Got to experience the Melting Pot to celebrate a romantic anniversary! My partner surprised me by including the Rose petal and Candle add on to our reservation and the lighting and seating of the restaurant all led to a romantic atmosphere. We ended up ordering the 4 course big night out meal which consisted of a salad, cheese fondue, a large shared entree with a broth to cook it in and chocolate fondue all served with multiple dippers. We went the weekend before Valentines day weekend which resulted in a busy evening. Our cheese fondue was a bit cold and separated upon arrival but we were able to heat it up more at our table. Our wait between courses was very long with us waiting 40 minutes between our cheese fondue and entree with no one checking on us or communicating. I did speak to a manager who spoke with our server and once we received our entree the wait time did decrease for our desert which was nice but I wish there was more communication about what was occurring as my partner and I genuinely thought that our servers shift may have ended and we were going to receive a new server due to the wait time and then having a food runner deliver us the broth with no food for another 10 minutes. For our desert we decided on the smores chocolate fondue which consists of chocolate fondue topped with graham crackers and flambèed. The lighter used left a smoky lighter fluid taste at the end of our fondue. So I woupd recommend skipping the flames on it but overall the food was good and the variety was very nice. The food at the melting pot is delicious and I do think they offer a great value per person in regards to food and experience of fondue. I would keep in mind that even the week before a holiday appears to be busy and that could affect service and impact your experience, with the cost of the melting pot I would have attended on a weekday to ensure I was able to enjoy it completely. We came here to celebrate our 26th anniversary and it was amazing! Jenna was our server, let me just say that if you want the best care, ask for her! Period! They set up our table upon request from my husband. It was perfect! We ordered the baked potato bacon cheese, which was so delicious! We had the bacon parmesan ranch salad. It was so good. We ordered extra pine nuts. For our entree we ordered the steak lovers and added lobster. It was really good after I got the hang of it. The desert was heaven in my mouth! Melting Pot is a staple in my family for special occasions and we have frequented several locations all over the US for decades. This last experience was very underwhelming. The cheese, drinks and dessert was very good. The main course was terrible. The chicken was very rubbery and cheap, it was not fresh quality fowl rather very gross and inedible. My wife could not eat hers and I attempted to make mine work... to no avail no matter the cook time it was still rubbery and gross. We were not offered any resolution by the server only to "let the kitchen know", an manager should have visit our table at the very least. Especially when a main entree is not consumed, it should have been removed from the bill. The food quality on the main proteins was not good this time. Very disappointing as the quality should be very high. Overall with a 20% tip for three (no alcohol) the bill was $289 so I would consider this to be quite pricy to not have fresh high quality chicken. Otherwise all else was good. Next time I will be back just for the cheese and chocolate. We celebrated my wifes birthday and tried not to let this overshadow the moment. read more

Special Occasion, Subpar Experience We came here to celebrate both Mother's Day and graduation--two big milestones that deserved a memorable meal. Unfortunately, what we got was far from it. The first round of drinks was good, but the second round, 30 minutes later and before we even ordered, was disappointing--weak, poorly mixed, and overpriced for what tasted like flavored water. The food didn't do much to redeem the experience. The two options for the broth to cook were flavorless. Our waitress was kind and tried her best, but she was clearly stretched too thin and couldn't check on us often. I don't blame her--she seemed overwhelmed, and it felt like the restaurant was severely understaffed for a holiday crowd. To the manager's credit, they did comp the drinks after we raised our concerns, which I appreciated. But overall, for our price, this meal missed the mark in too many ways. Fondue? More like Fun Do!! My fam came here for Fondue Date Night! (any Everybody Loves Raymond fans?) This is definitely an "stirring" experience as much as it is a restaurant. The Melting Pot has been in Richmond for decades. This unique Swiss dining adventure is worth the ride! I'm not sure it's worth the price, but it's certainly a great way to enjoy an unusual meal! It's a "hot (s)pot" for a romantic dinner or any special occasion! BTW, fondue comes from the French word "fondre" meaning "to melt". During the cold season in Switzerland, fondue and bread was a way to stretch out meals and limited food during the long winter months! Now, time to whet your "Alp"etite! The ambience in this cozy restaurant is mellow, dim lighting, dark wood, deep colors. We were shown to our table, there were 6 of us, and we nestled in for a long evening. As we perused the menus, most of our party was a tad confused. Six people, 2 burners, and the