We arrived a little early and sat at the bar. The Bar Tender was excellent and understood our preferences. After we went to our table, we could still see her influence in our drinks. I would rate her 6 stars out of five., The table had a portable fondue pot (the built burner did not work) which made it more difficult to cook fondue. We did the four course meal: cheese course, salad, main course, and chocolate course. I had the traditional and my daughter had the meet lovers. She explained the whole process. It can be a little overwhelming at first with all the decisions that need to be made. We all thought the Cheese Dip, salads, dessert Chocolate Dip were really good. The entree's were ok. We just didn't enjoy the cooking experience of that. The only negative I could find is the drink prices are entirely too high. $12-15 for any mixed drink just seems a little outside of average. Would I return? Yeah this just isn't my thing. My partner and I were really excited to go here for restaurant week but kind of felt meh about it and ultimately felt like it actually came in below expectations, hence the 2 stars. The food was edible, but for the price we just were expecting a lot more. I'm surprised it has so many good reviews, I just can't justify spending $150 after tax and tip for an underwhelming night out for 2 when cville has so much good food to offer. Our server was fabulous, so I'll say that up front. They also validate parking for the garage, so that's a bonus. I hear they do deals on their website so that might be worth checking out. If you really want to come for the experience, that's the main focus, but the food itself was pretty underwhelming. We started off with drinks, I ordered a NY sour (whiskey sour with red wine float) and my partner ordered a mule. The NY sour was bad. The red wine tasted very old and the sour itself was very sweet. My partners mule was also super sweet, but he likes this. If you're not big into cocktails and prefer sweet fruitier drinks, this place will be your cup of tea. We ordered the Wisconsin cheddar as our starter, and the amount of wine was overwhelming. They pre portion this out, so the server cooks it in front of you, but the wine again tasted sour and it tainted the cheese. It came with some of the cheapest, soft bread I've ever had (would've been better if it was toasted a bit?) and a bunch of pre-cut veggies like broccoli, carrots and cauliflower. Overall, felt very uninspired and the amount of wine in the cheese made it very sour and difficult to enjoy. For our entrees, we had the choose of the land and sea or the garden pot. Our server misunderstood the menu and said we could order from the OG 3 options, which included the pacific rim. I ordered this originally, and the kitchen rejected it, which I knew she couldn't control. She then offered to let me substitute the salmon, which I don't eat, with any other option, so I requested tuna. The platters came out. She walked by a bit later and I asked if the salmon had been swapped for the tuna, and she said they didn't let her do this either, and instead gave me double chicken (the cheapest cut on the plate...). I didn't want to give her a hard time because I know it wasn't her fault, but being THAT stringent over fixing it was really strange, especially considering the food is so outrageously up charged already. We had the coq a vin cooking style, which smelled awful. It didn't pair well with hardly anything we put into it because (you guessed it) the wine tasted sour again and I let my boyfriend chow down on most of it since he was so hungry. We had waited all day to go out to eat and for it to be this underwhelming was such a let down. On some level, I will concede it was probably a bad choice on our part - who pairs coq a vin with seafood? Anyway, they do offer a variety of other cook options, like cast iron, Pablo breadcrumb, etc, and I think we just made the worst choice here. The highlight of the night was the dessert. We ordered the s'mores chocolate, and our server lit it on fire (so cool) and it and the accompaniments were delicious. I can't eat a ton of sugar so once again I let my partner go at it, but the pieces I did have were fantastic. Really delicious. Overall, I probably wouldn't be back. I was really disappointed with the quality of the dippers and pot for both the app and entree and the drinks were not well made. I would rather go down the street a short walk to C&O where I know I'll get a fantastic dinner for the same if not cheaper price. First off - the food here is amazing. I typically come for the cheese-salad-chocolate menu, skipping the entrees. Still, I always feel like I've had a full meal. The Classic Alpine cheese fondue is incredible, especially with the pretzel break dipper! Their classic wine and garlic flavor especially shines through in this fondue. The Quatro and the Spinach Artichoke are other group favorites; I would steer towards anything with that wine and garlic and away from other combinations like bacon/bourbon or fiesta, which don't match as well with the dippers. Cocktails and salads typically