What a terrific experience. Our big group of 12.5 (toddler) came in for Sunday breakfast and they accommodated us in the back room with great service and delicious food. There wasn't an empty plate on our table, so we all enjoyed what we ate including myself and the Fish and Grits. Easy walk down College from the AC Hotel if you're staying there. The Med is a small diner in downtown Asheville. Laid back. Pretty traditional menu. Breakfast is served all day. I went for the two egg breakfast with toast, grits and bacon. The two eggs were supposed to be over medium ... they were little closer to over easy than I like. The grits had a really good flavor and were cooked right. It has a hometown diner feel, which was welcoming. Our waitress helped me decide to try their fried chicken biscuit with the sauces on the side. The chicken was fried well, kind of thin, so some parts were a bit dry. The biscuit had a little spice flavor too it which was good. Grits were creamy but basic. Mimosa mason jar was standard and love the price for it. My fiancé got the Pisgah Bowl. Good flavor and cheesy but the pork itself was mediocre and a bit dry. However, I didn't realize the pancakes were as wide as the plates! The grits were great, the thick kind, eggs were scrambled and seasoned, and when I asked for a SIDE of bacon, I got a place of 4 big pieces (as opposed to 2 at most places). The Med hit the spot for me as I visited a local joint while in town. Both me and my coworker order the Bodega. I had mushrooms added to mine and the cook was nice enough to put one on top of the brioche bun which was a perfect combo of soft and crisp. This was the best thing I ate while visiting. Minus the outdated entrance and bristly hostess- our server took care of us like a life long friend. I am not 100% sure what the Hash Bowl was, but it was delicious. The poached eggs on top were spot on. The potatoes were crispy, the sauce was flavorful, and I am still thinking about it two days later. Before our trip back home we wanted a simple but solid breakfast before checking out of our AirBnB and this place had a lot of reviews, so we gave it a shot. At around 9am on Sunday there was no wait which was a plus. We were seated in the back room which is quieter than the front of the restaurant. They didn't have a kid's menu (but do have high chairs) so we ordered a few side options for our son (sausage and fruit) versus his own plate. To eat I had the Bodega breakfast sandwich and my husband had the breakfast plate. While I enjoyed my sandwich my husband wasn't a huge fan of the quality of bacon nor sausage which was surprising since he loves all things breakfast. Service was good but all in all this isn't a place we'd likely return to in the future since it was really "okay" at best. read more

The host and server weren't very friendly, they had an all work and no play kind of attitude. They got the job done though. I guess you could say they really wanted you to have a genuine diner experience. Lol The hustle and bustle in the diner and the lack of enthusiasm service-wise kinda made me feel like I was just a dollar sign there. Which I guess to workers, you usually are (which I understand). It just seemed like they wanted you to get in and get out. Which doesn't really make me wanna come back that much. We were looking for a breakfast location and happened to come across The Med via yelp reviews. We decided to check it out and love the diner feeling this location has. We came in on a Thursday morning roughly around 11 AM and we were greeted and seated promptly. This location is tiny so for larger groups, it may be hard to accommodate. For breakfast I opted for their Western Mojada scramble. The egg scramble were full of peppers and onions and tomatoes and it was a nice compliment with the potatoes and the biscuit. Potatoes were absolutely delicious that nice crisp on them exactly what you would want in a breakfast potato. My husband got the scrambled eggs and bacon and a pancake. The pancake is literally the size of a plate, so you really only need one. The pancake was very dense and as much as my husband loves pancakes, it was hard to get through it. He also got a side of grits, and they are by far the best grits that we've had since being in Asheville. Great seasoning and great consistency. The staff are absolutely wonderful! We were never ignored, and all of them worked together so well that it was a pleasure to just watch them work. read more

Once we were seated it took a while for someone to take our order, but our server was nice once things got going. We started with the fried green tomatoes, and they were honestly some of the best we've ever had. For our main dishes we got the hash bowl and the biscuits and gravy, and both were just okay. They looked like they'd be really good, but the flavor didn't quite live up to the presentation. Make sure that you call ahead and get in the list! I ordered the catfish with collards and potatoes. The catfish was very good and the potatoes were delicious. I think the best (home fries) I've ever had at a restaurant. They give you a generous serving of half sized potatoes. The collards were not my cup of vinegar. Too much vinegar and spine. I dislike the spine included on most leafy veggies. I also had a cup of hot chocolate that was good too. My friend had an omelette and she thought it was okay. We stopped here for a late breakfast one day while on vacation. Someone at our hotel has suggested it. When we arrived they were super busy, which is a good thing. We only had a 10 minute wait. They take your phone number and let you know when the table is ready. It's a very cute diner atmosphere. We each had coffee, shared the fried green tomatoes, ordered a taco place w/tofu and no egg and also ordered the fried chicken biscuit plate. The coffee and food were nice and hot. Let me start by saying, I am a connoisseur of fried green tomatoes. I have had more than an acceptable number of fried green tomato dishes, and this one from the Med hits the top 5 in a heart beat. Super crisp on the outside, and the perfect balance of salt, acid, and creaminess from the sauce. As far as the service went, I had a lovely time. I was brought a water immediately after sitting down at the counter and brought a coffee as well. Despite being pretty busy, I felt very taken care of and paid attention to. EXCELLENT food for breakfast/brunch - we sat at the counter and watched this team that should be nominated for some sort of award for working together like an orchestra..... every single plate of food that went out to the dining room and counter was served FRESH and the chef/expediter would not let a plate go past her that wasn't PERFECT. I would go back to this place every day if I lived in Asheville! My husband had the pancake (yes 1 is HUGE - 2 if you're REALLY HUNGRY) - the pancake is as big as your plate. I had the chicken gyro - the tszacki was excellent - we had a side of bacon - excellent.