menu outlined "meals for two". After some math equations (I thought I'd left that behind in high school) and some clarification from the gracious manager, we calculated our order! We decided upon two orders, $95 each order, of the "The Complete Experience for Two" (split 6 ways which saved us $95) a Four Course Dinner, which included the first course: a traditional cheese fondue course with your choice of cheeses and accompanied by artisan breads, veggies, and fruit. We picked the Wisconsin cheddar & the Quattro Formaggio. Second course: choice of salad, our picks were the Caprese and the California salads. Nice and fresh. Next up was the 3rd course: choices of meats/seafood. We ordered the Steak Lovers entrée which came with several different cuts of beef; the Land and Sea, a combo of shrimp, chicken, garlic pepper steak & Atlantic salmon; and the Pacific Rim which had shrimp, chicken potstickers, tuna, steak and duck. You also choose how you want to cook your meats. Yep, the entrées come raw and you cook your own food! Boiling pots of broth to dip your entrée in! The skewers are colored coded so you know which one is which. All in all, the meats were average. Nothing to write home about, but it was interesting to "cook" your own proteins! Last 4th course: Dessert fondue - we chose the dark chocolate pot and the chocolate/peanut butter pot, served with a platter of fruits, rice krispy treats, brownies, blondies, pound cake and marshmallows. The desserts were my fav part of the whole shebang! Don't mind if I fondue! We "skinny dipped" through each course, and our server, Cara, was patient and friendly. Some people don't like my puns, but I'm quite fondue of them! Our drinks were spot on, their bar is pretty good, cranking out beer, wine, mixed drinks and coffee beverages! This is truly a "dining" experience - no fast food here - it was long! It took us about 3 1/2 hours to get through all the courses! I suspect since we are familiar with the menu now, we could do it in about 2-2 1/2. Although I had a great time, and I'm glad we came, to me, this place is a "one and done". My husband and I had a reservation this past Valentine's Day and were extremely disappointed in a few things, such as the wait time to be seated and service. Firstly, we stood around waiting to be seated for 20 minutes (again, with a reservation). Also, with it being my first time at The Melting Pot, I was looking forward to the full experience. However, the cheese was melted prior to being served. It also took our waitress 25 minutes to return to our table to request a drink refill. If you haven't been here or had fondue it's a very unique experience. We had 4 people and we did all the courses. Everything was very good including the salads. The meat itself is great quality (which is especially easy to see when served raw for you to cook). If we went back we would just want to do cheese and chocolate. I think the time and effort to cook the meat was not something we feel the need to do again. We got the Alpine Cheese which everyone enjoyed- I am the only one who noticed there was one specific cheese in it that would make me order something different next time. Everyone ordered the Meat Lover's meal and, as I said before, the meat was great quality. We had to ask for several portions of the veggies because there was basically one mushroom, potato, and piece of broccoli for each person. The chocolate order was Dark and Dolce- truly delicious. If you want to try more than just one cheese/broth/chocolate make sure to go with 5 or more people because there is only one burner on tables for 4 or less. The broccoli was okay and everything else was not for me personally. The charcuterie in my opinion is a waste of money. The meat was very good and the bread chips it came with were good as well. As for the olives, pickles, and mustard, it was mid and ended up not getting eaten. The jam that it did come with was spectacular. As for the salads, mine was a valentines special and it was a nice change of pace but could've used a lot more dressing. The salad as whole was very fresh. My girlfriend's was much better in my opinion. The Parmesan and nuts added the flavor mine was missing. As for dessert, the chocolate peanut butter that we got was absolutely incredible. It's pretty much a Reese's melted down. The dippers it came with was all it needed. The Rice Krispies and fruit were my favorite whereas my girlfriend favored the pound cake and brownies. They too were good in my opinion. The sweet additions were TERRIBLE. I almost gave it a three stars just because of them. The macaroons were bland and paired terrible with any chocolate. The cream puffs were the worse thing we had besides the carrots and olives. The cheesecake was good but you get a sliver of it. With that being said, that addition missed on almost every level. The quantity of food in my opinion isn't worth the price. Not to mention, or waitress was late on a lot of things. She was extremely slow to fill up waters and took even longer to bring out extra bread for our cheese. My family & I visit this Melting Pot at least once a year, for the last 10 years. Seen the menu go through many changes & how the food is served. The BEST change they ever made was PRE-MELTING the fondues (cheese and choc) before bringing it to the tables' hot plates. It does take away the charm of melting cheese and beer, but it turns your previous 3 hour dinner, into 2. The menu has recently been revamped (after Feb 2020), and its much easier to read. The restaurant lighting is low and cozy, which makes it harder to read the menu, but the increased font size, does help quite a bit. This restaurant also is very GLUTEN FREE-FRIENDLY. A must when you have a mix of GF and non-GF diners. You can book reservations online very easily, and I highly suggest on weekends, especially with the decreased capacity. Lastly, the Melting Pot can accommodate a large range of parties. From 1 to a party of ~12. We love this restaurant & will continue to go on special occasions read more