make up the middle of my meal. The Classic Caesar is good, and the little nuts included are delicious. I love the Strawberry Spinach as well, which has an excellent almost-sweet dressing. The cocktails are all fun, and not too pricey! The Love Martini is sweet and delicious, and I love their take on a classic gin & tonic. The chocolate will always be the star here for me. The Yin-Yang is a really fun design and basically gives you two fondues in one: white and dark chocolate! It is incredibly rich and delicious. I also love the classic - which includes peanut butter - it is one of my favorite desserts all across town. The chocolate alone is worth the meal for me. Though the menu is pricey, it is a great deal once you learn the nightly specials they offer. On Wednesday nights they offer "BFFF" -- which is three courses for only $25! There are deals on Thursday is well and specials periodically if you check their website. Service is incredibly friendly and the servers are so personable as they make the fondue at your table. Nestled right in the Downtown Mall, the location is easily accessible with tons of nearby parking. I had the best time celebrating my birthday here with my family! I'd never been to a fondue restaurant before but wanted something fun for my kids and the grandparents and this place delivered! Our waitress was incredibly sweet and did a fantastic job of explaining the menu and cooking process. We started with the Wisconsin cheddar and the charcuterie board. We then moved onto the mojo and the coq au Vin as our main broths - I'd recommend the mojo! I think we pretty much sampled all their meats and veggies and I was pleasantly surprised by how tender all the meats were. My favorite was the duck breast! Melting Pot Charlottesville is situated right off of Water St adjacent to the downtown mall. We made a reservation for 6:30 and showed up at about 6:15 and were immediately seated. Upon entrance, we passed a wine cellar which we sat next to as we dined. Each booth is private and cozy and are different sizes depending on your party. We both decided the create your own. We had to share the first cheese pot so we chose the Artichoke dip to share. Each starter cheese comes with an assortment of breads, apples, and broccoli, cauliflower, and carrots to dip. The artichoke dip was literally my favorite and I HIGHLY recommend trying it. Our toss up choice was the Fiesta cheese so we will save that for another time! Plenty of breads and dippers for 2. And we eat a lot! Next, we both each chose a salad to which we both ordered Caesar. These don't have to be the same choice but we were in the mood. The dressing was nice and flavorful and each salad was topped with Parmesan cheese, croutons, and some sort of candied nuts. Next we needed to agree on one cooking style for us to cook our proteins inside of. The smaller booths have one burner for one pot so you need to share this but that makes it even more fun! We chose the Coq au vin cooking style which was a burgundy wine base broth with scallions, mushrooms, and garlic. I ordered the herb chicken, mushroom sacchetes, and the filet minion. All were very tasty, fresh, and lean. The mushroom sacchetes were basically mini mushroom ravioli type pasta that was shaped like little octopus. :) They were all so yummy! The broth was great as well but I think some meats would be getter in another cooking style. My husband's meat choices were the same except instead of the chicken, he ordered the ahi tuna hunks. He said the tuni was good quality, and fresh, but once again he would prefer to have grilled it instead of boiling it in the pot. For dessert we shared another pot. We chose the Cookies and Cream Marshmallow Dream option. And it was just as you expect! Loads of chocolate, Oreo pieces, cream, and marshmallow fluff! So yummy! We were given many dippers for dessert including strawberries, bananas, pineapples, blondie and brownie chunks, shortbread, rice crispies, and waffle pieces. During dinner my hubby ordered two Tito's martinis which I didn't photograph because they were served a little under a half empty and also served bruised. He still drank them both of course and we don't really send things back. We will probably not order mixed drinks here again. As for the entire dinner, it was very delicious and enjoyable! Because of the many courses, I was able to spend awhile eating amazing food and bonding with close friends. The atmosphere and aesthetic is fine dining and warmth. Perfect place for a celebration or a date night with a serious, significant other. To start off, we had the spinach artichoke and Wisconsin cheddar fondue. Not going to lie, it was a bit underwhelming. The flavors were a bit bland. But it was a bit better than decent. I really expected more since this is a fondue place. For the main entree, I had the pacific rim which was again, ehhh. It was a bit bland and I expected more. The meats were okay but for the price I expected more bang for my buck. As for the cooking style, we got the Mojo and Bourguignonne. The Mojo was again, underwhelming and bland. And the