Very tasty new place in Morristown. Had lunch with a couple of savory crepes and Spanish latte and matcha latte.

Stirling Tavern is a casual but polished neighborhood bar and grill with a trendy aesthetic and a…read morecozy ambiance; a menu featuring classic pub favorites elevated a notch above your average bar fare with gourmet ingredients; an innovative and seasonally-updated adult beverage program; and attentive and friendly service. The space on the first floor is divided into a lively bar area with plenty of TVs and a slightly quieter main dining room with comfortable booths and tables. There is also seating on an outdoor terrace on the second floor and a few tables in front of the restaurant on South Street if you're up for dining al fresco. It's a terrific option in Morristown that's sophisticated enough for a date on the outdoor terrace when the weather cooperates or a pre-theater meal in the dining room, yet casual enough for beers and appetizers while watching a game in the bar area. The menu captures the essence of modern American comfort food. Whether you're grabbing the Stirling Burger ($18) -- made from a tasty short rib and brisket blend -- or splurging on the Grilled New York Strip ($48) topped with crabmeat fries, the quality is evident. They are also great with dietary restrictions. Between the various poultry, fish, and vegetarian options on the menu and the kitchen's willingness to make moderate accommodations in any other dish, there's something for everyone. What really makes this place stand out, though, is the service. We recently celebrated my niece's 21st birthday here, and our server made it memorable by honoring her milestone birthday by playfully asking for her ID EVERY SINGLE TIME she ordered a drink. It became a running joke for the night and made the occasion feel extra special. The only reason it's not a full 5 stars for me is that both sides of the main floor can get pretty loud when it's packed and the prices are a bit on the higher side for casual dining. We will definitely be back! PRO TIP #1: Stirling Tavern offers a Happy Hour Monday through Friday between 3pm and 6pm, which features specials on certain cocktails, wines, beers, and light snacks. You must be seated at the bar to take advantage of the promotional pricing. If you enjoy a good Old Fashioned, try the JB ($10), made with Four Roses bourbon, blood orange amaro, orange & angostura bitters. PRO TIP #2: Stirling Tavern does not have a private parking lot, but there is plenty of paid on-street parking on South Street or Maple Avenue. Bring change or use the ParkMobile app for the meters ($1 per hour) Monday through Saturday from 8am til 6PM; all street meters are free Monday through Saturday after 6pm and all day on Sunday. If you can't find a spot on the street, paid parking is also available in the Morristown Parking Authority Lot #8 (@ 10 Franklin Street) and Vail Parking Area (@ 110 South Street). FREE on-street parking is located on MacCulloch Avenue, just two blocks from Stirling Tavern.

Really nice waiter, too; attentive and patient! Cons: long wait for the table and our French press coffee ended up having a decent amount of grounds come through the filter. Good flavor though? Would go back but definitely will get my name on the waitlist first, or go for lunch. Place seemed to empty out around 1:30pm.

We ordered the cookie hot chocolate, blondie, and the kids got orange juice. For food we got the shrimp and grits, Cuban, chicken tenders, pork sausage, and grilled cheese. All except the shrimp and sausage came with potatoes. The potatoes were good but some were not fully cooked so they were a little hard. The shrimp and grits was tasty and the cornbread it came with was good too. The Cuban was different than other places but still good. My daughter loved her tenders. My son ate almost his whole grilled cheese. My littlest one loved the pork sausage I had to order a 2nd order. Waiting staff was pleasant and attentive. Lots of tables and good for groups and small parties. All and all good experience but next time I would send the potatoes back.

Hardly anyone there so the bartender comes over to take the order despite a bunch of employees standing around and chatting. I would rather have a dedicated waiter / waitress. I see another group of employees all seated at a booth all talking. Makes no sense. We ordered but the Apps and the main course came out all at once before we even got our drinks. Not a big deal. One of my kids wanted some salt for her mac & cheese. Bartender never came back to ask how everything came out. Multiple people loafing around and waking past but I couldn't get anyone's attention for the salt. I asked someone who said we aren't his table and kept walking. I saw this guy up by the bar - collared shirt - looked like a manager. I waved at him and he looked at me and just shook his head and went back to talking to some other bar back.    I was beyond pissed and finally the older manager lady happened to walk by. I said who is that guy in the collared shirt - oh he works here but hasn't started his shift yet. Yea well I just wanted the salt shaker if he bothered to take 2 seconds and see. Or he could have gotten someone else's attention but he didn't, he just blew me off. But the Manager made no attempt to really apologize or ask what she could do. Then our drinks are empty for awhile- none came by to see if we wanted another round. Eventually I'm waving at the bartender who finally comes over and I ask for a 2nd round. Then he forgets about making them and spends 15 mins talking with other employees and doing whatever before I wave at him again. He gives me the nod and The drinks finally come but no limes like the previous round. Honestly I was done - might have stayed longer but with our kids it was time to go. Finally I've included a photo of our view of these diligent employees that are obviously too busy to worry about service or the perception of how things look from a customers point of view. The food wasn't bad but honestly the experience wasn't great. We won't be back.

The staff was friendly and patient when we decided on what to order. Five items were tried, and each will be described below. Black & White Cookie ($4.50) - This was a traditional sweet that was done right. There was a nice balance of the chocolate and vanilla flavoring while the cookie was not too soft or hard. Chocolate & Vanilla Pretzel ($5.50) - This was very interesting. It was not overly sweet and was large. It was just a different type of pretzel. It was a tad dry, but not bad. Pumpkin Donut ($3) - This had a nice texture, but the actual donut did not have enough sugar I thought. The pumpkin frosting was just right though. Cinabun ($5) - This was very solid. It looked like it was going to be filling, but it was lighter than imagined. The cream cheese frosting was too much for me, but it had a nice texture. Swiss Chalet Wrap ($13.99) - This came with fried eggplant, arugula, tomato bruschetta, and a balsamic dressing. This was my favorite item tried, no doubt. The wrap was filled and nicely made with a good balance of the ingredients. The eggplant was fried ideally too. It was a well put together wrap. The coleslaw that was provided was plain, but there was much provided anyway. Will I go back? I would.