Man, this place has really gone down hill. My wife and I have been coming here for years for our anniversary, and it's always a very pleasant experience. We had dinner there last night, and boy, it was really not up to par. I mean, it's not like any of this ruined our evening or anything, but for what has typically been an "upscale" experience, last night was a disappointment. Our server, who's name I didn't catch, because she never introduced herself, would maybe have fit in better an an IHOP. She was not attentive, had to be asked about my wife's drink twice, overflowed both of my beers on the table, didn't give any of the usual spiel about how anything works, never cautioned us about hot surfaces, none of the usual pleasantries, etc. I ate the 2nd half of my meal with no drink, because she never came to check on us, and even when delivering food to neighboring tables, she didn't ask if we needed anything, or even make eye contact so we could grab her attention. The dippers for the cheese fondue seem to have been paired down since our last visit. The only bread was pretzel, and we had 4 small pieces of broccoli, 3 small pieces of cauliflower, a few carrots, and a few apples. There used to be plenty of veggies, and multiple types of bread. Not anymore. The salads were delicious, but could have used more dressing. Why didn't I just ask fore more you ask? Well, I would have if our server had checked on us at all. The meat ranged from delicious to inedible. The quality has clearly been downgraded. Previous sirloin choices are now generically "steak". Several pieces had clearly not been well trimmed, with large pieces of fat, and two pieces of pork were inedibley chewy. Don't get me wrong, most of it was quite tasty, but this was just another glaring indicator of a decline in quality. The chocolate was excellent as always. I did have to try it first though, because my wife has a peanut allergy, and while ordering our "Pure Milk Chocolate", the server kept repeating back to us "Original Milk Chocolate", which is chocolate and peanut butter. Turns out she did get it right, but even after explaining the peanut allergy and that the "Original" has peanut butter in it, that's how she kept referring to it. Not confidence inspiring. The ambiance is still quite nice, but the obvious decline in quality extends to the facility as well. Our seat was ripped, which again, is a very small issue, but not something you would ever find in somewhere that's supposed to be an upscale restaurant. The tines of my dinner fork were badly bent, and multiple plates were chipped. Fine for an Applebees, not for The Melting Pot. The bathrooms in particular were in serious need of assistance. It's might as well have been a gas station restroom. The floors were unbelievably sticky. I mean, like 1980s movie theater floor sticky. There was a bucket with dirty water and a plunger in the stall, there was trash on the floor, the toilet paper dispenser was smashed and missing pieces, there was some random and unsightly air freshener thing just tossed over the stall wall at face level, there was a large, sharp screw protruding pointy end first from the wall, and the sink area was an absolute mess. Did we have a nice dinner? On the whole, yes, it was a fine dinner, but only because the company was good, otherwise we might just as well have gone to an Olive Garden, at least the wait staff there are attentive. read more

Henrico Restaurant Week for the win! $30 for a three course dinner was AMAZING. Every bite, whether during the cheese course, entree, or dessert, was phenomenal. We tried the Old Bay cheese, which I expected to have more kick but was still great. The six different dipping sauces for the meat selection (4 pieces of filet mignon, 4 of herb-crusted chicken, and 4 shrimp, plus 2 mushroom ravioli) were a big hit at our table, especially the magnificent GREEN GODDESS. Could take a bath in that yummyness. Last but not least, we went with the Original chocolate. It's mixed with crunchy peanut butter and tastes similar to a Reese's. Our waitress, Amelia, was super nice and helpful with running us through the ropes (how many minutes to cook the meat, etc) and getting us any extras for dipping that we ran out of (the blondies are addicting!) I would give this visit a 3 star due to the lack of service, but when I combine it with other visits, it's a 4. We did the set menu for Vday, and it was excellent as always. Plenty of food, and you can get bottomless dippers (except for meat). Our server was obviously new, and inexperienced, which is understandable, but it's really on the managers to train their teams correctly. Our drinks sat empty for over 15 minutes twice, we ended up leaving a ton of chocolate unused because he never came back for us to ask for more