The Melt will always be one of my go to's for an affordable comfort meal. Burgers, tomato soup, fries, and even mac and cheese- how can you say no? Super appreciate how late they are open! After a climbing session that ends at 11pm with friends, we stopped by the melt to keep the fun going. Ordering is easy at the kiosk or with a cashier and the orders come out super quick, usually 5-10 minutes! You can sit inside or outside, there are tons of seating options to choose from. Parking can be a bit tough so you might have to park a block or two away or you can pay to park in the paid lot for the whole building.

Quick, bomb, and affordable! The mushroom burger and avocado burger are so good and taste homemade. Garlic fries are super good too! Service is quick and friendly too. Lots of seating indoor and outdoor Highly recommend!

This place was so delicious!! came here around 12 AM and honestly best decision! Can't remember our server name, but he was a pretty girl with piercing on her face. She was super helpful. She was very attentive to us and making sure that we had everything we needed! Such an energetic and fun place to be at! Will definitely come back!

Happy dude with a tasty burger. He gave it an 8.6 rating outta 10 of his all time burger experiences.

I had an excellent experience at The Melt and felt compelled to leave a review. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted cheerfully by one of the older gentlemen behind the counter, which immediately set a welcoming tone. Our order was taken quickly and concisely, and when I asked for a burger recommendation, I was confidently steered toward "the works"--and I'm very glad I listened. The entire place was impressively clean, including the bathrooms, which is especially notable at 9 p.m. Every employee was hustling--no one standing around, no wasted motion--just a team clearly taking pride in what they do. The burger itself was tasty and messy in the best possible way, exactly what a great burger should be. The garlic fries were crispy, pungent with garlicky goodness, and thankfully not greasy. What really stood out, though, was the atmosphere. It felt safe, warm, and inviting--nothing like the stereotypes people sometimes attach to downtown Oakland at night. In a time when the world and media seem intent on dividing us, black against white, I felt genuinely welcome here. As a white, middle-aged guy dining with my 16-year-old daughter and her boyfriend, I felt appreciated and valued as a customer, even though the vast majority of the employees and clientele were Black. It honestly felt like there was no "black and white" at all--just people being kind and doing their jobs well. Big props to the employees and the owner. This is how a restaurant should be run. I'll absolutely be back.

I ordered the original melt burger, fries and their hand crafted root beer. Latisha was my server and she was excellent, from her greeting to giving suggestions. The atmosphere was warm and friendly. They had a great selection of burgers, specialties like fries, other sandwiches including hand crafted milkshake.

I got The Melt after a night out and this place definitely hit the spot. Warm tomato soup, a sour and salty pickle, and a greasy cheesy patty melt with crispy garlic bread. The fries were also great too and a good balance of crispy and soft. They had ample indoor and outdoor seating and a self check out and cashier option. They even have heat lamps outside if you're cold. If I wanted a good greasy meal, I'd go here.

Big burgers! We ordered the Chicken Shroom Burger and a Beef Shroom Burger. Both were delicious! Also ordered the sweet potato fries. Ordered pick up. The burger came with spinach but I prefer lettuce. I loved the yummy mushroom and I asked for pickles spears on the side. Very filling, well seasoned, and not soggy!

Happy National Cheeseburger Day! The Melt lured me in with a "buy a Meltburger now, get one free later." I splurged on a double Swiss & shroom burger and garlic Parmesan fries. Burger was STACKED. Nice and juicy, loaded with toppings. I could barely take a bite of all the layers. Fries were properly garlicky - I could probably kill a vampire with my breath, just the way I like it. Shout out to the friendly staff working there. P.S. - they just gave me bacon cheddar ranch fries out of the blue! So nice of them.

My friend and I came here after the gym looking for a good meal and this place delivered! The food was delicious and so well prepared! Natasha and Dennis provided amazing customer service :) They were so kind and even gave us a complimentary brownie after our meal! The food was filling and we will be back after another leg day.

three cheese classic with spicy garlic bread and onions
    Sally Z.

