If you are just passing through like we were, just pass right on by. The pulled pork did not actually taste smoked. Worst 50$ for 2 we have ever spent. Beans/ bland tasted straight out of a can!!! potato salad/ taste like pure mustard! Sausage taste baked. Cole slaw gross. ******** The DR PEPPER WAS GOOD!!! Service was great. We could not get them to take a tip. They said the owner gets it. I have a tip for the owner: you've been in business for 30 years sorry 29. Your food SUCKS!! I should have trusted Yelp! The most recent reviews were pretty low but I thought I better go ahead and try The Mean Pig for myself. This place was recommended to me by someone that did not live here in the same town. Suffice it to say, the reviews I read were very accurate. I ordered the two meat plate option and went with the pulled pork and the sliced brisket. The pulled pork had no smoke flavor whatsoever. In fact, the pulled pork I buy from Sam's Club had better flavor, unfortunately. The sliced brisket had to be at least a day old; I'm guessing probably two days. It was like eating a well-done, leftover, dry sirloin steak. It was about 12:30 and the place was empty. As I've said many times, that should have been my first clue. After giving my assessment to my coworkers, their response was, "Yeah, I've heard the place has really gone downhill lately. It used to be really good." It's the closest barbecue place to where I work, so I hope they can start climbing that hill again and get it back to where it once was. read more

This place has hella nerve to even call themselves a BBQ restaurant! I ordered the brisket nachos, they brought me a bag of tortilla chips and a cup of cheese, I still have no idea where the brisket was! My husband ordered the 2 meat plate, the chicken breast looked like it had been dropped on the floor and stepped on! The chopped brisket.....abysmal to say the least. I want to like this place. The people are great, the service is good, the actual restaurant inside has good atmosphere. The food is mid at best. Sorry You walk in and you smell wood burning. You taste the meat, no smoke flavor. Well, no seasoning or flavor in general imo. The meat has been dry every time I've gone. The sauces are good, but I have to use them because the meat is dry and bland unfortunately. The sides are fine. We went thru the drive thru to get takeout for our 4th of July celebration tomorrow. We were warmly greeted and before we were asked for our order the employees shared that unfortunately they were sold out of ribs, chopped pork, and chicken. Recent trip to Arkansas to visit relatives. Not knowing where to go someone wanted BBQ pork sandwiches, so.....off to Mean Pig BBQ. Three pulled pork sandwiches were cold, not room temp, I mean cold (and sloppy). Meat plate for one...meat was partially cooked, done in part, raw in the other part. Half our food was thrown out. And to top it off, no ice from the coke machine. I asked about it, they didn't care. They ask for a tip while paying with a credit card, so I gave a generous tip like I usually do. Wish I could have taken that back,...If you ever decide to eat there (good luck), NEVER give a tip till after you get your food!!!! read more

I've never been here, but this is not your typical barbecue restaurant. In fact, it became famous after it was featured in an episode of Man vs. Food during the Adam Richman era. Adam took on the Shut-Up juice challenge. It was a pulled pork sandwich smothered in spicy barbecue sauce made from pure habenero extract. The ribs were dry & tough as shoe leather. Total ticket $49.35. If I owned a barbeque restaurant I would be ashamed to serve the meal we had. this place used to be pretty good, but it has gone so far downhill on so many levels, I don't even know where to start. First of all, what is the point of a drive-through window if you have to wait 20 minutes for someone to come to the window? Second, what's the point of having a phone if no one will answer it? You tell people to call ahead so your order is ready when you come to the drive-through window to pick it up... But you can't get through on the phone to place the order, and you just keep waiting and waiting at the drive-through window for no one to come. I'm afraid I have lost my patience with this place. I ordered their 1/2 rack pork ribs, potato salad, beans, and chocolate chip cookies. The pork ribs ended up being undercooked but didn't fully realize until about the 3rd one. It only took about 36 hours before I was feeling ill and even had to miss a day of work. This has not been a fun experience at all and won't be eating there again. The bbq sauce cost 25¢ per little cup for some reason, and the total cost was 60$ for 1/2 rack of ribs, 2 small sides and 1 and 1/2 lbs of chopped meat it was outrageously priced for what tasted like dog food. The sides that could have redeemed it somewhat tasted like they came straight from a gas station. Overall it was terrible food, that was priced way too high. Worse BBQ I've had in a while. The ribs had zero flavor, they were hard and had to bit and pull off the bone. Felt overcooked and rubbery. The coleslaw had zero flavor also. Came here with high expectations, leaving extremely disappointed. The prices are competitive but they're plain. You have to pay extra for anything you order. And very limited selection of sides. I ordered the jumbo bbq pork sandwich and beans and potato salad for my sides. ( I am a potato salad junkie!) So first off got my food before I signed my receipt. So they are not lacking for speed of delivering the food. I took a bite of just some pork to see the flavors it had. I was a little disappointed in the level of smokiness I tasted. I enjoyed a bite of the whole sandwich much more. The beans (patented according to the menu!) were probably the best thing on my tray. Although I was left wanting more flavor. My Dad and I were heading up the road from Little Rock and we thought we would stop at The Mean Pig since it is located conveniently right off the highway. What a mistake. The Mean Pig is widely known throughout central Arkansas and was featured on the Travel Channel program "Man vs Food". However, it also happens to be one of the worst BBQ joints I have ever had the chance to try. When it comes to BBQ, word of mouth is key. It usually comes because an establishment is so good that people want others to give it a shot as well. In the case of The Mean Pig, I don't know why anyone would recommend it to anybody. From outside, The Mean Pig appears to fit the mold of many hole in the wall BBQ establishments. However, there was a distinct lack of the smoky aroma that one expects to be confronted with on approach to the front door. In hindsight this was the first bad sign. The menu was pretty standard: pulled pork, ribs, slaw, etc. I decided to go with a pulled pork sandwich, baked beans, potato salad and sweet tea, or so I thought. I would later find as I went to fill my cup that they did not have sweet tea, that is unless you consider tea with sweet and low sweet tea. I don't. This again, was another bad sign. A southern BBQ restaurant without sweet tea, I was baffled to say the least. Our food was ready almost instantly. Upon further inspection my Dad and I would conclude that it was because it was most likely sitting around for a while before we ordered it. The first thing I noticed was the amazing small side items. I had never seen sides so small at a BBQ restaurant. This, much like the lack of sweet tea, took me of guard. I mean come on, BBQ restaurants are known for big portions aren't they? As I sat down with my sweet and low infused tea and shot glass sized styrofoam encased side dishes to say I was weary would be an understatement. And as I would find, rightly so. The pulled pork was incredibly bland, really no flavor to speak of smoky or otherwise. The "hot" BBQ sauce was neither hot or tasty, making the situation even worse as it was drenched over every bit of the sandwich's surface, obviously a poor attempt to camouflage the foulness of the pork. The potato salad was actually good, the only good aspect of the meal or restaurant as a whole. The baked beans were another story. I could not finish them. They tasted like a can of off-brand baked beans that had had a healthy portion of maple syrup squirted in them. They were in a word horrible. I strongly caution all who enjoy BBQ to avoid The Mean Pig at all cost. For the life of me I can't figure out how there are people who are giving this place four and five stars. I can only think they were eating somewhere else. Just because it was featured on the Travel Channel does not mean it is good. read more
