I can't say enough good things about this place for my first experience. This is a pet owners dream vet. I took both my pets, Tito and Maui for a combined appointment and was met with nothing but kindness, professionalism and affection for my two fur babies. Dr. Chen was so gently with my Dachshund who is paralyzed on the backside and treated him with such care he wasn't shaking... Which has NEVER happened before in a vet's office. He is usually trembling in fear. They recommended a very conservative treatment plan with care for my pets but also not trying to push any services that werent necessary. THANK YOU DR. CHEN for going above and beyond to make my first experience remarkable. If I could give you 10 STARS I would. I took my cats here for years. It was never consistently great but some of the vets were. However I would never recommend this place now. For those who don't know, this vet office was bought out and they now operate like a high traffic kill shelter in a bad neighborhood. Incredibly rude, cold, and miserable experience. I am thankful I got a second opinion for my cat. The male receptionist is unprofessional, rude, and glaringly lazy. The vet himself acted like I was a burden for wanting to discuss my cat's tests results. I highly recommend Paw Priority on melrose instead. This vet office does not care. Interesting experience. We have been going to this vet for sometime. Leaving a review since today was INTERESTING. Dog was brought for a vaccine update and it was done in the Waiting room. We did ask to bring him to the backroom. Never in a million years did I expect a doctor's or veterinary office to perform vaccines in the waiting room. DO NOT BRING YOUR ANIMALS HERE!!!! They up charge like crazy and do not even properly examine the pets. I went there two days ago for an annual checkup and grooming for my dog and cat-- the vet didn't even use a stethoscope to listen to my animal's hearts.... well I am currently at another much better vet and guess what... my dog has a heart murmur! Also after the exam my dog was given an allergy shot-- it have been over 48 hours and my dog is still not walking straight or eating properly. The technician had the audacity to say he was in perfect health leaving and that he probably ate something that is making him sick..?!?! HE HAS NOT BEEN EATING. He has been shaking non stop and refuses to go on walks which are truly his biggest joy in life and instead is hiding in the corner of the couch. They also gave me an estimate for ONE TOOTH removal that would be over $1000?!?! Yet a year ago Spikey had three teeth removed for under $800 at the clinic... Do not trust this vet he is a money hungry scam artist that does NOT think "all pets are family" its giving all pets are a paycheck. Also at new vet I was told Spikey has a hurt neck and injured disk likely from jerking around with groomer or vet technician who administered the allergy shot. Thank god for vets who do actually care about an animals well being and motor functions and take their time vs 5 min checkups for their personal bank accounts. Still waiting on blood work and "test" results conducted in my dog. I DO RECOMMEND MODERN ANIMAL HOSPITAL CULVER. They have amazing vets. Like Dr. Z who actually gave Spikey a full neurological and heart exam and they don't try to charge you an arm and a leg. Lastly, I should have known by the tenderness Dr.Z gave Spikey that the past vet wasn't a good fit. Spikey wasn't afraid of the new vet and she was so thorough, my dog felt safe. My first experience at The Melrose Vet and I was thoroughly satisfied with the service. My poor kitty had a ruptured abscess and I was able to make an appointment for early the next day. The place is so nice and clean and the doctors took amazing care of my baby and were able to tell me right away of the costs and any additional