Bourguignonne was literally just batter that didn't stick and hot oil. Lastly, we got the dessert which was without a doubt the best part. The chocolate choices were phenomenal, and it really ended the note on a high note. 10/10 because you can NEVER go wrong with chocolate. Overall, it was an amazing experience. Cheese - 6.5/10: The Alpine was good, but too much of a wine flavor for me! I wasn't expecting it to have that much of a strong flavor, so it wasn't amazing, but it also wasn't bad. Salad - 9/10: The Cesar salad was super tasty!! The other strange part was the sweetness to it. I think it had some kind of candied thing. We had their house salad, the bacon bourbon cheddar Fondue, then our main course of Filet Mignon, Teriyaki-Marinated Sirloin, Herb-Crusted Chicken Breast, Shrimp, Atlantic Salmon, Wild Mushroom Sacchetti and lobster tail cooked coq au vin. The. For dessert we had their flaming turtle with marshmallows, strawberries, pineapples, pound cake, rice crispy treats, cream puffs, macaroons, and caramel cheese cake. The house salad is not what it used to be. I was very disappointed. However, they made it up with everything else. The bacon bourbon cheddar fondue was out of this world. I didn't eat it with bread. If you're looking for a great, fun dining experience- this is the right place for you! If you're looking to get the bang for your buck, you're at the wrong place. I think everyone should come here at least once just for the experience! I had a lot of fun with all the different fondues. I got the 4-course experience which included a salad, cheese fondue, main course, and dessert chocolate fondue. 1) Melting Pot House Salad: the best part was the peppercorn ranch for sure. This dressing was a lot creamier than regular ranch and a lot more flavorful. The dressing tied together the whole salad and made it a great appetizer. 2) Spinach and artichoke cheese fondue: the cheese fondue came right after the salad. The server made the cheese fondue right in front of the table. He poured in a bunch of ingredients and mixed it on the stove at the table. It was cool to watch him melt cheese because who doesn't love a ton of melted cheese? 3) Charlottesville Big Night Out (main course): I highly recommend this selection because it gives you a taste of everything! However, this is the priciest set on the menu- $50/person. Our table chose the cooking style called Mojo which was broth enhanced with garlic and citrus. I liked this one a lot! -Cold water lobster: tender and really fresh! It comes with a seasoned, butter dipping sauce. The server also gives each person half a lemon to squeeze on the lobster. -Teriyaki-marinated sirloin: very flavorful! This meat easily absorbs the seasonings in the broth and tastes amazing. -Memphis-style dry rub pork: pork isn't my favorite, but this one is very good when paired with the various sauces that they give you. -Coconut curry shrimp: sweet and delicious- don't overcook it and dip it in the butter sauce. -Basil pesto chicken: again, don't overcook this! It's really good chicken. -Wild mushroom sacchetti: pasta was a good side to complement all the meats in the set. 4) Chocolate Fondue: we ordered the Yin-Yang which comes out in the shape of a yin-yang symbol. Half of it was dark chocolate and the other half was white chocolate. The dippers that comes with this fondue perfectly complements it! Don't accept offer for flowers!!! Went here last night for our 1 year anniversary, food was excellent and so was our server! The only disappointing part about the dinner were the flowers. Upon making a reservation, the host asked if I wanted flowers for the table to which I responded yes. It was my assumption they were complimentary, like a rose or assorted small bouquet in a vase, until I got the bill. They have us half a dozen roses and charged me $50. They weren't even full size, and the host never mentioned a fee associated with them. If it were less money I would just bite the bullet on them but considering it was an extra $50 for something I could've gotten at Kroger was a little upsetting. Okay, so we wanted a unique family dinner, and we sure got it. Our server Clay made our first experience absolutely delightful. We were almost overwhelmed with the amount of food and variety...but blissfully so. Even our super picky youngest kiddo found plenty to select from and enjoy. My dining partner and I were so excited to try this place - we both love fondue - I mean, what's not to love about dipping things in to melted cheese! Unfortunately, this isn't really a fondue restaurant. It's a restaurant that has fondue as an appetizer shtick that it honestly, doesn't even do very well. I would assume that some place touting itself as a fondue restaurant would focus more on the fondue, but the fondue is really treated more like an appetizer to the (pretty expensive) main dishes of more 'classic' entrees like steak, lobster, etc... The only things on offer to dip in to the cheese is some bagged veggies (yes, they literally use precut, pre packaged, broccoli, cauliflower and baby carrot mixed veggies like you can get from the grocery store), some apple chunks, and bread. I've never even been to a fondue place before now that didn't offer some additional dippers for purchase such as sausage, roasted mushrooms or roasted potatoes. Anyways, point is, we were disappointed and probably won't be back. If they want to be a steak restaurant, they should probably just focus on that. Our server was pretty great, and our review isn't a reflection on them, so I gave them an extra star for that. It's not their fault they're working with a substandard menu. read more

