am going in with 3 Stars, I will be going back because like another reviewer said, I want to really like this place. First, the interior is really nice. It has a great full bar and they run happy hour specials as well as daily specials. That also apply to appetizers and mains. You can sit up at the bar, boots, tables & elevated tables. There are TV's on the walls, but they do not occupy your attention. The staff was very friendly and engaging. Talked through the menu and provided recommendations that were not always the high dollar items. She was very prompt as well. Food, their house salad was really good with homemade Ranch dressing and their tomato bisque was great. Wife did not like the bisque as much as I did though, but she did crush the salad. Mains. I had the wings (Wed special) and wife had one of their chicken dinners (grilled chicken, roasted tomatoes and brussel sprouts). I will say the wings were worth the 'special' price, but i would not go there for the wings. The wife was a little disappointed in her meal as well. Looked very thrown together and the flavor was a little dull. So for the price she was not pleased. All of that being said, we were both looking at the Burgers and sandwiches. We will go back and try those out so the meter may move. They seem to be well reviewed. read more

Server, Roxanne, is the worst human I have ever met! My sister-in-law drove from Dayton, four hours to visit the family so we decided to take her to a nice dinner out. The server at the mason jar named Roxanne was the most awful, rude, unfriendly person I have ever experienced! My sister-in-law has a sensitivity to onion, so she requested a salad with no onions, and Roxanne said the salads are premade and you will have to pick the onions off yourself. then I ordered my 13-year-old a cheeseburger stating only cheese. I specified no onions and no pickles just a plain cheeseburger. The burger came out with sauce, pickles, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, and I told the waitress this order was wrong. The waitress argued with me and yelled at my son, saying there were no modifications that could be made. I said well you should've told me that when I placed the order! My husband left with my son, who was embarrassed, and went to McDonald's instead! The waitress said she would make a new burger, but I said I didn't want it and that I didn't want a replacement. I then asked for refills on our drinks and the waitress rolled her eyes. I immediately requested a different server at this point. The replacement server whose name was Jess was sweet as can be! I wish we would've had her to start! However, due to this nasty server named Roxanne, we will never come back to this restaurant! What a shame! I have been here twice now....first time we went for lunch on a Saturday and were the only people there. Got the stuffed burgers and were not very happy, they were just kinda mushy. So sad that nothing was served in mason jars as well. Fast forward almost a year (yesterday): Went on a Friday night, MUCH improved! Mason jars used for everything! Still stayed away from the burgers just in case. The food was good...Got the pulled pork which was phenomenal and the fries were fresh and hot. Guest got their version of a jambalaya - would have preferred the classic one with rice instead of their bowtie noodles, just was kinda slippery but the flavor was spicy and delicious. Side salad was a good portion and loved the raspberry dressing! Our server was the highlight of the night: so attentive, recommending, and friendly in conversation. Biggest bummer (meal ruiner) would be that we were the only two enjoying our dinner on the small patio (only two tables) and the owner came and sat at a table next to us and proceeded to smoke while we ate our meal. That was MORE than unpleasant and awkward. Like why? Bottom Line: It has gotten better, good dishes available and some great service but not a place I would necessarily choose over the other awesome options for a meal! I've only been here once and I had an all right experience. There are very few non-chain restaurants (or restaurants) in the area, so I love places like this. My sister and I both ordered the Brick House burger. She said she really didn't care for it at all, but I thought it was great. I thought it had flavor and had absolutely no complaints about it. She also ordered the blueberry ice cream that we were told is made in-house for dessert-she like that, but I did not care for it once bit. So, I guess we just have different tastes! The service was ok. I stood around for a little bit until I was able to grab a waitress (they were not busy) to ask if I should seat myself or not. She said no, seated me, asked me what I wanted to drink. I never received the water I ordered. We ended up having a different waitress actually serving us, but still.. I really hope they can or at least try to do something about the acoustics in that place. OMG it was so loud. There was a table of about 15 middle aged adults--in their 40s or so. Typical men that think everything they say is funny and important, and their wives that dress like they are in their mid 20's and get drunk off one glass of wine. They were so loud, we almost stood up and left as soon as we sat down. They quieted down a little bit oince they got their food, but we couldn't wait for them to leave. Came here for lunch with a friend who was in the area after shopping at Aurora Farms, and wanted to check out a local business. I got the Inside Out burger, and she got the All American Mason burger. Good burgers, and the fries were delicious! I also got a side of the roasted brussel sprouts---yummo! Service was good, however, we did feel a bit rushed to order as the waitress came over almost as soon as I sat down and asked if we were ready to order--I barely got a chance to greet my friend, let alone check out the menu. We ordered our drinks, which came quickly, and was asked again to order. This happened 2 more times before we got through looking at the menu. But I certainly would rather more attention than less. That being said, she was very friendly. Only other disappointment was our drinks not being served in mason jars, as you would expect would be the case from the name. Not sure if only certain drinks are served in them or what, but that would be a really nice touch and would add to the dining experience. On our most recent visit there was a 10 minute wait for seating, so we decided to sit at the bar and have a drink. They have a great craft list on draft that is always rotating. When we were there the options included a few options from Heavy Seas, Southern Tier, and a few others that I can't seem to remember. Our bartender was so good that we decided to stay at the bar. The place really filled up around 7pm, but we were hunkered down and enjoyed the half price apps that they boast for happy hour - even on Fridays! Their beer is prices a bit high for my liking. Even with the happy hour $1 off, my beers were still $5.75 each. Too much. We did the potato skins, zucchini spears, and loaded fries - all were very good. On the previous visit we hit their famous stuffed burgers which were a great choice. Well, I would not ever recommend coming here. The bartender, Michelle, is absolutely wonderful... the owner and his mother, however, are nightmares. We ordered cheeseburgers medium rare and they came out well done- fine... we asked them to remake them. After asking, the owners MOTHER promptly scolded us, telling us that "they would absolutely not cook a cheeseburger that way and that we were wrong, the burgers were cooked fine." She made a huge scene about the temperature of the meat- the bartender Michelle stepped in and spoke to the kitchen, at which point another argument insured about the temperature of our cheeseburgers. Shortly after the owner came out and spoke in front of us about how we were wrong. Maybe this is a cool place, maybe the food is good- but I've never felt so disrespected as a customer. Being from Aurora, we go to the Mason Jar a couple times a month. We like that the ambience isn't stuffy, yet it's very kid friendly. The food is almost always good and it's an interesting menu. As many reviews have said, while the service is friendly, the food can take a while....so be prepared. The biggest complaint is they must have some issue with HVAC and ventilation. We always smell very greasy when we leave and there is absolutely no temperature control. If it's muggy outside, you will sweat inside the restaurant. If it's cold outside, it's cold inside! So we are totally Mason Jar regulars. Mostly because we're a half mile away but typically the food is really good and the servers are super nice. But here's the issue...since we go there so often we notice dramatic differences between each visit. One visit service is on point, food comes out fast and perfect. Next visit...food takes an hour and isn't nearly as good. This place has a great menu and if the food is done right, it's great! So much potential. But there seems to be an ownership problem. Just rumors but it sounds like the owners aren't the best to work for and the cooking staff is constantly turning over. If they would just get their sh*t together it would be the beat casual kid friendly place in Aurora. read more