dippers, he brought us the wrong bill, and never gave us our $25 gift card (we did call the restaurant, and they offered to mail it.) My girlfriend and I decided to go here for our monthly date night and it was a great experience. I've been to few Melting Pots in the north east, but this was my first experience in VA and it was definitely a night to remember. We went with the fiesta cheese, steak lovers with coq au vin as our broth and ended it with the ying & yang for dessert. It was my girlfriend's first time trying this chain out and she really enjoyed it. The staff were professional, food was delicious, but don't forget to make reservations. Everyone is separated by their own booths so don't worry too much about COVID considerations, especially since everyone has to wear a mask if they aren't seated. The facilities were clean and ample amounts of parking. If you're a Yelp member don't forget to check it. As you can see from the photos, you get a box of strawberries dipped in chocolate as part of your perk. Totally recommend this place for a night out. I came here with Avery to celebrate his 21st birthday, and I had bought a Groupon package deal that came with two four-course dinners, a bouquet of roses, a photo, and a $20 gift certificate for a future visit. It was a stellar deal! I had heard of Melting Pot before, but this was my first visit. Everyone was super friendly from the moment we entered. Our waitress was super down-to-earth and conversational throughout the whole meal. The owner/manager also stopped by our table to personally welcome us at one point. The restaurant itself is a bit dark, but the booths are fun and the two person corner booth was very unique. We loved the trio cheese we ordered, with the veggies and bread to dip. The salads were phenomenal (house and California). The main entrees were great and of extremely high quality. The broth (coq au vin) was amazing! Vegetables for the main course were great, and we refilled two more times. Finally, the dessert chocolate (yin and yang) was super fun, and our waitress even let us get seconds of strawberries & bananas! Our package also came with a box of six chocolate-dipped whole strawberries! The portions are somewhat on the smaller side, but I was comfortably full after all four courses. Yes, the food is not cheap either, but you get what you pay for, and the restaurant is listed as $$$ after all. It's Henricos restaurant week and I got an email from the melting pot saying they had a deal going on. For lunch it was $15 for cheese/dessert and $30 for cheese/meat/dessert! I hadn't been in years, so I figure why not! We ordered the Wisconsin cheese, which was very good! It came with all the fixings (cauliflower, carrots, apples, bread etc). For the second course, we ordered the Caribbean flavored broth. It was really good but kind of salty for our palates. I got the meats and my friend got the veggie and pasta meal. For dessert, we ordered the s'mores milk chocolate! That was the best part! They flambé the chocolate and the desserts are unlimited if you run out. Get ready to stuff your face! I always do their four course experience to make sure I get everything! Sit at the table with the burner in front of you and be ready to get served! You start with the cheese fondue. My favorite is the spinach and artichoke or the Wisconsin cheddar. You get a variety of dippers like bread, pretzels, apples, chips, broccoli etc. Next course is the salad. The house salad is delicious with their peppercorn ranch dressing! For the entree you choose a cooking style which is your broth that you boil your food in. I highly recommend the coq au vin. It's a wine and garlic broth with broccoli potato and mushrooms. After a while the veggies just soak up all that flavor. Based on what you want you can either choose from a set list of meats or you can choose your own by picking either 3 or 4 items. I recommend any and all of the beef items. The premium filet is bland but I like to sprinkle their garlic wine seasoning on it before cooking it and it's amazing. So tender. There is also a bunch of different sauces you can dip in. The wild mushroom sachetti is also one of my favorites. It's a mushroom stuffed pasta. Now time for the dessert! I have never actually been able to eat this at the restaurant by the time I finish the first 3 courses but they have no problem packing it up for you and give you instructions to heat it at home. My favorite is the turtle fondue! The only complaint I have about this place is the drinks. They don't seem to be very consistent and they seriously lack alcohol. The table next to us was actually saying the exact same thing so I know I'm not just a heavy pourer. It's a new great experience for sure.....we really enjoyed the environment and the service. Our server was Shawn, he was very professional and helped us enjoy our first time dining. The food was very high quality and testy. However, I expected more food, we were told it will be a lot food Food that we won't be able to finish. But, for that money we paid, I was disappointed on the amount of food we got. I literally filled my stomach with dessert because food wasn't enough to fill me. Long dining also something I didn't enjoy, we spent 3 hours in the restaurant to have our four course meal to cook and eat. In conclusion, I would probably get more food with the same amount of money from somewhere else. read more