thing I may want for him. It took an hour total for everything and was explained everything including the medications thoroughly. They also offer memberships with an annual payment that I'm strongly considering and strongly considering switching vets to them . Everyone is also super nice including all the receptionists. I believe there is only street parking, but we went on a Tuesday around 12 so there was ample metered parking around the time. Very Concerning Substandard Care: From what I understand, Melrose Vet is under new management. Either way, my Sister's cat was not given proper treatment, nor a concrete diagnosis after several visits. He has now, beyond extremely sadly, passed on this week. After reading another person's review here, I can attest also that my sister's lab results were "lost" as per staff. She was also given an Appointment to which she came to the establishment on a day when the clinic was not open. This is alarming in itself. She was given anti-biotics that did not work for his eye nor his ongoing genital rash. This rash was indeed masking a major underlying issue. The lab results, if ever located, were not communicated to my sister. And she continued to ask for help & reiterated her concerns, but to no avail. Not to mention her accumulated expensive bills. This is beyond a shame, including the emotional pain my sister is enduring now and the ongoing pain that her kitty endured also. Worth noting - In the past, Dr G was wonderful treating my Mother's cats and receptive to assisting here also. Unfortunately, it was a beyond horrible experience overall. My dog almost died under their care. I brought her in when she had not eaten for 3 days and was shaking at random intervals, and trying to find places to hide. I saw Dr. David Kotlarenko, who tried to downplay the severity of her symptoms immediately. "She could be shaking because she's cold," he said. When I mentioned the weight loss, and loss of appetite, he said it was nothing to be worried about. We got blood drawn, and they said we'd have the results in 24-48 hours. I called at 3pm which was the 24-hour mark, and receptionist told me they had the results in, but Dr. Sehaj Grewal needed to be available to talk me through them. She said he was at lunch, so he'd call me back in an hour. After 90 minutes I called, still not able to get him on the phone. The receptionist said the results were concerning, but I'd need to talk to the vet. I called once again and was told he'd gone home for the day, but I insisted on staying on the phone until they could get the vet on. Finally, they were able to patch him into the call, and he said her cortisol levels were abnormal and I needed to take her into the ER. I had to chase down the results of the blood test, only to be told it was an emergency. If I had not been so insistent on calling to get my dog's results and waited for The Melrose Vet to call me back, there is a very high chance my dog would be dead today. When I expressed frustration at not being notified and essentially having to chase him down in order to be told my dog was experiencing an emergency, Dr. Sehaj Grewal got defensive and said sometimes the tests can take up to 48 hours to come back. But this one didn't, so how is that relevant?! I took my dog into M.A.S.H. and thank goodness they were really on top of it, and diagnosed my dog with an Addisonian Crisis - which can be deadly if not handled quickly. "A lot of people come home to find a dead dog" they told me, because it can become deadly so quickly. Because this condition needs a vet who is on top of it, I have since found another vet who, when I told them her symptoms, said it sounded like Addisons right off the jump. I am angry at the dismissive and minimizing nature of both Dr. David Kotlarenko and Dr. Sehaj Grewal. Do not go to this vet. read more