Came here late after the bar, craving some cheesy goodness. I ordered the Three Cheese Classic with spicy garlic bread and onions. Bread was super crispy and yummy, but the onions felt a bit tossed in. I wish the pieces weren't so big, as they kept falling out with each bite. Still, it hit the spot for a late-night bite! I also tried the fries and mac n cheese. Both solid and satisfying, especially for a cheese lover like me. I'd love to come back and try their burgers. Loved that this spot is open so late! It got really busy at one point so food took a little longer to come out but it was expected on a Friday night. The plentiful outdoor seating and lively ambiance made up for it!

    "Impossible" Meltburger

Ordered an impossible melt and I got a meat patty. Only realized halfway through since my ticket has all the correct information. Didn't speak to anyone when ordering or picking up, but the vibe was okay. They also gave me the wrong sauce and gave me a pickle spear when I selected I didn't want it.

The customer service I received from Liz via email was AMAZING! I didn't expect a follow up from a Manager, but the fact that a review wasn't taken light is exceptional to me. I'm big on customer service and Liz deserves kudos! THANK YOU! The Melt is lucky to have someone like you! Your Customer Service goes a long way! We will definitely return!

The Melt in Oakland has quickly become one of my favorite go-to spots, especially when I'm showing new visitors around the city. The location is convenient, the vibe is casual and fun, and the food always hits the spot. The sweet potato fries are a must -- crispy, perfectly seasoned, and addictive. The Strawberry Lemonade is refreshing and pairs perfectly with everything on the menu. But my personal favorite is the BBQ Bacon MeltBurger -- smoky, cheesy, and packed with flavor every single time. Consistently good food, friendly service, and a great spot to bring friends. Definitely a staple in Oakland!

A huge punch of garlic, which I really enjoy, so wings were 4.9/5. The vegetarian sandwich I ordered was so delicious, the pesto and garlic aioli really added flavor and the fresh warm bread really set it apart 4.8/9, only because the jalapeño was more spicy than pickled. I'm forever grateful for that recommendation because they make some of the best sandwiches I've ever had. I've tried a few items on the menu, but the one I always recommend is the Hot Italian. Everything about this sandwich is incredible. It's packed with flavor, and you can honestly tell it was made with care. I usually pair it with a bag of chips, and the total comes to around $18. A couple of things to keep in mind before you visit: there's only limited street parking, so you may have to circle the block to find a spot. There's also not much room to wait inside, although they do have a bench or two where you can sit while your sandwich is being prepared. In my experience, the wait is usually around 15 minutes. The sandwiches are hefty, with lots of great meats and fillings, and for the price, very decent! I wish my bread were a bit more toasted and crunchier, but that's my preference. One of my biggest pet peeves is when restaurants reduce the guality or quantity of their meal to cut costs while charging premium prices. I will say I didn't mind paying a few dollars more for their subs in the past. I went there today for the first time in a couple of years, ordered a regular size basic ruben sandwich (no add-ons) and was ok paying nearly $18 dollars for just the sandwich until they handed it to me. what I got was a small 6" sub. When did their subs shrink?? in this economy we are all struggling. I get it, things cost more but Craves' owner is not doing his patrons a service by charging them premiums while cutting back on the meals. If you're ok paying that much for a shrunken sub, more power to you. I l, however, will not be going back there.

Before she brought the sandwich over, she asked if we were sharing it and was so nice to split it into 2 plates for us. That was very kind for her to do. Let's start with the French fries. Omg they were perfectly crisp but still fluffy on the inside. They had so much flavor probably because of the beef tallow and had just the right amount of salt on them. There was a side of mayonnaise with the fries, and it tasted homemade. I meant to ask them if it was. It was very good lol I couldn't get enough. The poppyseed slaw was very refreshing and it was tangy and sweet. We loved that the cabbage remained crispy and it was great for a warm day. The fried Brussels sprouts were full of flavor. They were a nice balance of sweet and salty. I loved the bacon on them. The hot pastrami sandwich definitely satisfied my pastrami craving! There was just the right ratio of meat-cheese-sauerkraut-mustard-dressing. The bread tasted freshly baked as well. It was full of flavor. And the side salad that came with the sandwich was excellent. We loved the tanginess of the dressing. We were shocked that there wasn't more people inside, but also for 2pm on a Monday, it probably was just an off hour. We had so many leftovers as we both don't eat very much, but lol as soon as I got home I started eating some more of the slaw and salad. Can't wait to eat the rest for lunch tomorrow. We are already planning on coming back to try the meatballs next time and definitely trying their Indian cuisine! I'll have to bring my husband here next. Thank you guys for an amazing lunch!

