The Melt is located next to the FedEx Office in The Shops of La Jolla Village. Parking can be tricky depending on the time of the day as there are plenty of spaces in the lot, but there are also many nearby businesses buzzing with customers. As I walked in, I was impressed by the brightness and layout of the interior. There were two self order kiosks to your left, but you can also walk up to the service counter and place your order there. What I really liked was the Order Board screen that was constantly being updated as the food was being prepared. More restaurants need to use this technology to offer transparency of how soon your order will be completed. You also received a numbered pager that flashes and buzzes when your food is ready to be picked up. I selected two sandwiches to-go, a Patty Melt and a Steak & Cheese. They were both dense grilled cheese and meat sandwiches and a dill pickle slice on the side. I didn't think either was that remarkable other than feeling satiated after consuming one. All I can say is DELICIOUS! We stopped in while on vacation,My husband had the Egg n a hole and he loved it! We also ordered the melty Mac and cheese which was equally good. We didn't get a chance to grab the name of the cashier but she was very sweet! And kind to helping us choose what to get. We also go to speak to manager, Bianca who helped get us our food. I'm sold on this place and think they have a really great product and menu. I ordered the egg in a hole which sounds simple but is such a rich luxurious sandwich. It is a buttery grilled cheese with 3 different types of cheeses on perfectly grilled bread with an over hard egg in the middle of it. I thought it was superb and hit the spot since I was hungry but not enough to warrant a burger and fries. The hubby ordered a double and let me tell you. It was stacked high and oozing with all sorts of cheese and diced up pickles. I had a bite which was superb. Served with the regular fries and a snickerdoodle milkshake made for a very big but delicious lunch. Service is OK as you just get your order from the counter and take it to a table. There was no shortage of empty tables as the majority of customers do take out. It's clean and bright in there, not a fine dining kind of environment. But this is typical for a fast food joint in a strip mall. What else ya gonna do besides eat and drink in there? I did not think I'd be writing a review for the melt after my last visit years ago. From memory they made a decent grilled cheese and soup but the size to price ratio just didn't make any sense. But now... The selection has expanded past just a simple grilled cheese and soup and I'm all for it! I came with my wife and nephew after a long day and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the sandwiches we ordered. The shakes we got where tasty and hit the spot and my only complaint is that the fries where only ok. All in all, it was a very good experience and I'm happy that they're open late. Walking into the place I really liked the design and layout of this location. Had art all around and a unique but simple setup to order as well. From ordering the food I didn't have to wait long until I received my order. But once I got my food it was pretty good but nothing crazy or insane. Just a good spot for some burgers or sandwiches. This is a great late night spot with plenty of menu options. I tried the melty mac which is pretty big, so I split with my mom. They were very accommodating and let us do breadcrumbs on half. I found my way here through their Social Media, and after seeing the photos of their food, I caved and made my way over after doing some grocery shopping. The staff was very welcoming, one being Erika who got me sorted out super quickly! She got my order down with all the fix-ins completely correct, which can be an issue for restaurants during lunch rush hour! My order was also prepared so fast; I was impressed given the busy time of day! I didn't catch their name, but the employee who gave me my order was also so kind and gave me a warm goodbye - even the smallest things make you want to come back, so this was a plus in my eyes! FOOD: Mac Daddy ($7.99 +$1 Fried Egg, +$1 Caramelized Onion): Carbs on carbs is never a bad idea, and having Mac n Cheese in a Melt Sandwich is an example of that! I always think adding a Fried Egg elevates a dish, and it absolutely did in this case. Impossible Meltburger ($12.79, +$1 Fried Egg): I personally like Vegan meat alternatives, so when I saw they had an Impossible version of their Meltburger, I knew I had to give it a try. Again, I believe adding a Fried Egg makes everything better, and for the Meltburger, they made it over-easy so the yolk was runny and was a game-changer. Their Jalapeno-Pickle mix is AMAZING, and so is their Melt Sauce. I totally forgot to add in Tomato and Lettuce, but I think that would've really tied the Burger together. Garlic Chicken Bacon Mac ($9.49): This was piping hot when I received my order, and was still hot when I got home to eat! I thought that because it was so hot, the cheese would still be melty, but unfortunately it somehow settled. That didn't take away from how much flavor was in this though! The combo of all three ingredients was delicious - some pieces of Chicken were a bit dry, but overall could be overlooked as it was still super tasty.