Dr. G is incredible. I worked at a veterinary for a few years prior and his level of knowledge and care is hard to come by. The facility is clean, techs and assistants are nice and efficient. Quick in and out when it's routine work. They work with me well to get appoints quick and offer free parking in the back of the building. Pricing on some stuff I but it's honestly competitive for many LA vet clinics. I highly encourage purchasing flea meds and routine meds through the hospital as opposed to online pharmacy as the pricing is very similar (written in July 2024 in case I ever circle back to this) and you don't have to subscribe to a reoccurring purchase to get that 35% off first order nonsense. Also you'd be supporting a local business as opposed to those online retailers and cooperate hospitals like VCAs. Overall very clean, techie and convenient clinic with friendly and efficient staff. read more

I would never trust this clinic in an emergency, and here's why. On Saturday afternoon, my girlfriend's dog was having a respiratory emergency. We searched for highly rated vets nearby that could handle urgent cases and found The Melrose Vet. Their website prominently states: "Urgent Care - The Melrose Vet is the best choice for pet owners needing quality care and attention in times of emergency" and lists Saturday hours as 8:00am-5:30pm. We arrived at their front door at 5:11pm with her dog in her arms. Three employees were inside in scrubs--two behind the desk and one near the door. The door was locked. When I tried to open it, the male employee with a shaved head came over. Through the glass, I explained that we had an emergency. He simply said they were closed. I pointed out it was before 5:30pm and asked what we were supposed to do. He shrugged, turned his back, and went back to chatting with his coworkers. He never opened the door, never asked about the emergency, and never offered help or suggestions for where to go instead. Closing early without warning is bad enough, but refusing to even speak with us or offer help during a medical crisis is inexcusable. For a business that advertises itself as equipped to handle urgent cases "with expertise and compassion," this was the exact opposite. If this were retail, closing early might just be an inconvenience. But this is a medical facility that people rely on when their pets' lives may depend on it. This was my first experience with The Melrose Vet, and I sincerely hope it was an anomaly. But with three employees standing around unwilling to help, I doubt it was. I will never return to find out. I strongly encourage the owners to take a hard look at how they run this practice and whether they have the right people representing their mission and their brand. i'm so disappointed, please protect your pets. the office seems to be having some internal issues among the staff, overheard a very non discrete conversation while waiting with my sick, dehydrated cat. They quoted me $1400 for tests after the dr only examined my cat for about 3 minutes. They're usually all really nice but the care just doesn't seem thorough. I told the girl I felt uncomfortable and wouldn't be continuing treatments. She did give the "exam" to us complimentary so that was nice. I think vets have the toughest job, being doctors for little fur beans that can't talk and sometimes having to deal with human beans who may not be making the most empathetic decisions. That being said, this review is from the perspective of how this vet and his staff treat my fur beans. I mention that because while the staff is absolutely amazing and so nice (whoever set the expectation with staff on how they should talk about and refer to fur babies is incredible), there have been a few visits where I felt like my questions or comments were being ignored by Dr. Grewal. I don't take it personally, I don't know what the reason is but just a quirk I've noticed and really the only reason this is four stars instead of five. I've brought my fourteen y/o dog to Melrose Vet since I moved to LA in 2022 and she's always well taken care of. I'm sure my dog is disappointed in me every time she thinks we're going to the park and end up in the doctor's office. I used to take her here to get her nails clipped but have since learned how to do them myself (she has black nails) and so now it's a nice little trauma bonding event for the both of us. I also have a 3 y/o cat who has recently been experiencing some issues. I took him to MASH emergency room really late on a Thursday night and after two nights of hospitalization, he came home with a "fever of unknown origins." MASH was also great (as great as emergency room visits can go) and they suggested a recheck with my regular vet is his symptoms regress. Unfortunately, about two weeks later, his symptoms did regress. I had some back and forth with a vet that was closer to me, hoping that they could recheck him but they didn't have an internal medicine department. I tried calling MASH to schedule an appointment with them but their soonest availability was in June. To be honest, I was trying to find a new vet because I wasn't sure if Melrose was the vet I wanted to stick with because of location and some of the interactions with Dr. Grewal. However, my cat was in need so I called them on a Monday morning and was able to schedule an appointment for the following morning. Given how my cat's symptoms were progressing, I called Melrose around 4:20pm that same Monday expressing concern and basically told them that I didn't want to make the wrong decision by waiting another 24 hours for my cat to get checked. After checking with Dr. Grewal, they were okay with me coming in that same day to get him checked. I got there at 5pm, got into a room and shared my cat's history over the past month. It was an informative appointment, no frills, and we agreed on what to do for this appointment as we continued a process of elimination to figure out what was going on with my cat. I got out of there before 6pm and was really appreciative of the fact that I could get my cat checked out on such short notice. He's normally a very chatty, interactive, food-happy guy so to see him not be any of those things is worrying and to have a vet and his staff so willing to fit someone into their schedule is a relief. I can't say enough about the staff at the place! I'll end this lengthy review with giving them all the kudos. After this experience, I'll definitely be staying with Melrose. read more