I'm sure there are other good things here but I keep just getting the cheese steak. The picture…read moredoesn't do it justice. It's a warm, crunchy roll, the chopped steak and cheese are perfect, and there's a salad next to it so you can take a bite of that while you're waiting for the next bit of your sandwich to cool down. Do yourself a favor and order this in instead of carrying it out. The roll is warm and crunchy and I think too much time in a bag would make everything less delicious. (I'm sure it's still good, it's just *better* if you can eat it when it's fresh.) I swear one of these days I'll try something else on the menu.

Awhile back, I tried to bring as much business to Star Meat as I could because 1. it's a small business and 2. it's inside Star Grocery (which I LOVE, so it's convenient). When I would go there, there would often be 2 or 3 people behind the counter and oftentimes I would be the only customer. I felt like I had to stand there forever before anyone even acknowledged I existed. Each person would be busy doing something, but there was no "I'll be with you in 2 minutes." Finally, I went one day and there were 3 workers behind the counter chatting with each other. I was the only customer and was standing around 6 feet away from them, looking right at them. They went on with there conversation (not doing any other work) for a full 5 minutes. Finally I thought, "OK, they really don't seem to want my business, so I can go to any one of 4 other places and get what I want." That was a year or two ago. So, today I thought, why not give it another try, it's certainly convenient. Again, I'm the only customer at the counter. One guy is washing equipment and two guys are making sandwiches. I know that they know that I'm there, there are mirrors all along the back wall exactly for the purpose of seeing the customers. After around 4 minutes I think, who knows how long I'm going to be standing here. Maybe they have to make 20 sandwiches and I'll be here for a half hour. So, I left. I don't have anything like this experience at the 4 other meat counters I go to in the area. I'm totally fine waiting if I have some sense that I'm waiting for a purpose and that the worker will get to me as soon as they can. But at Star Meat, it feels like I'm more of an inconvenience than a customer. "Hi, I'll be with you as soon as I can," goes a long way.

We ordered via DoorDash, and I wouldn't call our experience "heroic."…read more The pinsa was very good. We got the Calabrian shrimp. We found it very tasty, but paying over $25 for this on DoorDash--certainly not worth the price even though we really enjoyed it. The spicy chicken parm sandwiches were not good. The chicken breast was flabby, and came across like it was one of those frozen cooked Tyson jobs. I would be very surprised if they actually breaded chicken breast, fried it, and made the sandwich with that. It was mushy, and the breading was like paste on the chicken. Pretty awful. They charge extra for sauce, which is a little much, given that we paid $21 for each sandwich. But we figured out pretty quickly why they do this: there was hardly any sauce on the sandwiches. And precious little cheese. We each ate half of our sandwich and figured we doctor the leftovers up the next day with a jar of Rao's and a bag of shredded Italian cheese. That helped, but nothing could save that chicken. The meatballs. We paid $15 for four, and we had high hopes, but they were so mushy that they fell apart in the sauce, and I couldn't tell what was sauce and what was meatballs. The only flavor that came across was fennel. Why any meatball should be so fennel-forward strikes me as bizarre. We got what we thought were pretty basic things, and they were fails. If an Italian place can't make a decent chicken parm sandwich nor a decent meatball, that says something. If you go, try the pinsa.

For just a little under $14 through online making it very convenient. Highly recommend spending your lunch money here if you're on a budget. Pastrami sandwich 4/5 It's a nice clean sandwich, nothing too heavy, and I love the pineapple. Pineapple was just ripe and sweet. I think that's a pretty unique complimentary side they're doing. No sandwich spot ever gave me a pineapple! haha The sandwiches are also very big so you can definitely save the other half for lunch or share it with a friend. I do wish that the bread was toasted and that there was some kind of tasty sauce to go with it. They also charge an extra .75 cents for takeout packaging. But nonetheless I enjoyed it. Ambience 4/5 Inside is cool and lively. A nice dining area to quickly grub with a friend. Staff were friendly but I didn't really have much of an interaction since I ordered online. Quick tip, order online ahead of time before heading there since the lines can get very long especially during lunch hours.