To start, the food and attentiveness to the occasion was above and beyond. I went here yesterday for my anniversary and had noted that in the request section when I made my reservation. I expected maybe some flowers on the table or something, but they gave us a private table with a hand signed card. I was truly in awe of how personal it felt. I appreciated the general manager coming to our table at one point of our experience and wishing us a happy anniversary. The waiter that was helping us was a nice man with great conversation and made us feel welcome. However, while we were grilling our steak on table top, the owner came over and abruptly explained that we were able to grill all of our steak at once. I understand that it is a business and there needs to be flow, but his approach was rather brash and relatively embarrassing for myself; I was happy my date was not at the table when this occurred. So let's ease in to this. We reserved a Valentines Dinner for our family. Which the Valentine Special was $99.95 per Adult. Keep that in mind. Walked in and was greeted nicely. Once sit down, it went downhill from here on. The cheese fondue had a great taste but was so chewy that we stopped eating it. We were not aware that you have to cook your own food. So the food came out and as you see on the trays, raw meat of which most of it was unseasoned. As you can see in the photos you can purchase the amounts of food and better quality than they use for half of the price of one meal. The Filet Mignon was Three precut bites unseasoned and was the quality of a Golden Corral steak, chewy and tough even cooked to medium rare. The lobster tail, it was only half of a tail, the meat had been pulled out, torn up(not cut up, ripped up), then placed back in the half shell. The cheapest meat, the chicken was seasoned well and tasted good, as well as the shrimp. The next disappointment the chocolate came out, as you can also see in the picture, the pot wasn't even half full, again great taste but for what you get. Last but definitely not least. The restaurant floor was dirty and we were the first reservation for the night. As we are waiting on our food, A waitress walked up to the bartender and asked for a clean wine glass, she said "This one is dirty and has lip prints on it, give me a clean polished one". To which he did, but he went through a couple to find a clean one. Our waitress handed my wife a dirty plate, my wife gave it back to her and asked for a clean one please. Her response "some dishwashers clean better than others". Needless to say. We left VERY DISAPPOINTED and will NEVER go back nor recommend this to ANYONE. We took our son there to celebrate his 33rd birthday. The Melting Pot is a place we go to celebrate special occasions and have for year. This was probably the best experience ever because of our server Azaria Bolton! She was absolutely amazing. She was attentive, kind, compassionate, and just an all-around wonderful server. I've been here twice so far and each time the food has been fantastic and the staff super accommodating. The other reviewer below who said they pamper you throughout is exactly right. The menu has good variety and even the vegetarian options will satisfy a meat eater. This location is one Melting pot has a reputation for being a first class dining experience. I really liked the several alcove booths. If you are taking a date, the secluded tables make you feel like an elite VIP. read more

Last night (Thursdate night at the Melting Pot), my wife and I had a wonderful four course fodue dinner at Charlottesville's Melting Pot restaurant. We had been there at least a dozen times over the past 10 years or so, and each experience had been excellent. This visit was extraordinary. No surprise that the cheese course, the salad course, the main course, and the chocolate fondue course was each terrific. What made our experience "over the top" was the service staff who really made us feel welcomed. Their cheerful demeanors and attentiveness to service details were an example that every restaurant staff should try to emulate. My family and i love this location! We've eaten here at least 7-8 times and are never disappointed. The staff is so great and attentive. Scott is usually our server and always does a great job. He brings the next course as soon as we're done with one course. The manger is really nice as well. He always comes and talks to us and make sure we're having a great time. The food and drinks are delicious. I definitely recommend the lemon berry mojito! read more