FORSYTHE IS NEWEST DISAPPOINTMENT AT THIS JOKE OF A PLACE. I'm beyond frustrated with the ball being dropped yet again --and have given The Melrose Vet way too many chances. I even paid for their short-lived annual membership for a year, AFTER they admitted that one of their vets made a poor treatment plan for my sweet little 12 lb dog. Let's just say this vet made her way worse than what we came in for. And like many of the vets here--- they come and go with little to no accountability or crap to give about how they treat their patients. The annual membership was short-lived because it was apparently not advantageous for them to offer a more fair price for regular customers. MANY PEOPLE WARNED me not to come here since they opened a few years ago, due to the fact that the owner had a terrible reputation from his prior father/son practice and lawsuits, as well. He turned out to be better than some of the other vets, and apparently this original owner is now gone due to the bad reputation he brought with him. Seems they're creating their own anyway. Most recently, I CALLED 3 TIMES TO TELL THEM MY DOG WAS HAVING SYMPTOMS THAT RESULTED FROM THE MEDS THEY GAVE WHEN I WAS IN 3 WEEKS AGO AND ALL 3 TIMES I TOLD THEM I CHOSE TO "TRY AGAIN" BEFORE JUST POSTING A BAD REVIEW. CLEARLY, THEY DON'T GIVE A CRAP. Saw Dr. Forsythe 3 weeks ago when my dog was having urinary problems. During the exam, he spent more time sharing a story from his days in vet school (ABOUT THE OWNER OF ZALES BRINGING HIS DOG IN WITH REAL DIAMONDS ON HIS COLLAR) than actually examining my dog. It only took about 4 minutes before the $1300 treatment plan was offered. I opted for the most important of these treatment options--ALSO MENTIONING THAT I FOUND WHAT I THOUGHT WAS A CRYSTAL FROM MY DOG'S URINE. I forgot to bring it, but dropped it off later. On 3 separate occasions, I called as no one ever responded about the crystal. THEY DROP ALL THE BALLS AT THIS PLACE ALL THE TIME---AND CONSTANTLY HAVE VET TECHS HANDLE THINGS THE DOCTORS SAY THEY'LL DO. So Dr. Forsythe comes back in the room once I agree to some of the treatments and I reminded him of the things I wanted him to check, which he said he would do with her in the back room. Then he comes in to tell me that the X-ray is done and that the remote radiologist said my dog has an enlarged heart and I should get it checked, but that he disagrees and isn't concerned. What does one do with that? Lastly, he was supposed to call with results 2 days later and I adjusted my day so I can take the call to hear about the urinalysis whenever it came in. The day was moving along and I tried to call at one point to see if I can get some answers. They said he was busy doing his calls and would call me back. NO CALL and close to closing time and I called again and they said he left. When I asked why he didn't call, I got a flippant response about him having had an emergency patient that day..... UM- but he still made time to make his calls to other patienst throughout the day, just not to me. So finally I got a call hours later from Veronica (who is nice but not a vet) and she made excuses for him having left and then gave me a lame follow up with no one addressing the crystal that I found. She told me she'd call back a couple days later, once a doctor looked at it. NOPE! NO CALL BACK. And for the record, she is the one who handles the $35 anal gland extractions that takes all of 3 minutes. I've had to come once 2 times, as my dog was worse afterwords and would scoot twice as much. And the times I've come back --it was told to me that there was more that didn't come out. It would be nice if things were done correctly the first time, right? SO EVER SINCE THE RECENT ANTIBIOTICS, I'VE NOW CALLED AND BEEN BLOWN OFF 3 TIMES. LAST CALL WAS TODAY. THE MEDS MADE HER STOMACH MESSED UP AND I ASKED ABOUT THIS PREEMPTIVELY. I tried every natural, at-home trick for my doggie and really thought they cared even just a little bit about their patients. Spoke to the manager today also and still no follow up. LADIES AND GENTS, I am officially done. GOODBYE Melrose Vet.... TLDR: These guys are amazing! And handled my fearful cat with care and patience. I moved to LA about a year ago and have had the WORST luck with vets. Tried a few different places and when my cat got some red and inflamed gums one of the previous vets i went to tried to charge me $4k after seeing my cat once. They were saying he had stomatitis and needed at least 4 teeth removed if not all of them, they also didn't recommend trying anything else first other than just giving him some pain meds. I figured getting a second opinion was the best move so I found The Melrose Vet online and they were able to fit me in immediately. Everyone was incredibly sweet from reception to vet tecs to the doctor. I didn't tell them I was there for a second opinion as to not sway their diagnosis or cause a bias or anything. When the doctor came in he immediately let my cat sniff him first and give him some churu before beginning the exam which immediately put me and my cat at ease. My cat is very friendly but very fearful so this was a HUGE green flag! He sat me down explained everything along the way to me and was reassuring the whole time and not in a condescending way. He took action recommending some basic meds first before we move to more expensive and invasive measures. The doctor also worked with me to find what would work best for my cat and my ability to administer meds. Out of all the vets i've been to out here I couldn't recommend this one more, only downside is finding parking may be a bit tough depending on the time of day but that's all of La for you. read more

Horrible. The vet spent barely a few minutes looking at my pet, just went to his computer and nearly salivated over all the tests he was ordering for $$$$$$. After all those labs I get a call saying "everything is fine" meanwhile my dog still was having issues. So I went to an actual vet after who listened, did a physical exam and actually found the issue and fixed it..for a fraction of the price. Now reading about this vet's harms to other pets, I'm lucky I got away with merely throwing money at him. read more

I took my cat here for a few years. Up until a few weeks ago i would probably have given 3 stars (max). Now we are never going back. There were a lot of different vets who came through and we rarely saw the same one. My cat developed heart failure and is on medication and sees a specialist elsewhere (VCA West LA, amazing place and team!), but was still going back to Melrose Vet for non-heart related issues. I kept her vets updated with what medications she was taking and her status. She wasn't eating well recently and she was puking and I also thought she may have a UTI based on her sudden issues with urinating. I brought her in and saw a vet i hadn't seen before. They took urine and blood for tests and said it would take 1-3 days (!!!) for results and they would let me know then if she needed antibiotics. I said i would prefer to give her antibiotics that day, which the vet didn't want to do (?). But they acquiesced and a tech came in with a bottle of oral antibiotics. I said, I mentioned that she has been puking, can we please give her a shot of antibiotics instead? (I had heard about covenia which is an antiobiotics shot that is one dose and lasts two weeks). They said, oh sure, that makes sense, came in with a covenia shot and gave it to her. We got home and she already felt better and peed normally. They never called me with test results, and i had to call more than once to verify, and yes, it was a UTI. Then a couple of days later I asked about an appetite stimulant since she hadn't been eating much and they said sure they would prepare that prescription for pick-up. I spoke to the vet on the phone, we had a bad connection, but he explained the usage of the topical appetite stimulant to me before we were disconnected (and i couldn't get service again). I went to pick up the Rx the next day and the receptionist said, yes, there are two prescriptions here for you. I said no, we only discussed one Rx. A vet tech came out and said the vet wasn't here (Sunday) but he had prescribed this other medication as well to help her stomach feel up to eating. That night i gave her both medications, in addition to her regular heart meds, and again the next morning and evening. She was eating better. Then that second night she couldn't breathe and I had to race her to the emergency room. They put her on oxygen and more heart meds. I told her what medications my cat was taking and the ER doctor (MASH, the best) said she should NEVER have been taking that second Rx, that it was preventing her heart meds from being absorbed! (Sulcralfate). So for a day and a half my cat basically wasn't getting her life-saving heart meds. Of course I beat myself up for not doing research on this unexpected prescription, but sometimes you just want to trust a vet or a doctor. Wrong. You have to manage the hell out of both your cat's and your own health. Trust but verify. This was the final straw for Melrose Vet - I don't trust them to make good decisions for my cat, and in fact they put her life at risk. It has taken weeks for her to get back to where she was before she crashed, and multiple visits to her cardiologist. Also note that when she goes to her specialist, they get blood test results in minutes, not days. There have been good vets here but it isn't consistent or reliable and after this last experience I am looking for a new regular local vet (Maybe we will go back to Veterinary Care Center on Santa Monica). The decisions by Melrose Vet put my cat's life at risk and I am just so grateful for the incredibly talented vets at MASH and VCA West LA for saving her furry life. read more

I love the Melrose Vet- all the staff members I've personally met are genuinely so nice, and the vet that has seen both my dog and cat actually cares and asks questions. I've had Grewal once as well and he seemed fairly knowledgeable and I didn't feel rushed through my exam. I also appreciate that, when my animals have needed pricey medications, they will send someone in to explain each item and I've never felt pushed into dropping money- they very politely talked me through their suggestions and asked what I would be comfortable with. They were even able to squeeze my dog in when he had bordatella and needed emergency medication. They've always been great with me about scheduling appointments and I feel like the front desk staff are very candid. read more

I took my dog to Melrose Vet five years ago for rabies vaccines before a trip to the Hawaiian Islands. Fast forward to now--I needed paperwork from that visit, and even though it had been a long time, the staff didn't hesitate to help. I called and asked for a signed rabies certificate, and Maria, the manager, went above and beyond to make the process smooth and stress-free. I know it's not always easy digging up old records, but they handled it quickly and kindly. I really appreciate their professionalism and support. Highly recommend Melrose Vet! read more

The service and quality care provided here is phenomenal. My dog got into something he shouldn't have and Dr. David was able to successfully induce vomiting. This likely would have resulted in a need for surgery. The prices are also extremely fair! read more

The front office staff should not be answering the phone and talking to clients. 10 minute wait times and a cantankerous experience every time. We had our dog in weeks ago and it took two hours to finally be seen by the vet. The vet seemed inexperienced and oddly afraid of our dog who was muzzled and simply afraid of everything going on. This dynamic was extremely odd, my confidence in their ability was lost. As we were already so invested, we thought simple X-rays would be manageable, which they were but at $1500 - extreme to say the least. I received a call from the owner a day later as a follow up. He was nice and thorough in regard to our dog and also asked about issues with his staff which we addressed. He also told me to call back in if we needed anything else and he would call us back. This morning I called as we needed to discuss the condition of our dog and we were met by the argumentative front office staff again. I explained that the owner asked that I call in request to speak with him and to leave a message if not available. She went on to tell me that the owner gets too many messages and she cannot guarantee that he will call me back. I reiterated that he personally asked me to request this and she continued to speak over me, loudly repeating herself each time, would not take a message and then hung up on me. We need answers for our dog and the girl answering the phone is directly in the way of proper care. read more

Man if I could save my past self from coming here, I totally would. What a disappointment and waste of time. I should've listened to myself as soon as I stepped inside. The energy I received from these people was so uninviting. If I could describe Dr. Greywal it would be: - Inpatient - Irresponsible - Does not care for pets - Shallow Save yourself the trouble from coming here.
